default alarm clock not going off - Droid Incredible General

i have set the alarms on my new incredible and tested them by setting them to go off while i'm watching, so i know it works. what i can't figure out is why the alarms don't go off in the morning. even hitting snooze (during testing) and then leaving the phone alone to go to sleep caused it too fail to go off again.
my speculation is that the alarms will only go off if the phone is already active, but this makes no sense to me. i read some threads of people asking about alarm clock apps and such for other model androids and everyone seemed to find their default alarms worked and were just looking for better functionality.
is anyone else experiencing this issue? if so, have you found any settings or whatever to correct it?
i am brand new to android (winmo before) so i could be missing the obvious. any help would be appreciated.

Mine works just fine, every weekday morning at 6:30am.
i did setup a special one last sunday for the first time and it worked great!
There is a setting to "play alarm even when the phone is in silent mode", "alarm volume", snooze duration(this is nice!), and slide button behaviour. 2x check those!

Yeah, it took me a little bit to figure this one out. If you're using a task killer you need to make sure to keep the "Clock" app running for the alarms to work.

I know a member over at ppcgeeks with the same problem. Clock wouldn't ring at set time. Long story short , advanced task killer was the problem . He uninstalled that app and the alarm clock rang the next morning.

if you have task killers make sure NOT to kill CLOCK app or it wont ring

Or just remove ATK, it seems to be a problem for people that don't understand memory management on the droids.
It was a huge problem on the moto droids on the other forums, and there's no reason to install it.

thanks for the feedback. this is almost certainly my problem.
i downloaded an alarm clock app that worked just fine even with my compulsive killing of tasks.
i'm brand new to android and have never used any other type of linux system, i have used winmo phones for a long time and couldn't have done with out a task manager.
i'v been reading some conflicting opinions on these boards about ATK use. some people think it is with out any real purpose and some complain that the built in task killer doesn't turn on till resources are low enough to cause performance issues. i can't really comment on this, as i don't know enough, but i can say that i have my 3g set to only turn on when needed and every damn app wants internet connectivity. so, if i don't kill the tasks running in the background the 3g won't turn off, and my poor, tiny battery will die.
or am i still making faulty assumptions?

you dont need to worry about that; android handles applications very differently than windows mobile and even without task killer your battery wont drain...

Tattoo device very slow...

Hi,
Just writing because i experience my Tattoo device to be extremely slow reacting. I have used it for 14 days now and to begin with it reacted fast but now it is very slow when touching widgets, scrolling in contacts, opening apps and so on. Has anyone got some advice? I have added some widgets and apps from Market, but could this really be enough already to slow device this much?? (It acts as my old HTC Touch GSM with WM6, which should say a lot).
Regards
Anders
Do you pwer cycle your phone regularly, and try downloading taskiller if you havent already. My tattoo is very speedy, but its running a wwe rom instead of a carrier one.
Task Killer
Yes,
Task Killer is the perfect app for speeding up the tattoo.
Make sure to enable "Kill All" when screen is turned off
Also ensure to add applications such as clock or music in the ignore list so that it does not kill it.
If clock is not added to the ignore list, then Alarm will not go off. Hope you get the picture

What is the real name of task killer with settings for kill tasks when screen is turned off?
And are we shure it's real necessary? Try to read this article
I have use Task Killer.. yes, it is very good app. it can improve battery life, can speed up. But my morning alarm never ring again after using this.
And one more question, why all android apps are consuming so much system resources.. I mean all of them always try to run in the background even when I do not require them consuming so much system resources, like RAM and battery??

If you don't exclude the alarm's process, it's normal...

Alarm, alarm that doesn't alarm

hi guys,
love the phone and its amazing speed and reaction but i had to take cab for my work because of the built-in alarm. it works sometime but i cannot seem to understand why it doesn't work all the time. if all you expert and guru have any idea pls do let me know. thanks in advance.
Are you killing the clock application with a task killer?
If you don't see the little clock icon (on the tray top right) the alarm isn't going to go off. Restart the clock application.

If you're using a task killer you MUST exclude the clock app.
The icon will still be there if you kill it but it won't go off.
As above, put CLOCK on the exclude list of any memory or task killers. Also I personally go to the clock app and open it and then hit home before I settle to sleep so I know its been opened and should be running.

THANKS for this - this was bugging me bigtime - as it seemed to alarm randomly and not everyday - try using "my alarm did not go off" twice in a week at work !!

