ubuntu on htc touch 2 - Touch2 General

Do anyone know how to install ubuntu on htc touch 2
I currently have 2 images with me
ubuntu-9.10-desktop-armel+dove
ubuntu-9.10-desktop-armel+imx51
and dont know how to install them on this mobile

Nope
Impossible

Nothing is impossible.
Just requires a lot of work from people with specialized knowledge, so unlikely to happen.

can i install windows on htc hero instead of Android

HI,
is it possible to install windows in htc hero instead of android soft. I tried to search but couldnt find anything thanks
BR Sherry
may i ask you why you want to do that???
I think he is just curious to know
yes someone was saying its possible and wanna know if yes or not if yes can anyone explain how?
br
there is even an easier way to get windows mobile OS: buy a WM Device!
Really a HTC Touch Diamond 2 has basically the exact same Hardware other than the touchscreen which is resistive.
Wanting to flash your android device with WM is as strange as the currently release WM Theme for android.
People are buying android devices to get rid of the old stuff (wm 6-6.5) why on earth would they want to install a WM Theme?!

thanks for ur reply but still it doesn answer wt I asked

Almost every people here is against windows mobile, so I don't think you will obtain an answer, sorry.
Lots of thread were started asking to run windows on these phones (sapphire and dream) and they always ended up wit people saying this is a stupid question.
My opinion is that it would be interesting, such as dual booting in your home PC.
I really wanted to get rid of wm because it stinks. it is slow i have to SR almost everyday it crashed etc. etc.
but now i'm using android my phone works great fast responsive. never needed to restart the phone and its on.
why trading the good stuff for the bad stuff. i used wM/Windows for years and i was never pleased with it now i'm using linux (on pc/hero) and its great IT WORKS so why would you wanna use wm.
youre question technically it would be possible the wm phones have the same hardware. but i think noone succeeded to install wm or viceversa. wm phones can start android but doens't work 100% and when the phone goes off they loose the data
Rather than just bashing WM (which of course I could do) I will state facts.
Android has been hacked to work on WM phones, such as the Vogue, Kaiser, Polaris, Raphael, Diamond, etc. This has been possible because Android is a UI that runs on top of Linux. Linux and Android both being open source, we have the program code for the entire OS at our disposal to change around, hack drivers, and make work on non-Android hardware.
Windows Mobile is (almost) entirely closed-source. This will make it pretty much impossible to run on a phone that it's not licensed to work on. Microsoft and HTC would have to both agree to running WM on the Hero before you'd see that happen.
EDIT: @commodoor: Yes, the hardware appears to be the same, ie. the same chips, but there will be intricate differences like memory addresses, IRQ's etc that would make this darn near impossible to achieve.
Just my tuppence worth...
I thought with the Hero having a capacitive screen that it wouldn't be able to run Windows... Thought the OS was limited to resistive screens... or am I wrong?

Nothing against the poster of the above but REALLY? Putting WM on the Hero seems like the most EPIC FAIL of all time. (I wish we had a facepalm smiley to put in here).
But constructively - from what I understand, putting Android on a WM device is relatively easy (for someone with the knowledge, patience and experience) but putting WM on an Android device is almost impossible.
Technically it would be possible to do... if HTC have drivers for WinMo to talk to the Hero hardware and Microsoft gave HTC a license to put it on the phone... but that ain't gonna happen any day soon.
But then again there exists a whole lot of skilled hackers that can make any toaster run whatever they want it to run... But then again WinMo is closed source. And the skilled hackers don't know how to make any drivers.
And WinMo is a really boring OS. I have an old HTC TyTN (the first one) with WinMo 6 Pro on it. It was really boring to use since the market for that phone was the business people and I am not a business-minded human. I wanted a little more flexibility and a nicer UI to configure the way I want it.
Android + HTC's Sense UI (actually TouchFLO) is giving me that kind of freedom.
Oh... sorry for going really offtopic on this one.
To give you the short answer to the original poster; no you can't. Theoretically yes. Feasible... no.
thread closed
people have given answers.....and ill close before a flame war starts.
thank you

How many touches can the HD2 recognize at the same time?

Hi,
in all the Reports about the HD2 they allways say "Multitouch" but i was not able to find out, how many touches at the same time the HD2 can recognize.
Is there anyone who has an answer for me?
greetz
virtually unlimited.
so is there an application around which uses more then two right now?
So far I've only seen dualtouch on HD2. But it might be capable of more than just dualtouch..
LOL
Physically the hardware may be unlimited but WM 6.5 can only support 1 touch!!!
HTC worked around this for the PZ in Sense, but there is no native support for multitouch at all.
WM7 Should do though so keep waiting and hoping..............
i see! thanks for that!
hopefully microsoft and htc will hear our prayers!
That is not entirely true. WM6 might not support multitouch officially. That does not mean HTC does not use it's own extensions. It does.
You must enable multitouch for each application in similar way as rotate (there is white list in registry). Then new events are sent to the window, which allows you to use more 'cursors' at the same time. Of course application must be made to support that. I've seen some demo (which only showed 2 cursors actually), and there was documentation too, unfortunately I can't remember where it was.

