html email - HD2 General

hi all,
in my active sync settings there is a setting for html email but it is greyed out. anyone know if its possible to enable? i want to see images in my email. thanks.

Html email is available and works on the HD2; I use it. However it works only if your exchange server is 2007 or later. If it's 2003 or older, html email is not supported over activesync. Could that be your issue?

That's exactly my problem. Thanks for pointing it out. Now I'll have to upgrade exchange server LOL!

There are several of them; please see the Mailer Bible at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=569&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
I read the many articles you reference in your blog, but I still can not find a client that will show HTML email when using an Exchange Server..Flexmail will for POP and IMAP, but not yet for exchange...
Any clients that use push and html email for MS Exchange??

html email

I tried to find this on google, but no results turned back for windows mobile 5.
I awnted to know if i can install an add-on or program to support html email. let me know. thanks
As far as I know HTML email is only supported under WM6 and Exchange 07.
I use gmail and there used to my a link for html email but then they look it away. I copied the entire url for the html version and I favorite'd that one. If you try to do it otherwise it will redirect you to the gmail pda version, but using the direct (huge) link it will render in html.
All good and well but in my built in email client wm6 i cannot download headers when i could always do in the past. when i try to download email to my phone it just says receiving 1 of x emails then never shows the header. has anybody else had this problem?

I have no problems with it, make sure in your settings that either Download Headers only is selected, me personally I have it set to receive the whole email file.....Just wish there is a way to have it bring in all images at the same time, without having to manually download them on next sync.

HTML E-Mail is supported under WM6 by Pocket Outlook and it does not require Exchange 2007. I'm running WM6 Most Beautiful Edition and I have HTML E-Mail on my IMAP4 non-exchange account.
You can get HTML E-Mail on WM5 with third party apps like Flex Mail 2007, but my experience with that program was it was far too buggy to replace Pocket Outlook for me. IMHO your best bet to get good HTML E-Mail is to flash up to WM6.

Online Sync Server

Does anyone know the name of any server software that works the same as MS Exchange.
I don't need Push email, all I NEED is the contact, calendar sync. email is optional but preferable. Sort of like ZYB but with email.
I don't mind if it runs or windows or linux as long as it just works.
edit: sorry, just realized this was posted in the wrong forum.
try mail2web.com that is essentially FREE exchange server online, will do all, including mail aggrigation, ie it'll collect mail from other email accounts aswell.
I signed up for that but the support over there told me there was no way to upload/import my contacts to my address book on their server. My contacts wouldn't sync automatically either so I closed my account over there.

You do have all your contact currently on your PDA isnt it? therefore by the first sync all your contact should be copied to server. sorry If I dont understand your problem.
no you're right bulldog, you understood my problem.
The contacts didn't sync though and when I spoke to support they made it seem like the contacts aren't supposed to sync.
What am I doing wrong??
Ok, found a way to upload the contacts but theres a 100 contacts limit and I've got more than 100.
So solution still pending...
i have a question about mail2web.com:
i have my account and i managed to enable an email filter from to provider acror to mail2web. also i let outlook2k7 to leave the messages on the pop3 server. so i could download all my mails onto my pc and onto my mail2web account.
i added the exchange server to my activesync on my htc prophet and it synced over air very fine. i get new mails onto my pc and onto my mail2web account.
but sadly it looks like this exchange server doesn't support html mails
i just get only normal text mail over the exchange server. did i something wrong, or does their exchange servers not support this WM6 feature?
to sort of solve my own problem.. Kerio Mailserver does everything exchange does.. just requires a small proggie installed with outlook

mail2web servers dont support PUSH HTML....just text... and kiero doesnt support HTML either...
Carnivore:
That's not a problem since its always on as it is! Plus, thinking of getting a VPS so thatll make life easier.
Shaile:
Are you using the free or paid version? I was experimenting with the free one and I couldn't seem to upload more than 100.
Walsh:
Don't really need HTML, nor do I want it. So kerio not supporting HTML is a feature if you look at it from my side =P
Mail2Web configure PDA
I read an article today about Mail2Web and wanted to try it before I recommend it for any of our users. The article said there was a configuration file/program - have anyone of you seen this file - or know how I configure a PDA towards Mail2Web ?
I haven't personally tried it yet...
http://www.funambol.com/opensource/
"Funambol is open source mobile application server software that provides push email, address book and calendar (PIM) data synchronization, application provisioning, and device management for wireless devices and PCs, leveraging standard protocols. For users, this means BlackBerry-like capabilities on commodity handsets."
I am using Kerio MailServer and it works great. No problems so far!!!

