Having a little trouble finding out what has been done to my Magic.
Prior to sending off for repairs (the phone wasn't finding networks anymore) when loading fastboot I got this:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0004
Now, after the repairs (and curiously, getting a new IMEI)
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0007
Should have have expected a perfected spl, but the thing that confuses me is what the unknown means???
Also, I noticed that despite them claiming to have installed a new main PCB, most of the minor customisations are still there, my selected ringtone and notification tone, the additions to the dictionary, even the firmware was still 1.6 when I expected to have to get the OTA update again.
I think I've been royally screwed over by Fonebiz here, can anyone give some insight into my questions?
simply they gave you an almost unrootable phone**looks at my sig**.

The SPL is not really a problem to me, I have found how to fix this already as I expected it to happen.
It's the 'UNKNOWN' bit thats getting to me. After an hour on the phone to HTC they told me some bs story about how it's not going to affect my phone amd other round about answers that were never direct, but no answers as to what it means to see unknown instead of PVT.
Thats why I'm asking here
it honestly sounds like they gave you a whole new phone judging from the imei change
Sent from my HTC Magic using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
It's not a new phone, it's still got my screen protector on the front (I know this coz I messed up the corner of it when putting it on), still has the mp3 ringtone that I had assigned which was on my sd card (the sd card was never sent to them) and I filled the left homescreen with icons before sending it, none of which had been removed or even moved around.
It's definitely my phone. Just a new pcb in it, and has been flashed.
So, my 'unknown' question still remains unanswered

What are the my options for bricked MyTouch3G phone which boot with Vodafone logo?
1. Indefinitely wait for technical solution to un-brick the phone.
2. Sell the parts
3. Confess to T-Mobile customer service and see if they will take it back with some repair fee.
4. HTC warranty service
5. Just call T-Mobile tech support regarding a red boot up screen.
What have done with your bricked phone (mytouch, magic or g1)?
Anyone try option 3 or 4 successfully?
Update 08/18/2009:
Success on Option 5:
I call T-mobile tech support regarding the red boot up screen issue, after talkingg to two helpdesk person, and try Home+Power a few times and tech support have determined they will replace the phone and since I'm in California within 30 days of purchased, I can go to T-Mobile store and get an exchange. The tech support put a note in the system to indicate exchange will need to be done. Today I walk into T-Mobile store and as usual after a long wait, they exchange the phone without question or even bother booting up the phone. I would recommend anyone with MyTouch brick follow the same procedure and do it as soon as possible. I hope they won't bill me later. T-Mobile customer service is great.
quick question Waacow, can you get into fastboot and/or recovery? Also, I saw in the other thread you said that you successfully switched to the 32A radio, did you revert back to the 32B radio before flashing the OTA Rom?
No I couldn't get into fastboot or recovery. (back button + power / menu + power / home + power). none of them works.
Regarding the 32B radio, after i successfully switch to 32A radio+ROM, I did NOT flash the ION radio first. I just flash the OTA Rom (which also has radio firmware - i would think it is a 32B radio) and I suspect that is the reason why it bricked. I should have follow the Daredevil instruction completely.

In Japan, I called HTC Japan, but they said they didn't handle carrier customized device.
So I should deal with Docomo, but also I should pay $50 for replacement.
I just bricked mine today, chatting with online support. They will replace it, its just a matter of if I can pick one up in store or not.
UPDATE: "_Amber G: The MyTouch is supported as an In-Store Exchange, but we cannot guarantee availability in the store. "
I bricked my phone and it was past the remorse period it would turn on but with the red Vodaphone splash screen so no way to cover that up. Luckily, I still kept my handset insurance on my phone. So I called Asurion, Paid the deductible for the phone and the next day I had a brand new phone and all. All i had to do was send back the phone its self not back or battery. So basically I have extra backing, battery, Case, Wall charger, Everything, Even the black my touch case it came in. Yeah, I paid for 2 phones but hey I don't have to worry about not having a spare battery on long trips I have one and that is the actual branded not some off brand and the spares are 50 bucks a pop.
So I lucked OUT so lucky, And I said I would not attempt to root my phone what happens 1 week after my replacement new root method.
And Yes I did successfully rooted my phone with the 1 Click method. Running CYAN 4.0.1 Rom. LOVE IT. I really want the hero rom but Im not sure I want to do the extra steps to do it.
Anyone else have an experience like mine?
I think i just bricked my MT3G. All i have is the green MY TOUCH screen.I can get the fast boot screen and recovery but no nandroid back up.Its gone.I believe sd card is corrupted.any help would be grateful or am i screwed

