What's the difference between a Kitchen and a ROM? - P3600 General

I just want to know the difference between a ROM and Kitchen, I know what a ROM is where you use the Update Utility to ROM your Pocket PC to a specific version of Windows Mobile, but what is a Kitchen and is it harder than installing a ROM and also does it take more time?

is there anyway to install it?
yoshiki2,
Unfortunately to install Windows Mobile 6.5 you need to update the ROM on the device. This device cannot load custom roms at this time. A modified SPL is necessary in order to do this. You will see more information here when that is available.

Cooked ROMs and Windows Mobile 6.5

Hi, I'm newbie to Windows Mobile World, coming from Symbian and I'm a little confused about all these new terms, etc...
My question is that if I install a cooked ROM for Win 6.5 this will also upgrade my 6.1 to 6.5, or I need first to update Win to 6.5 and then install cooked ROM for this version ?
Thanks.
No, u can directly update to a 6.5 cooked rom.
Have fun

Don't forget to HardSPL first!!!!!!!! Without this you can't install cooked rom's!
yes, use hardspl first !!! then copy TOPAIMG.nbh to memory card, power off the phone then use volume down key and power button to boot-up and update the new rom or image. missing symbian already...
So maybe a little newbie question from me... What exactly are RADIO ROMs and how do they differ from "normal" roms?

To my knowledge a radio rom is a rom containing firmware for the phone's radio. Newer versions can give better coverage or improve battery life.

[Ques] How is SPL version specified

Sorry if this is stupid question but when cooking a rom, how or where is the spl version of the device specified?
Is this something I need to cook in specifically or does the rom's sys etc dictate the spl version needed?
Basically I am trying to create a base rom for my spare athena, I have dumped a stock 6.0 rom and plan to port a 6.5 build to it, giving me a base to work from, but the athena can use 2 spl's 1.2 and 3.5 and I dont want to mess anything up.
Many thanks
Sean

WM5 to new

I have Universal and got a question.
Can I use WM5 stock ROM to cook WM6.1 or 6.5?
Are there any dfferences between cooking from stock/base WM5 and from base WM6.1 to newer versions?
Yes it is, cause the core is different...
but you can go to the HTC Universal forum and download a 6.5 or 6.1 kitchen by any chef and get the OEM and ROM folders you will need the native 6.5 kernel too read the tutorials here to set or port a new device into OSkitchen or EVK

to be able to upgrade WM 6.5 rom before you need to upgrade HarsdSPL first, and HardSPL are fully supported on WM 6.5 is HardSPL 1.83.OliNex
if you want to know about HSPL check this thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312
I going to instal HardSPL 1.83.OliNex and next Topaz_HTC_WWE_EastEurope_2.53.479.3 Windows Mobile 6.5" from sunnysoft website. THX.
