T-Mobile UK 1.72 rom - HD2 General

Because my phone keeps freezing about 5 times a day am thinking of flashing this rom (have the leoimg file on my sd card ready to install). Just want to know, now it's been out for a few weeks, what everyones thoughts on it is? Still fast & stable? No other issues?
Cheers

dont flash via sd card! it can overwrite ur spl >.<! do it only via usb on a computer!

Overwriting the SPL won't be a problem as I need a stock spl if I ever want to send it back for repair. + I can always reflash hpsl2 if needs be

Seems OK
Only problem I had was I re-installed .NET3.5, as I didn't trealise the new rom contains a later version.
It ran like a very very slow thing until I un-installed.

flash the stock rom via sd card at your peril, the spl will be changed to 2.something witch is not stock and hspl2 can't change it
also if you send the phone for repairs with the 2.? spl in it tmobile will most likely void the warranty.
ps why don't you try Artemis, the roms are very fast and great for every day use.

HSPL Back to original SPL anyone succeed it ?

Hi,
I have a little issue: I HSPL my HD2 no problem with . It's just my phone have a hardware problem & I wanna go back to Original SPL 1.42000. I found the original rom made for my branded handy
extract and rename the .nbh
format sdcard in proper format.
neither in sync nor in bootloader mode. Invalid vendor ID. Rom Upgrade issue for me.
How can I uninstall the HSPL ?
PS/ I tried all words given by bepe and other's concerning issues. I didn't found it. I must sent back my phone soon for warrantly reason...
Did you try to install the ROM from HTC website or did you find an Orange specific ROM?
It is an orange specific rom. cause it is a branded handy.
I even try from HTC website one but no satisfaction. I think it is normal by this one ?
I have a non branded "german" device.
I decided to go back from the HSPL to the stock SPL.
I wanted to flash with the Turkey 1.61 rom to have after this procedure the newest radio 2.07 on it.
I have followed the steps from bepe
But my SD card has a "goldcard" file on it.
Go to the HSPL thread and see my post #383
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
I have noted down all outputs during flashing.
At least I would give it a try and use a "Goldcard" to get back your original rom.
Hope it helps & Good luck!

In addition to what the previous poster described:
One can definitely flash the original ROM using the SD card to uninstall HSPL.
Many people do it by accident...
That being said, one question: Are you sure you have the correct ROM file?
You know, the error you mention only arises if you have to answer "no" to that question.

SD card should be formated FAT32. The original one is FAT16
What does it exactly mean: "One can definitely flash the original ROM using the SD card to uninstall HSPL"
We can uninstall HSPL by loading the .nbh from the official ROM from htc website from fat32 formated sd card ?
If the answer is yes, I have done it many times but no satisfaction.
Yes I use the proper and official htc and/or orange .nbh.
How to get out please.

If you do all steps in the correct way, flashing the original nbh with the SD card will definitely overwrite HSPL with stock SPL.
It has happened to quite a lot of people who were not aware of the fact that this happens when flashing a stock ROM with this method.
When you get a wrong carrier ID error message, you don´t have the right ROM, as the device will only allow to flash ROMs with the correct CID, be it HTC or operator stock ROMs.
Did you check the SPL version after the process with the SD card? If it says 1.42.0000, why don´t you try flashing with the original RUU?
yes confirm

I confirm: it happends to me: when I flashed the 1.61 HTC official rom from my SD, it replace the HSPL by the original SPL of HTC.
hi all, just want to share..
stock spl is 1.42 and after hspl 1.42hspl or 1.42.6666 if i'm not mistaken.
if to unsintall this hspl, i use flash using sd card method and it will re write radio and spl back to 1.42.
i also using turkey stock rom, but we cannot flash turkey stock rom using sd card method as it will rewrite spl and will give you error. wrong region. if this happen, in 3 colour mode, run you hspl. when it restart, make sure you push volume down button to get back in tricolour mode. if you not pushing vol down button, it will also boot in tricolour but hspl wont work, happen to me, spl back to 1.42.000. the flash using custom ruu.
just sharing with you guys.

