Send To Voicemail - Hero CDMA General

I'm having a problem with the option for contacts to be sent directly to voicemail when they call. The option is enabled however the calls are not sent to voicemail.
I'm currently using DamageControl v2.08. However, I have noticed this occur on other ROMs as well. Any insight into this would be appreciated.

Happens for me too, I got really excited when I saw the option to. Had it setup for my mom LOL

Ha ha, yes it is indeed a good option for one's mom.
I do know on the stock 1.5 ROM, (and probably most custom 1.5 ROMs) that the direct to voicemail option works w/o a hitch. Curious why it isn't so w/ 2.1.

[BUG] Ghost Message Waiting Indicator in AOSP 2.1 / 2.0.1

This is the only thing that has stopped me from making the switch to one of Darchstar's new ROMs. I was very hesitant to make a thread about this but I've received PMs from other people experiencing the same issue. Here's hoping we can get this figured out.
Whenever I install a 2.1 or 2.0.1 ROM I get a notification telling me that I have a voicemail waiting. I click the notification and it automatically dials *86.
"Thanks for calling Helio by Virgin Mobile. Please enter your mobile number beginning with your area code." That's definitely not right.
I call my Sprint Voicemail box and I have no messages. I call myself and leave a message and then delete it. Nothing.
I go into "Call Settings" and change my voicemail number and the notification remains.
I registered with Google Voice. The notification stayed. I left a Google Voice voicemail and deleted it... no change.
I RUU'd, re-rooted and flashed darchstar's ROM. Mockingly, the notification appeared immediately.
I installed Flip's 2.1 Sense ROM and the Indicator showed up immediately, but I was able to clear it in the Settings menu. (Settings > Call Settings > Clear Voicemail Notification) -- This option isn't available in the AOSP ROMs. I've tried to push the settings APK from Flip's ROM, but of course the settings program does nothing but forceclose on AOSP.
I'd just switch to Flip's ROM and manually remove Sense, but AFAIK there is no fix for the Market in that ROM as of yet.
I've also called Sprint regarding the issue. I hoped that a simple reset of my voicemail box would resolve the issue. No dice. I did, however, confuse the heck out of a Tech Support representative at least.
I am not nearly as experienced with Android Development as I'd like to be, but I am trying to learn. I've poked through the SDK documentation and it seems like I might be able to completely disable that notification if I knew what I was doing a little better. This would be fine being that I've fully switched my voicemail box to Google Voice.
I have managed to get the notification to go away for a period of time. If I wipe, flash, wipe, flash enough I'll boot and the notification won't be there. Each and every single time it comes back eventually. I got it to go away for approx 7 hours about a week ago. I was so pissed when it came back...
The closest thing to a solution that I've came across is going into framework-res and removing the PNG for the voicemail notification. At least, I don't have to stare at that icon all day long that way.
Does anyone have any ideas that I haven't covered above?
You know Im right there with you. I have tried just about everything you outlined and I still couldnt get it to go away more than a few hours. Fresh 2.1 did slightly help the situation by being able to clear it but as soon as I restarted, there it was again.
Just out of curiosity Illogic, have you tried a new Micro SD card?

That I have not. I would be very surprised if that fixed it, but I suppose it is worth looking at at this point.

I have been waiting on a 8gb class 6 for 2 and a half weeks. I was gonna test when it came in. I have partitioned many times but I wonder if it is possible something is just stuck on it and its causing this issue. I dont know, maybe im just on my last ideas about it.
I have a feeling that it has something to do with the fact that we are missing visual voicemail on these unofficial builds.
When we receive a Sprint Voicemail on a ROM without VVM we get a SMS message that would normally be filtered out by the VVM app. When you clear your voicemail box you get a SMS that looks like it's meant to turn the message waiting indicator off, but the phone doesn't recognize it.
Been pulling my hair out over this for too long.

