SD Card Damaged. You may have to reformat
I am running cm7. I have tried MIUI and phiremod. I run the roms off internal memory. My problem is that no matter what i do i get the message. There is nothing wrong with my card. I have tried multiple different cards, all with no luck. Nook reads/writes to the card just fine. Stock software never gave me this error.
Re-formatting in android does not help. I even downloaded the sd format exe and formatted in windows, still no luck.
I guess I am asking if there is anyway to remove the error without removing then re-inserting the sd card. It is really annoying. If anyone else has this issue, please chime in.
Thanks.
My problem is that no matter what i do i get the message.

What is the problem and what message do you get?
What is your purpose of using uSD card?

Does this happen without a card plugged in? A few months ago, my /emmc partition got corrupted and wouldn't mount, and I got this message. I wasn't using /emmc for anything then, so it took me a while to figure out that it wasn't my uSD after all.
Check Settings/Storage and see which "SD Card" it doesn't like. Android treats /emmc just like an SD card, to the error messages are misleading.
Does this thread match what you see? Maybe somebody can come up with a better repair scheme.

You got it! I took my sd card out, then restarted the nook. When I rebooted I still had the same error So I reformatted the card. Turns out it was the emmc after all.

Cool! I wonder how it got corrupted in the first place, though. Of course, I had just installed CM7 on the EMMC at that time, so no telling what I might've typed incorrectly.

Hi,
I've a Desire HD with the 8GB microSD card that came within. Randomly I got a message something like "Sd card unexpectedly unmounted and I can't access the card. The only way to have it back again is rebooting the telephone with the option Fast Boot disabled.
Any clue about what this should be?
Regards,
I had a similar issue, although I never got the warning, well, it never actually unmounted.
I would try and take a photo and it would drop to the homescreen. I figured I had to unmount and remount the SD card
I did a factory reset to fix it. Maybe the same can help you?

I have had the same from time to time and figured it was due to low quality of the SD-card.
So I actually just switched a few moments ago for another SD-card i got laying around. This is a class 6 card though and a bit better than the class 2 samsung card that comes with the phone. We'll see how this will turn out. Hopefully its a bad microsd card and not the phone.
This solved it. Havent had any problems with the card unmounting since i changed the card.
I had this problem, even start a new thread...
This is due to some corrupt file inside the sdcard or even a bad sector.
Try to do a "chkdsk /f /r" on the sdcard...
Hi,
I've checked the original SD Card with chkdsk as sugested and everything seems OK.
Since then I've changed the original card with a 16GB Class4 Kingston card and the problem does not happen again.
Let's see......
Regards,
If I did only "chkdsk /f" it also reported that the sdcard was alright... but I still had problems...
I had to use "chkdsk /f /r" to discover that I had a bad sector...
Now, for a few days I still hadn't any problems...
Oh, this didn't happened with the stock 8GB card... it was another SD card that I already had.
Replacing the stock card did help.
Hi all.
I have a 16gb micro sd card class 2 (sandisk).
Yesterday the message "damaged sd card" came on my notification bar.
I tried to format the card but i got no luck. With every i use i got errors (gparted, windows native tool, ubuntu disk manager).
So i bought a 8gb micro sd card class 4 (maxell) for replacement.
Sadly my htc legend doesn't accept this card neither...same message.
This time i'm sure the card is ok...because it works fine on any PC/Device i tried (including my girlfriend's samsung spica).
At first i though i might got an usb brick...so tried
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
with no luck...then i tried flashing another rom (aliba's Cyanogen 6.1, SuperBler V4)...same behaviour.
with dispair I took my girlfriend's 2gb microsd (sandisk) and tried this time with success!!
So 2 gb sdcard works.
8 gb not.
what do you suggest, crappy new sd card? or my phone got problems with sdhc?
What's brought all the old devs back?!
I've never seen that kind of behavior before... Hmm...

errors bring us here!
I can add one more to the solving puzzle:
in recovery (S-OFF) i can mount the card but while coping/reading it gives me I/O errors and than i have to reboot recovery to let it read some more (till a next I/O error...)
!!!
I'm Experiencing the same proplem. Yesterday I got the same error message "Damage SD card" I cant go into clockwork recovery mode to format SD card, I get the E:faliled to open/Sdcard/update.zip(no such file or directory). Its a 4GB Sd card and Im running CyanogenMod-7.0.0.-RC0-Legend-Kang....

