I have got a message saying my SD card is damaged and needs to be replaced three times since i have had this phone. Does any one know what could happen to cause this or how i can prevent it?
Could be from a bad card to the card not mounting correctly.
Here's a few things to try:
1. Turn the phone off and reseat the SD card.
2. Back up everything on the SD card and repartition it (that will format it as well).
3. If those don't work, you may look at replacing the SD card.

Well, you need to narrow down the issue: If all of the messages were while using the same card then get a new one and see if you get the error again.
If you never get the error again then it was the card, if you do then it is the phone.

Hi,
I've a Desire HD with the 8GB microSD card that came within. Randomly I got a message something like "Sd card unexpectedly unmounted and I can't access the card. The only way to have it back again is rebooting the telephone with the option Fast Boot disabled.
Any clue about what this should be?
Regards,
I had a similar issue, although I never got the warning, well, it never actually unmounted.
I would try and take a photo and it would drop to the homescreen. I figured I had to unmount and remount the SD card
I did a factory reset to fix it. Maybe the same can help you?

I have had the same from time to time and figured it was due to low quality of the SD-card.
So I actually just switched a few moments ago for another SD-card i got laying around. This is a class 6 card though and a bit better than the class 2 samsung card that comes with the phone. We'll see how this will turn out. Hopefully its a bad microsd card and not the phone.
This solved it. Havent had any problems with the card unmounting since i changed the card.
I had this problem, even start a new thread...
This is due to some corrupt file inside the sdcard or even a bad sector.
Try to do a "chkdsk /f /r" on the sdcard...
Hi,
I've checked the original SD Card with chkdsk as sugested and everything seems OK.
Since then I've changed the original card with a 16GB Class4 Kingston card and the problem does not happen again.
Let's see......
Regards,
If I did only "chkdsk /f" it also reported that the sdcard was alright... but I still had problems...
I had to use "chkdsk /f /r" to discover that I had a bad sector...
Now, for a few days I still hadn't any problems...
Oh, this didn't happened with the stock 8GB card... it was another SD card that I already had.
Replacing the stock card did help.
Searched but found no topics regarding this issue (in HD2 section and CWR).
Ive just done a backup of my ROM/SD-EXT and after rebooting its now saying my sd card is damaged and needs formatting.
Has anybody else had this issue or can shed any light on it?
No sorry m8, all worked fine on my side.

Indeed, obviously I have more then one brain cell
do your windows pc "see" the card, the partitions and the content? In the SD build days i also got corrupted SD card, but after i put it in the cardreader, windows repaired it every time automatically. just let the checkdisk run over and it should work.

It did but would read contents properly then just kept failing on everything.
tbh its quite weird, not only did the sd card report as damaged after clockwork mod but after I repaired by formatting I installed new magldr and THAT ended up ****ing cards up aswell because of the new major usbmasstorage bug.
Aswell as the SD cards it seems to have also broken 2 card readers of mine because since using the damaged cards in my readers one of them just simply wont read any cards any more and the other just keeps asking me to format every card I try, even on other machines.
i wos have same problem i was formated in win os 7 no prolems put again and work whti no problems
Thats really weird..
One last idea would be to format your sd from winmo. This way i managed to reactivate a "dead" sd card too.

SD Card Damaged. You may have to reformat
I am running cm7. I have tried MIUI and phiremod. I run the roms off internal memory. My problem is that no matter what i do i get the message. There is nothing wrong with my card. I have tried multiple different cards, all with no luck. Nook reads/writes to the card just fine. Stock software never gave me this error.
Re-formatting in android does not help. I even downloaded the sd format exe and formatted in windows, still no luck.
I guess I am asking if there is anyway to remove the error without removing then re-inserting the sd card. It is really annoying. If anyone else has this issue, please chime in.
Thanks.

What is the problem and what message do you get?
What is your purpose of using uSD card?

Does this happen without a card plugged in? A few months ago, my /emmc partition got corrupted and wouldn't mount, and I got this message. I wasn't using /emmc for anything then, so it took me a while to figure out that it wasn't my uSD after all.
Check Settings/Storage and see which "SD Card" it doesn't like. Android treats /emmc just like an SD card, to the error messages are misleading.
Does this thread match what you see? Maybe somebody can come up with a better repair scheme.

You got it! I took my sd card out, then restarted the nook. When I rebooted I still had the same error So I reformatted the card. Turns out it was the emmc after all.

Cool! I wonder how it got corrupted in the first place, though. Of course, I had just installed CM7 on the EMMC at that time, so no telling what I might've typed incorrectly.
after i boot up i get a toast notification "SD card removed" which is impossible since the sd is under the battery. i haven't touched the sd in months. anyone else have this issue or someone know how to fix it?
First thing to check is your cable. If you have a cheap cable, try the one that came with the phone ( HTC Cable ) . Cheap cables are notorious for causing all kinds of issues. Including the one you described. It has happened to me. Also, check the Micro USB port on the phone and on the PC. Make sure they're clean and dust free. If none of that works. Power off the device, remove the batt. Pull the SD Card and check it to make sure it's good. If it is load it back into the device and try it again to make sure it wasn't just loose. If after all that it still doesn't read it, you may have to reformat the card.
im confused what does the cable have to do with the phone reading the sd, few days ago my sd card just unmounted itself and hasnt been working since. i dont wanna format the card i have lots a stuff i need on it. the phone sees the sd in recovery and i can browse the sd.

I've never had this issue but you may want to try reformatting. Just copy all the contents of your sd over to your pc first, then format and copy back. It's kind of a head ache but if nothing else it's always good to have a backup... cause you never know when your card might get fried.

+1 to what Crump said. But if you do have a real HTC Cable try it. Or any other cable for that matter. Cheap cables have a tendency to fail. Which sometimes causes the card not to be read. If nothing else at least you eliminate the possibility of that being the issue. Also, it's easier than having to reformat the card.
thanks guys, it was the sd card i put in another phone (xperia arc) it read the card for about 5 mins, the arcs card was good in my shift. im formatting the card using the arc hopefully it works.
Hello,
My GS4 (1337) isn't detecting my microSD card. My computer reads it and I've reformatted using SDFormatter, as recommended by many users in this forum (FAT32).
It's not detected in CWM 6.0.4.8 and PhilZ Touch 6.43.8, either... I've tried multiple ROMs and nothing seems to work. I've tried two different SD cards, as well. Each ROM just says to "insert SD card"
Are there any settings in ServiceMenu options that might be affecting it?
I've gotten 2 replacement SD Card/SIM card readers off of eBay and neither of those replacements have done the trick. Thinking there's something software related.
Thanks in advance for help.

Unfortunately, that didn't work either. I wish I had another android device, to pop it in there, format it, and see if that works... it did for this user:

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Hi,
When I had an issue with a sdcard I plugged it into a camera and formatted from there. Maybe you have a friend who can lend a cellphone to you for this? Sorry, for now I'm out of ideas, only these two. If I come up with other idea I may post here again.
~Lord
if you insert it while the phone is ON, does it not even recognize that a card has been inserted? I thought that normally it will at least tell you that the inserted card is not readable and ask you if you want to format it?
is the card fully working on your pc? like, can you fill it with files to it's complete capacity without corruption and they are all read by the pc? if not then maybe a duff card? this is often the case if you buy cheap card online.
have you got a smaller capacity sd card that you can try in the phone just to rule out hardware issues on the phone itself?
Please cleans your micro sd hole with a spirit(which use in clean u r desplay)...nd format yor sd card in default extension. ..I think it worked...
