look inside the windows folder on my comp...ive tried on windows xp and vista...is there a sertain program?...

I don't understand the question. Are you trying to browse to your computer from your PDA?
If you are sitting in front of your computer, and you can't use Windows Explorer to navigate to your Windows directory, and you can't do it on XP or Vista, then I think you aren't doing something correctly.

Dont physically abuse the computer just because you cant operate it. Perhaps you cant see the files because they are hidden?

Bring up activesync click explore then click My Windows Mobile-Based Device then click the windows folder. Sometime it takes a while for it to come up so all you'll have is a white screen. I've seen it take up to 45 seconds to bring it up finally so don't get impatient if it doesn't come right up. If that doesn't work then there's something definitely wrong somewhere.

Do any of the folders on your phone show up when you browse your phone through activesync? Does it show the files in it when you browse to it on your phone itself using either file explorer or total commander?
Just as I was writing this I had another thought that it might be. It's possible that they are just hidden. Click on browse on activesync, then in the window it opens on your computer click on the tools link at the top and then folder options and then on the View tab at the top then go to the Hidden files and folders option and change it to show hidden files and folders.
If that doesn't fix it then it's probably time to uninstall and reinstall activesync and try again.

yes all files show up except windows...ill look and c if it is hidden...TY!

Tethering in linux [SOLVED]

I spent a lot of time getting the 6800 to sync under linux. Finally, using synce, I have done it, all access to the phone.
Now I want to tether. I have noticed under wm6, the wmodem app is in \windows folder, but it will not start. I know you used to have to enable it via a ## code, but it wont work on the 6800.
So I either need to figure out how to get the wmodem app to work under wm6, so i can have the phone emulate a modem. Or, the second option being to possible use ndiswrapper to use it, since it does show up as a generic rndis device, and under my system as soon as i plug it in (with adv net. function tab checked under connections>usb to pc) it shows up as an ethernet device.
Please linux users jump in and lets figure this out!!

I'm not a big linux user, but this would be very good to know!

I know they tethered the iphone by setting up some sort of proxy on the phone then tethering via wifi,surely this could also be possible using windows mobile given the right app. Please dont tell me im the only linux user out there that cares!!
BTW.. the iphone runs a modified *NIX/BSD im jealous
EDIT: I have also been successful in use the program 'synce' to initiate an activesync connection with the pda. Doesnt pdanet tunnel through a connection like this?? surely there are some fancy iptables or route commands to accomplish this in linux.

USBModem
USBModem is supposed to be able to work with Linux.... There is a free trial to check out.. I'm planning on using it once the Asus Eee comes out..

usbmodem will only give you some dialup scripts which wm6 DOES NOT supoport over usb. I did however solve my problem. The svn version of synce's usb-rndis-lite is the holy grail.

Can you post the resources you used, or the steps you took, to accomplish this? I'd like to tackle that problem before getting into tethering.
I see the device in dmesg as an RNDIS device (not handled by the ipaq module), but then I can't get multisync or synce to do anything with it after that. All I need to do is save my contacts, and be able to transfer files. I'm going to be replacing my Mogul soon, and I'd like to be able to restore everything once I get the new one. But in my apartment, windows machines are a rare commodity.

Can you post a wlkthrough as I joined the site for practically this very reason. Thanks in advance

i'm going to guess you can follow this guide but use the svn steps for the driver

Anyone know how to BROWSE the contents of the HTC 6800/MOGUL on Ubuntu? I dont even want to sync, i just want to browse the contents of my Device & Storage card on my phone...
Cant seem to figure this out, SYncE doesnt seem to work for me...

Laptop + HD bluetooth problem

i have a Toshiba Satellite.. about 1 year long and i put a Kingston bluetooth USB on.. ive used it before with my Sony Ericsson and i had no problem but now that i try to connect with my HD it doesn't work.
my HD thinks it connected but my computer doesn't
i cant send files to the phone or anything at all.
its not even recognized
everything works fine if i use the USB cable the HD brought
do i need to update some kind of drive? or what?
anyone got any ideas?

Windows Bluetooth Protocols
Just an idea, but some phones use File Transfer Protocol on Bluetooth, however Windows Mobile devices use Object Push Protocol, adding this protocol onto your Laptops range of available Bluetooth settings, SHOULD allow you to transfer files between Laptop and Touch HD via Bluetooth. Had a similar problem with my laptop!

"Once upon a time" in windows mobile 6 I was able to browse my phone through bluetooth connection.
Now with the Blackstone it appears to be impossible. There is no such option within the bluetooth settings.

i still cant get it to work.. what i did notice is that the Image File Transfer Protocal (for pictures and basic types of files) isn't available on the HD.. maybe thats why it doesn't work.
EDIT: has anyone gotten their phone to work with bluetooth? to send files? like a picture? or a new problem you just got? or a powerpoint? ..
im so lazy to hook up the cable every time.

i can send and receive files to my device and have them stored to my Bluetooth Share folder on my storage card. i exported the registry changes and dll from my Orbit2. you can get the dll file here and the registry changes here. it's probabaly best if you follow my instructions from here. once you've made the changes, soft reset and you should be able to send files to your folder of choice without prompts. there are probably other methods of accomplishing the same task, but this has worked for me since i've had my HD. oh yeah, the disclaimer: you assume all risk for anything that happens as a result fo the import and file copy to your device.