The only thing is that we seem to be the ONLY two with the problem. Everyone else doesnt have VVM and they dont have that icon everytime.

well i'm decompiling the settings.apk from both Sense 2.1 and AOSP 2.1 to compare them hopefully I can get the "clear voicemail notification" setting working in AOSP 2.1
Nah I got the same thing. Just choose to wait it out I guess.

Cool, so does that fix your issue? if so, mind giving it to me so i can update my rom with these settings for my next update? Thanks
I've opened up the settings apk with WinRAR and none of the files inside are plain text. Just compiled gobbledegook.
The settings apks are open sourced, right? Hmmmm.....
Doesn't solve the problem, but you could switch your voicemail over to Google Voice.

He mentioned that he had in the first post. It was also stated that there is no way to remove the icon. If he is like me, the icon is annoying.
No, he mentioned he tried giving himself a voicemail in his Google Voice number. I mean switching from Sprint Voicemail over to Google Voicemail. That's what I did and I solved this problem.

I have forwarded my phone to Google Voice's voicemail service and the icon remained. Did you forward it to Google and resolve the issue? That's what I meant when I said that I "registered" with Google Voice. Sorry... that wasn't real clear.

Illogic, I did it on Freshs 2.1 and it worked because Freshes has the clear voice mail option in settings. Not to mention, for some reason Freshs also integrated GV into the voice mail settings. It was actually pretty cool.
What I did was change the Voicemail setting in AOSP 2.1 to Google Voicemail. I just left it at that (didn't change it back to Sprint) because I like GV better. But I don't get the ghost notification with my voicemail handled by GV.

Yeah, I noticed your posts in the ROM thread regarding that. Just if we could, somehow, get that ported to the AOSP ROMs we'd be golden.

[Guide] Getting ride of the Phantom Voice Mail Icon (NOT THE TEXT MESSAGE ISSUE)

Thanks to a suggestion made by a follow XDA Member (Can't remember his name sorry!!)
Actually you can fix the Voice Mail Icon issue!!! The one that shows up in the top left corner, NOT the text mail issue.
Takes an OLD sprint phone and some time.
First, put your EVO back to a STOCK ROOTED ROM.
Get your old phone out of the junk drawer (HAS TO BE A NON ANDROID PHONE) and call Sprint. Have the OLD phone switched back onto your account (thus removing your EVO from your account).
Once the OLD phone is activated follow all the steps to activate your voice mail account.
Call your phone from a land line phone and leave yourself a message, then call your voice mail on your old phone and delete it. MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO OTHER MESSAGES IN YOUR YOUR VOICE MAIL ACCOUNT.
Now you can call Sprint back and reset up your EVO. Once your EVO is all set up your EVO will reprovision your VM account. Follow all the instructions to get your VM account setup again. This would be a good time to update all the radios, PRI and PRL and make sure you update your profile.
No go back into recovery and wipe all and either NAN Droid back to your old ROM or start fresh. If you Nandroid back to a ROM with the VM Icon on it, don't worry it will clear off.
Use Google Voice if you can from this point forward. I have flashed many AOSP ROMs since going through all these steps and I no longer have to STARE at the stupid VM Icon.
Bump this back up for those that might not have seen this fix. Takes some time to get it all done but I keep seeing post on how to get rid of the Voicemail Icon.
This process works perfectly.
Thanks, I'm tempted to try, but such a pain in the ass.

Yes it is but I am soooo glad that damn ICON is gone it was worth the time and effort. I have flashed back and forth between Sense and AOSP ROMs several times in the last few weeks and I have NOT had the voice Mail ICON sense.
Fixed!!!!!!!!! Posted my update on page 2 of this thread.
Thank you for posting this and explaining the issue in the unofficial CM7 thread. I was getting sick of people saying "use Google Voice" when they have no idea what they are talking about.
I have an old Samsung phone...may try this.

BTW, you don't have to call....you can just use the Sprint chat.
EDIT: OH MY GOD IT WORKED.