It should be LEOIMG.nbh.
dont forget you might want to use MTTY to do task29 to format the device instead of CustomRUU.exe
tbh you can probably use the RUU from HTC if you have HSPL anyway.
p.s. yeah LEOIMG.nbh - LEOING.nbg made me smile - finger-twister
Okay I have tested restoring SPL1.42.0000 on a vendor-id'd phone.
Tried 2 ways of formatting the SD card:
a. formatting the sd card to FAT32 via Diskdrive mode connected to pc
b. Formatted in HD2 using onboard utility in HD2.
Tried 2 images but not the vendor-id image since I do not have that image.
a. Vendor ROM but in different language
b. Stock ROM HTC
Tried 2 ways of changing SPL back to 1.42.0000
a. Reset + vol down shows a 1 second message "Checking.", after that it immediately goes to the blue-green-red bootscreen showing bootloader 1.42.HSPL
b. From bootloader connect USB to pc and flash using stock RUU.
All combinations of above I can not restore SPL. Must be because HD2 requires correct ROM image + correct vendor-id.
Is there possibly a way to remove HSPL in some way without the original vendor image? Goldcard?
Check out my video on reverting back to stock spl

Not sure if its the same for locked devices though, just have a look

very good manual that is. In video manual is exactly the procedure I did. However the vendor-id'd HD2 won't get to the point where the image can be flashed. It gets to the point up to 1:37-1:38 in your video where the word "Checking..." blinks in an instant. After that it returns to bootloader screen.
So no luck yet

Oh sorry man
Goldcard also tried and no luck.
Every time I reboot to bootloader it gives the colored screen, proceeds to white screen with blue letters, in an instant shows: "Loading..." ..followed by: "Checking..." ..and then returns to colored bootloader main screen.
edit:
I keep thinking whether it is normal or not that the white screen doesn't show any kind of confirmation that it did actually find any nbh file whether it is valid or not. Maybe it just exits when the nbh is not valid, that may be the case.
However I have now ran the routine a whole lot of times and make zero progress.
Maybe better continue the search for the correct ROM to flash with.
just try one of the official roms posted in the official roms thread. don't try 1.61 - only 1.43/48
I have tried all official roms posted including 1.43 and 1.48 and up without success. The bootloader wouldn't go further after having checked the SD card contents. It did not work at all.
Finally now I bricked (I hope temporarily) my HD2 by trying to install the latest official 2.02 from the RUU.
Strange things have happened here.
I had earlier copied an 148 or so nbh to sd card. Bootloader would't work out as explained in posts above. So after all (with card with 148 nbh still inside) I figured it was time to check what ROM 2.02 would do, since I believe it would overwrite all SPL including HSPL since it is a v2 SPL. At least I hoped.
When I opened the RUU, it did reboot the phone as it is supposed to do with RUU.
Few things happened:
a. The phone booted in bootloader and showed me the white step screen which indicated there was a nbh about to be flashed. This was the nbh on the card!
b. The RUU errored with error 260 that the connection was lost. I have never lost a connection, must be because file on sd card took control.
c. Since connection was lost and the phone wanted a flash from the sd card I pressed vol up to continue update. it did start updating... but at about 9% I got a big triangle /exclamation mark, and HD2 stopped updating.
Reboot. Guess what??? SPL 1.42.0000 in bootloader now. From the nbh on the card.
But NO boot, NO radio .... After all I managed to destroy phone and HSPL.
Had to goldcard my way back in. However, problem solved!

