Tmobile G1...

I've been doing a lot of research, and reading on the G1 forum, but i was just curious what you guys thought about the new Tmobile G1. It looks like a really slick phone and I'm seriously thinking about ordering it.

I know a lot of people will post the "its awesome" pitch.... but honestly
pros: extremely powerful hardware with a very stable operating system.
cons: the operating system is very new... meaning that there is no real software or rom development out there for it.... meaning no customization. (and currently no real games at all!!!! lol)
conclusion: im happy enough with my wing that i PERSONALLY will stick with it for a while (especially with ttrans new 7.4 rom - great performance and plenty of space).... as soon as some real progress is made in development for android i will buy a G1

I pre-ordered mine 2 hours ago and can't wait to get mine on November 10th.
I have the Wing and love it but I'm the type of person that gets bored really fast. So G1 here I come!

Well if your that type of person then you will only be entertained by the G1 for about a week... i've been doing some reseach on it and most of the reviews say that its pretty basic and needs work by developers! the only reason i would get one is the fact that it has the hardware to support 3G..but my location wont have it till next year so im happy with my wing!!

i personally love my wing
i can see my self upgrading to the touch pro instead of the g1
i ilke the innovative look the the g1 but if i get some hand on with it i can see which phone i will go to
i have had a lot of hands on with the touch diamond so i can fix a lot of the issues with the touch pro if i get it

Look, I loved my Wing when I had it too. But any one who thinks the G1 won't blow the Wing out of the water is ridiculously stupid. And I don't say that to offend any one either. Do some research. Look at what the phone can do and what they phone will do in the future. People can make applications. That right there says a bunch. Imagine the kind of **** we'll be able to use. Android may be new, but it's gotten great reviews. As time goes on, it will only get better for the G1 and its users. There's a reason they've sold over 1.5 million pre-orders for the G1. Stick with Windows Mobile if you want, lol.

i think i will i do want to try the g1 but i dont like how limited the 3g coverage is but it does look like a good phone

I just wish I had one so I could actually spend time with it. The fact that it's more or less open source, means there will be a ton of programs and applications once there is time to make them. I think I'll hold off for a bit, but 179 is ridiculously cheap compared to the wing, and has the hardware to smoke, but for the time being, I think I'll just keep moddin my wing and do some more research.

i believe the g1 will b a wonderful fone but wing is an excellent fone.u guys are jumping to the g1 not knowing wat ur getting into ill wait to get one 2nd hand.just my two cents

Nah, I'm going to wait and do more research and see what programs, roms, and games become available. I think I'll stick with the wing for now, and just mod and flash roms every other week! lol. But, the G1 is only 179 so thats a huge price drop. Either way, I really can't wait to see what becomes available for the G1.

what would be great would be a g1 wm6 port - with fully functional drivers..... i know everyone is talking about getting android on their phone, but just think for a second how nice it would be to get a nice new extremely fast phone for 170 odd dollars and continue using all the software you are familiar with.... and then as soon as application development and customization become mainsteam for android you could always flash back. i know its too much to wish for because of the lack of drivers, but it would be great for me if it ended up happening

You know, that would be PERFECT. I'm really not that familiar with the Android o.s., but if they could incorporate it into WM6, then it would be hands down the winner. We could use everything we already use to load applications, etc. Since it's supposed to be open source, maybe somebody will figure out how to do it?!?

G1 vs Wing
This month in PC Magazine (October 2008) Sascha Sagan, the director of new product reviews, said this,"never buy a product in the first few weeks after it comes out. Wait a month. By then... you will be able to tell if something is really worth a buy".

G1 will eventually be better than the wing, just not now. There's alot of holes that need patching up in the os to make it a real competitor to wm. When u compare Android right now to say ttran otp 7.x, Android isn't even in the same league. But give it some time, and maybe Android 2.0, then u'll really start seeing what G1 can do.
Also, this will be a fun phone in regards to xda's developing and hacking community and also to us, the end-user. As people start accessing and examing the innards of Android, who knows what juicy things can be created and imagined. Only issue i see is the stuff they left out, but the os seems to be solid with no real problems experienced. Messaging needs work, with mms being the main problem (can't send gifs or video).

