record slow motion - HD2 General

Is there any way, app or setting to allow the hd2 to record in slow motion. Because it's an awesome and nifty feature on the omnia 2 but I can't find in the hd2.

no one replying....does that mean there is no slow motion video recording for the hd2.

the problem is wider than that.
I could find NO recording application altogether for the HD2 that was even able to record in background (none at all other than the stock one actually, even without background recording capability, none that worked at least), so let alone the possibility to find one that does exactly what you look for.
I'd say your problem is easily solved tho, you can move the video on your pc and easily edit it with a tons of free tools available both for the windows and the lonux platform.

Smartphones noob planning to buy HD concerned about video playback

Hello,
i'm really noob to smartphones... my last phone being a very old Nokia (5 or 6 years old) which can just call and send sms^^
I am now considering buying a HTC touch HD and what i am looking for is mostly:
a) big screen for reading comics
b) big screen and video quality for watching movies
c) gps
d) decent phone (call and sms)
My biggest concern, reading many topics on the subject, is the quality of video playback and the need to convert video files.
Is there some smartphones (with of course the appropriate viewer programs) which can manage any video (divx, xvid...) with good results? (without the need of converting video files)
Or it's the same situation for any phones on the market?
The HD can manage xvid files with core player? I think i read somewhere they need to be converted too but i'd like to make sure.
Thanks a lot for any calrifications on the issue
I watched a divx movie using the core player sometime back. but now I tend to watch the bbc catchup programmes which are in wmv.
I dont know about reading comics on the screen but of the few time times that I have read my ebooks on it, I found that I had to constantly zoom in and out.
for the gps is quick ok. I use Quick GPS to get a lock on my position and then use one of Google Maps, Garmin XT, Live Maps and they do just fine.
I don't have much to say about the call and sms except maybe that it does the job well.
It's quite easy: video playback requires processing power and a driver system which allows to make proper use of it. In addition, it also depends on the formats, which require more or less processing power. I believe you will encounter the same difficulties on all the other smartphones at this moment. The TG01 looks promising, but it then still depends on the format of the video file.
Maybe it's just too early for the kind of video playback you are used to due to the Web 2.0 and the x86 processing power. Next year, the situation might look better on the mobile market.
i have had no probs in video playback in fullscreen, i think it works well.

720p movie recording in HD2

as hd2 have snappy 1ghz capable to emulate psx i think its not a problem to force it to record movies in 720p quality. built in camera is also capable to do that so.
so, is it possible?

In a word, no.
ok ! but can you explain why ?
is that the fault of windows mobile 6 ?
7 mobile can do a thing for make it work or not ?
Thanx...
I think the true power of the HD2 won't be revealed with the Win Mo 6.5, my guess is that when Win Mo 7.0 comes out we might see what the HD2 is capable of and maybe a few tweaks here and there.
It simply doesn't have the drivers.
That has nothing to do with the version of Windows Mobile. For whatever reason (probably time or money), HTC decided not to put the necessary drivers on the HD2.
It's as simple as that.
I managed to install CoolCamera for HiRes Video-Recordings!
I managed to install my old CoolCamera version from my magician.
As you know, this software is able to record high resolution up to
1280x960 Pixel in MJPEG format. On my magician it works with the
highest resolution, unfortunately the device is so slow to record
a adequate framerate. (http://www.ateksoft.com/features.html)
Well on HD2 it starts and shows the camera preview, but I cant
access the settings because hd2 has no hardware pd-keys.
Problems:
- Preview is upside-down
- autofocus seems not working
- Cant control it without hardware pad-keys
Maybe a beginning..
Why don't you try SOTI PocketController (do not pirate, will almost certainly contain trojan) or MobileMe (freeware, preferred) and use your keyboard arrow keys ?

There's simply no point. You won't see any difference in quality between 720p and 640x480 due to the quality of the camera which is... mediocre.
If the processor is up to the job you will see a difference.. We are talking pixels here... The more the better..

Recording video in background

Hi there.
Anyone knows the way to continue recording video with HD2 in background?
I'd like to both make video recording and use the GPS navigation program.
Since the functionality of standard video camera application on HD2 is rather good (sound recording, different types of recording, nice quality) I failed to find any good alternative for it. I know only two programs which are positioned as video register programs for PDAs and both them are not suitable due to a number of reasons. (both apps I'm referring to are oriented to Russian market, AvtoDVR and MyDVR).
May be anyone knows the register key which allows to continue video recording after sending the camera application to the background?
Thanks for help!
I second the request.
I subscribed to a thread which has since long been dead, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=597003 where we were asking for this exactly (and a little more, as well) and AutoDVR came up too.
There's a problem tho: it's pay2use, and a program with banal background video recording shouldn't be (but AutoDVR still offers other interesting features, like video looping through MJPEG format, and gps speed watermarking), and it is severely messed up on the HD2 (as in, not useable, as soon as you switch it to background/lock the phone, the video gets garbled and the program interface does, as well)

Record video of screen?

I was looking around the android sdk and trying to figure out how to record a video of the screen, but I couldn't find option to do it. I want to record a video of me playing a game I made so I can put it on Youtube. The framerate needs to be smooth because it's a game, so if it lags it won't look good. Is there any way to do this, or am I just gonna have to hold a camera up to the phone?
Depending on the flow of the game, you could use WebKey to record your screen, then create a movie/video from the screenshots.
it would depend on the phone/game how smooth it is.. is there any reason not to just use a regular PC screencapture program and do it on the emulator? (since the PC would be more capable of doing it with no lag then a phone)

Camera <-> Camcorder Zoom Weirdness

Going to try to explain this... When I'm using the stock Camera app, the picture is normal. But when I switch to Camcorder, it seems to be automatically zoomed in quite a bit. And when I try to zoom out, it says that since I'm recording in HD, zoom functions are not available.
This is kind of annoying because now I have to step back probably 5 feet to fill the same frame of when I was taking photos.
Is this normal for everyone else too? Or do I have some weird glitch on my unrooted and pure stock ROM?
Yep, mine does it too (stock rom). It only does that in FullHD resolution. I guess the only use middle part of the sensor to read the data to achieve greater speeds, and thus it's gonna be a hardware limitation.
Who need HD anyway ? The lens hardly catch with it. I record 720x480 and I'm very pleased with teh quality.
Change the video recording resolution in the settings pane to 1280x720 and that should fix your problem.

Yeah I noticed that.
But that doesn't make sense. In photo mode, same resolution as video mode but in video mode it's zoomed in. Like Dr. Sid said, it seems that it uses a smaller section of the image sensor to capture video. Which again doesn't make sense. Weird.
This is definetly a speed optimization - scaling down the whole resolution of camera sensor from 3264*2448 -> 1080p is much more expensive operation than just cropping the central pixels, i assume someone at samsung was VERY lazy to have done the camcorder mode in such a lame way, it's still ok for recording outside scenes but useless for in-room recording.
I find this quite annoying also. At first I was wondering if it is a ROM glitch or something, since some of the people here stated that even in stock ROM it is present also.
I hope there is some kind of patch to this, full HD recording is really awesome and I hate to see the 'zoomed' effect.
Yeah noticed the same thing just last night.. Seems to also affect the camera's ability to focus properly in video capture mode as well... Shame on them, I wish I had noticed this sooner.
