did you try to load rom in the recovery img? This also happened to me (triangle with the android guy) and I thought I couldnt flash custom roms. For some reason the regular reboot to recovery mode gives me the triangle of death as you call it.
I got around this by loading in into bootloader mode then going to my command console, getting to my skd tools folder, and then typing
fastboot boot (whatever recovery img you used)
Then everything worked perfectly.
They are going to move this to General....
You did not follow the steps correctly it sounds.
Did you Load Amon Ras Recovery?
IF YES,
GO into Recovery
WIPE data
Flash Cyanogen's Latest ROM
Flash Google Apps available on Cyanogen's front page Post
In future ALWAYS nandroid Backup...
If you did not load Amon Ra's Recovery, you should go do this from fastboot.
I'll try to explain it to you:
1. The Bootloader is unlocked (you see the open lock at the first screen)? If you don't see the lock this is the first you should do or send it directly in for repair!
2. Then you have to flash the Recovery ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611829) This you need to flash an update.zip Exact instalation guide is in the Link.
3. The ROM. If you want Stock then here you'll find it as an update.zip: http://android.modaco.com/content/g...-online-kitchen-optional-root-insecure-himem/
Choose one without includet Radio ROM!!! (See below why!)
4. Copy the ROM to your SD Card Root
5. Go into Recovery ROM (Vol Down with Power and then select recovery with the Volume button). There you select wipe and choose the first entry there (wipe data and cache)
6. Stay in Recovery ROM and selct Flash from update.zip and select the update.zip. Wait until everything is done and you are promted to reset your N1.
(DON'T MESS AROUND WITH THE RADIO ROM IF YOU DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING. DON'T UNDERSTAND ME WRONG, I THINK YOU HAVE NO GLIMPS WHAT YOU ARE DOING SO BETTER LEAVE THE RADIO ROM ALONE!!! YOU MAY BRICK (DESTROY) YOUR PHONE WITH IT!!! If you dont believe: http://android.modaco.com/content/g...odaco-com/303716/nexus-cannot-on-after-flash/)
7. There should be no 7. Everything should be fine by now.
Hope I could help.

@ Buck Shot, this is a development forum... threads with question shud go in the general forum... these are making the development forum a mess....
Some time ago i used the rom manager, to install a new recovery. Ever since then, every time i boot the G1 it boots all the way up, to Cyanogens froyo build, and it FC once i unlock the device,(with the slide unlock screen). Tried to reboot into recovery via home+power buttons, but nothing at all happens..... once i release the buttons it just boots up normally. Is there a way to fix this problem? Or is this G1 seen the last of its days?? I wish i could post the rom build version and the recovery what was supposedly "updated" but this happened over a month ago. I have been using a tp2/tilt2, but windows mobile is garbage and gives me a migraine,(rather have root canal than use windows mobile). Can someone please help me fix this????
wow, thanks for the overwhelming support!!!! You guys are the best!!!
get use it here, i posted about like 3 questions waiting and i end up finding and doing it on my own, But if you are able to boot into rom you are not bricked at all..
brick is only when you cant boot into recovery or bootloader, and you only get tmob screen or jus plain black screen
Q&A forum is normally faster.
As already said, you are not bricked. There has been a warning somewhere not to flash a recovery from cm5/6, not that anyone read it...
As you are on CM6 I guess you have death spl. If you want your recovery back, download you favourite one and flash it via fastboot.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Your doing too much with the SDK.
Simply install it, dont worry about that java stuff, just install it. Put your recovery in the tools folder. Open command line and fastboot your recovery in.
That java stuff is for developers --- you just need the fastboot executable and the recovery file in the tools folder and you can flash it in. And then go get a Samsung Galaxy or whatever.

