how do i send a file via bluetooth from ASTRO? - XPERIA X10 General

or from anywhere for that matter...there's just no option for it

just tried it on my X10 and if you long press a file in ASTRO one of the options is "SEND"... you can select via Bluetooth from there.

it always crashes on me.. no idea why

The other option is that you can select "share" from within a number of the standard apps (mediascape).. then via bluetooth.. still crashing from there?

i tried that, no bluetooth option! my friend who has the desire also tried and he had no bluetooth option as well
i'll try through media scape but what if i want to send a file which is not viewable in mediascape?
edit: i tried it and no worky...i also tried the share option from skyfire and there was no BT option, BT was turned ON
is there an app on the market to control BT sharing?

how odd!!.. which build are you on? I'm on an unbranded R1FA016 in the UK. just tried bluetoothing some stuff to my daughters phone and it worked fine from mediascape...
(PS it was the envelope icon in Mediascape)

it's a prototype R1FA007 but everything works fine, BT should too
can you please type the exact procedure of sending from mediascape? i couldn't find the share option

ok.. in mediascape, select a photo...
Then when you touch the photo it bring up some on screen controls...
the 2nd one from the left is an envelope..if you touch that it says "complete action using"".. and has a list of options underneath...
one of them is bluetooth for me..
from there it goes into the bluetooth menu and starts scanning for devices..
Select the device you want to send to and Voila...

ok, that works, thanks
but what with sending other files like .apk files or .fbl (maps)?

I use an app called Bluetooth File Transfer. That is a really simple app to use for sending file via bluetooth!
Give it a try!

[SOLVED]make your iconia as a hotspot when no wifi signal around for file sharing

as title,
is there any way to do this ?
i want my iconia to become a wifi hotspot just to do file sharing via wifi to my windows .. i know its not possible to share connection as this device dont have 3g network ...
PROBLEM SOLVED
this is my way :
1. download 'power control plus' from market
2. put the widget on the homescreen or notification bar as u wish, but choose wifi tethering as one of the component
3. now u can on the portable hotspot using it.. and u can configure by touching the tethering symbol in the notification bar
4. if you want to exchange file with windows, just download 'andftp' from market, your android will be the ftp client and the device connected to the iconia hotspot will be the server (remember to the file sharing on the device)
when do you need this actually ?
1. when u want to transfer file from pc when there is no wifi around and no usb cable
2. when u want something on your friends ipad / iphone (dont know about this actually, as apple are very strict about file sharing, but sure u can use this with jailbroken devices)
3. with another device which can be an ftp server.. symbian may be ?
nb : you have to know the right address for adding in ftp client, in mac i can see that on system preferences -> sharing -> file sharing
may be someone can tell how to do this in windows 7 ?
thx...

well, what i want is an app that can make iconia as the hotspot/adhoc so later i can use these kind of app to do file transfer, because these kind of app will be of no use if there is no hotspot / adhoc to connect to ..

[Q] Cm7 help!

Hello,
I've had my wildfire now for around 8 months, ive had lot of different roms, radios and Kernels. if i'm being honest it got myself in a right mess with it all and i dont know what on my phone no more! I just need a little bit of help from someone showing me a good rom (i would like to use cm7) but what Kernel and radio to use with it.
Thank you
Dave King
CM7 comes with a nice kernel that is OCable from the start, so no need to flash a new one.
As for the radio, you should only re-flash it if GPS doesn't work. (http://rom.tat.tw/wildfire/wildpuzzlerom/radio/Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10.zip)

What is the issue. It works. Receiving APk files is some issue I think. If so rename apk to zip and transfer it to wildfire. Then use file manager on wildfire to rename it to apk again.
Also using "Bluetooth file transfer" application is good.

I am already using that app, it's just that I can't get my phone to send any file (whatever the extension is) to my MAC. If I go to 'Bluetooth devices', I get 'paired, but not connected' right underneath the paired device's name.

Maybe the issue with that Mac.
With that app, I can share my entire sdcard contents to PC over FTP.

1) your x10 have to be connected to the same wifi as your computer is connected (or other device)
2) open the app and check "Media server" (in order to enable the media server)
3) the computer(devic)e should discover the X10 media server but the access is denied
4) after trying to access you should get a notification on your phone with request to allow - allow it
5) you should be able to access the media server.
(i tried it with win 7 and ubuntu)

And how can I let my laptop find the x10... It is running windows 7.
I only open the "network folder" and see the x10 there. Not sure how to translate network folder the folder where you can see other computers in the network. Sorry not near a computer to make a screenshot.

The network folder directs you to windows media player, so it's faster to just open that instead. You'll find X10i on the lower left sidebar.

Voice Recorder

Is there a built-in voice recorder app on the Nexus 4 running 4.2.2?
No, but if you need a good one, I use ASR recorder on the market. It's free and saves the recordings in mp3 format.

Yes, "Sound Recorder", but there is no launcher shortcut for it though.
See the Description of this app:

I can't believe stock Android doesn't have a voice recorder. I tried the app you suggested but I can't seem to find where it stores the files after recording. I see nothing in the app to retrieve it and I don't want to have to search thru the file system for them. I'll look for an aftermarket.

The app is just a shortcut to launch the built in app. If you go to Settings > Apps > All and scroll through the list, you will see "Sound Recorder". It's been there since Cupcake days on most Android phones. The sound files are in amr file format if I remember (been a while since I used it), and QuickTime Player will open them. Now I use "Google Keep" which lets me create notes in the cloud with text, sound, or pictures.

Where are the files stored with "Sound Recorder"? Format is not so important to me as I just need to make short voice notes to myself and then play them back on the phone at a later time. On my current Gingerbread this was so simple and I had the shortcut placed on my desktop.

On mine, it's in "Nexus 4\Internal storage\recording69490665.3gpp" filename will vary of course.
There are a lot better apps though. For your use, I would look at Google Keep:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.keep
Later, you can access the notes from a PC as well:
https://drive.google.com/keep/
This is what I now use

Question Remove filemanager and suggestion on what to use

Hi,
I recently set up my new phone and copied from my oneplus 6.
Everything worked well but the filemanager from op6 is somehow transfered and I cant remove it, and I cant find it among the apps.
The app is inactivated so I guess it doesnt disturb anything but it would be nice to get rid of it.
And also, I need suggestions on what filemanager-app to use. (to be able to for example, transfer from drive to phone.)

Xplore by lonelycatsgame is a great dual pane file manager and all I've ever used for years.
Are you sure it was transferred from the OP6 and not the Android default file manager? It's called just "Files" (with a light blue folder icon), as opposed to the "Files by Google" (bloatware) application.
I was asking about the same thing in another thread, because the Google app really sucks, and I couldn't figure out how to get the default file manager to show up in the app drawer. Personally I'm using Material Manager at the moment. Have to give Tulsadiver's suggestion a try as well now.

I have tried using an app called, "Files Shortcut" from the playstore. Which essentially launches the same Files app. Instead of using actibity launcher, this has been a solution for me. You could try this.

Oh perfect! This was exactly what I was looking for, as the default file explorer is totally good enough for me. It's lightweight, sleek and it can handle network storage, which Files by Google can't! Thanks for the tip!
Thanks.
The same goes for me.
Thanks everybody for your input.
Solid explorer is my choice. Have used it for many years. Never found anything better. Dual pane, supports cloud storage.