I'm waiting to try a different SDHC card. I think it's related to bad quality sdhc.
I was able to format the SD card via PC recoverywindows.bat...so far no problems but who knows maybe in a near future I will probably get the DAmage SD card message again.
I had the exact same thing myself a while back. Although it probably won't help you, I took it out and cleaned the contacts (no doubt superfluous but you have to try everything, right?) and put it back in (twice), and it worked. It's been running fine for months now
Hi guys, long time reader and first time poster here with a question. I apologize in advance if this has been asked and answered, but I have searched throughout the nook forums and have not found a solution yet to my problem and any help is greatly appreciated.
I have been wanting to use CM10 as my daily driver on my nook for awhile now, however everytime I flash the ROM and get things set up, I run into an issue where the ROM does not consider my SD card to be mounted. I have adjusted the settings to be set to Mass USB Storage as one person suggested in the development thread, I have formatted it numerous times to try to see if that was causing the issue, and so far nothing has worked.
I know that the SD card that is in my nook is good as it shows up in ICS without any problems. Does anyone else have any idea on what I could try to get the SD card to mount properly in CM10?
Thanks again for any help, and many apologies if this is answered in another thread.

When you say mounted, you mean you cannot see it under storage devices within CM10? It does not show up in your file manager? That USB mass storage setting is just for seeing on your PC when you plug the USB cable in. It has nothing to do with seeing the card in CM10. And you tried formatting several times you said. How did you format it? In the PC with windows? You need to try SDFormatter which is a free windows program on the web. Other users have said that that makes them show up on the Nook. When the nook first starts up, it tries to read the SD and scan it, if it can't, it won't mount it. There could be something very simple wrong with the card that the nook sees and your PC does not.

Leap,
I have to apologize, I used the wrong terminology in my original post. It seems that the issue I am having is with the SD card being stuck in RO mode and not being able to write to it from CM10. Anything that I have tried to download via the Play Store fails to install with an error saying that it could not install to USB Storage or SD Card. I have formatted the card via Windows, CWM, and using the SDFormatter program to no avail. I have also tried to fix permissions via CWM and Rom Manager and that has not resulted in resolving the issue that I seem to be having. I love the speed at which CM10 runs, and if I can get the SD Card to be RW it would easily replace the ICS build that I've been using forever now, I just don't know what else I can try to get the card to be RW while running CM10.

The problem is CM10 is very finicky about the format on the card. If it does not like it, it mounts it read only. Look for SDFormatter on the web and format with that. Should fix it.
Edit, I just reread and said you tried that. That should have fixed it. Do it again but turn off quick format.

Leap,
Thank you for all the help you've provided, however it doesn't seem that doing a long format with overwrite in SD Formatter got it to work. I'm going to retreat back to ICS for now.

Just a question, after you format the card, do you move any files in it? I had the same exact problem and it must have been a defective file in my titanium backup folder because I had no problem using the same sd when I synch'd titanium via dropbox.
I installed the 19/11 nightly and it is better than anything I ever run on nook. even CM7
Tschumi,
After I finish formatting it via SD Formatter, I place it back into the nook completely blank and reboot the nook. After that, I try to download anything from the play store that requires SD install and it fails to install.

Use ROM Manager and select "Format SD card" which will allow apps to install. Nook will reboot into CWM and begin formatting SD card. Be FOREWARNED! You will lose anything you have stored on the SD card so make a backup and trasnsfer to your PC or somewhere you can later retrieve.
Ok so here's an update on this issue for me. It appears that no matter how many times I used SD Formatter to format my 16Gb micro sd card, it would not be recognized by CM10. I grabbed an old 8Gb micro SD card and threw it in my nook and it worked perfectly, so it appears that there's an underlying issue with the card itself that was causing the problems. Thanks to everyone for the tips and advice on how to fix this issue for me. I appreciate it.