Yeah I agree. Seeing how this phone is really meant to be modified, I can't even imagine the amount of software, roms, mods, etc there will be for this phone. I do think it will take some time, so I believe I will hold off, but I'm pretty excited about it.

that is exactly what i want. i just want to keep useing windows mobile. it has been around for ever (ce). hopefully someone in the linux community will figure out how to flash it to what ever you want.

I am a G1/Wing owner. I got my G1 2 days ago and i can tell you, i am very happy with the phone so far. I do miss using TTran's OPT and hope they port TouchFlo2D to Android. The Manilla Theme is the best i've seen!
I am also one of those people that would much rather run Linux on my PCs at home, but don't because i am in the IT field so i need to stay current on Windows. Anyhow, I understand people wanting to wait and recommend most do that. I am not usually the type to jump on a product at Version 1 until some updates and public testing has been done. But i am looking forward to Android's growing pains!

I just upgraded to a G1. What I did was, when the G1 presale was announced, I called to say I was going to cancel my service soon and asked what they would offer to keep me. The CS rep asked what I had in mind. I said I wanted the to see if there was a way to get the G1 with 1 a year contract. The CS rep told me not until after the actual launch but she would lower my unlimited family text messaging to $9.99 permanently if I would wait until the launch to decide. I agreed. So today, I called back for the G1. They offered me the G1 for $179 + NO $18 upgrade fee if I agreed to keep my four lines for 1 year. So, that's what I did. I wasn't going to cancel anyway because, it's hard top beat T-Mo's rates, even if the coverage is a little weaker than other carriers in my area. My Wing will likely be up for sale after I evaluate the G1.
Update:
I just canceled my order. I don't want to put $800 on the line to save $300.

G1 vs iPhone 3GS

I have been a loyal T-mobile customer since 2003, so when I had to move to Iowa, I tried really hard to live with the local roaming partner and my G1. After many problems with my service and signal strength at home, I decided to move on. I want to give T-mobile credit here, because I had 15 months left on my contract and they waived the ETF. Thanks to them and here is a rare story for everyone of some good customer service reguarding ETFs. I travel out of the country a few times a year, so I wanted a GSM phone that I could take with me. In my area, that really only left me with the roaming partner I had been frustrated with, (Iowa Wireless) and AT&T. Timing was just right, so I went ahead and bought 2 3GS iPhones for my wife and I. I did get my G1's unlocked and they are for sell if anyone's interested, (one rooted, one stock, both black, one has a small ding from a drop, the other's perfect, make an offer) but I've always wanted to try an iPhone out for myself and this just worked out well for us. I love Android, the open-ness of it, the customization possible and the general ability to tinker and hack it is very appealing to me. That being said, the 3GS is a great phone. The video recording is the best on any phone I've ever used or seen firsthand. I'm sure some of the unlocked HTC or Nokia phones that cost 400, 500 or 800 bucks can match or beat it. But for a subsidized US carried phone I am impressed. Also, the anti-fingerpring oleophobic (probably spelled that wrong) coating is amazing. A friend stopped by with a 3G iPhone and the difference was amazing. Also the speed difference is very very noticable. People here bash some ROM's for being too slow or not "snappy" enough compared to others. The difference between a 3G and te 3GS is way more than any difference I experienced with the roms I tried on my G1. I know this is a HTC dream forum, but as a big Android fan, I wanted to share my experience with the switch. Now after the HTC Hero comes out, among many other different versions of Android phones, I'd place my bets on them. For now, however, the new iPhone is hard to beat in my opinion.
Also, I have not posted very many times as I rarely have any useful input that hasn't already been shared, but I have used this forum so much for the last year. Thanks to everyone who contributes here. Without XDA the G1 and Android wouldn't be near the phone and platform they are.

ive got a g1 and a iphone 2g. i like both of them a lot but even the iphone 2g is a better and faster phone than tha g1

The reason I liked my G1 is totally different than why I like my iphone. Honestly, my G1 was almost a hobby by itself. This started when I got my old Nokia 5300 and started tinkering with it. Then I got a T-mobile Shadow / HTC Juno. Windows Mobile is kind of a pain in the ass, but there's no questioning all the capabilities you can get on your phone if you're patient enough. With Android it was all about what can my phone do next? With the iphone its, damn, this phone actually made my day easier and more enjoyable. So far I use my iphone's capabilites more than I did the G1.

