New trick - Galaxy Note II General

Just found a new trick well new to me with your phone off and on a flat service swipe the screen and it tells you the time any missed calls and battery life
I thought it was a cool trick

This was the first feature I found when I got the device (which was a week and half ago now).
You really should explore the s-pen and motion settings more often

Have you ever managed to get the screen capture motion working? I have tried many times even via the hand motion tutorial thing but it just wouldn't work for me....

Worked like a charm on both galaxy s3 and now not2. You should try washing your hands before

Don't worry about screen capture it's a pain in the ass evry time you wipe the screen it take a pic I turned it off

Update dont swipe just hover your hand over

I was being a retard didn't realise you had to touch the screen in order for it to work. Lol

Is there a trick to swiping? top to bottom? left to right?
Edit: Found it. It was not enabled it's the first option in settings, gestures

Are you holding your hand vertically and then sweeping it across the screen?

Guys your hands should be well touching on the whole screen while swipe your hand on it
Try.... enjoy

Get your hand over from bottom to up and hold a bit over phone sensor.
Dont forget to enable first in settings
Fired From My FireDevice.

looks nice
i will try

There's a tutorial for this feature in the motion settings, you're not actually supposed to touch the screen to trigger it as it works using the proximity sensor.

I see a few sec delay after i cover my hand over a phone and screen info , is it normal ?cause i have custom Rom. In the tutorials section when i cover my hand screen goes on without delay

Well just saw that this will turn the proximity censor on all the time which will drain the battery

Go to motion turn on quick glance

I thought he Quick Glance was not working for me. It works more easily in the tutorials, but not IRL. When using it IRL, (especially in a bright room) I have to hover my hand over the sensor for some time to get it to activate.

3rd Way to take screenshot !

By knowing obvious two ways of taking screenshot using S-pen and Palm sweep,
yesterday i discovered 3rd way which is by pressing lock button and home button simultaneously !
I dont know how many of us know this, just thought sharing, but nowhere i have read about this.
And if you really didn't knew this, being "Noob" i would really like to see something on my Thanks meter
Most of us know it I guess but thanks anyways
I didn't know it, thanks. probably won't use it though a its a little more awkward than the other 2 ways
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Actually pressing the lock button and home button simultaneously is quite easy... ive been doing that since i got my note. That was how I used to take screen caps with my iphone
Maybe in landscape

how do you capture using palm sweep? i saw the video on youtube but can't seem to duplicate it. is there a setting i need to enable before i can do this?
You should just have to Swipe your hand from the right hand side of the screen to the left
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Left to right works also, learn something new everyday

I don't really find the hand swipe convenient
Most convenient method is hand swipe but 9 out of 10 times, I can't get it to work. I always end up with the other 2 methods.

Coming from iPhone (besides my BB days) this was a natural gesture I tried when I got my note. Still, I usually need a screenshot when I am going to annotate it with my SPen, so button+screen press is my preferred action.
I can't seam to get the swipe motion to work. Are you guys using one finger? 2, 3, 4? The Palm? right at the middle of the screen? the top? bottom? I tried them all, can't seam to get it to work.
The Lock/Home Button method seams to work on most android devices by default.

You do know that pressing the button on the pen and holding the stylus on the Note will take a screen shot, plus bring up the S-Pen annotation tools right? It would be faster to do it that way rather then save the screen shot, then go to the gallery and annotate the photo after the fact.

use the side of your hand. Too hard to apply even pressure across the entire screen otherwise.

Thanks! So...apparently it works if you run your phone across your abdomen as well...yeah, don't ask.

use the edge of the palm below index finger and slide it from left to right or right to left. It helps applying uniform pressure on ample amount of pixels......

