Hey there
I am using SE PC Companion and it open a windows explorer window to the SD card to browse it. I am trying to add a couple of music files to the SD card but it always come back with the Access is denied error. I am connecting via the USB cable to my laptop to Xperia X10
Can you please recommend what should I do to make it work ?
Rightclick on the sdcard, is it write protected? Are u using a special sdcard with a little diptrigger, to set the sdcard write protected?

And is the phone mounted or unmounted? I had some issues with files when the phone was mounted.
The phone is mounted.. how to hook up my phone with laptop without mounting the SD Card
Have PC Companion load up first before plugging in your X10 and mounting it I think. It's just a guess but maybe PC Companion detects your X10 as you mount it and intercept it. If the X10 is already mounted then PC Companion can't intercept it.
This is just my wild guess.
It didnt work... this is weired.. i cant understand why i cant copy anything on to SD card.. the software such as Facebook can make new folder.. and i cant even copy stuff manually
*bump*
Can some one recommend something.. all the suggestions failed..
Check if usb debugging is on or off.
Settings - application - development - usb debugging.
I believe Media Go only works if usb debugging is off.
...and of course, the other suggestions given regarding mounting SD card.

Hey Everyone,
I apologise if this is in the wrong forum (not sure if it should be in Android Development), and before I start I want to make it clear that I DID use the search function, I searched for "Can't Enable USB Mass Storage" and "No option to mount SD Card" with no relevant results.
Rom: JFv1.51 CRB43-EU
Ok, I was using my phone fine I managed to sync around 12GB worth of music and transfer a few files last night (I flashed the ROM around 20:00 GMT after trying out several hero builds).
This morning I mounted the SD Card to my laptop (OS is Windows 7 RC1) and transferred a few APK's. Suddenly as I was in the market the phone comes up with "Checking SD Card for Errors" and had for some reason unmounted itself from the PC.
Now when I plug in the USB cable all I get is the light to indicate it's charging. There's no option to mount the SD Card. I've tried it on my Laptop, My Vista Desktop AND My Xbox 360 (usually there's a mount option when you connect to that which allows the xbox to see music on the phone).
Strangest thing is the MicroSD Card seems fine, I am able to play my music and see the 2 pictures I have stored on it. Another site suggested using Anycut to make a shortcut to SD CArd and then ticking Enable USB Mass Storage. This doesn't work either, I get a ! in a triangle in the status bar saying USB Mass Storage Enabled but neither my laptop or my desktop will pick it up.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks,
Steve.

Yep, Should it be?
Yes it should be. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers (USB mass storage devices)
Edit: Double pOst
i had my old g1 with cyans 4.2.3.1 and it was fine and it connect to my computer perfectly, now i got a newer g1 with official 1.6 and every time i connect to compute it says device not recogonized , and the mount doesnt come up in notifications bar, its not my SD card i reformated and it works with other phones, i put cyans 4.2.3.1 on it and it still doesnt work i tryed on like 20 different computers and it still says device not recognized im bangin my head against wall need help asap please
idk if u mean u cant connect through adb, or jut read ur SD card.
with adb, reinstall the most recent SDK, make sure all paths are set
with SD, try it with just a regular card reader and see if it works. then move on from there
if u need more details, post more details. just not rlly sure where the problem lies yet.
i cant read my sd card, it works in every card reader it works in other peoples g1, it works in other peoples mt3g, but in my g1 when i connect it to computer i dont get the notification of "usb connected mount/dismount" so i cant even mount my sd card so i can drag and drop files on it via computer (usb mass storage) it charges when its connected to pc just no notification so now i have to carry my old g1 so i can put m sd carrd in there and connect to computer and use it as a card reader
i have literaly tried everything(i think)
I'm the only one having problems with usb mass storage? With all builds from all chef and all kernels it happens the same. I can read from the pc what is on the SD, but if I copy a file Android dont see it , the file size is 0. And new files created in android can't be readed by windows either (I can only read the files that were written on the SD before the last android boot)
I missing something? I tryied dismounting the SD from android with same results
Are you using it in the same way USB MASS STORAGE in WM6.5 ???
I use USB storage all the time and in every andrioid build I've used(about 20) I've never had any problems. There are many people like me that also have no problems, but there are also many like you that have plenty of problems. I'm not sure that anyone really knows why.

Thanks for answering. Do you have 2 partitions on the sd ?
Just want to check a few things:
1: you plug in via usb and select "disk drive"
2: you are not still connected via usb when trying to read the items on the sd card?
3: When you disconnect the usb, you use the usual method (right click the icon in the taskbar and select "safely remove hardware") then wait for the SD card to be prepared by android before accessing it?
Also, how are you accessing the files in Android?