Hi I've been reading these forums for ages but only just signed up, I'm looking to root my hero (surprise) and complete newb.
Basically current build/software is 3.32.405.1 so 2.1, followed the rooting instructions exactly, then rebooted holding home and power on buttons but it just boots straight into a red triangle with exclamation mark in the middle of it, I can hold power and volume up to get a small menu with apply sdcard: update but tried that after getting frustrated and that said that the file wasn't verified.
how do I get the normal recovery screen because already have a villainrom on the sdcard.
You need to do the root process to get to the care bear, then flash villainrom on the care bear, before rebooting.
That will get you sorted
Well I rooted using universal androot, then used the teminal to input the su (press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img (press enter) part of instructions but at no point do I see the care bear :S
I have the same problem as Ejen. The phone is root i have superuser permission i do titanium backup .I put RA-hero-v1.7.0.1 with Better Terminal Emulator. When I turn off phone and press Home&Power I get a picture phone with a triangle. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?
Yes, this is because stock rom automatically reflashes recovery with the stock one each shutdown iirc.
You need to stop this happening, but I can't remember the command. When you have root using universal androot though, you can stop it happening.
Or maybe it's too early for me. Wait till I've had a coffee or two and I'll revisit this...
Perhaps you can edit /system/etc/install-recovery.sh. A quick look trough /system didn't find anything like a shutdown script so perhaps this file is run by the android environment.
I had this same issue the other night, been searching for a fix, hopefully one appears here soon, thanks Pulser_g2, i was hoping to install your 1.5 Rom

Ah seems I'm not the only one well at least I wasn't just being silly then, well tried it multiple times but still seem to have no success even tried the unlockr websites method with no success either.
If anyone knows thanks
Right... Are you on 1.5 or 2.1 just now?
Could someone (preferably the most tech savvy here) if you're on 2.1, try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726118 and see if that works.
I'm trying to work out what's going on here...

I'm 2.1 and had been using your other guide to root my phone but embarrasingly got stuck at stage 2 whilst trying to set up ADB (my knowledge of cmd is very limited to the point I only know the command tree ), saw the guide on XDA and thought that looks really simple so tried that instead, then tried unlockr method when XDA's didn't work now given up and asked for help

Ok,... So how far did you get on setting up adb http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...de-Setting-up-ADB-and-how-to-use-it.-(Windows) ?
I had done up to part 4 using ADB, opened up cmd prompt I couldn't seem to push stuff to the SD card and was unsure what I did wrong.
When checking the USB works part 3, I used the link chose part 2, HTC sync users > ADB I couldn't find android_winusb when updating the driver software. I'm probably missing something or being silly now but I don't know

Type adb devices, and if you see your phone's serial number, then you don't need to worry about drivers. Remember to "cd" into the correct folder first.
I'll try that but CD did nothing I'm running windows 7 and it sticks on C:\users\username Can't go back

I guess that is already on the phone RA-hero-v1.7.0.1 as you said stock rom automatically reflashes recovery. I suppose that the method VillainROM Roots 2.1contains RA-hero-v1.6.2.img. What will then happen with recovery if i try to do again root with VillainROM Roots 2.1?
When you try that method, you get the phone booted into patched recovery, at which point you take a nandroid backup and flash a custom ROM.
this prevents the recovery being lost. Just try it
I'm not at home and can not install ADB and run runindos.bat. I have on SD card recovery and FroydVillain 1.5. That's why I tried this method.Next week I'll be home and if someone does not fix the problem i will try the method you suggested me.
Can I try to put again recovery with Better Terminal Emulator, maybe recovery was corrupted ....
i went through the same thing!!

helloo!! i apologise if i am interupting or butting in whilst your in the middle of other solutions... i just saw the title and jump right in. i went through the exact same thing just 2 weeks ago!! unfortunately for me there was no successful forums or websites at the time... it sounded like a simple problem, with no simple solution.
this may not be what you where looking for, but its a very quick easy method that definately worth a try.
so... am i right in saying you have the official OTA HTC android 2.1 update?? and you now want to get this rooted?? and have you also tried rooting using the two common methods, the "one click root" and the "unrevoked" one? thats wat i did and i kept being stuck at the same red triangle and exclamation mark.
those methods (and countless others) will not work with the official htc hero android 2.1. (as far as i know) what you will need to do is downgrade the phones software. check htc's website and look for the older RUU and using the computer get your hero back to android 1.5. (under no circumstance should you upgrade your 1.5 android to the 2.1 android via HTC's OTA update... its only going the remove the root access!!!! - always reject it)
then continue to root as per the numerous rooting guides. done? now, obviously you will want to flash an android 2.1 rom. if you want to keep to htc's original 2.1, you can search for this in the forums under 'development'. or go ahead and flash the custom roms (villianrom).
thats exactly how i did it. im not entirely sure if this is the info you are after... but reply back and ill be happy to answer any query - big or small. (i should warn you, im no expert - but this forum is filled with the earths most powerful brains - u should have an answer in no time!!)
I have an HTC Hero. I ran the simple root method and got Carebare response.
I too have read numerous threads in the forum here and elsewhere but can't seem to get past the USB section.
adb says no device
I can use HTC Sync to sync data to the phone.
The SDK is installed and I have previously used it to capture screen shots of my device.
If I try to run one of the RUU executables, it fails with a [114: USB Error] (number may be wrong but the message is right.
I can mount the SD card and copy files to/from it.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on a Quad Core AMD CPU.
If I do the Home/Power thing, I get the same red triangle as described in the 1st message of this thread.
Fwiw, I have successfully and repeated loaded ROM's on my previous phone (HTC S621) so I am not a complete newb (but i am newb to Android).
What am I missing? This shouldn't be this hard (at least from what I've seen posted anyway)
hi gang
i need some help.
i have use this alternate method to do the perm root on my MyTouch 4G. when its in bootloader, it's S-OFF.

