Anyone have a download of them? Just flashed a new rom and my 3G shows up as H on the taskbar. Anyone have a link to the originals? Not a big deal, but it'd be appreciated.

That H is for HSDPA, the higher-spec 3G (i.e. it indicates you're getting a theoretically faster connection right then)...you don't want to see that?
Ahhh really? Well, I checked the rom, and it seems like the H has just replaced the 3G icon all together. So, I'm either E (EDGE), or G, or H. For some reason, it's driving me crazy If anyone has a download, please post it.
Nevermind, I was wrong. I just got a 3G icon on there, walked a bit, and it jumped to H. You were right This can be locked, or whatever.
You can disable HSDPA icon with Advanced config (Data Connections), this way it always shows 3G. I do this because it's always referred to as 3G with Tmo USA.

Hi all
I have a ?
I have a Tytn, WM6 XDA Live v0.20 from kyphur, HSDPA enabled and of course I have an HSDPA "abo" from T-Mobile.
My problem is as follow: I know from a collegue of mine that with this image, the H icon is enabled and that it's supposed to come up when you are actually on HSDPA. However I NEVER saw this icon witch to me means I never really was on HSDPA speed. I always have the 3G Icon.
Can someone confirm that you don't have to actually see the H icon to be using the HSDPA, that 3G is enough.
I'm curious.or maybe I missed something somewhere LOL.
Thnx in advance
Hehehe,
when you are in a area that has HSDPA, then you see 3G on your screen.
But don't forget to enable it with HTweakC.
Start --> Programs.
How long are u using internet, that u don't know 3G means fast internet and just G means slow internet. With T-Mobile it's standard.
If you read my post carefully you see that I know I have 3G and fast internet (I think I know a bit about internet hehe) BUT what I want to see is the H from HSDPA.This I never saw and I think that I'm suppose to see it. aren't I?
Hi I'm on t-mobile in the UK and I don't get the H either, I think it's a t-mobile thing. However, I know that I get high speed, I just don't get the icon.
Same here, (see my sig, definatly HSDPA speeds) i get HSDPA on O2 here and I NEVER see the H symbol (applied the patch and the reg entry IS present).
Im currently looking for the program (not sure what it is called) that returns the status of the HSDPA settings and etc... to see if you are TRUELY attached to a HSDPA network. Will report back when ive found it...
..EDIT! :: Found the program, it is the fieldtest program in the wiki pages
EDIT2::
Quick update people, i ran a speedtest on bandwidthplace from my TyTN, i got around 597kbps, checking the status on fieldtest shows i am NOT connected to HSDPA. Then again i ran it and got 1.1mbps....checked fieldtest and i am still NOT on HSDPA?!?!?!
From what ive read UMTS is usually around the 384kbps mark???? WHHHAAAATT is O2 doing ?? /me is intrigued!
597kbps mrvanx, that's what I get as well. That's why I know I'm on H as wel.Ha wel no icon is ok, it would have just made my day to just see it at least once LOL.
i been working two days to finally get the internet to work on my phone and all i had to do was use the stylus to push the button under the cover. but now that i have a working internet for some strange reason, im not getting the H sign anymore, the best ill get is 3g. is there anything i can do to get it back?
the only thing i can think of is that i changed sim cards at att thinking it would fix the problem but it didnt until i did the reset. the sim cards are the same except the old one (iphone) is blue and the new one is yellow?
anyone know what i can do?
I don't know if my answer will help you, but sometimes i don't have the 3g icon and my 3g is working perfectly. Sometimes the icon is not showing the truth. Did you try your HSDPA or did you just see that the icon is missing wiothout trying it.
i would get the H sign in my house and i went to the city today after everything started working and i wouldnt get more than 3g, now im back home and im just getting E barely 3g. i dont get it?

Ok, did u actually try to use HSDPA regardless of the icon? If u did and it didn't work, well, i guess it is a problem with the coverage of your operator or something.
I am on O2 in the UK and i get the H icon and if the HSDPA reception is not that good it switches back to G, however i have never seen the 3G icon appear which is very strange!

You'll have to either disable HSDPA (Settings>Connections>Advanced Network) or go to an area with 3G but no HSDPA!