Rogers S3 - Motion Stuff + Palm Swipe doesn't work at all

Hello,
Just picked up my 16GB S3 and none of the motion stuff works including the Palm Swipe. I can't even take Screenshot with Home + Power?
I followed you tube instructions and on how to swipe etc, but no go. The only thing was that the batt was at 10%, I am charging it now but is this a power issue? or do I have a broke piece and if yes, is it the s/w or the h/w issues
EDIT: I was waving my hand instead of kissing it over the screen. I did the tutorials for the motion and they work as well
Hi
Hi there, I have the same problem. Did you figure out why? I can't save any pictures at all!
It does work for me . ACtivate the motion and the Palm swipe to capture. You need to put the side of your on the screen from left to right.
hmm, the easiest one to check is the screenshot or the auto contact call one, turn it on. go to messaging app and open a thread with someone you are texting and just put the phone to your ear, it will auto dial the person.. try that one
I think there are some bugs with the SGH-I747M. I have tried on 4 different phones and none of them allow the palm screenshot
Also the tap to top only works on a couple apps
Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk 2
I had problems too until I found out the you DON'T use your palm. You have to swipe from right to left with the side of your hand (karate chop basically ). After I figured that out it has been working without problems. It's a little tricky taking a screenshot with home+power as you have to do it with perfect timing for it to work, but once you figure that out it's pretty simple. Not as easy as my iPad though but still fairly easy now.
Hope that helps
Screenshot with the power and home button need to be held down until it takes the picture. Don't just hit them quickly.
With the motion screenshot your karate chop hand needs to touch the screen as your swiping from right to left.

Thanks for the tip about holding the home+power a lot easier then what I was trying lol

The palm screenshot thing isn't even worth using since you have to be touching the screen to do it and it always manages to change things on the screen while you are trying to swipe your hand across to screenshot. Home+Power works a lot better.

You have to touch the screen. And here I was thinking the front facing camera is responsible for this :banghead:

If you touch the screen, it responds in whatever app you happen to be in. I can't get it to work either. I'm guessing there will be a software update in the next couple of weeks to fix. Whether AT&T releases it is another matter.

I can do it every time. Use the whole side of your hand and slide it across the screen end to end. Maybe the Note II trained me how to do it...
I too had trouble with this on my SIII when I first got it until I started doing what Bjray explained, you don't use your palm, you use the side of your palm as if you're chopping something, then brush from one side of the screen to the other, starting OFF the screen's edge on one side, and moving kind of quickly to the other.... practice makes perfect, even if you do look pretty silly doing it! There's definitely no software update that needs to occur for you to get what we're saying and screen shot every time

Nope. Just tried it in low light, bright light, turned it off and on again. Which "Samsung gesture" things do you have turned on? I have some of them off (smart pause, etc). Maybe there's something there, or maybe my sensor isn't sensing...some of them did work though, so I don't think its that. Power/Home works fine, but it still bothers me that I can't get it to work.

How S-Pen really works [use your Note2 without touching the screen at all]

Hey guys,
yesterday night while playing around with my international Note2, I found something pretty interesting, and I was able to control the entire phone WITHOUT touching the screen at all, neither with my fingers nor the S-Pen.
Basically the phone doesn't recognize the S-Pen click/tap by the contact of the pen with the screen, the phone does recognize the "tap" when the pen tip goes back.
Now try yourself: with the help of *whatever you want* ( I used a poker playing card ), bring the S-Pen near the screen, let's say over an icon, and with the object you've chosen make the pen tip go back. If you're accurate enough, you will see the icon being pressed.
Now throw the object away and use your fingers, take the pen in your hand, keep the tip pressed with your index finger and have fun.
I don't know if this might be useful for some future development or has already been posted/discovered, I'm just sharing my experience.
Best regards,
PurPLe SKy
Wo! You're right... It works!!

LOL, ok, ok
I got my Note2 less than a month ago and I discovered that just yesterday, also the title of the topic didn't match anything relevant/similar
here's a funny trick you can play on other note (2) owners if they have a somewhat flexible case: attach a magnet to the back of the phone.
it won't hurt any of the electronics, but the s-pen will refuse to write above the magnet.
I figured that out when I got a nice 360 flip case with a not so nice magnet in the back.
it took me a while to figure out there was nothing wrong with my stylus.
How to use s pen without touch to screen please reply me

Quick glance?

So i'm looking over the PDF manual, and i don't see a mention of quick glance, which was an air gesture motion from the GS4 i loved. you just waved yuor hand over the phone when screen was off, and the IR would pick it up, and quickly display the time and any notifications. it was awesome because it worked at night in the dark, and i could just wave my hand over the night stand and see what time it was.
i don't see any mention of that feature coming back to the S5. anyone know?

I'm also wondering where that setting is, I can't find it anywhere in the settings menu.
It's something I used quite a lot...

It took me awhile to find and actually I found it by accident. It but its deeply hidden here Settings>Accessibility>Dexterity and Interaction You should see Air Wake Up there . I turned it on for a couple hours and you'll notice it eating your battery like a fat kid going to town on chocolate cake
Air wakeup is different to Quick Glance. Glance has its own anim etc and you can change what it shows. It should be in the next version of alliance if i remember

Excuse me you are correct. Nonetheless Air Wakeup could be a pacifier for the time being.