If you are looking to get back to a stock fashion load the PD15IMG onto the root of the SD card and turn the phone on while holding the volume down button...
or you can use the fastboot commands via the "adb" to get things back.

sounds like clockwork didn't stick because that's the stock recovery. if you have adb setup then i would say push cwm2.5.1.2 with adb.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928370 use that to set it up if you don't already. It's really quite easy.
Once that's done and you have adb setup, download cwm2.5.1.2, put it in the sdk tools folder on your computer and rename it recovery and in a cmd prompt type EXACTLY
fastboot devices enter
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img enter.
Once you have that done, a MUCH easier way of flashing any recoveries in the future, 2.5.1.2, the stock recovery, or cwm3 is to follow trueblue's method found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681
Hope this helps you!

ALWAYS read a LOT before you follow someone's little video.
Cause one person.... not worth the risk.
Get the facts from 10 videos and forum users before you follow some random guy on youtube, even more so to the ones that can't speak without studering like a 8th grader asking a girl out
Call me a n00b, whatever. I am interested in testing a different radio on my Nexus S i9020a. I have recently noticed terrible download and upload speeds over 3G on my device since upgrading to Android 2.3.4.
My device is not rooted, and if this is a requirement to flash the new radio, then I will not do it. But my question is, can somebody guide me through the process step by step?
get fastboot (and adb while you're at it) working, then power of an boot into fastboot (or "adb reboot bootloader"), then:
"fastboot flash radio radio.img"
either "fastboot reboot" or just scroll down to reboot in the fastboot menu.

Hey, good to have you back here. Do you still have the ns or have you shifted?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
You need to set up adb, you will also need to have Java jdk in order to set up adb. You will also need to have to have the correct drivers installed on your computer in order for it to communicate with your phone. IMO you might as well root your phone if your going to set up adb lol its the hardest part. Good luck. Btw Google is your friend, read read and read so you wont end up bricking your device.

Hey, thanks man. My NS took a turn for the worst. I think I corrupted the memory as I could no longer write to the internal memory and the phone wouldn't get past the google splash screen. I spent a while thinking I could fix it (ODIN etc.) but finally gave up and sent it back to Samsung. They replaced the PBA (Printed Board Assembly), free of charge. I should be getting it back in the mail any day now. Can't wait, I've been stuck with my g1 for weeks now.
My 3g/mobile data is also guffed since the 2.3.4 upgrade and I'm going to revert the radio back.
I dunno if I'm being stupid but I can't seem to find any radio images anywhere...can someone point me to them please?
Thanks,

Thank for the helpful link. And to reference "Google is my friend", I have searchec high and low for some kind of step by step guide on how to do this. Somebody want to point me in the direction of a guide or write up quickly here in this thread?
I just re-read your first post and I don't think you can flash a different radio if you are not rooted (could be wrong though). Honestly, flashing a radio has much higher risk than rooting your phone (but still low risk as long as you check the md5 on the radio image you download and you don't pull the battery during a radio flash).
If you choose to root, this is a good guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545

I have the radio image I want to apply I just need to have some sort of guide on howvto apply. All this talk of fastboot and adb is in reference it seems to the Android SDK. I have the SDK installed and what not. But where do I go from there. Is there a way to root with stock recovery? Or just applyt the radio image without rooting in recovery mode with unlocking bootloader?

Fastboot or Clockwork Recovery is mandatory.
If you want to use stock + a radio. You can try renaming the .zip to update.zip and applying update.zip from stock Recovery but I'm not 100% sure if that would work.
best bet is to use fastboot or clockwork recovery.
Btw if you flash clockwork only once than it will not stick, than you can flash a new radio while still having stock recovery if that's you're jive.