Unfortunately there us no other way. The problem lies with the voice mail that was trapped in your que... so to speak before you went to an Android phone.

I just tried this on my Sprint Hero and it worked like a charm. I have three small things to add:
1. You actually don't even have to call Sprint or chat. All you have to go is log onto mysprint.sprint.com, on the main page scroll down to your device, and select "Activate a new phone" from the "Manage my device" pulldown.
2. If you get a "Data Call Failure: Error Code 67" message when you first reactivate your Hero/Evo, just update your Profile and everything should be fine. You may need wifi to do this.
2. I would recommend that once you switch back to your Hero/Evo, flash a new rom rather than nandroiding back to one with the voicemail issue. I chose to try a nandroid first, and the issue was still present (although this may have been because I had GV messages in my inbox, not sure on this). However, as soon as I booted up a clean copy of AOSP, the notification was gone.
I have been searching for a fix for this issue for months. Thank you so much for posting this!
Hey, this is great. I hate talking to sprint, and that was the only thing stopping me. Will try this tonight. Thanks!

Just did this and it took less than 30 minutes. Trying to actually start a chat with them took a bit of time for me though.
Nandroid back into MIUI and it disappeared a minute later.

Same here. It helped that I had a land-line, and 2 sprint phones (EVO and my old dumb-phone)
I think I got lucky yesterday though. The night before I got up to level 3 tech and all they did was re-provision my voicemail account and that didn't fix it. Re-provisioning the voicemail does nothing, so you can tell them that if they want to try that first... it is a waste of time.
I got a level 1 guy yesterday and luckily, he had seen this problem before and was so easy to work with.
One thing he mentioned that may help people... when he sent me a voicemail on my old phone to delete, he marked the voicemail as URGENT. Not sure why that may help, but it worked for me.
I can use MIUI now without any New Voicemail (2) notifications!!!!!!!!!! I never thought I would see the day. Big thanks to the original poster.
Not sure, but I think you would be able to re-provision using EPST. Back in the Hero days when we lost data we would dial ##data# and enter MSL and reset the data. The phone would reboot and all was good! I wonder if something like this would work for voicemail. I have not experienced this problem, just trying to help.

This is true, however....for some reason when I tried to do this, it gave me an error message and I still had to contact Sprint. I guess it depends on the phone you are switching to. So YMMV.

[Q] Not getting voicemail notification

Hi,
Hope someone can help, I am running the Offical EE03 posted by k0nane and so far love the rom but running into a couple of errors and wondered if anyone had any thoughts
First problem and maybe the only important one, if i get a voicemail my phone does not notify me nor does any show up in the Voicemail app. Only way is to check the voicemail manually but sometimes i don't realize that I have a voicemail for days, even weeks. If anyone knows a way to initialize it I would be appriciative.
Other problem I have found but not nearly as pressing is I can't be heard if I use speakerphone or a headset with a mic, I can however use just regular ear buds leave phone in lap and they can hear me just fine
Why don't you update to ef02? That may help. You are still using the first GB leak.

Was having this issue on everything above ec05 as well.. might work for ya
turn off wifi turn on 4g
send a vvm to [email protected]
it seems that it doesnt know where to go on 3g, and CANT go on wifi but on 4g it connects and activates and provisions fine.
Thanks, guess i'll have to install new version cause it worked and it also didnt, it notifies me that there is a message waiting but VM app can't download it
Having the same issue with EF02. I tried the activate email address but I just get the message that voicemail failed to provision.

through a bit of googling it appears to be related to using a non stock messaging app. I'm surprised more people aren't reporting it. It caused some major problems at work today for me.
Apparently Go Sms Pro has a toggle to make it only handle incoming messages but it's not where it's supposed to be (Settings-Receive Settings).
Using stock Samsprint bubble mms and no go. /shrug
Didn't know mms app handled the activation voice mail response.
If I get some time will test the aosp mms app. See if that makes a diff.