You must use a vodafone stock ROM then - the 1.66 HTC ROM flashes the stock SPL
which does not fit your CID, therefore you get the triangle.
thx for replying.
I had stock rom 1.48 before and then i installed HSPL so that i can install Stock 1.66 wwe rom into my hd2. It was a successful action. Rom installed and worked correctly without any problem.
But problem arise when I tried to uninstall the HSPL to original spl. I renamed the 1.66 rom .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh and converted the card format into fat32 also.
when i inserted the card into hd2 and turned it on whilst pressing down volume button. its started into boot loader program and den asked me to press power button to start the process.
And then it ended with an error.. 00028002 NOT ALLOW something like that. which is for Invalid vendor ID..
Please help..
how to return to original spl with the latest 1.66 wwe rom.
thx in advance..

Actually, you did everything correctly... except that you should use the stock ROM for your device, which is vodafone branded, isn´t it?
BTW, did you check the SPL version already? Because it might be already back to stock SPL, but then, you won´t be able to flash an original HTC ROM.
Being back at stock SPL (with vodafone CID) and trying to flash/launch an official HTC ROM on the branded device results in what you write!
Hmm.. is there any harm if i don't remove HSPL??? as m still trying to make my HD2 working..

Get the original 1.43 vodafone UK ROM from here, and repeat what you did.
Follow the first link, select 1.43, then obviously the vodafone ROM.
EDIT PS:
In case you want to keep the stock SPL, but upgrade to the 1.66 HTC ROM, you must do this using SSPL (search for this here in the forum).
As of today, there is no other way of getting the stock SPL back than flashing your original ROM.

Hi
Thanks for the link, however the 1.43 ROM is corrupt, I have tried downloading several times. I try to extra the RUU_Signed.nbh with winrar but it fails, the 1.66 and 1.72 Vodafone ROMs extract fine.
Basically I am trying to restore a Vodafone HD2 to stock ROM+SPL, reason being the phone they sent on an insurance replacement is rubbish e.g. the touchscreen isn't responsive. I tried changing to a custom ROM also Vodafone 1.66 and 1.72 to see if the problem would be fixed but it didn't help.
Now I just need to send the phone back for another replacement.
Does anyone have an alternative link for this 1.43 ROM?
I am having a similar issue.
I am trying remove HSPL, I have copied the .nbh file over to the SD already formatted as FAT 32 - I'm using my original ROM.
(RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.48.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Shp )
Also tried with ( RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.43.405.1_Radio_Signed_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50_22_2_Ship )
When I start with volume down pressed, I get a message saying " Upgrade ROM code error please try again " then the multi coloured screen with SPL-1.42.0000 XE.
Please help, I fear I have broken my phone ...

HSPL is already removed, which is why the WWE roms don't work. You need to find your provider released rom, or (far easier) run hspl2, choose 1.42.hspl, flash either of teh roms you mentioned above by USB, run hspl2 again, choose 1.42.0000 and done.

Thanks for the reply.
I can't use HSPL2 as the phone doesn't sink to my PC as it's stuck on the tri colour screen. Unless there is a way of doing this from the memory card.
I'm pretty sure my stock ROM was 1.43, which I have downloaded but can't re flash?.
I guess I need to download a 1.42 O2 ROM from somewhere?

1. download stock ROM
2. unpack/unzip and place ruu_signed.nbh and ROMUpdateUtility in sd card
3. make sure you have >50% battery life
4. with the device turned off, put sd card in
5. enter boot loader, device will automatically detect ROM file in sd card and
then will install this, it will install stock spl as well so hspl will be removed

sounds like you tried to flash over sd card, which as any fule kno first thing it does is resets the spl, so hspl is no longer installed so the rest of the flash fails.

