Android Emulator for Winmo on htc hd2 - HD2 General

Hey guys ,
i was thinking that it is mainly becuse of apps and games that people want android on htc hd2 since the other things can be done by themes etc,
so instead of making android for htc hd2 to flash from sd card why not try to make an emulator for htc hd2 which can run apk files or something like that since htc hd2 in wm6.5 also has enormous capacity
and i think with people in Xda doing so would be possible easily

first off in my opinion i dont use android because of apps and ggames, i use it for the user friendliness plus its far batter to use then winmo. Second we dont actually flash android on HD2 we are sorta "Emulating" already over windows

actually,no not really. Haret kicks the windows kernel out of ram and boots into android. there is almost no part of windows left running at all. It's basically like dual boot except that it switches from windows>android while windows is running.

i get what your saying and i think its a good idea
if any of you have used linux on the PC there is a program called WINE(http://www.winehq.org/) that runs windows apps within the linux os i gess you want something like this
if there was something like that i know i would use it

guys, do you even understand how winmo programs even work? -_-

Hey Splder ,
yes thats exactly what i am saying since there are already emulators for gba,gbc files(Gameboy) and even Psx(.iso) in hd2 so why not for .APK thats possible and i am working on it and i managed to install a basic apk but there were some errors

run WM in iphone, Android in PPC???

Is that possible to run WM in an iPhone.
Or run Android in a PPC?
I mean directly flash the ROM into iPhone or PPC.
Not like "running android on Kaiser"
Could anyone do this kind of "transplan"?
We should have a sub forum discuss about it, that make WM, and PPC more fun with it.
People are trying to make andriod to work in emulators on top of windows mobile first because they want it to be stable.
When everything is working stable, developers could look into flashing a andriod rom with andriod bootloader onto a device.
For now it is more important to get everything to work properly.
and about the iPhone.. we still dont know wether its fake or not.. its just a rurmor.. the developer promised it to be released by jan.. till then wait for jan..
i think WM on iphone is fake.............
there are very rare chances of that happenning.......
WM on iphone
there is WM on iphone, Norwegian developer did it,
http://5x5m.com/lp/277/windowsmobile.html
is it going to be freeware???????
i would seriously think about getting an i phone then........
Why would somebody want to have WM on a device which can't be used with stylus?
At the start, I knew that there was something fishy about it. Look at the phone, the bootloader is too "friendly" to be a beta.

yes, but it doesnt work very well
I think everybody should now, that there is a "working" androit for windows mobile based devices...
I'm definitely going to try it once its bootable as a seperate OS.
I'm sure the peeps at XDA are going to be successful in porting it on to ppc aswell, so I'm just patiently waiting.

There is already android on msm 7200 Chipsets like the Kaiser or Vouge
And it's not an Emulator and run on the ROM.
But you must load the Bootloader "HaRET" on Windows, and after that, Windows mobile is quitted
also, windows mobile is working on iphone wich lags realy
Say WM is flashed onto iPhone somehow. But as Parg said it can't be controlled by stylus. And there is no Dpad, then some application can not be used with that hardware.
Indeed, it makes much more sense to get a Diamond instead of trying to flash WM on iPhone.
Additional to the hardware troubles (stylus, unsupported multitouch, ...), there would be license troubles. Guess you don't want to pay MS for WM on iPhone, even if that was possible, right?
Android, or at least a compatible system, should be possible for every device (at least in theory). However, if I buyed a device including a WM license, I'd prefer a good emulator (or rather VM, similar to the J2ME VMs which allow to use Opera Mini). That way, both WM and Android programs would run fine. OK, bad chance to modifiy the main system interface (start menu + Today screen), but I like the plugin concept of the Today screen anyway...

