is there an app that allows you to login using Windows Live (MSN) and use the Desire's camera as a webcam ?
is there an app that allows you to login using Windows Live (MSN) > yes, plenty (nimbuzz, ebuddy...)
use the Desire's camera as a webcam ? > no, and i'm not sure many people will be interested, as the desire does not have a rear camera. A front camera would have been much more interesting...
And anyway, i know only one alternative windows live messenger client (aMSN) which achieved video chat, and it's still pretty buggy...
I'd say: no time soon. Sorry.

The question said is there an app, obviously meaning for the desire, yes there is, the best MSN style client for android is called MSNTalk.
On the desktop there are a ton of IM software available that supports webcam now. http://www.imessengr.com is web based and supports webcams and multiple networks, msn, yahoo, AOL, Google...
Google Talk also has webcam and audio support http://www.google.com/talk/ I use google talk as my main form of communication on desktop and phone becuase it allows you to be logged into both at the same time plus its extremely light on the phone.
http://www.paltalk.com/ I have used this in the past, Take a look, It's free and pretty darn good if your looking for new people to chat with. Also has webcam/audio support.

OMG, that makes me laugh (& cry as well at same time) Desire doesn't have a rear camera... plus if I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH KNOWLEDGE I SHOULD NOT WRITE/ADVISE HERE 2 ONLY FILL PAGES...It applies 2 you as well my friend, We should write here 2 share true knowledge...
I think there's a mixup between which side is the rear.
I'd say that the front is where the screen is (no camera) and the rear is the side that you don't look at, so yes, the rear does have a camera, which is what Fatriff said.
I think Phentex just made a typo, as there's a contradiction where he says it doesn't have a rear camera and then that it would be interesting if it had a front camera.

Additionally, I wonder if dougsdir was actually referring to an application that would make the Desire in to a webcam to attach to a computer (or via wifi/bluetooth) similar to WebCamera Plus on Windows Mobile.
I can confidently say that the next version of Fring for Android will allow Webcam chat via both Fring and Skype! I have already tried an early revision
I've never used it but strangley I just read a article about

Still looks like fake... I think it will look more like Samsung, flat, sharp, SMALL...
Unfortunately, having had the xda for a few months I've come to this conclusion.... you cant have small with this kind of device!
Normal hand held use
I got cramp in my hand using the Sony Erricsson for 20 minutes. This was mainly due to its smaller size, otherwise its a good device. Again I wouldnt want to write a story on it for 2 hours like I did waiting in a car-park the other day on the xda
GPS Navigation
Consequently the xda screen-size is also perfect for GPS use in the car, again, with a smaller screen I wouldnt like using it in that application either.
The only possible way it could be improved size wise is with two screens, in a fold out flip-phone configuration, with the same overall screen size as now, but it would be a pain for GPS.
Basically, If you want a tiny phone, this isnt for you. If you want a device that is highly versatile, ergonomic which just happens to also be a phone, (e.g. as a secondary function) a pocket pc xda / xda2 is excellent.
Groan,.... when are mobile manufacturers going to realise that the xda's user demographic already own decent digital cameras.
The effect of this will be you never use it, unless you're out minus digital camera and see a ufo.
lets face it a ufo would have to be pretty close at 640x480 to make it worth taking a picture of!
Wouldnt it be better to not bother with a built in camera until streaming video calls become affordable/technically available.
It doesn't like a phone anymore......
I'm afraid the signal will not be as good as the old XDA..

The camera's a reason for me NOT TO BUY an XDAII: In the industry I'm in, camera phones are banned for reasons of espionage. Manufacturers should keep in mind that this applies to many other businesses as well. The time will come when we have to go back to old fashioned wired phones on our desks because no wireless device will be available without a camera.
... it would really hurt to buy a new device and immediately treat the camera with a nail and hammer!
Martin
That's really stupid. If you can't be trusted to begin with, you could very well sneak in a mini digital camera anyway. Idiots.

Don't see how it could simply be a housing, because the camera lens on the Magic is in the center, and in the iPhone its on the left corner, i seriously think it's legit. I mean, Android itself was ported to the iPhone, so why not iOS to android?
would there be any other link to view this video?

I'm honestly not sure what to think, really. Since all iPhones have 3.5" screens, a Magic case would need to fit proportionally, so someone would need to make a bigger magic-esque housing, and that one looked pretty damn real (notice the backlit keys).
I could just be a video playing, but the screen seemed to be quite responsive.
It's definitely not a theme either...
Kudos for getting the iOS4 working with anything but proprietary apple hardware, but isn't this like replacing your high-tech, highly-customizeable batmobile with something much worse?
It's interesting that the wallpaper slides along with the icons like it does on Android, I didn't think that was possible on iPhone OS. I can only assume it's just an application mimicking iPhone OS (notice how the home button is bound to the back button).

It doesn't. I have an iPod touch with iOS4. Of course, mine has the nexus lines live wallpaper. XD
This is really cool, and I doubt its fake. It has to be very possible to port it, just who would really want to? You get nothing more than a few bragging rights because I doubt many people want iOS4 over Android 1.6 2.1 or 2.2. The ONLY thing iOS4 has which is probably more hardware related is crisp graphics. Games look AMAZING on iPhones and iPods but pretty bad on Android devices.

Soooo much noise and artifact in those shots, resolved detail not very good either.
That said, looks like HTCs best camera ever (apart from perhaps the Mozart with its Xenon Flash, but I haven't seen many examples from that handset yet).
I think that mobile phones' cameras are not for the ones who are obsessed with photo quality.
I am sure long years I will prefer to carry a DSLR camera even though I have got a 8 mp camera integrated phone.
i agree buying a phone based on its camera is silly, the only time i have ever used my phone camera was when i got a parking ticket so i took photos of the signage and my car wrote a letter to the council and got off without having to pay
if i know im going to take photos i just take my DSLR

Any chance in taking an evening shot (sunset/sunrise) without flash.
Also if possible another two low light shots with and without flash (basically the same shot for comparison on how well the camera handles low lighting with & without a flash).
Cheers.
Ouch those shots are really poor in terms of quality, noise, too strong noisereduction, chromatic abberation and hell everything.
I'm afraid Nokia N8 wins this round.

You don't need to be obsessed with photo quality to demand more from your mobile phone camera than the Desire HD is offering though. For many of us the camera is quite an important consideration because day to day photography with our phones is part of our regular use (most of us don't carry a DSLR all the time, eh?). Its nice to have shots that are 'good enough' for that kind of casual photography, and many other non-HTC phones offer that.
I won't, and haven't ever, based a decision to buy a phone solely on the camera, but certainly its a consideration, more important for some of us than others (but you can't dictate to others how they come to a decision to get a phone or not).
Can u guys share some samples ? pictures and hd videos, one of the things im most concerned about atrix aside the glossy plastic body is the camera, my god my milestone's camera is horrible! im so mad that the droid bionic got an 8 mp camera

I absoluterly DO NOT agree with you. I had 3 inspires (for various reasons) and I thought the camera (like every HTC device I have ever owned) was thoroughly dissappointing, especially the flash. Once you figure out the Atrix camera, its very good. I find you need to push it one stop as it tends to underexpose, but some of the images I have taken have been great.
I also believe the quality is better under 5MP than it is on Widescreen

leegoon84, try wiping the camera lens glass clean, I suspect you have a finger print or something on it to cause the haze. Also, determine where bright lights are coming from and use your other hand or something to block that light from hitting the camera - put a shadow over the lens.
You have to clean your lens before you take pictures silly willies!