I had the same exact experience as you. I tried to root mine the goldcard way the day the method was posted online. My friend and co-worker was also rooting his myTouch at the same time. We both followed the same instructions but he succeded and i failed.
Once I had my hands on my new myTouch i refused to root it because I was too scared and my friend kept bugging me to root it since I got him to root his G1 after I did mine.
Yesterday my friend told me about the 1 click method and I'm also running cyan 4.0.1 rom
So I ended up paying for the full price of the myTouch but I have spare everything. I guess I got lucky too

Since you can get to fast boot and recovery you are not screwed. Look around the forums for help cause there are step by step instructions on how to recover from your situation.

if you can get to a fastboot screen, you can still save your phone. load up Amon_RA's recovery through fastboot and boot up to it.
After having owned a Nokia N900 for about a weeks time i found a HTC Magic by coincidence at a local store here in Baghdad (Iraq). the guy said the unit was new and that it was sent to him by a friend from Holland or whatever. it was a vodafone unit that was unlocked.
being the gadget freak i am i immediately bought the unit for $300 dollars from him.
my issues with it thus far as are as follows:
The screen sensitivity is really awful. What i mean by that is i find myself having to really press onto the screen to get an accurate reaction so this got me confused... isnt this thing supposed to have a capacitive screen? maybe its the screen protector the guy has on (which i am considering removing) thats causing the misbehavior ? another issue is the scrolling (kinetic) is really really awful and sluggish. another issue is for example when you have the keyboard out and typing something the keys on the corners like the P or the A are amazingly difficult to get right. ...
now i know theres no screen calibration but this is awful...
so i am considering taking the protector off... is the screen as durable as the iphone?
I had reset the unit twice thus far (hard reset) and its still sluggish -- not slow but sluggish.
I wanted to install a custom rom on it but i am having tons of issues. some of which is the requirement to create a goldcard (finding to be difficult)
the details on the phone are ::

It is supposed to be a responsive screen. Try a different screen protector?
Rooting is really easy and simple.. just follow the steps at
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-root-the-mytouch-3g-or-g1-in-one-click/
Does it have cupcake or donut? You might have to "unroot" to cupcake because rooting is not possible on donut. Follow the instructions at:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g/
Of course, no goldcard required!
If you are just having issues with they keyboard then try HTC Keyboard app. Just search the forums for HTC_IME.apk you'll probably also find the calibration tool.
Also, try SuperD or FastTest (I'm currently using it) Rom. Either of them have a lot of cool eclair bits and they FLY!
i dont know about the no goldcard required. and i hope not but with that program shown everytime i click backup it says "Backup failed..."
and i cant get the Flash Recovery image button to come on....
then i tried the http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g/
and it says "Model ID incorrect!"
Update fail!
Well this sucks!
I swear, these ****ing phones are cursed. I just got the replacement phone last night, and I started on rooting it this morning. I followed crypysmoker's instructions (since they worked flawlessly on my first myTouch), but something went wrong somewhere. After flashing the SAPPIMG, the phone won't boot past the splash screen, but loaded fastboot. So I continued from there and flashed the original radio and hboot, then recovery, etc. That's where things got weird; it wouldn't boot into recovery at all. So I decided to start over. Now, for some odd reason, the damn thing doesn't even turn on! And the LED on top doesn't light up to indicate that it's being charged. Nothing. So now I'm stuck with two myTouches that are absolutely useless. Any suggestions?
You could see how far you can throw them away in a trash can like your playing basketball but with a couple bricks instead of basketballs
Or I could skip them like rocks across a pond.
Lol it wasnt the 1.2 but the original mytouch3g.. and yeah if you **** up the
radio's and stuff it will brick. It will go into fastboot and you will be able to use it..
once the battery/phone errors enough it eventually dies out.. and you need to get
it replaced. Idk what ta say.. since that "IS" the replacement phone lol..
Idk how many replaces you get but if you dont get another, you can part that phone
out to a local electronic cell repair store and make like 50-100$ and use that as
a down payment for another phone.. That way your not "completely" ****ed lol
Well you should first check to see if they sent you the same board (32A or 32B) and check the radios and SPL. You cant assume that because it worked on your other phone that the same process will work on this new phone.
Thats what im getting from you, at least thats what I read and deducted what happened.
You can't blame the phone and call it a piece of crap. I have had this phone for a month (MT3G 1.2), and there have been times that I have messed it up. But if you read instructions, search google and use the right process, this phone is impossible to brick. I have got mine stuck at the splash screen. I have gotten mine so the touchscreen doesnt work. I have also got mine where I have no recovery. But I fixed it (by reading and searching) and I got mine back to working order.
I love this phone. I wish this had UMA support
Nope, the phones all had 32A boards, though one had a different SPL. The same process worked on the THIRD phone and I'm running Cyanogen's 5.0.7 test6 ROM now, but I'm NEVER going to attempt flashing a radio nor an SPL without any good reason. I never did manage to fix the other two, even after searching extensively for a possible solution.
And what the hell is UMA?
Its a functionality that TMobile has on their Network.
Unlicensed Mobile Access or UMA, is the commercial name of the 3GPP Generic Access Network, or GAN standard. GAN is a telecommunication system that extends mobile voice, data and IP Multimedia Subsystem/Session Initiation Protocol (IMS/SIP) applications over IP access networks.
Its Wifi calling.

