Keyring app on incredible - Droid Incredible General

My friends have g1 phones and the app works great... I haven't been able to get my incredible to scan yet...
Does anyone else use this app with success on the incredible...
Im thinking its my screen cover or maybe some issue with bar code scanners reading the oled screen
Ive played with the brightness a little but that's about it

Not sure what app exactly your are talking about.
What are you scanning?

Watch the video the app links to. It says don't use screen covers.

Works fine on my incredible
I used keyring at Target with a gift card and they scanned it just fine. It has to be the infrared scanner and not the laser scanner common at most retailers.

whats your brightness set at? I took off the cover and it still wont scan... I tried scanning it every 25% of the brightness and still can't get it to read mine..

mine worked at toys r us with the hand scanner, but not food lion with the built in scanner. I do have a screen protector on mine and it still worked.

What screen protector? i took off my invisible shield...

I tried it at the supermarket (A & P) in the self check out aisle and it didn't work. I'm not using a screen cover yet.

I have had similar issues. The laser scanners do not seem to work.

finally got it to scan with my friends g1... Screen brightness was set to 75 with the stock verizon cover... The invisible shield definitely distorts the bar code

Pops_G,
Hey, Key Ring customer support here. Your assumptions are correct. It's the incredible's screen that makes it difficult to scan barcodes from the screen. CCD/Led handheld scanners should work fine though, just not laser handheld scanners. CVS uses LED scanners for sure.
Hope this helps!

I felt bad when the cashier at best buy had to type in my card manually just cause I was being lazy to dig out my card. Ty for the official response

Tip: how to test Galaxy TAB 7.7 display (etc.)

Use the Service Code * # * # 0 * # * # * to check display for the presence of dead pixels.
It makes sense to check out all that is possible, especially when you buy used tablet or a new one on the "gray market" or aboard.
You can enter this service code in the dialpad in GT-6800 and check out:
- speakers
- defective pixels - better do not check if this is your phone already, why get upset for nothing?
- few sensors (do not be confused with gyro, it takes a while to test it)
- screen discoloration on edges (there should be no discoloration what so ever for a non defective screen, also no visible lines in greys)

Presumably you enter these into the dialer of your 6800. Has anyone tried the codes in the Wifi only tablet, ie installed a dialer. If so, which dialer did you use or does this not work for the 6810?

Many thanks for that I've try on the P6800 and was surprised about the grip sensor... Did not know about it... Wonder if it can be used to wakeup the device like proximity sensor does with smart screen off the problem is that the proximity sensor is too sensitive. This shows well in those test it is either 0 or 1 at a distance of couple cm..
Anyway interesting... For some reason the gyro shows a red fail...

The gyro on mine also showed FAIL initially but the test was still running. Later, the big FAIL message went away and said PASS in blue.
Aside from checking dead pixels its also a good idea to check for screen discoloration on edges which is more common on the Tab7.7, different shades of grey should make testing easier/faster. There should be no discoloration what so ever for a non defective screen, also no visible lines in greys.
just did this, and found a dead pixel -- now i can't unnotice it, I kinda wish I didn't do this :-/
at least I didn't have any of the coloration issues that people seemed to be having
A dead pixel is gonna stick out like a sore thumb.

I can certainly relate my first unit had 9 dead pixels so I wouldn't get too worked up over one. I haven't seen any on my replacement yet but would consider a few to be within normal failure rate. I wouldn't think any retailer would take back a unit with any less that 4 or 5 pixels dead since this issue seems to be fairly common amongst tablet screens. Sorry though...I feel your pain!

I had 1 dead pixel on my 7.7 and it's now in for repairs.
It didn't bother me at all until I noticed it, of course..
They didn't say a thing though, just took it in for repair.
As far as I understood, dead pixels should be really rare on AMOLED displays...
i found a fualty pixel as well, I'm not sure if its dead or stuck since it pops up in white & green screens only while running the test.

New trick

Just found a new trick well new to me with your phone off and on a flat service swipe the screen and it tells you the time any missed calls and battery life
I thought it was a cool trick
This was the first feature I found when I got the device (which was a week and half ago now).
You really should explore the s-pen and motion settings more often

Finger Print Reader Tip - It's All About Angles

Here's a great tip I found while browsing online. If you're having trouble with the reader, It is most likely because you swiped the same finger the same way all 10 times. Here's what I did.
1 - I only use my thumb print to unlock. Either thumb.
2 - For the first profile, I use my left thumb and swipe each time in slightly different directions as if I would normally unlock it. I even do one where I'd have to open it while someone else is holding the phone.
3 - I do the same for the right thumb with the second profile.
4 - I do another one just to make sure i have all the angles.
5 - Should work much better.
Remember get all the angles you think you're gonna use!
It's also good to re-capture your prints after a weeks use with the phone. Now you got that muscle memory
Found the link here. Although I don't think he's getting all the angles now that I'm watching it again lol. http://youtu.be/I0qMp0Smi58
.
Thanks we try and report back
Great advice. Work's allot better

Index finger works best for me...it's functions almost flawlessly.....I tried thumb but never worked out well
The index works for me. 9 out of 10.
Nice catch! I'm surprised this wasn't discovered or mentioned by anyone before!
I used my right thumb for Fingerprints 1, 2, and 3. I got every angle I could imagine, and rotated my thumb slightly a few times. One finger scanned 30 times works way better than three fingers scanned ten times each!