I am having the same issue with my 16GB Patriot microSD card. The card is recognized, but always displays as full (26GB used) in the settings menu. I have reformatted numerous times to no avail. I have an old 4GB card in there now with no issues.

It is that Patriot brand and CM10. CM10 is very finicky about sdcards. If it does not like how one performs, it changes it to read only. You can try formatting the card with SDFormatter, which you can get free on the web. That may help, but it may not.

The other day I partitioned my 32gb SD card on a Mac and formatted it as ntfs I believe so I could put OS X on it. I got home, wiped and reformatted it to FAT32 and transferred all my files back onto it so I could use it with my phone again. Except when I inserted it, it said that the card is blank or has an unsupported filesystem. So I reformatted it again using windows with no success, then using the official sd card formatter v 4.0. Still getting the blank sd card error. After many more wipes/reformats using exFAT and FAT32, still nothing. I even tried erasing and reformatting in a mac again, but nothing seems to work. However every computer I've tried recognizes both the card and all the data stored on it, my phone just doesn't seem to be able to read it. Any suggestions? Am I missing something very obvious? I've also tried both quick and full formats to no avail.

Please use paragraphs. That is too hard to read and I had to quit halfway through your post.
You want a Fat32 filesystem. Did you check in the settings menu to confirm that the card was mounted? Try a different card in the phone? Try formatting this card in the phone?
Just a matter of spotting a pattern in the differemt combinations.

Yep. I would insert the card, get the error, then format it in my phone, still nothing. I tried restarting with card in, out, put the card in while the phone is off, etc. I know the full format on windows should erase everything from the card including partitions, but I'm wondering if some little bit of data from the Mac somehow stays stuck on the card through that.
Oh and I can click on "mount sd card" an infinite amount of times, it just gives me the error and unmounts.
We don't have enough information. Post the exact error you see, verbatim. And it would help immensely if you try the steps I suggested in my last post.
I've tried all that stuff repeatedly I guess I'm getting a bit frustrated with this thing and wasn't clear. And the exact error is "Blank SD Card - SD Card is Blank or has Unsupported Filesystem". I'm worried that my inexperience with macs killed my card

I'm sure that it is frustrating.
However you won't get closer to a solution unless you troubleshoot it in a methodical manner. Find out if another S5 recognizes the card. Then format it in your phone, reboot and see if that makea a difference.
.
The Partition Problem
Maybe the Phone just detects the Blank Partition!
Try saving some Files through your Phone to the SD Card.
Android KitKat does not stop any Reading Access!
After that -- Tell me what happened.
Try the same thing with Another Phone like the Galaxy Note 3.
If it just makes issues on the S5, then it is an Internal Galaxy S5 Problem.
Hey all, I'm hoping somebody can help me. I'm currently running a rooted stock S5 I have safestrap installed and towel root.
All of a sudden this morning when I open to my gallery and pressed on a picture, it would not get bigger. I didn't think anything of it so I rebooted my phone. And when it came back up there was nothing on the SD card, all of my pictures and my music has disappeared. I unmount the SD card pulled it out rebooted we mounted SD card and I got an error message saying that the SD card was blank or the files are not supported. Has anyone come across this before?
When I got home from work, I pulled the SD card out put it in a card reader and on my computer again there were no files at all on the card. I put the card back in the phone and tried to reformat it, it would not reformat. I tried with several different SD cards and I'm getting the same error message saying that the card is blank and the file is not supported.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you might wanna try minitool partition wizard on your pc with your micro sd in your card reader and plugged into your pc and when you pull up your sd card im sure youll see your sd card isn't fat32 anymore and is Linux so to fix youll need to right click on the sd and click delete then put back into your phone and format then youll have it working again, but sorry to say your files are now gone on your micro sd