I guess in this sense its arguable that the iPhone's reliability factor beats the G1. However, I think if we all dropped the custom ROMs and Apps2SD we might be able to gain that reliability factor the iPhone has through the stock ROMs. I don't see many people flashing custom ROMs onto iPhones now ;D

True, we are all blazing ahead with custom G1 roms that aren't as clean or ultimately reliable as the OEM's (although once again the custom roms are a huge part of why I think we all love android). I never really had a problem with reliability on my G1. I kept a copy of a ROM I knew worked well at all times on my sd card and only had to use it once when apps2sd went a little haywire one day. I just don't feel the need to modify the iphone as much as I did with the G1. The one thing I wasn't looking foward to was giving up the G1's actual keyboard. This has proven to be easier than I thought it would be. I can type pretty fast on the iphone. Not as quick or error free as my G1, but it's getting easier and hasn't been the stubling block I thouth it would be. I am a huge google user though and I miss the close connectivity the G1 had more than anything so far.

The big thing is that the G1 LETS us modify it, the iPhone... does not.

g1 has potential to be great but is hindered by internal specifications by the devices in which their released with. as soon as there is a phone with the same internal specs as the iphone whatever generation it may be then we will see android pure potential.

i think thats called the HTC Hero

never had the I phone, but i had many clones and many touch phones in the last 2 years and have many friends with the i phone 3g 3gs and there sorry as in the look and fell they are a nice device. as in speed pssst. my G1 smoked any i phone on 3g with stocked webkit and there browser and on wifi they where still lodading java pics and i was all ready browsing face book. and now with the rooting vs pawing or what ever it is that u do to unlock the i phone remember the first unlocked i phone had to be cracked open and rewired. the first g1 was a change in a bash file directory lol. The i phone is the jessus phone dont get me wrong but the g1 and android are the gods that every person prays to when there phone is stolen broken or lost.

Not really, the htc hero is identical to the dream except for double the flash/ram and it doesn't have a keyboard. Junk in my opinion.
The Sony X2 looks interesting though, assuming that it'll be possible to root/customize it and ditch their goofy UI.

Tmobile advice needed please

Im thinking of getting the My touch from Tmobile. I have the TP2 but dont care much for it. I have done some reading here, but would like to get some advice from My Touch owners. Last question, is the Hero Roms working good?

as far as using it on the mt? honestly im disappointed with it i never use the touchflo (which is the sense ui look) but i like the htc features so i just use those... sprint will have the real hero coming out this month if you want it that bad but if you dont care about speed and dont mind waiting at least a minute every time you hit the home key for it to load then go for it but its just too slow for me
**i must say i love the size of the mt3g its way slimmer than the tp2 and g1 which was a hugh plus for me and reason i still use it

The MyTouch is fantastic. I have a G1 as a spare for development and testing. However, there will always be a growing trend with "the next best thing."
Keep in mind, there's a lot of this year LEFT to go. Keep your options open...open-source that is! HA!

He makes a valid point as well.
It just depends on what you can afford for the various data packages offered by the carriers.
My preference being: T-Mobile USA!
Fantastic service, loyal to them for almost 8 years now. Nothing but positive experiences with them.
Like I said though...the MyTouch is nice, but hold off...it could be worth it.