I think each fingerprint actually gives you ability to store 2 fingers. So I did thumbs and index fingers (index finger is much easier when it is laying flat on a table in front of you) and swiped at angles like you suggest. Seems pretty good and I think the update even improved it - no hard evidence, just seems improved.
One more suggestion - do one fingerprint swiping up. Works great and I find it a bit easier one handed.
i dont always leave comments on post i read, but when i do its because the OP was so amazing with their information that it helped me out alot...
thanks so darn much for this...

u can scan one finger 20 times in one imprint... when it gets done with the first 10 it ask if u want to scan the same finger again, that adds to the original scan...

I scan my left tbumb in every direction possible, and different angle, so now it works as good as iphone scanner
agree with tips
I completely agree with op and other posters. My fingerprint unlock is working flawlessly. I did 20 scans each on both thumbs and my right index and all 3 are working.
Make sure you scan each side, literally turn your hand like your giving someone a handshake and do a few scans on the sides. Same for the other side of each finger and the tips as well.
Most importantly if you're using your thumb is to scan the fingerprint sideways from different angles several times. Scan it straight up and down, then at a 90 degree angle 45 degree angle and any angles in between. Do each one a couple times, in particular make sure you're doing it the way that you'll actually be doing it when your unlocking the phone. Hold your phone like you would when you going to unlock it and scan it that way several times. Best of luck hopefully this works well for everyone wanting to use it without any headaches.
Useful!! Thanks a lot!
I followed the instructions and some of the feedback that some other folks left here and works like charm!!! Its kinda hard do it with one hand but its pretty accurate... now my gf cant unlock the phone

I have no issues with my fingerprint scanner but I came from the s5, which I think was a bit more finicky. I had to swipe multiple times and use a glas.tr to keep the button flush. The note 4 reads my thumb every time and I'm very happy with it.
My "tip" for you guys would be to literally use the tip of your finger. If I place my thumb lower as to cover the whole button like it says, it never works. If I just use the very tip of my finger it works perfect every time.
This is awesome! Got mine set up last night and am enjoying this simple security very much! Wish it could be set up to be always on so you can open with the screen off just like the mic for Google Now!

Fingerprint scanner - My experience

I just thought that I would pass along my experience with the fingerprint scanner. When I first started using the Note 4, I went through the fingerprint setup for my right thumb. I did the 10 times scan, and then, as the setup describes, did 10 more times with the thumb almost at a right angle. The phone stored the fingerprint and everything was OK.
As I used the fingerprint to unlock the phone, I almost always had to scan it several times. Sometimes it took 4 or 5 tries to get it to unlock.
On a whim, I deleted that fingerprint and started all over. This time I did the straight down 10 times, but did not do the additional "angle" scan 10 times and stored the print.
Now I am able to unlock the phone on the first try about 95% of the time. It never takes more than 2 tries to unlock. Yes, I have to scan my thumb straight down, but I think that is a small price to pay to get away from the frustration of having to scan a bunch of times to unlock.
As an aside, I am using the fingerprint scan for apps such as LastPass and they are now a pleasure to use with a scan match on the first try.

Yep, that is the key! The only failures get now are if I swipe too fast, too slow or don't swipe over the entire key! It's really a lot more accurate than people give it credit for if you swipe it correctly! I can unlock with both my index finger and my thumb.
As winter has dragged on (dry in the upper Midwest) this has gotten much worse for me. Especially if I'm outside in the cold, the scanner almost never works. I think the dry skin is causing it to trip up. I need to re-register my fingers all the time to have a chance.

Fingerprint scanner. Do you use it?

Just wondering what people thought of the fingerprint scanner? I tried it today and I feel like it works ok. Sometimes it gets it first try and other times its hit or miss. Still though, privacy is important. Only thing I wish is that you didn't have to swipe your finger to get it to unlock. Considering the size of the phone I wish you could just place it down anywhere on the home button and have it work.
Thoughts?

At first I thought it was pointless, because it worked poorly for me. Now it reads every time. I'm not sure why the 2nd time took better. I know you can improve the chances by taking several (up to 6 I think) profiles of your finger. I use it with LastPass, which I love, that's good integration. I don't like it for locking the screen, I'm in my phone too much and it's just a slower operation. I agree, the sensor on the iPhone is way better, you don't even think about it. But I like having it for the password management.
I use it because foxfi requires a passcode more than just swipe. I use that. Works pretty good for me. Most times on first try
I absolutely use mine everyday. I think it's overlooked because of the bad rep that the s5 scanner had, this one is much improved. I agree that the iphone scanner is better but this one isn't bad at all granted you understand how to properly set it up. I wish you could lock individual apps with it but other than that I love it.

Nope. Its one of like 47 useless (for me) features on my Note 4. It's simply, here's what I want: large screen that also looks awesome, removable battery, memory card slot, and lastly root. That's it, and I would possibly be even will to give up one, MAYBE two of those things. The Nexus 6 has one of the 4. The Note 4 has 3 of the 4, thus here I am, patiently waiting for root of the d.e. to get back in stock.

Have tried it on my note 4 and my previous S5. Maybe im just to lazy to take the time to get used to it, but in the short time ive used it the thing just infuriates me. sometimes requiring several swipes to unlock. I do like apples approach to the scanner better. Huawei has a phone with one like apples but on the back. i think its the perfect solution. the whole Swipe part of it is what sucks. The whole thing will be a moot point for me when lollipop hits the note 4 as I will simply make my Gear S a trusted device and not have a code at all as long as it is paired. I really only need security in case i lose my phone or it gets stolen. Until then I'll just stick to the pattern unlock.
I like to swipe my thumb sideways because it's easier to do with one hand. This worked well when the phone was naked, but my seidio case lifts my thumb as I slide it and makes an unreadable scan most times. I've stopped using it as a result.

Logging into the phone is the main use of it but you can also link it with PayPal to make purchases. Also I believe you can use it with last pass which is a password manager to log into different websites by scanning your finger.