ralle.gade is currently working on including this in his kernel for Kiljacken's ROM
No,
ralle.gade don't work with MT now, becouse we have to wait when Wildfire kernel releases..
i see
i wish it comes fast
it isn't a real MT.. just emulating it thrugh the sw.
a real multi-touch is impossible and I think is very hard dev a software to do it..
we'd need a "hook" (maybe a "+" on the screen) to hang the position of the finger and then do the second move to do something (like rotate images..)
Wikipedia says resisting screens can support multi touch along with this reference
www.umpcportal.com/2009/02/multi-touch-comes-to-resistive-touchscreens/
I've even found that this company 'stantum' is also developing multi touch for resistive screens
i.engadget.com/2009/02/19/stantums-mind-blowing-multitouch-interface-on-video/
It basically requires the device to understand the position of both fingers along the XY coordinates and then process them accordingly.
Sent from my HTC Tattoo using XDA App
any news about MT?
hello man, the problem is that the screen hw tattoo is kind of capability, and is a hardware limitation to not support multitouch,
you could try to emulate it via sw but from what my experience is of counsel to give up, too much work for an outcome that would at most just enough
... and that is why tattoo is so cheap

Android Emulator for Winmo on htc hd2

Hey guys ,
i was thinking that it is mainly becuse of apps and games that people want android on htc hd2 since the other things can be done by themes etc,
so instead of making android for htc hd2 to flash from sd card why not try to make an emulator for htc hd2 which can run apk files or something like that since htc hd2 in wm6.5 also has enormous capacity
and i think with people in Xda doing so would be possible easily
first off in my opinion i dont use android because of apps and ggames, i use it for the user friendliness plus its far batter to use then winmo. Second we dont actually flash android on HD2 we are sorta "Emulating" already over windows

actually,no not really. Haret kicks the windows kernel out of ram and boots into android. there is almost no part of windows left running at all. It's basically like dual boot except that it switches from windows>android while windows is running.
i get what your saying and i think its a good idea
if any of you have used linux on the PC there is a program called WINE(http://www.winehq.org/) that runs windows apps within the linux os i gess you want something like this
if there was something like that i know i would use it

guys, do you even understand how winmo programs even work? -_-
Hey Splder ,
yes thats exactly what i am saying since there are already emulators for gba,gbc files(Gameboy) and even Psx(.iso) in hd2 so why not for .APK thats possible and i am working on it and i managed to install a basic apk but there were some errors

(Multitouch in Android builds) - (WinMo emulator in Android)

I'm asking this here since we are those lucky guys who probably tried all kind of builds/bases on Android (evo, desire, nexus1,desire HD,....) and Winmo builds! So logically we know the most about these 2 topics:
1- Does the multitouch experience change from base to base in android!?
What i mean is, have you ever tried to play a multitouch game on Evo base, Nexus1 base, desire base...??? Is it the same experience?! Are multitouch drivers the same in those android HTC devices?!? If not, which in your opinion has the best multitouch drivers?!?
2- Is there is some kind of emulator of Winmo in Android?!?
I mean there is some apps/games that are only available @ Winmo, is there is a special way (emulator or other if possible) to run those on an android device?!? If not, To devs and advanced users, do you think this can be done?!? What does it take to do it?!
Thanks guys!
1) I've tried Nexus, Evo & Desire and there wasn't any differences. There is a calibration tools in some builds with Sense but sensitivity was equal.
2) There is no emulator. In Linux world we have Wine witch can run Windows apps but there is nothing with Windows Mobile support.

Thanks 4 ur reply!
However i have read somewhere that Nexus 1 multitouch driver is a bit "faulty", if it's the right word!
IMO all these HTC devices have bad multitouch drivers! I sometimes have some struggling to play let's say Fifa2010 because i take off my left arm from "move pad" but the dot still at its place until i take off my right arm from the "A & B" buttons! So i realize that it's interfering one touch at 1 place with another touch on another place! Of course that doesn't happen all the time but it happens!
About 2), excuse my ignorance bcz i know nothing about Linux, but is it so difficult to make this "Wine witch" work on android devices to be compatible with Winmo?!?
1) I thing we have us own MT driver. Every screen & digitizer (or however its called) should have diff driver to work. But not 100% sure - it's possible we have screen & digitizer same as some other phone...
Multitouch in hd2 is locking when You have two finger in these same line (vert or horiz). To work You should move one of Your finger to leave common line (that "line" is quite fat!). I suggest try some MultiTouch Demo App from store - it's free and shows how its working in our devices.
2) Windows on PC and PPC are quite diffirent. I think its possible to make "Mobile" Wine but it's a _lot_ of work. And it's not 100% legal (Windows source isn't open). Moreover emulator will be a bit slow and laggy. And of course some apps will work, some not and some will hang Your phone
Hopefully cotulla will finish the sd bootable version of winmo soon... I know he's working on one that we can use with magldr to boot from sd. So with that we can have wp7 or android on nand and still be able to boot winmo when we want. Soon we will have quad-booting devices... WP7 on nand, and WinMo6.5, Android, and Ubuntu on SD... and maybe one day have a meego port that works well!