1 & 2: Yes. Windows assing the drive letter and can read it fine.
3: I connect Android to pc, choose USB MASS STORAGE, in windows access the new drive letter, rename a file , choose "safele remove hardware", disconnect the cable, wait for Android to "prepare the sd" , go to the file and it has the old name!!! the weird thing is that if I connect to the pc again, I see in the pc the new name!
Is like Android is working with his own FAT32 table IN MEMORY and not refreshing it.
I tried Ghost Commander/ES file manager/Root Explorer, all with the same results.
PD: I found something else... If I DISMOUNT the SD from Android Im still able to access it with ES File Manager, etc. So its not really dismounting it Why can this be happening with all builds/roms?
I have the same problem. Strange thing is it worked fine fore the first couple of days. Anybody have a solution?
Try using "Rescan Media" app after you copy your files to the SD
Still nothing. I have to boot back into winMo to transfer files to my SD card! This is really annoying,
Plenty of other tools provide media scan as well, like Optimize toolbox, Switch pro widget and more. they all worked for me.
[edit] sorry, optimize toolbox doesn't offer it, it just clears the cache :/
power control plus however has this function as well.
I am trying to read my external sd card when plugged into pc (Win 7) but my pc does not see the external, only internal memory.
Any ideas how to make this happen?
If u search iconia in the android market, i believe there was an app called automount...dont qqoute ne but i think it does what your asking

You can enable USB Debugging, get the proper drivers installed, and use Droid Explorer, that is what I do.
daveid
Thanks for that information - yesterday I downloaded the drivers that were supposed to help with this but I still do not see the external from the pc.
What is droid explorer that you mention?
Thanks

Droid Explorer.
From what I've read, this is a honeycomb issue I've tried everything and can't see my external sd card on my pc. I've tried multiple programs that claim to work, but haven't found any yet.
I can't install droidexplorer on my computer, if errors out because of 64bit. I made the changes in the registry that are suggested with no luck.

I know that this is probably covered in another thread but, since it was mentioned in my resolution, I am curious the benefit to rooting?
Is it worth it for an average user?
Seeing external SD card
bweave - I am repeating what I have said in the "lost files from my sd card" thread, but here goes. I use the old fashioned method of mounting my sd card in a r/w card gizmo (I use a cheapo Wal**** Targus card reader writer) I attach this to my desktop via usb and then can see the card as a mass storage unit in Win 7. I can then delete files or add music/pictures/movies and when done I put the card back in my a500 where I can then see and display the files perfectly. I do realise that this is not the most tech savvy way of doing it but it works and touch wood I have never lost or corrupted a single file. In the other forum thread several people were continually losing files from the sd card. Now if you are talking about external usb hard drives and not just the sd card then I can recommend the app "USB Mount All v1.3" from the Marketplace with this you can see and mount/unmount all external sources - cards, thumb drives and hard drives. Hope my two penneth worth might be of assistance.
Sorry bweave forgot to mention if you use USB Mount All you will need to be rooted
Seeing external SD card
DELETED duplicate post
I'd rtaher go and buy a microsd reader for my computer then root the tablet.. $4.05 with zero risk of bricking anything.
OK, to get to this message, I had to read a warning about getting banned if not a developer thread.
Well, this is. Sort of.
I posted a question in the general forum and commented on the same subject in the Q&A forum. I think I know my answer but I would like to know why this problem exists.
I just got my tablet Friday evening. I figured it all out and was able to use external storage on drives and USB sticks. When I try to connect my phone as a disk drive, no files.
I am assuming that access to these files is for lack of root access, which I am not going to get because I immediately let it update to 3.2.
So, could someone tell me if lack of root is the answer and why? The phone does instantly show up as a disk drive on XP and Windows 7.
Thanks, and moderators, please don't kick me out.
Did you try mounting your phone, if you can? And yes root it would be easier with the usb mount app, or just use an app like es file explorer that can go into the root section without root then go to mnt and in one of those files should be your phone files, because i have an env touch and i use usb mass storage and it shows up on my iconia
Thanks. Yes, I did see the folder MNT but it did not show up. Using my usual file explorers, I can see the internal storage and the SD card. The next entry is the USB STORAGE where I find no files when the phone is connected.
If I connect an external drive or usb memory device, I can access all the files. When I connect the phone as a drive I see that nothing is there.
When I connect these same devices to my home pc running Win 7 and laptop with XP, they all connect the same way.
There is something in the OS that is not letting my tablet file system see my phone file system.
Thanks for the reply, I'll keep my eye on this thread.
I'm having the same problem, i can import photos or videos from the phone when the phone is on mtp mode (media transfer protocol) but when in file transfer mode (msc) nothing shows up in the mnt folder or in drive mount app. i'm running taboonay 2.2 with villain kernel. It works fine with external hdd ntfs or fat. When connecting the phone to my computer i had to install a driver from windows update and it shows as an xperia arc, do i also need a driver in my tablet? Has anyone already connected and android phone to an android tablet in mass storage mode?

Not sure Root has anything to do with it. I'm rooted on both phone and tab , and have no access to the files on my phone. When in "disk drive" mode, all it does is "charge".