As HSDPA is nothing more than faster 3g, most likely the cells in your area have all been upgraded.

AT&T does not really like for your phones to show the difference between the arrays that are at 1.8, 3.6 and 7.2.
They'd rather disguise it if at all possible.
You might have defaulted some settings that you or somebody else had changed, which settings you're unaware of. For example, your default setting might be to not use or recognise the 7.2 arrays, since there are very few of them anyway.
What I'd suggest is to run a few tests at dslreports.com/mspeed to see exactly what speeds you're getting when your phone is showing 3G. If your results approximate those of other people at the same location, I really wouldn't worry about whether your phone is showing 3G or H.
Just because you're not showing H doesn't mean that you're just on UMTS.
the G sign stands for gprs. thats what i get as im not in a 3g area
DOWNLOAD SPEEDS:
Icon "G" = GPRS (2.5G) = 171.2 kbps max
Icon "3G" = WCDMA (3G) = 384 kbps 512 kbps 2024 kbps
Icon "H" = HSDPA (3.5G) = 1800 kbps 3600 kbps 7200 kbps 14400 kbps
Don't blame your phone
He is only displaying what your operator beams...
im getting speeds of like 1100 kb/sec.
im so mad because i finally get my internet to work and NOW im not gettin HSDPA.
could it be that i got a different sim card from ATT?
I am using the same SIM card I used with my old EDGE phone
No need to change SIM unless your carrier forces you to do so
but im saying i think i was getting HSDPA on my other sim card and not on this one, i dunno why.
I know it has been discussed in other threads that the H builds will display an H for hspda, but has anyone else lost data connectivity when moving into a hspda area? Maybe it is just a coincidence but it doesn't seem to allow me use data features when I am using the hspda network. Has anyone else experienced this or am I just nuts? I am using 6.0r1, in the Phoenix area. Thanks!
I'm going to go with.. You're nuts..
My phone is mostly in "H" area, in las vegas, nv and it seems to work faster and better. No data features lost. I'm also using H6.0r1
I'm almost positive all it is, is an PNG difference. They just changed the meter to say H instead of 3G. That being said, how do we change it back? Anyone know the location of the files?

you're right, i don't know anything about the files.
lol.
I'm kind of confused. After flashing cyan's rom, my service keeps switching between 3g and H. This has not happened prior to me flashing the rom though. What is H? Is it a fixable problem?
Could be wrong, but it's probably H for HSDPA
Oooh its actually a bonus for me at least, since before, my Nexus showed 3G whther it was connected to the faster HSDPA or to 3G (Unlike my Hero, which showed H or 3G)
will have to give CM Rom a go once my Nexus arrives back from HTC
Dayz
Cyanogen's ROM enabled the notification if you are on HSPA network. I beleive you will get 3G if your network changes to UMTS (depends on your location). The stock ROM shows 3G even if you are on the HSPA network.
Ohhhh alright. I understand then. It still bugs me though lol
Yes i can verify this is the case, reason why i jumped ship to cynogens rom

since by default the phone is after the fastest avail option, it tries to get to 3G. if and when you are in the area with uncertain 3G coverage, it could scan and switch to 3G, then to HSDPA (hence - H) or even EDGE (E)
I have this mess on the stock N1 - 3G-H-E changing constantly in some areas.
bad thing is that in such case my data stalls:-( I guess it has nada to do with Cyan's ROM. fwiw
No he must have done something, normally Nexus only shows 3G even if there's HSDPA.
I have HSDPA and here with Stock ROM it only shows 3G, but you can see in the Settings at Status that you've got HSDPA.

Actually, HSDPA is faster than "3G" (which I'm assuming is actually UMTS), so your phone will use HSDPA whenever it can, then downgrade to 3G if HSDPA isn't available, then EDGE, then GPRS. HSDPA is actually considered "3.5G, 3G+ or turbo 3G" according to its Wikipedia entry.