iphone? whats that? wasnt it a fad fashion accessory from last year that claimed to be a tech revolution in, well, in, I dont know? lets see, its not a smart phone, not a PPC, not a Symbian, its more a feature phone containing a proprietary operating system with very limited 3rd party support apps and interface.
Why would such a great device want WM running on it? oh yeah I know, it sux and its boring UI would eventually drive you nuts for lack of customization and limitation of available "decent" apps! hahahahhahhahha It'll never run M2D or some of the other awesome skinnable applications or any Linux OS etc, Its just WacOSX and doesnt even provide onboard bluetooth with A2DP holly crap even my 5 year old piece of junk Symbian supports A2DP, in a few months WM devices will be released with Bluetooth v2.1 (700kbps) and soon version 3 speeds up to 480Mbps. carried away sorry

Dpad is not essential for PPC,
usually, apps can direct operate by touching the screen.
the only problem is games, a lot of games have to use dpad as controller.

iphone hardware is not a big problem,
as long as iphone is one device, no matter how many people are study on it, it is one device.
Android on PPC is a problem, there are so many different PPC, which one should we study on?
License is not necessary, Hacking, of course, is not legally with license.

can i install windows on htc hero instead of Android

HI,
is it possible to install windows in htc hero instead of android soft. I tried to search but couldnt find anything thanks

may i ask you why you want to do that???

there is even an easier way to get windows mobile OS: buy a WM Device!
Really a HTC Touch Diamond 2 has basically the exact same Hardware other than the touchscreen which is resistive.
Wanting to flash your android device with WM is as strange as the currently release WM Theme for android.
People are buying android devices to get rid of the old stuff (wm 6-6.5) why on earth would they want to install a WM Theme?!

Almost every people here is against windows mobile, so I don't think you will obtain an answer, sorry.
Lots of thread were started asking to run windows on these phones (sapphire and dream) and they always ended up wit people saying this is a stupid question.
My opinion is that it would be interesting, such as dual booting in your home PC.
I really wanted to get rid of wm because it stinks. it is slow i have to SR almost everyday it crashed etc. etc.
but now i'm using android my phone works great fast responsive. never needed to restart the phone and its on.
why trading the good stuff for the bad stuff. i used wM/Windows for years and i was never pleased with it now i'm using linux (on pc/hero) and its great IT WORKS so why would you wanna use wm.
youre question technically it would be possible the wm phones have the same hardware. but i think noone succeeded to install wm or viceversa. wm phones can start android but doens't work 100% and when the phone goes off they loose the data
Rather than just bashing WM (which of course I could do) I will state facts.
Android has been hacked to work on WM phones, such as the Vogue, Kaiser, Polaris, Raphael, Diamond, etc. This has been possible because Android is a UI that runs on top of Linux. Linux and Android both being open source, we have the program code for the entire OS at our disposal to change around, hack drivers, and make work on non-Android hardware.
Windows Mobile is (almost) entirely closed-source. This will make it pretty much impossible to run on a phone that it's not licensed to work on. Microsoft and HTC would have to both agree to running WM on the Hero before you'd see that happen.
EDIT: @commodoor: Yes, the hardware appears to be the same, ie. the same chips, but there will be intricate differences like memory addresses, IRQ's etc that would make this darn near impossible to achieve.
Just my tuppence worth...
I thought with the Hero having a capacitive screen that it wouldn't be able to run Windows... Thought the OS was limited to resistive screens... or am I wrong?

Nothing against the poster of the above but REALLY? Putting WM on the Hero seems like the most EPIC FAIL of all time. (I wish we had a facepalm smiley to put in here).
But constructively - from what I understand, putting Android on a WM device is relatively easy (for someone with the knowledge, patience and experience) but putting WM on an Android device is almost impossible.
Technically it would be possible to do... if HTC have drivers for WinMo to talk to the Hero hardware and Microsoft gave HTC a license to put it on the phone... but that ain't gonna happen any day soon.
But then again there exists a whole lot of skilled hackers that can make any toaster run whatever they want it to run... But then again WinMo is closed source. And the skilled hackers don't know how to make any drivers.
And WinMo is a really boring OS. I have an old HTC TyTN (the first one) with WinMo 6 Pro on it. It was really boring to use since the market for that phone was the business people and I am not a business-minded human. I wanted a little more flexibility and a nicer UI to configure the way I want it.
Android + HTC's Sense UI (actually TouchFLO) is giving me that kind of freedom.
Oh... sorry for going really offtopic on this one.
To give you the short answer to the original poster; no you can't. Theoretically yes. Feasible... no.
thread closed
people have given answers.....and ill close before a flame war starts.
thank you