I did. Got in abit of deep trouble
thanks guys
i was killing the clock. but thought clock is an internal program that runs no matter what. this is my first android phone and i was a WM man before. i have to comment that WM handles these things pretty well. anyway thanks guys, will try with the clock running in the background.

Not attacking you here, just quoting you on the windows mobile comment.
Android manages apps and memory much better than unfortunately most people believe. Task/app killers are unnecessary, and I frankly don't buy the "stopping 1 or 2 run away app's" excuse, if the app you're using is that poorly written, then it needs to be replaced with something else.
The issue with peoples outlook towards free memory is incredibly skewed by Windows XP. Linux and even Win7 manage memory MUCH better, and thus it gets used! Right now I'm under win7 and I have 5MB of free memory out of my 2GB. People blamed vista/win7 for being a resource hog from this same mentality, it is not!
App's don't need to be killed, if battery usage is a concern, check your battery usage meter. Chances are the refresh interval of that app is using your cell antenna too much and that's what is draining your battery. Reducing these intervals will prevent partial wake and reward you with longer battery life.
I find the little clue really useful on Android that was never present on Wm - the text you get after you set an alarm that tells you how many hours and minutes to the next alarm. I've saved a few disasters by seeing those.

Alarm clock sound not going off

Sometimes my alarms sound doesn't go off. I've checked all the settings, the sound is turned up, the profile is normal. The only way I can fix it, is to reset my phone. Then it works for a while.
It's happen to me a few times where I've woken up pass the time I've suppose to wake up. This morning I work up 2 hours late! . Lucky I didn't miss an important exam or assignment deadline.
I'm using the latest 3VOLUTION SERIES Rom for maple.
Anyone have any suggestions to fix it?
I'm having the same problem now. I've searched around, and can't seem to find a solution. Some suggest it's an installed app, but i can't pinpoint it.
Any thoughts?
(I have the Snap/Maple, with default rom, branded to Mobilicity in Canada).
Alternatively, are there any decent alarm apps out there that don't weight down the phone? I can't seem to figure out how to get more than 2 alarms on the phone.
Thanks for any help.

you should use a SmartTweaker.2008.v2.0 to fix it and you can get it through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664195
It may not have anything to do with rebooting. Your alarm might have failed due to receiving a notification at the same time:

Thanks for the suggestion, but there's little point in paying for that app when almost all of those tweaks can be done for free by other apps or direct registry editing. Also, I don't see anything on there that addresses the silent alarm problem.

Thanks for the info. This is both sad and alarming (sorry, had to throw in the pun). I guess we better hope we don't get an email/text around the time we're expecting to wake up!
FYI, I have installed Alarm Master (http://www.connectivetools.com/alarmmaster.html). Looks simple, but has a fair bit of features. Incidentally, the regular alarm regained it's voicebox and started working properly right after I installed this. Maybe a coincidence. I don't think message updates were causing the alarm to be silenced, but I can't be sure. For now, I'll keep using Alarm Master, since it has more option, and I don't want to risk Windows' alarm not going off in the morning.
Still haven't figured out how to get more than 2 alarms, though.
Alarms versus notifications
I have only had my alarm fail due to an incoming notification once, at least as far as I know. But yeah, I laughed out loud (out of frustration) when I read T-Mobile's note about "expected behavior". It's like they are saying, okay, we know that your alarm could fail but that's what it's supposed to do! I liked your pun, by the way, and appreciate the fact that I'm not the only one that finds T-Mobile's answer both sad and funny!
Anyways, I think unless you are getting notifications every minute of the day, it's probably a remote chance that both will happen exactly at the same time. You can also take the added precaution of having your notifications audible, I suppose, so that if one cancels your alarm at least you'll hear an alert for the new notification.
As for the two alarm problem you mentioned, what about using the calendar as an extra alarm? You'd have the two default alarms plus you could set calendar events to alarm whenever you wanted extra ones. In fact, I rarely use the two default alarms as I have all of my appointments set to alarm through the calendar. I have my work schedule and stuff like that set as reoccuring events synced with Outlook.
I hope that helps! I'm still really enjoying my Dash 3G despite a few minor annoyances. All phones have 'em, I think the trick is just learning how to avoid 'em.
Good point. I forgot about the calendar since I don't really use it. Since i upgraded to Win 7, I've had touble syncing my windows phones and kinda gave up on it. I recently managed to get my phone to sync, but I don't use outlook, so it's a bit of a hastle to get everything into the calendar.
I originally got my Dash as a temporary replacement, but have found it to be surprisingly capable. After customizing the home panels, adding a GPS (Tomtom), and a few apps and games, (and learnind to avoid the annoyances), I'm pleasantly suprised with what I can do with this phone.
I'm still using Windows XP so I haven't had any trouble syncing. But you should be able to set calendar events on the phone itself fairly easily. You could set an alarm for every minute of the day if you wanted just by making calendar events. I do prefer setting appointments in Outlook because you can get really creative with reoccuring events that happen at weird intervals. But when I'm on the go and need to set a reminder for an appointment, I just make one on the phone.
I, too, think this is a great phone. I use it for business all the time, especially e-mail, Word, Excel, and Adobe Reader. I also really like having the Notepad because I can use it combined with Word at the same time. I use a bluetooth keyboard with it so that I can touch-type but I like the built-in keyboard, too. I also really like the Task Manager, it's so much better for switching and managing programs than when I was using a Blackberry.
My only disappoint with this phone is that there isn't a flash with the camera but it's not usually an issue. Otherwise, it's easily the best phone that I've ever had.