1 - boot the phone to bootloader. (Three coloured screen)
2 - run hspl2, choose whatever spl you like SO LONG AS it ends HSPL.
3 - when the phone reboots, keep volume down pressed to re enter bootloader
4 - run your rom flash over USB
5 - phone should now boot normally.
6 - if you now want to remove hspl again, re run HSPL2 and choose the spl you want, ENDING IN .0000
samsamuel
Yes Doh - I was flashing from SD and then trying to flash through USB. It all makes sense now. I got around it though by using the new O2 ROM that's just been released so I didn't need to unlock to bring my phone back to life.
Anyway it's all working fine now with the stock 1.72 O2 ROM, just flashed with HSPL2 and re-installed the Energy ROM.
Thanks again for all the help.
ahh good.
Its a good idea if you flash fairly regularly to do your flashing from bootloader, that way you are visually aware of your spl at every step. just get used to holding vol down as it reboots and you can do the whole thing, hspl, rom, radio, without ever having to pull the battery. just keep booting to tri colour till its done.

HD2 not turning on after custom fROM flashing

Hi all,
I know how often these threads come up and I'm sorry to be posting one myself. I have used the search function to help me sort the problem out, but I just seem to be stuck.
Ok, so I had 1.48 official WWE ROM on my HD2 and thought of upgrading to a custom ROM unlocking the 576mb RAM.I used the following 'Lost in Asia Preloaded' ROM.
I did a HSPL before this and went on to install the ROM. The installation was unsuccessful and all I was getting was the white HTC screen from startup. Even after taking the battery out/red button reset, the problem was not fixed. I searched around a bit and did the following:
'you should get your stock rom, ONLY your stock rom, extract the file ruu_signed.nbh. copy that file to your sd card formatted to fat 32 rename the file to leoimg.nbh. phone off. hold volume down. tap power (keep volume held). phone should boot to three colors screen and start to flash.
this will ONLY work with original rom.'
This installation was unsuccessful as well and now the phone will not turn on and I'm getting an exclamation mark in a black screen.
Could anyone please help me out? Sorry for being a noob at this, I don't get the chance to keep myself updated about all the advancements in ROM development.
Thanks in advance for your help.
heh, seeing as you are quoting me I'll have a go at helping.
my first thought is that you didn't use the correct stock rom.
where is the phone from? did you buy it outright or on contract?
what country are you (was it bought) in?
Question 2 - can you get in to bootloader? (power off, making sure there is NOT a leoimg file on sd card, hold down volume, tap power, keeping down vol pressed till it starts to three coloured screen)
If you can get to that screen, look for the SPL bit, what does it say?
Hopefully something like 1.42.0000 or 1.42.HSPL?
Hey thanks for the quick reply. Yeah I did use your advice from a different thread.
Answer to the first question: I got this on contract from T Mobile UK in November.
Answer to the second question: I had a look again on the initial advice by you, saying that I should use the original ROM file. as stated before it was 1.48 and I was using 1.66 to fix the phone. Using the 1.48 image file has now brought the phone back to life and it now seems to be working fine. But I am stuck on 1.48.
About the SPL: Volume button held down and tapping the power button brings up a screen showing SPL-1.42.0000 XE
I wanted to upgrade to a more recent version of the ROM namely 1.66.707.1 with a more recent Radio version as well. Though flashing a recent custom ROM would be the answer. more ram would not hurt as well! Any help about how I might be able to go about this? a link to the right guide would be helpful as well.
Heh, glad its sorted. Heres a few pointers.
Your stock rom is the T Mo uk wwe 1.48 rom. Keep a copy of that handy just in case you ever break it again. That one will always (well, nearly always) take your phone back to stock if you do the sd card method with the leoimg file.
When you are flashing, you should idealy always use USB method, NOT sd card method - Reason? because flashing an official (eg 1.66) rom using sd card will not only overwrite your original rom, but also overwrite the phones SPL (including HSPL, thats how to uninstal HSPL for warranty purposes).
For flashing both official roms, or cooked roms, you should instal HSPL and then use USB method to flash the rom.(Same goes for flashing radios)
The only time you need to use sd card method is when you want to go back to factory default, and then you should only do so with that T Mo UK file.
If you flash a bad rom that wont boot, no problem, because HSPL will still be installed, because you used USB method, , , so just pick a different ROM and flash again from the pc, over USB, job done.
SD card flashing is risky unless you are absolutely sure what you are doing.
To move to 1.66 (or in fact any rom you like) do this
Instal HSPL
run the 1,66 installer from the PC (NOT SD CARD!)
wait for it to flash
Done.
Great thread guys!
Do we really install HSPL? because if the installed one is the official 1.48... the official 1.66 should be instalable by USB, right?. this is my case and I'm a little confused...
Qq
In my opinion it is best to install HSPL, and then instal the updated (or cooked) rom using USB, that way your SPL is protected by HSPL.
Put simply, you want to protect your SPL, and the best way to do that is to avoid flashing using sd card. With HSPL installed you CAN install any cooked rom, and you CAN install the official updates (1.66) with no effect to your SPL.
I should point out that if you do NOT have your original stock rom available you won't be able to uninstal HSPL in the event of needing to return the phone, but if you DO have it available, (or you dont mind the possible warranty void) then go for it.