[Q] Installing WM on HTC Desire HD

It might be a stupid thread and stupid question and I believe the ANSWER of it might be …… it will never happen.
BUT
Is it possible? Can it be?
I am not a good fan of Android as I had a lot of problem with Nexus one,
I have been using windows mobile since ages, my first was the IPAQ, Imate PDA2K, HTC cruse, Diamond, HD (BlackStone) and Nexus one < --- just to test Android
I might be wrong judging the Android but here are my notes:
- No X button to close the applications so they just keep running in the background
- No file browser
- It was hard to make it run the WMV and still not good
- I understand in the WM 6.5 no Transcriber and block recognizer, but I think it can be managed
- No today desktop to be customized as I like to see my task and calendar
- Office is not there the way you want
And many manay other issues
Well sorry for the (too much writing) but maybe I could get some help here or people might enlighten me
THX
Honestly I have no idea how to install Wm on that phone...and I would never want to if I were yu...but ur issues don't seem to lye with android...yu just need to do some market browsing because there is a program called advanced task killer that kills apps in the background..it also has a nifty little home widget...yu can also download astro file explorer to search files on ur phone...just like in wm ...there are apps and Widgets for all the issues yu stated...the best advice I can give tho is that if yu want a wm phone...then buy one...hold out for the hd7 and see if someone might trade yu for ur desire HD...hope I've helped..

Thanks for the answer and as I said I already knew it will not be possible, HD with WM7 is close to android, no today screen and it is almost Iphone, I might sound old fashion but I believe it is hard to change things you got used to
I am a Linux user too (Ubuntu Lucid) is what I am using, I believe I will give Desire HD a try and see, maybe I might be able to find a way to install WM on it maybe I give Android a better look and see what it has.

1. No, there is no "X" button, but Android's memory management is clever enough that you don't need one.
2. There are plenty of file browsers available on the Marketplace
3. I assume you mean .wmv videos? Not sure on this one.
4. Not sure about this
5. You can get all manner of widgets for Android that show calendars and you can get task managers etc.
6. No, office isn't perfect, but it's getting better.
If all of this is really a concern for you - why not just get an HD2? It's the same screen size and most of the same features (give or take megapixels, DLNA and a couple of bits and pieces here and there). At least then you can run WM6.5 as default and toy with the Android port which is developing really well in the meantime.
Don't want you to hate me guys BUT i did use the HD2, and here are my notes:
-Battery runs out fast
-don't like the new start menu
-no pen comes with it (i understand that all new HTC don't) i am OK with it, BUT it is not smooth the way you want in HD2.
well i am sorry to cause you headache guys i am really lost here and i do like HTC phones it is just cannot find the one that do serves me as my HD (blackstone) do
The only thing i would spare the HD (BlackStone) is its slowness.
I might consider desire HD and give it a try.
Here is what I am talking about
Type http: before //