Alarm bugs

Hello, i've a little problem / bugs on alarm, ring doesn't work, device doesn't "wake up" at the morning.
Some one have the same problems ? and someone have solution ?
Have you changed the alarm sound to another one located in the sd card?
I have the alarm sounds in the sd card, and sometimes the alarm doesn't work, but I put it in /system/media/audio/alarms (being superuser) and everything is right for me rightnow.
I haven't change the original setting or file location...
Did you maybe forget to add "Clock" to your task killer's ignore list?
Probably this is the main cause, i try one or two times and after that i give a feed back;
Thx
Very good, a kill process software is the cause,... thx to all !
You know, the use of task killers on Android is very disputed anyways...
Google for: android task killers geekfor.me
Take a read if you think it could be worth your time. I'm coming from Windows Mobile and was used to task killers before, had a hard time giving them up. But after 3 weeks of testing, I can say that using no task killer on Android has no negative effects on either speed or battery. Just 'quit' them properly with the back key.
I had the same problem using the Vodafone 1.32 ROM - Alarm would not sound in the morning. No Task killer installed on my phone.
I've since upgraded to the 2.03 firmware (WWE) and touch wood so far its working ok.....

[Q] Reliablility and privacy issues (sms and alarm clock)

Good day,
I have my GS now for about a month, in the beginning everything was really great. No problems but usual ones.
Since last week the alarm clock gets unreliable, it is set for each day, same time, but sometimes it is not doing anything and today it woke me up an hour early. I don't understand why such a simple and basic program screwes around.
And for now i was just texting with my girl, but when i received a message from her it was just displayed in our normal conversation list. But somehow her number was changed into the number from one of my mates, so when i replied my mate got a message. Don't understand me wrong it ends up in the "good"conversation list, but it gets sent to a totally random person in my phone book.
All in all these are not the things i do wish to encounter on a phone like this.
Any other people here experienced similar problems?
Running any task killers ?
Yes, i do run "advanced task killer"
Also, are you running an approved ROM or a pre-release ROM
I'm running on the stock shipped rom, haven't rooted anything yet.
Purchased it a month ago at a Dutch provider/retailer, it has no simlock and neither have any crazy (potential dangerous) application been installed.

Make sure the alarm clock is on the ignore list, though this wouldn't explain the hour early problem. Also, I'm not positive if the ignore list works for automated task killing, though it'd only make sense that it does work that way.
ATK is only worth manual operation IMHO, running it in the background, especially at night when the phone should be idle, will cause battery drain.
Besides ATK, likely cause would be firmware. Though you are assuming that this is a problem in the alarm app based on your question of how a simple program could go so wrong, there could be issues with your clock and/or alarm program syncing to the clock (not actually sure that's a process, but hey). Obviously, bad(/no) info in -> bad (/no) info out.
Ok, I've put the clock on the ignore list and also rebooted, it had been switched on for at least two weeks.
This evening (nightjob) i was woken up at the set time and the sms function seems to be working ok now.
Thank you for your help/concerns, if anything else i will keep you posted.
Lennart
The SMS mixup seems to be a known bug in the messaging client. I have encountered it a few times b4. Read some others had it also. It is totally random when it happens. I have switched to handcent and it doesn't have this problem.