I am using a mytouch and love it. This is my first android phone and I don't think I will ever go back to windows mobile. These phones are more versatile and the interface is whatever you want it to be.
I don't use a hero ROM on it because I have heard too much about it being slow. I will wait for the optimized version to show up before trying that.
I was going to get the TP2 but the cost put me off. I am glad it was too expensive now. Showing off this phone to people at work has made 3 other people get an android phone.

I Dont know that holding off will do you any good.. I have seen the specs for the other droid phone that tmo us is supposed to get this year (well all of whats available) and honestly the mt3g is I think still the best one (assumeing you want a non keyboard slim phone)..
I know there is supposed to be some lower end ones coming out, but if you have the TP2 now I am guessing that doesn't really interest you..

Plus the Incredible is hands down better than the nexus, and thats just on paper!!! wait till it in our hands!!! lol I have a ROOTED Droid Eris (selling to help compensate for incredible) thats a month old, a ROOTED and OvrClocked Moto Droid thats a week old, and I already have pre-ordered a shiny new HTC Incredible (soon to be rooted lol).

the droid is not hands down better then the nexous one
they are the same phones same processors and almost same everything
the droid has a better camera and more ram

my nexous one is faster but its rooted

3 new phones in a month? Wow. Can your reverse the root on the Eris and Droid and return them? I thought people had 30 days to evaluate and return.

Well for one. It has better touch sensor technology, 8gig of internal memory for music/media/whatever/, actually can get reception? The noise cancel tech isn't really important and doesn't always work flawlessly. Just the better touch senor and reception make it FAR superior to the nexus one. Plus it has an Fm modulator and an 8mp cam that apparently takes great pics and video soo,

The Nexus One is JUNK.
Between the crap screen, crap touch sensor, crap network (mine was tmo), there's no arguing that the Incredible is better.
And check this out. You're probably unfamiliar with the concept, so I'll help drop some knowledge on you....

Im going to throw this out there for you....
Nexus one is far from junk.
I have it and I am on Tmo, I have excellent reception, the screen is loads better than many phones, and my touch screen works fine.
My Co-worker just got the incredible under my advisement when it became clear that verizon was passing on the nexus. I have played with it and put swype and the 3d gallery on it for her. It is a nice phone, sure it has some upgrades compared to the nexus but is is far from an "OMG this phone pwns" type of a situation.
As far as the firmware issue...not everyone wants to void their warranty and put custom firmware on their device, some people just want a legit OTA update in a timely fashion...me I always void warranties.
Different opinions are fine, but you dont have to be a closed minded douche about it.

I agree with Mike the N1 is not junk. I made the switch from the N1 to the Incredible. While I freaking love the Incredible (especially the fact that the touchscreen isn't laggy/glitchy) and have found it to be markedly more polished, I will always regard my N1 fondly. It was so nice knowing that root access was waiting for me before my device even arrived (it may be a while before this happens with the Incredible), and the level of customization available for the N1 made it a blast to play with (and made it fast as hell too). What I don't understand is why people get so pissy in these threads. I mean c'mon, we are only dealing with phones here. I would hate to see how some of these folks react in situations that actually matter

Ok but seriously, i'm on verizon, have had the vogue, hated WINMO, switched to blackberry pearl flip, which was nice to me, except locked gps, then found this awesome site, unlocked my vogue, put a 6.5 rom on it (thanks nfsfan) tried most of the android distros, and realized that a phone pumping some power paired up with android is the way to go. Ordered my incredible online, it arrived friday, waiting on me when i got home from work, and haven't looked back. I don't have direct comparison to a N1 or Eris, or any other android phone for that matter, but it is AWE-SOME..... Screen is brilliant, connectivity is easy, feels good in the hands... i also work for a company that sells sprint, so i will get to do a side by side with the EVO that is supposed to conquer anything else that is currently out. we'll see....

My Co-worker just got the incredible under my advisement when it became clear that verizon was passing on the nexus. I have played with it and put swype and the 3d gallery on it for her. It is a nice phone, sure it has some upgrades compared to the nexus but is is far from an "OMG this phone pwns" type of a situation.
As far as the firmware issue...not everyone wants to void their warranty and put custom firmware on their device, some people just want a legit OTA update in a timely fashion...me I always void warranties.
Different opinions are fine, but you dont have to be a closed minded douche about it.

