Hello,
First: Sorry for my bad english.
Second: I didn't find an answer via search.
Third: My Problem
Oneday, while a call, all buttons on screen don't work. I can see them, but by pressing them nothing happens. It is only possible to end a call via hardwarebuttons. The next day all works fine, then after a softreset the same Problem. and so on. I can't find any reason for this behavior. Between work and don't work I don't changed anything.
It is not a big Problem, but sometime I need the Numberblock for some calls, but I can't open them, because the button are "dead"
I hope you hve the flashing Idea for this Problem.
Thank you very much.

Check whether the below setting is enabled.
Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Today > Items
The setting "Today timeout", at the bottom left hand corner,
should not be enabled/selected.
Thank you for your very fast answer, but unfortunately it don't works.
What makes me wondiering, that the Phone works sometimes like it should. I can use all buttons while calling. The other day without changing something the buttons are blocked. I use G-Profile. Is it possible that this program is responsible for this behavoir? I have uninstalled it with no changes in behavoir. One thing additional: I found out, that not the whole screen is disabled. I can use the tastbar on top to show me notifications and and powerlevel (is this the right word?) for example. So, only the buttons belong to the Phonescreen are blocked.

Hello, everybody
When I press and hold down the "hang up" key, my phone goes in lock mode. That's great. But is there someway to get the phone to do this automaticly? For example after 30 sec or so. I've not found any solutions here in this forum.
I know there is some 3rd part program that can fix this, but I have read that there is some issues with these programs, so I really hope that I can manage to do this without any 3rd part programs.
I will be very happy if someone could help me with this issue
(I'm terribly sorry for my bad english)
Go to Start > Settings > tab Advanced.
There, just set the options you want. Basicly, when it turns off the display at the times you set, the phone also locks.
(actually, it only locks when the 2nd option is activated, which is something like "Turn off device when not used for...". It's not really turned Off, the Display just goes off, and the phone gets locked).

Thanks for quick answer.
Actually there is no tab Advanced when I go to Settings. I have three tabs in Settings, it's in norwegian, but I can try to transelate it to english: Personal - System - Connections. I can't find any of the options you mentioned in your post.
I also like to be more precise with my problem: My display turnes of after some sec, but that not the same as the key lock-function I want. When I press and hold my "hang up"- key I have to press "Unlock" in the down right corner and then I have to confirm it in the middle of the screen afterwards to unlock it. I want my phone to automatically lock after some time not only turn of the screen.
When I have my phone in the pocket I often accidentaly turn on the screen with the power button and the phone starts to call someone. That won't happen with the key lock activated.
Hmm, well, for me, when the Screen turns Off, it Auto-locks the phone. So what you want. This is with the Default HTC Rom.
I wrote the location wrong, it is:
Start > Settings > tab System > Energy > tab Advanced.
Edit 2: Ok, now I realised why this is working for me. I used HD Tweak to change something.
With what I did, I have *exactly* what you want: Device goes off after x seconds, and then locks.
1) I used HD Tweak (from this forum)
2) There go to: 4) Lock > 4.1 AutoLock
3) Turn that on.
4) Go back to this: Start > Settings > tab System > Energy > tab Advanced.
5) There turn OFF the 1st Option (which dims it to half screen brightness, but it's buggy with the option I mentioned at 2), HD Tweak Warns for it. So by turning off this option, you work around that bug)
6) Turn on the 2nd Option (Turn off Device after X time) (which actually means turn off Screen...)
Now, what this does in my case is:
1) After 1 Minute my Screen goess Off because of the setting under Start > Settings > tab System > Energy > tab Advanced.
2) Because of the HD Tweak, it locks the keypad.
So thats what you want.
Thank you very much, Seven_PRX! Your instructions worked perfectly, and just the way I wanted

With this solution, I had problem when the screen dims : the screen locks itself too. So, I needed to unlock it, but the screen doesn't light up no more. I had to switch my phone ON then OFF to have the full brightness back. But maybe it was a bug with my install...
But now, I use VJDeviceLock with its "VJDeviceLockInstall" that lock the phone when I switch it ON. If you have the problem I had, it might be the solution