He did do something. Someone already asked him on Twitter and he answered here.
This reminds me of my times with Windows Mobile where you'd change a registry setting to make the indicator show you had an EDGE connection instead of always showing G (for GPRS)
Quite nice, I was missing this on Nexus

did you even read what I wrote? The stock ROM has the H icon but for some reason its disabled so that only the 3G icon shows up if you have HSPA. Cyanogen simply enabled the H icon to be usable.
I wonder why though, they would disable it...
I cant think of any solid reasons, and if it is in-fact better then "3G", You would think they would want people to know that they have a faster connection present..
but anyways, thanks cyanogen

Given the confusion in this thread alone, which is presumably made up of people who know more about their phones than the general public, I think it's reasonably obvious why it's disabled. The phone companies have spent lots of money and time marketing "3G" to the public - most people will know what you're talking about if you say 3G, almost none of them will know what HSDPA is, and I doubt the cell phone company wants to spend the time to explain that it's actually better than standard 3G to every customer. It's just that much easier to make it say "3G" and be done with it.
ISTR that my Hero and Touch Diamond2 before that, and Touch Cruise before that, all showed a 3G symbol on hsdpa until you were actually downloading something - then it changed to show a H before returning to a 3G when stopped downloading.
I think!

My Post was regarding this, it can't be that has H in display with stock ROM
So, this 'H' HSDPA signal display should be a fix in the OTA update?
Is there a possibility that someone answer here and explain how to enable H icon showing?
I think it's in framework-res.apk but don't know where exactly...
I don't want to install a cyanogenmod rom or others to have it. Who have already done it, could share that information with us...this is a forum..
+1
I want to enable the H icon on the stock ROM.
Rooted phone, custom recovery, locked bootloader.
Is this possible?

I'm not able to decompile framework-res.apk to source...i've done some tries but with apktool that's not possible...
It is not sufficient open it with winrar or similar because config.xml is in the core....
I live in Bryan TX, about 75miles from Houston and as far as i know there is no HSDPA in my city yet. But i was just trying the Android build last night and it showed the H symbol for a bit. After that i never saw the H symbol, not in winMo, not in android. So was it just android reporting wrong information or was t-mobile actually testing HSDPA equipment at that time(highly unlikely but i wish they were).
Did anyone else experience android showing H even if you were not in HSDPA location?

Your proximity to A&M can cause all sorts of unexplained weirdness
lol seriously though, I understand that not only does Houston itself have HSPA+ now (it was in the first wave, Austin gets it next week), but also a large part of the surrounding area (mostly in your direction, and out towards the gulf too) are getting regular HSDPA very soon.
Note that on a stock winmo ROM you won't see an "H" in your taskbar, even if you have that type of connection...it won't display unless you're using a custom icon set (the default one is suppressed by the carrier)

Well....i see your location and i'm not surprised by your answer...and i do study at A&M.....but anyways...thanks for the response, will try installing a set of custom icons and try it out......but considering the speeds i get i dont think its HSDPA+....they dont even touch 1mbps.

Yeah I'm sure it's not HSDPA+ all the way up to you yet, I think they're just getting the 3G to regular HSDPA standards in the surrounding areas like yours.
Also note that even if you see an "H" in the display there, it only really means that you have a better connection with the tower, the backend elements to give you the real speed increase may or may not be in place TO that tower yet.
(to be honest with you, I couldn't really care less about the UT/A&M rivalry...I'm not from here. I just know I might get run out of town if I missed an opportunity to fire a shot like that lol)

Depeding on the Developer of the rom. Sometime they use the "H" just to show there is active data.
For example im in Madison TN and we have 3G but dont have H yet. On my phone though, using the Energy Series rom, my phone idles with a 3G but if I load a web page or trigger some kind of data activity, the 3G will turn to H and back to 3G when the data activity is done. Same with some Android Roms, they change to H for data activity and back to 3G when the phone is idle.
I mite not be 100% accurate on that but I think thats how it works on the custom roms.
On a stock rom instead of 3G idle youll see H all day if you had hsdpa in your area.

thanks for the response, I guess you might be right there, but I'm not sure stock ROMs show the H icon, because i was in Houston last week, in the middle of downtown and my phone still showed 3G.
Staying on a similar subject can someone help me out with adding the H icon to the stock ROM, I do not want to add a custom taskbar, just looking for some reg edit, where it will show a simple H icon instead of the 3G icon when i'm in HSPA+ coverage.