Hmm, yeah I'm on Bonsai EC05. This has to have something to do on Sprint's side.
Ok, for a few users it appears to be related to new settings in Handcent and Go SMS
http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/305100#305100
For Go SMS users the July 1 update has a setting that automatically disables the notifications in the default messaging app. You can find it under "Receive Settings"
After you've disabled it try composing a voicemail to yourself and all the remaining ones should download.
Those on stock, I'm still not sure what's causing it but maybe try composing a voicemail to yourself and see if that fixes it?

SMS/MMS issues starting at 5PM EST 8/2/2011

Anybody else having issues not being able to send or receive texts as of around 5 PM EST yesterday? I thought it was my ROM (HW 002/Deck's 1.3b/Tiamat), so I superwiped, flashed a Sense ROM to update my profile/PRL, then superwiped again and did a clean Deck ROM flash and I'm still not getting or able to send texts...
Quick update:
Figuring something might have gotten screwed, I downloaded the individual flashable zips for radio/WiMAX/PRI/NV and flashed them individually, wiped cache/Dalvik, booted back into Sprint Lovers, updated profile & PRL and I'm still getting nothing. I'm doubtful about an outage considering my brother's stock EVO is sending and receiving with no issues. I REALLY don't want to get Sprint involved considering they'll give me a refurb with the 2.16.0000 HBoot and S-On.
Does anybody have any ideas? Please and thanks in advance.
I'm on PRL 60680 and I live in Atlanta, GA, if that helps...
Another update: I downgraded to PRL 01115 and I'm still getting nothing. I give up.
Figured it out. Google Voice/Sprint integration has screwed my SMS/MMS so I have to use the Voice app as my messaging app. Now I have to figure out how to get it back to working with the native app. Any ideas?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You'll need to be logged in with your Google voice account but go
google.com/voice/b/0/#phones
and you can uncheck "Receive Text messages on this Phone"
the other thing you can do is call up sprint and have them remove G Voice from accessing your phone completely
I was thinking about that, but then I went to 2 different local Sprint stores. One corporate and one "Sprint Authorized Reseller" and both stores had somebody who "claimed to be pretty smart" at Android. Both of which told me that I can't undo the GV integration. I've got SMS & voicemail working albeit slowly thanks to the atrociously slow GV app. MMS, I guess, is lost.

Verizon visual voice mail and 9009 error

I am trying to get Verizon Visual voicemail set up on my phone. I had it working with True2.1. After upgrading to True2.7, I now get an error code of 9009.
Here are some things that I have tried:
Turning off Wi-Fi
Turning off my Network Extender
Removing /Installing the VVM app, clearing data along the way
Clean install of True2.7 with just the VVM app
Using the build.prop from True2.1 on True2.7
Calling Vz Tech support
Contacting the ROM developer
Posting my problem on the thread for the True ROM
None of these approaches work. Im at a loss on what to try next. Unfortunately I'm back on True2.1 where VVM works.
Any suggestions from the XDA community?
Googling the error code returned this:
https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/830429
*73 undoes any call forwarding options (conditional or otherwise) and returns the account to the default forwarding setting (which is to voicemail).
Thanks for the suggestion and the search. I cleared the app data for VVM. Dialed *73 from my phone. Turned off Wi-Fi and disconnected my Network Extender. I than tried reinstalling VVM and it fails like before. Reports error code 9009.
What is really strange is that an earlier version of the True ROM works fine. I worked on True2.1 and fails on True2.7. So strange.
I would love to find the cause of this problem. Any other suggestions from the XDA community?
My guess is there's a service missing that allows for the vvm functionality. I'm running version 2.6.2 of the same rom but will likely switch over to stock one 6.0.1 comes out. Will then debloat using titaniumbackup.

I'm not. I'm on sprint. I actually think you're better off with google voice as your messages are retained between carriers. With carrier VVM if you ever switched, messages would be lost.
Another option is youmail.