Uh, are you familiar with the touch controller's tracking issues? And that's not even to mention the 3g issues. Screens spontaneously cracking? N1 has issues.
As far as people wanting to keep their phones stock... To each their own for sure on that one.
However if you're one of those people, why would you even be here?
The point was that the Incredible wouldn't get Froyo for "several months" after the N1 does. That's a BS statement and I called him on it. If that makes me a ****, I'll take the hit.

Personally the N1 seems like a better phone because I don't have to deal with the bugs. But thats only because I don't own one of them yet.

First off, the touchscreen issue is a combo of software and crap buildup on the screen, once I took care of those issues it hasnt happened again.
Like I said I have no issues with 3g.
A few random people out of a couple hundred thousand phones does not make the screen cracking a real issue, more than likely a user problem...though I am not placing blame just stating a very real possibility.
If you know what this site is like then you must know that many people come here for things other than custom firmware, from apps to Q&A, this site has more to offer than custom firmware.
And as for his original statement on froyo, he is probably right in that the nexus will get an OFFICIAL upgrade before the other phones.

Congratulations on not having the 3g issues like thousands of other people have had. Maybe it's because you're not a ****? Or maybe your N1 is magical? Or maybe you're just in denial about it?
At any rate, I don't believe your touchscreen issues were resolved with a kleenex. Many believe it's due to the actual controller in the phone. Maybe it could be fixed with software, maybe not. Either way nothing's been done about it to this point, so the issue still exists. But since we've established your N1 may be magical, you may not have these issues.
As far as an OFFICIAL SUPER DOPE FROYO RELEASE.

In terms of a Development Community the Nexus is the way to go(CyanogenMod, need i say more?).
But as far as a 'features' comparison goes the Incredible wins.
Also as far as a reliable network outside of major metro areas Verizon owns T-Mobile.
When the Incredible has root user access and superuser permissions enabled there will be less that separates the two assuming Sense is able to be removed and native 2.2 is able to be installed on the Incredible.
As a Verizon customer who wants reliable coverage, I had to go with the Incredible. If we all wait for the 'next best phone' well we would never buy a phone b/c that happens monthly. Let's do out best to support the developers and not piss off the Nexus one developers too much because if we are nice and supportive maybe they will work to enable the features that the Nexus One has with root access to our Incredibles, cyanogenmod included.

Look, I really wish this didnt have to spiral into childish bull. The whole point was you were acting like an **** before, and then you continue to act like an ****. Just GROW UP!! My phone is not magical it is just the fact that NOT EVERYONE HAS THOSE ISSUES.
Do some damn reading, capacitive touchscreens can be affected by conductive buildup on the screen...like greasy fingerprints and sweat, so yeah I have CM installed and I keep my screen clean and I have not had the issue again. How can it be the controller when that same controller is used in many other devices.
And once again, just because many people do have 3g issues doesnt mean everyone does. I have a constant 3g connection and have no issues, no magic involved.
And your last ridiculously stupid comment about running stock froyo...what is wrong with people possibly wanting to stick to a stock OS...that was not the original argument, the original argument was who was going to get an official update first, not weather stock is better than custom.
The problem with your arguments is that you are using an all or nothing logic, if some people have an issue it means everyone has that issue...regardless of what they tell you. You just make some nonsensical statements about their phone being magical, and some weak attempts at witty put downs.