If your phone lets you instal 1.66 via usb without HSPL then go right ahead, using USB will not affect your SPL. If you are provider locked, and there is no provider 1.66 available (example o2 uk havent released a 1.66) then you can instal HSPL and then use the HTC 1.66.

How can I reset my phone back to stock & update it.

I tried a few cooked roms and I like some things about them and others I dont, so I was going to flash my phone back to stock and if there are any upgrades/updates I would like to do so also.... Please advise me, should I do this why or why not... and How can I go about doing this ? (Would I just use hspl2 1024 and reinstall 2.08 first, then install the latest stock rom ? -but where can I find the latest official stock rom?-can I get it from htc? )....
thanks in adavance...
If you have already run hspl2 there is no need to do it again. All you need to do is download the shipped rom (available here and at ppcgeeks.com) and flash it. There haven't been any updates for the stock rom as of yet. Your personal choice on if you want custom rom or stock. Custom roms usually have less bloatware and performance enhancements that make them ideal over the stock rom.

looking for help
I installed hspl 2.08.0000 and flashed a custom rom, then I tried to flashed a vodafone Uk shipped Rom and now my Hd2 won't even boot up, when I connect it to the usb windows xp sees the device and tries to install a driver but then fails to find a driver. I cant even use mtty because usb is not listed as one of the selections. does anyone know how to help Please
Could be because you flashed a shipped rom that is for a different device. The european HD2 is different than the US HD2. If you have a US HD2 flash a rom that is designed for 1024 Leo (recommend Miri and Steve's Eleganicia). Put the phone in bootloader and then flash from pc or you can rename the .nbh from a rom to LEOIMG.nbh and place that in the root of your storage card to flash. Can get to bootloader by holding volume down and pressing the reset button under the back cover, holding vol key til tri-colored screen appears.
it wont let me get into bootloader mode, my computer does see the hd2 but wont let me access the usb
Maybe someone else can chime to correct me if im wrong but sounds like you now have one expensive paper weight. Flashing a rom that is not for your phone is not good.
Flashing a Euro Rom on your TmoUS HD2 will brick your phone - for good. Why are so many people doing this?
tmo are sure to get wise to this and stop replacing them at this rate. I've seen 6 or 7 people with the same problem in two days.
Guys with a tmous,
1 - DONT flash any stock roms except the one from tmous. Stock roms include a radio and it will kill your phone.
2 - DONT flash any radio with a .51. in the version. It will kill your phone.
3 - dont flash any cooked rom not based on the 2.10 rom. It will kill your phone. (i think, , , possibly recoverable, not sure yet)
4 - most of all read first, flash later.
OK PLEASE do not hijack the topic,
Remember I asked how can I reset my phone back to completely stock (like when I first bought it).... and then after that I would like to update it (if there are any updates)....
Thanks for all the advice so far...