That's why I don't have this problem you mentioned
Yep, I saw that just after posting my comment
But I like to have the light to dim to warn me that the screen is going off... So I thought I could give you another way to have an "autolock" function
Btw, a quick way to unlock your phone & turn the screen on is simply by taking out your stylus (this unlocks the phone & turns the display on). It's quicker than pressing the On button and then Pressing "unlock" twice.
Hi,
I have read and tried what I could find, but it does not work on my Jade.
Are there any new ideas how to keep the screen from swithching off?
Joe
This is copied from the Jade Manual:
Call functions
When a call is in progress, tap the available buttons on the Phone screen to put a
call on hold, dial another contact for a phone conference, enter notes about the
conversation, and more.
None of the above is possible because the screen disappears by itself.
Do HTC know about it? This seems to be a major f...up.
This problem has been discussed in many threads, there is no real solution.
If you activate the speaker for hands-free immediately after connecting the screen keeps on.
on mine the screen goes off... but if i press one fo the direction buttons it comes back on and stays on so i can use the keypad or look at contacts etc
Thank you guys.
I will try to contact HTC because I think this is a major fault. There is no access to those Call Functions if the screen disappears.
But people should also have the choice of switching the screen off to conserve battery during long conversations. That should be one of the Call Functions.
I tried to bring the screen back by pressing the OK button, but instead it ended the call. So why do we need the END button ?? Poor HTC. They are in front of themselves. Ever producing new half-baked models without thinking it properly out.
I have not tried the < or > buttons, but it would be risky because usually the OK button gets activated as well.
Has anybody on any HTC forum tried to petition HTC? I think this issue would be a nice one for a petition.
Joe
you say you dont want the screen to switch off but u dont want the < and > active?
tring to understand what you want/dont want here?
if i press < or > the screen comes on fully functional...
I did not say I did not want the < > keys active. I don't care what those keys do because I don't use them. The reason is that when I use them, I always inadvertently activate the Enter button. On my phone that terminates the call - the same as the End key.
It would be nice (and even logical) to have the Enter (OK) button to wake up the screen instead of the directional buttons. Maybe there is a registry tweak to do that.

I think it's about getting used to and familiarising with the intended design and button functions. Now after nearly 12 months using Jade I have no complaints. Even using phone banking, no problem with inputting the required numbers. Concur with MvBoe and DJHicks. It should also be acknowledged that this is 80% PDA and 20%phone (roughly).

I was playing with the < and > keys to try to bring the screen back on, and I can definitelly tell you it does not work on my phone.
While doing that, I accidentally pressed the Power on/off switch - and voilá - the screen came back on and stayed on.
I repeated the experiment to confirm it.
Why didn't I think of it earlier? So obvious.

Good for you Joe. I suppose many other Jade users are already using that method. I thought you knew it already but wanting something more simpler.

Also with other buttons if you set your phone to wake up with all buttons. See item #10 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476493

The slider works fine with me, but, when I use the answer button, the slider stop working. I always need to turn the phone off and take the battery out and put it in again.
Please, help me with a cap to reset the functions of the buttons.

Is there any solution??

Hi,
Check whether the below setting is enabled.
Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Today > Items
The setting "Today timeout", at the bottom left hand corner,
should not be selected/enabled.
Recently I just found out how to fix my girl friends dialer, I had the hardest time finding any info that could help me solve the problem.
Everytime she would try to make a phone call and have to push any button on the dialpad her phone would either lock up and not allow her to push any buttons or the screen would turn off until the call had ended.
After research I realized was from this double tap feature that samsung used to stop you from hitting dialpad with your ear or in your pocket...
Anyway this is how I fixed it
1- first you need developer option.. By clicking your build number, in about phone 7 times, when u back out you will see the menu.. Half way down the page you will find ANIMATION DURATION SET THIS TO ---- .0. ----
2 change lockscreen setting to tapping lock button... Instead of swipe..
3 . making sure anything to do with gestures while in call are turned off.. In accessiblity . when window pops up about some voice whatever... Cancel it ... And in accessibility turn off power button ends call. Also if you have custom ROM with active display u will find more to do with this. U want to make sure pocket mode and anything to do with it has been turned off.
4. If your phone is rooted lastly I deleted- voice dialer
Doing this solved my girlfriends problems for the time being. In the past, just kept coming back so I pray
Please let me know if thus worked for or has helped you.
thanks...
I am having trouble answering income calls. The only option seems to be to swipe the circle. About half the time it fails resulting in me not being able to answer the phone and the caller going to voicemail.
The flip down to not answer and bring to ear to answer also seems to work about 50/50. Is there a setting I am missing to swipe and answer or hit a button and answer? The drag the circle answer just is not cutting it.
LG v20 - AT&T flavor
Nothing? Makes the phone questionable....
I agree that swiping to 'outside' the circle doesn't always work, but not to the tune of 50%.
On rare occasions, I sometimes see the circles replaced with a row of square (rectangle) boxes with the same functionality as the circles, yet they say "Touch" instead of "Swipe" for results. I don't know how to make that a permanent action though.
BTW ... the concept behind swiping to answer is so you can't inadvertently answer/cancel a call just by grabbing the phone in the wrong spot, so depending on where/how you use the phone ... be careful what you ask for as it may come with unintended results. If you're really having an issue with the Swiping aspect of answering a call, see if it's the same on the display in the store ... if not, you have a faulty phone and they'll give you another under warranty.
My two swipes worth.
In phone settings you can change it to touch and hold to answer. Works much better.
Androiddiego is right.
My phone is through Verizon and here's how it maps out: Settings ---> Accessability ---> Dexterity & Interaction ---> Touch & Hold for calls ---> slide button to "ON".
This is better than the swipe to answer!
That is really cool! On my T-mobile the sequence is:
Settings --> General --> Accessibility --> Motor and cognition --> Touch and hold for calls

Yes.
This is great! You have no idea how frustrating this was. This is the same for AT&T as T-Mobile.