Why haven't there been a rash of complaints about touchscreen inaccuracy on any other android phone (at least not to the extent of the problems with the N1)? Oh wait, I know! N1 users must have greasier fingers than the average users of other android phones, right?
Wipe the screen? That's your fix? Seriously? I've used touchscreen phones for about 5 years now:
2 treos, 2 iphones, 3 android phones.
The ONLY touchscreen I've ever had ANY issues with is my N1. To be fair, the treos obviously weren't capacative, but still.
My argument isn't an all or nothing argument. Heck, I never even said the Incredible 'totally pwns' the N1. My only point is that the N1 had way too many bugs when it was first released. My opinion is that for the cost of the phone, some of the parts are a bit questionable.
And again, when it comes to Froyo, don't roll up on what's probably the largest android custom rom development site bragging about how the Incredible isn't going to get an OFFICIAL Froyo update until way after the N1. Because the 99% of us that are here are using custom roms (yourself included) and we just don't give a ****. Again, deal with it.
Thepoint in saying what he did about Froyo was basically 'HAHA THE N1 IS GONNA HAVE FROYO AND ALL OF ITS DOPE FEATURES MONTHS BEFORE YOUR INCREDIBLE WILL'. Again, it's simply not true and we all know it.

Ok so you have used touchscreen phones for years...I am an electronics technician and an embedded systems programmer...but go ahead and tell me, because you know better, that a dirty capacitive screen, along with a sensor gain turned up too high in software cant cause the exact issues. I mean a bunch of people admitted that the problem went away after they changed firmware.
As far as the N1 having too many bugs, didnt the incredible already get an OTA because of a few major bugs.
And once again your lack of logic shows....the froyo thing....I will say it again, it doesnt matter how many people come here for custom firmware, most does not equal all so stop saying that just because many of the people here use CF, that is all everyone here uses. The point is still valid, the N1 will probably get an OFFICIAL update first. That word I used, official, is a qualifier...that means the argument I am making is based on that point being true.

Word. Your theory could hold water. However, I'm a Linux Sys Engineer going on about 10 years now, so I do know a thing or two about Linux. And what I know leads me to believe otherwise. From the stock ROM, to the several versions of CM, to a few versions of KingClick's Desire ROM, ALL of them exhibit the touchscreen issues on my phone. This is probably due to the fact that while each one might run slightly modified kernels, the module that handles the touchscreen support is the same in all of them, since it's ultimately built from the same sources. Maybe it's my specific phone, but I find that hard to believe given the scope of complaints I've read here and elsewhere on the Internet.

Indeed, sir. But as far as I know it was only to resolve an exchange support issue. I'll gladly deal with this issue to have a properly working touchscreen. Again, I never said or even implied the Incredible is perfect.

You're arguing with yourself on this one, dude.
My logic was quite lucid. My point was essentially that I believe 99% of the people who frequent these forums run custom ROMs on their handsets. Therefore other than using them for the purposes of building custom ROMs, no one really gives a rat's a** about 'official' ROMs, because 99% of the people here probably don't run them on their phone.
Furthermore, the 99% of us that do run custom ROMs will be running the Incredible's version of whatever Froyo ROMs are available.... Probably within a week or two of when they're available for the N1. We will not have to wait 'several months' as the other dude stated earlier.

I have had my slide for a very long time now. I feel like development is coming to a crawl. CM7 will never have flash integration even though we keep getting upgraded versions of android. The CM7 forum is floaded with issues the last time I peeked. Gotta love those guys for giving us hope and their time. The Alpharev 2 looks super promising kinda wish chiefreloadz and other dev's would take a peek at it to give us life. I am at a point where getting a new phone is inevitable. Wish I could setup a poll via my slide to see how many people feel the same way. How many of you feel the same or disagree with me.

I feel the same way too. The slide really is a powerful device. I'm really upset it died so quickly.

Yeaaa and I'm especially dissapointed w/ the lack of custom kernels. I see so many devices w/ a wide variety of custom kernels (new and old phones), but this one only has 2 (dumfuq and miguel). I root other peoples phones and do overclocking and such, and I c all these kernels to choose from, while this device only has 2 kernels, even lower end devices have more kernels than this..