2 ways.
1 - connect phone via USB, run hspl1024, choose spl 2.08.0000, thats your spl back to stock. Then flash the tmous 2.1 rom over usb, thats your radio and rom returned to stock.
2 - you can get the tmous 2.1 rom, extract the file ruu_signed.nbh, copy it to sd card, rename it leoimg.nbh and reset your phone, which will see the nbh file and flash it, and because it is from sd card it will also reset the spl (and radio) to stock.
i'd go for option 1, as i haven't read much about people flashing sd card on the tmous, so for now steer clear.

it's the spl that voids the warranty, not the rom. when you boot to bootloader, so long as it says
spl 2.08.0000
then you are good to go.
Thank you!

[Q] Broken Micro-USB connector, can't flash stock LEOIMG.nbh but can flash custom ROM

I have a very strange problem and if anyone could help me I'd very much appreciate it as I can't find anything similar in the forums (with a solution) after a month of searching.
My HD2 has HardSPL3 and the ChuckyDroid ROM with Android on an SDCard.
The USB connector on the handset has stopped working (the metal D-shape thing wobbles about) so I cannot flash a ROM to it via the ROM Update Utility, only by the LEOIMG.nbh on an SDCard method works.
I need to send the handset back to Vodafone for a warranty repair, but obviously having HSPL3 and a custom WM ROM invalidates my warranty so I need to flash the stock ROM back to the phone to remove them both.
Problem is that I can flash any custom ROM I find to the handset using the SDCard method (Except Energy ROM's for some reason) but when I try to flash the stock Vodafone ROM using this method it fails to start the phones flash routine.
So I'm stuck with a phone I can't charge (using desktop charger for the battery atm) and I can't send back for repair.
Any ideas?????
Thanks in advance!
dont worry too much about the rom, get a close to stock custom rom on there, use hspl2.exe to remove hspl (set it to 1.66.0000) and it should be fine.

Is it possible to flash HSPL2 onto it without using the USB cable?
The connector on the handset is totally borked so i can't use the PC for anything, just the SDCard flashing method. :/
**BUMP**
I haven't found a solution still.
no, you cant use any other means to run hspl.
as to why custom roms flash from card and stock dont, you must be doing something wrong. please outline your proceedure.

I downloaded the stock Vodafone ROM from the link in mskip's flashing thread.
Rename the .exe to .zip
Extract the zip
Rename the RUU_Signed.nbh to LEOIMG.nbh and copy it to an SDCard.
insert card into handset and reboot holding the volume down button.
Same procedure I use for flashing custom ROM's.
hmm, very strange, all i can suggest is trying several different stock roms. dont forget to check what your bootloader says for spl, because even a failed stock flash can remove hspl and reset stock spl.

I downloaded the ROM directly from HTC support site but same thing occurs when I try to flash it. HSPL is definitely still on there too.
I find it weird that I can flash any custom ROM except the Energy ROMs, I'm assuming that perhaps these have more in common with stock ROM's than the others.
I'm lost atm!
a long shot, but are you extracting the ruu_signed before copying it to the sd card, or are you drag/dropping it directly to the phone from within winrar/winzip? I've heard of that causing problems with corruption before, though I can't remember the files involved or the context.
try different stock roms, you said its voda, but was it locked voda?
appart from that, thoughts would be, make sure the sd is freshly formatted, full format, not quick format, fat32, get the roms from different sources, maybe even use different browsers to download them, maybe even try the wwe 3.14 rom, even if it flashes the spl and then wont load the rom, you can always plead ignorance with them, it's a stock spl after all. (Course, they may just tell you to do one, so only try that if you are prepared to argue)

I've tried it both of those ways, on my Macbook Pro and on another Linux box and from Win2K in a VM.

It's a contract vodafone that came unlocked when it arrived, had it nearly a year now.

I've tried two different downloads of the ROM (htc.com and the one in mskips thread) and two different sdcards, the 2GB that came with it and a Class 4 Kingston. I'll try formatting both cards using the sdcard.org formatter in Win2K and see if that makes a difference.
My desktop charger has now decided to die on me so I can't try anything until my new one arrives from Hong Kong in a week or so. :/