Funambol isnt really compliant with any of the syncing standards.. Kerio looks like the best option so far as it works with activesync

Thanks dude this one is cool but this one is also not free service. even mail2web has closed free service. I am planning to host Funambol to serve free sync service.
Anyone interested?
Also you can use microsoft myphone service to sync contacts.
www.myphone.microsoft.com
But if you dont want to save contacts online the I guess PIM Backup s/w you can also schedule to take backup. And this even can take backup of mails, message.
Try Google sync
Try Google sync
http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=default
nuevasync is the way to go
free service does calendar and contacts from google, premiums ($25/yr) does push email.
uses activesync/exchange

HTML E-Mail instead of txt

I currently sync with Exchange Server (I don't know if that may have anything to do with it...) All of my messages only show up as TXT. How can I view them in natural HTML like they are sent to me?
I believe your exchange server needs to be Exchange 2007 and then hopefully on your phone (I think you need to be running WM6) you should get the option to select message format html rather than text

I am currently running Exchange 2003 (fully patched and updated). Then I go into the settings, It's greyed out and only shows txt.
Can anyone else read emails (of any kind) in HTML format?
nope
Rich Text on MSX2003 only.
You should be getting your Windows Live (hotmail) in HTML with WM6 though.
I'm waiting and hoping for a 2007 upgrade soon on my exchange host....

I created a second email account using IMAP to the same Exchange Server. I was not only able to access the messages in HTML, but also other sub-folders too.
It takes a lot longer time to "send & receive" (using IMAP), but it's all there.
So at this time, I am using BOTH Exchange (with Direct Push) and IMAP (in order to get HTML and easier access to sub-folders).
Ideally, I would like to get Exchange messages in HTML...

I have deployed over 50 Exchange 2003 Servers and so far only 2 Exchange 2007 Servers. I will not be deploying it into my own servers and environment until I purchase x64 Servers (Exchange 2007 requires two servers) and until after Exchange Server SP1 is released. The new Exchange GUI is a real pain in the @$$.
exchange 2007 or 2003 is enough

Yes, you need to have Exchange 2007 and WM6 to get DP html emails.
Still No HTML!!!
So I upgraded my 8525 to the official HTC / ATT wm6 ROM and installed the cab for windows live {Windows Live 10.6.33.0600 (Fixed) (duttythroy)} and still no html email.
I've done hundreds of searches and spent a couple days reading through the wiky, stickys, etc and still no luck.
Can someone please help?

Viewing HTML Emails

Does the default email client on the Epic have the ability to view images in emails?
I'm searching for a "Display Pictures/Images" button or option but I can't find one. All of my emails that are HTML based look like crap.
What am I missing?
It works for me out of the box. Perhaps your mail server is converting the email before sending them to the device. What type of email account are you connecting to?
It is happening on both my Exchange server and my Hotmail. Both are setup as "Corporate" email accounts in Android.
Have you done sync from those accounts before with another phone and had html work?
I done some more research and it appears to be a short coming of the version of EAS (Exchange Active Sync) that Microsoft choose to implement (2.5).
http://www.liveside.net/main/archiv...-no-html-mail-in-wm-6-xx-and-our-own-faq.aspx
From what I've read it appears that the protocol disables the show images/HTML email functionality in the mail client.
I guess my Exchange account (2010) does work correctly. Just the Hotmail.
I might change Hotmail back to hot being EAS so that I can view HTML emails. I have to research that.
I see. I figured the problem was on the serverside. Hotmail I can't not think hotmale when I hear that anymore.
So now I gotta ask... is there a better way to check hotmail from Android than using the EAS?