The slow of progress in the Slide has driven me to new levels in the android world. I have made many sad attempts at creating my own Roms from source...as well as several successful attempts at modifying a ROM to fit my needs...as well as creating batch files to do most of the the work for me when it comes to nightlies, but nothing original. I am sad to to see this phone in the state it is since this is the second phone I've had of the android family. (I've hacked many others for the purpose of profit) I still use and maintain several G1s...which re-enforces my dismay over the staleness of this device. My next buy is a G2x (LG Optimus 2x). I could wait for the 3D line in the next year but my boredom has eclipsed my interest 10 fold. I plan on passing this phone on to my wife when she gets home from active duty in South Korea. So all is not lost. I know this doesn't even belong in this sub-topic of the forum but I thought it worth sharing my opinion on.

Well in my attempt of waiting for several things to happen I just went online and pre-ordered my WIFI Motorola Xoom. I am very excited hoping this will not have me thinking about my slide that often awaiting the next best thing. I also have a Nokia Maemo phone which the firmware will be updated to Meego by the end of April so its a matter of waiting I guess. Well hopefully this thread will bring things back to life if not then I would like to say goodbye to my slide by the end of the year and get myself a new phone with more power yada yada. lol. Anways...

As for the HTC Slide. I just upgraded from my Motorola Cliq a few weeks ago.
It's definitely a big hardware boost, but the dev support is certainly less.

Actually they removed that thread a long time ago,the only way to get it is to get it from someone who has it.
As for the slide I still have mine and it's running strong. It's a nice little phone and I don't think support for it will fade entirely for a while, there's just not much else that needs to be done to improve it thanks to cyanogen.

I actually posted a comment similar to this thread in the Gingersense thread. But yes I feel as if upgrading handsets will be the only way to get that "new phone" feeling I had got when first flashing cm6 and cm7 .
Edit: also this phone has yet to reach a year in age.(june or July)
And as far as flashplayer, its not the roms that don't support it but the UI. Sense UI was flash lite compatible but only armv7 processors are full flash capable.

Im sure most know, but maybe not the original poster, that this is not the place for this. Yes, you are talking about devs and roms and what-not, but this has nothing to add to the development community.
Yes, the slide does lack devs unfortunately. It is very sad that many devs did not take an interest in this device early on and those that did lost interest. I personally dont get it since i love this device. But the last thing to do is to complain about all that and just leave it at that. One of you said you tried to tinker with roms. Great! Thats what we need. We need people to get off their asses and take initiative. Lack of devs led me to attempt the port gingersense. I do not call myself a dev since i know 0 code and simply just know a few tricks, but at least i try. I would like to see more people start tinkering. If you love your slide, keep it alive. If you think you dont have the time, thats on you. I personally have a full time carreer which has crazy hours and a nearly full term pregnant wife (which means i have to do nearly everything around the house).
If you read this all, thx, i hope this sticks with someone.

I agree with most of what's been said. There really isn't much else we can do with the slide. With everything that's available to us, we have it, and that's about it. Since no one likes the mid-range of the slide and they all want the high-end awesomeness of the newer phones, the slide has few people to share their roms and themes.
I've had my slide since the very start of the slide era, and it is great with CM7 it does everything you want from a daily phone. I feel like I want something more tho, everything seems outdated with all of the new software and apps out there, we can't use them because of the slides hardware. Sad that's it's only been a year since it came out and it's outdated..tho I suppose launching the Galaxy S right after the slide launch just made it seem outdated weeks after.
As soon as I'm available for an upgrade in April I will be switching to a new phone; which I think most of us, who just want something more, are doing.

I got my slide on June 4th 2010, the day it was available for customers. I have loved my slide since. I learned soooo much about the Android OS and its capabilities since owning my Slide. I absolutely love it and want to hang onto it for as long as possible. It does everything I need it to do and it does it fast. Doesn't Cyanogens wife have a slide? I would think he would continue devving for it until his wife switches phones. Just a thought

Listen I agree this is probably not the place for this but its a great place to voice my opinion to dev's which there is a huge shortage for this phone (this is my sole opinion). I have learned a ton from my slide. My first android phone was a maemo phone with a rigged android version on it. That made me want to get the slide because of android. I apologize if I offended people but just voicing my opinion on a topic that has been an ongoing discussion for many of us slide users.