@jmohik : So you wanna step back in time to WM6.1 ... if you dont like HD2 now... all the new phones (anytime soon now) are start gonna ship with WM7 .... as per your feedback and requirements, I believe you will ditch WM smartphones altogether
Btw...dont know what more do you want from a HD2 which is able to run a WM6.1, WM6.5, WM6.5.5, All Android Builds, and soon WM7 !
As far as battery, I get 1.5 days out of it .... dont expect more from such beasts...if you do, switch to Nokia
as i said ... i don't want you to hate me guys, and i said it is not easy to change things you got used to ....
well .... i will get the desire HD and i guess i will start on using it.
and BTW i also have a NOKIA E75
Thats the spirit !
It'd be far more interesting to know whether its possible to hack a WM7 rom onto the phone, seeing as the hardware looks identical to the HD7 that HTC are releasing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm Android all the way but theres no harm in experimenting!
I think you just need to spend 2-4 weeks with an Android phone running HTC Sense. I used to use a WM6.1 device, then WM6.5 and then moved to the HTC Hero which was on Android 1.5, and now 2.1. Since the first day I got the Hero, I have not looked back at WM. There really is no question about it.
I understand it all comes down to personal preference, but a Linux user like yourself should find Android easier to work with than those who don't use Linux.
As one of the other guys mentioned above, there are plenty of apps on the market you can get for free which do pretty much everything you say you want. The reason HTC don't provide a stylus these days is the screens are now capacitive not resistive, and better suited to fingers and thumbs. You can still get a stylus, but it would cost more.
P.S. I don't really have much love for the stock Android experience, as on the Nexus One... HTC Sense over the top of it is just amazing... in my opinion, but like I said, everyone has their own personal preference..!
i had an HD2 running wm6.53 and Android from the SD card. Dual booting serves no purpose BUT ITS GREAT!!!
I will get this device when its out as my HD2 died. I would love to be able to dual boot to WM7 just to give it a go.

Surely your HD2 is still within its 12 month warranty! I've had mine since it came out, that isn't even a year yet!
No one will put the time and effort in to port WP7 to an Android device, it just won't really be feasible given the amount of people who will actually want it.
Also, I can imagine it being a lot harder to go, given that WP7 is closed source, and Android is open source.

[POLL] WinMo vs Android

What do people prefer as their main phone, android or winmo with a cooked rom?
I will probably try out the new offering from Cotulla but I've been using Dutty's ROM's for ages and am wondering whether switching permanently offers any real advantages.
Cheers
EDIT: sorry guys about mixing up SD and RAM in the poll, but if you prefer you can make a note below!
I used winmo with a cooked rom. but I'd like to try android on SD card
You missed out "Android SD"
Android FTW
Winmo was nice coming from iPhone but no matter what cooked ROMS I'd try, it would still require a weekly Soft Reset and typing was a nightmare.
Have since flashed the DFT Android Rom using Magldr and will never go back. IMO you have nothing to lose and all to gain flashing or using an SD Card Android Build, besides if you miss Winmo you can always go back.

well before the powers that be shut this down as they do with anything they dont feel we simple folk can talk about, heres what i think
Firstly i cant vote, Like most people i either am at work or not, if im in work then i will use WM 6.5.3, its simply the best OS for my work, it does everything i need and more, it looks great and runs fast. If im not at work i use Android off the SD card, its fun and funky what it lacks in a business sense it makes up for on a social level.
Anyway i cant vote on your poll as you dont have the right option an you seem to have got a tad confused on what options are available to android too.
NAND (ie where WM is installed just now) and SD are the main runners, there is a project that lets you run some of the core OS files from RAM too.
Frankly though, i have absolutely no problems with the device running of SD, if it could run faster from NAND or RAM then the limiting factor would be myself but i cant move my fingers any quicker so what all the fuss with moving off SD is about i dont know.
Anyhow, i never thought id find the perfect phone that does everything but with android on SD and WM on NAND ive got it,
easy upgrades for android with no loss of data, upgrade WM and ROM with no loss of android, all my WM apps installed to SD as well so if worst came to worst all i need to do is make regular copies of my SD card and im sorted no hassle and all my needs forfilled
well i prefer windows by a long shot BUT i really did like typing with the android keyboard vs the windows one. the android one works very very well in my opinion.
I like both OS!!