i rather not go through all that.. dont want to mess up anything. leaving it pretty much stock. best way to go. besides adding programs (real ones) haha.. only thing i have is HD Tweak from here.. i dont evne have gyrator.. not really needed. thanks anyway. ill just use the cable.

if you're not an experienced WM user, i can understand not wanting to follow the detailed instructions. they were created for the person who requested the info. really, your not installing software, your copying a (certified windows mobile dll) file to your device and importing a registry setting. it's basically the manual steps a cab file would execute. you copy the dll to your windows folder, use PHM or Resco Registry to import the registry settings, soft reset and then try to send a file to your laptop. that's it.

For me ActiveSync over Bluetooth between the Toshiba with Bluetooth dongle and the HD works out of the box, with standard Vista Bluetooth drivers (not the Toshiba ones). Key was to start the Sync from the HD (after pairing the two devices of course), it would never connect when trying to start the sync from the Desktop. To start Activesync, go to Settings tab in the TF3D UI, and use the first option "Sync Data" (Daten synchronsieren on my German ROM).

same here.... this method is to transfer files via Bluetooth/OBEX to a folder of your choice without prompts and without having to connect to WDMC or AS...

[Q] Drivers.

Sigh.. can someone who has the drivers installed on their PC zip up the directory and upload it somewhere for me (I don't have WindowsMediaPlayer 11 - nor do I want to - installed on any PC in my house). Thus, I can't install their stupid drivers. I can provide an FTP to upload to.

Sure, if it's not that, I'm not sure what else it is. This needing a driver to use this as a drive is the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Thanks, I managed to get it working, I had to install WMP 11 though (got the driver from another PC, it installed but didn't allow copying files). Pain in the ass if you ask me.

I understand the driver portion for using the Acer Sync crap, which I'd likely never use, but some may. There should at least be an option to enable "block device only" and let us use the damn thing like a USB drive though. Maybe once we get some SMB/CIFS hacked into the kernels it won't be such a pain just to copy files.

is there a way to send files from ur pc directly like you would with the og droid?

f-droid.org has an ftp server if that's what you mean.

no like when i hook my og droid to the pc it shows up as a removable drive. then i high light the file i want to send and send. i dont have a genuine copy of windows and cant install win media player 11 nor want to. is the another driver to this action work?

When you say USB are you not talking about hooking the miniUSB
to USB cable that came with the A500 to a PC and communicating?
If so, all you have to do is download the USB driver from the Acer
Support site and run the "Setup".
Then you can copy back and forth just like the G-Tablet.
Did I miss something??

I think it has more functions built into it than just straight USB. I think it also will function with ADB. And I have noted that when I work on my G-Tablets, my PC has
started picking up this driver to use instead of the ones I was using with the G-Tablets.

Because you need WMP11 installed on your PC. Which sucks, why they'd make a driver like that at all is beyond me.
Someone tried to manually copy the driver and it still didn't work. You do actually need more crap than just the driver to use it.

Programmatically transfer file from Windows to Android phone

Hello Community,
By now, everyone knows Android has dropped support for USB Mass Storage access to its folder. Which means a Windows computer can no longer programmatically copy a file from Windows to a USB-connected Android device.
I have a Windows application that needs to be able to drop a text file from time to time onto an Android phone. I also have an Android app that monitors a certain folder on the device and processes those text files as they come in. In the past, all I had to do on the Windows side was to map a drive pointing to the Android device and my Windows app would then be able to copy the files to that drive. But that doesn't work anymore with more recent versions of Android.
The phone and the computer may be located in an environment where no wifi is available or where both devices are not on the same wifi network. The computer may also not have bluetooth capabilities. In other words, the only thing I can count on with certainty is the USB connexion between the phone and the computer.
I could use a batch file calling ADB, but since different phones may have different ADB drivers, it means I can't provide a generic way for my Windows App to transfer a file to any Android phone. And I have no control over which phone gets connected to which computer. In addition, I can't use a GUI based application to transfer the files: my Windows application needs to run unattended, without having to wait for user action. The same is true of the Android application.
I know there are a number of WebDav/FTP/Bluetooth applications I can install on the Android device so that it can expose a folder to outside computers, but they all rely on over the air connectivity. I tried to find information on writing my own Android Server application that would "publish" a folder to the PC to which the phone is connected via USB, but I can't find anything of use in the Android SDK documentation; the USB stuff all pertains to IoT, not to the actual link that gets established between a PC and a phone. I think what I need to do is to write an app that turns the device into some kind of Samba server that's accessible through the USB connecion, but I have no idea where to start looking for documentation on doing it.
Does anyone have any pointers on how to accomplish this?
PS: please don't start asking questions like "Why do you need to drop a file onto the phone", or "Why don't you just make sure Wifi or bluetooth is always available?". I already explained those restrictions and they are there for very good reasons. So thanks for staying on topic.

I am also under the same question of "how to transfer a file from PC to Android Device". The only difference is, I have a GUI which prepare data to be transferred. The user can say "proceed" to copy.
Have found any solution for the above question raised ??