I then tried to install some roms, the only one that i got to take is
CM6-FroyoRedux-2.0-32a
It looks great and is alot faster than the stock 1.6
the problem is that the headphone sign is on, it's right next to the 3g sign on the top bar.
Now i can't hear the phone ring, and i can't talk via the phone. I cave to use the speaker phone for all calls. So some where along the line i did something wrong. And i have no clue what to do, i've tried changing roms, and everything hangs at the red vodofone screen, or it just reboots over and over. But i can always reload CM6-FroyoRedux-2.0-32a and it goes back to work just with the headphone glich...
Any help would greatly be apreciated. i'm new to the phone roms, but have a vast experiance with computers. so i'm a little noobish. but i can run the sdk fine, and the fastboot ect runs good.
Thanks
Well i got this rom to work on the phone.
2.2.1_FRG83D_32a
again, works great but still no sound when i make a regular call.
i have to use speaker phone...
Weird... If anyone has a clue why,
thanks in advance.

A little background;
I bought an HTC Dream used a few weeks ago, I successfully rooted it, and installed Cyanogen 6, and used the phone for a couple weeks afterward. Then late yesterday the touchscreen decided to die. The LCD screen functions fine, it is simply the touchscreen that has failed.
Literally every touchscreen device I have ever owned in my life has done this, I don't know why, but it makes me paranoid. As it turns out, this phone was no exception. It's one of the reasons I will never get a phone without a physical keyboard.
Of course, without the touchscreen, I cannot use the phone, as I cannot operate the unlock screen that displays after the display times out. Thus, I hope in vain that perhaps it's a software issue and attempt to wipe and re-ROM Cyanogen 6 in the recovery screen, using the zip file of Cyanogen 6 I still had on the root of the SD card. Now, the phone hangs on the Roger's logo screen.
So my question is this; should I bother trying to get a touchscreen digitizer part for this phone, or do you guys think the problem is more widespread than that?
Could a faulty touchscreen cause the phone to flip out during booting and hang or do you guys think it's perhaps the 'motherboard' that is faulty and I should start thinking of all the creative ways I can use a new paperweight?
Any advice would be appreciated. I like the design of the HTC Dream I'll try to replace this one I have to.
(As an aside, I am back to rocking my old Sony Ericcson W200 I got second hand from a friend many months ago that I was so very desperate to get rid of when I got this HTC Dream. Finally having a full keyboard and a real operating system was like having a massive thorn in my head finally removed. Now I'm stuck in T9-land again. I am so very, very sick of this thing's stupid orange face, not to mention the Roger's logo from the HTC Dream at this point. )
Just a suggestion, if you have a a screen protector on, maybe try taking it off?
Well I will try that if I can manage to fully boot this thing again, but the thing is the phone was working perfectly fine, even with the screen protector, and then the touch screen decided to randomly stop responding to touch. No changes were made to the phone at all.
Do any of you know how I might use adb to view what exactly it's doing while it attempts to boot?
Any help would be appreciated.
You mean
Code:
adb logcat
?
But it's working only if at least your kernel is initialized propery and your system starts to boot up.

Ah thank you for the reply!
I think you're correct, adb is perpetually 'waiting for device' while the phone attempts to boot.
I can boot into the bootloader and interact with that via fastboot and boot into recovery and interact with it via adb just fine at this point. What would you suggest I do to at least coax this thing into fully booting anything? Is there a particular image I could flash that you recommend for specifically debugging hardware/software issues?
Seems to me, you have a wrong kernel installed. Can you post your SPL/Radio combo pls?

So you have a 32b with 3.22.x radio ... I would expect 2.x radio and 32b or 3.x radio and 32a.
Nevertheless, I do not have such a deeply knowledge about possible combinations, but you probably could try to flash one of these kernels. For sure Terry will be able help you.
I will try those. It should be noted that I was using this phone with the current radio/Kernel quite successfully for a couple weeks before it decided to have the touchscreen stop responding and then not boot. I had made absolutely no changes to the phone immediately beforehand.
Thanks for your help, though.
It works! That Kernel update seems to have made my phone bootable again! AND the touchscreen works! Thanks! It's like christmas up in here!
I was using this used Sony Ericcson W200 that I tried to replace with this HTC Dream, and now I can finally go back to a phone that has a real operating system! Thank you!

Hey my touch screen is not working either so what is it that i need to do i dont have it on me right now..