Plz help and thanx in advance!!
I've been using an old KWBR rom for half a year now. It needs a soft reset every now and then, but besides that, it's been stable and great.
I've tried a couple Android builds on SD. They were also great, especially the kb and stability.
Everytime I came back to WinMO tho I found things to appreciate about it. I think HTC did a great job with Sense. The only problem I have is the SMS lag, but I can live with it.
The camera is great, album gallery, music gallery, everything. I think I'll probably stick to WinMO until it's time to buy a new phone.
Android NAND all the way!
I use both, but NAND from Today...
I was more than happy with a Winmo custom rom, I had no reset or freezes, but having tried Android there is no going back.
Not too sure about nand for UK HD2's, I keep running out of memory.
Still trying different builds and it's early days yet.
It reminds me of the Touch diamond trying to run Winmo 6.5, did it in the end without too much trouble.
junst find out that there are no good replacement for Active Sync to have all my Outlook from the laptop on the cell phone on Android or Symbian 3 (N8). So, after a quick love with Sony X10, Moto X720 and Nokia N8 (all great cameras but N8 is unbeliavable good) got back to my trusty HD2.
Definitely... android much better...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Wm is much better than android, when it comes to business. With Android you cant edit documents, browser takes more clicks to navigate, Hotmail email account does not sync all folders ( only inbox folder synced ).
Only advantage of Android is Flash support, other than that not very usable.
But it's fun, anyway people who need to play games or check how fast their phone is, Android id the choice. For anything else - WM .
BTW, I had android Drkstone installed on cd for a week or so, often switched between WM and android, and anytime I did so, my initial thought was, what the hell I put this android on my cd card for?
Finally removed android, because found it not very usable for business. If WP7 port becomes available for HD2 I may consider leaving WM 6.5. But for now it is still the best mobile OS.
I used Dutty's rom and android on SD card.I have test NandDroid, but switch back to use Winmo with SDdroid.

Nope you dont need to reformat your SD, pull it out if you have any doubt, just really realy make sure you read the threads before updating, 9 times out of 10 it will work fine but if you read through it all first an it goes tits up, it will save you some flapping time if you know what to do!
i have not tried the NAND version.i am sure its good.i have been using daily mdj revolution hd sd version.and very happy with it.and gives a choice of using winmo time to time.work colleague of mine has wp7 on the contract.and he was showing of the phone at the work place.and told me that my phone was out of date.so i quickly change to winmo then to android.after that i couldnt get my phone back all day so definitely sd version for me.it gives me more power over the WP7 and HTC DESIRE HD or any other android phones.dual boot capability is very cool.
Tested nand Android, didn't really see any real advantages vs SD (well maybe a bit less power consumption), instead - for now some issues, regarding space, have to mess with apps installing in main memory, so moved back to good old WM 6.5 kwbr. Besides [RAM] Android is much smoother. Also I really like the WM sense.

WM on an Android tablet?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but is it possible to run WM on an Android tablet?
At the moment I have an HTC HD2 running WM and use a load of Apps that would great on a bigger screen, EBook reader etc the problem is they are WM only.
I know nothing about Android beyond that I can get a cheap one on eBay that would do all I want if I could get WM 5+ on it.
Is this possible?
Many thanks
I'm not sure about the whole running on a tablet thing (though it's a nice idea), but one thing I have learnt, is that a lot of WM software don't do any checks on display size. My phone is WQVGA (240x400), and very few things actually use the screen correctly (mainly graphical ones such as emulators and games. ScummVM works nicely though)
my "answer" is just: WTF??? WM on a tablet....instead of android...?
and my advice is to try android a bit and you will find it very intuitive and handy and you will never wish to go back to WM
TBH I have not had the chance to play around with Android so that is good advice.
The problem is that some of the apps I need are WM only and do not look like will get an Android or WM7 update.

there is pretty much a replacement for every app
i only didn't find replacement for SMath studio...which is a very powerful math application
since you have HD2 go to hd2 android section and try out SD card roms (not NAND roms since you will have to delete WM) and play a bit with the android SD rom and see if it suits you
EDIT: here you go, you can find and learn everything over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735
ok, i have the same question.
is there anyone out there who could give an answer?
i am a big fan of WM (have a htc touch pro) and not a big fan of my mid-tablet with android 2.1
the point ist - until android is ready to connect to ad-hoc wlan it is just *****.
so i would love to change the OS from Android to WM...
Doubt will ever be possible.
His bit a windows powered tablet.
