One morning woke up to find that my lock screen on my phone has changed sides. Before to unlock it I had to slide the triangle from the lower left in an arc to the right, now the unlock sits on the lower right of my screen and I have to slide it to the left? Don't know how or what has caused this. Anybody have this issue?
1. Wrong section
2. Follow the restore path in reverse direction to change allignment
1. Yeah I realized after I submitted it that it should have been in the General section.
2. Thanks for the info
If you hold down on the lock, you should be able to set which side you want it to scroll up.

Hi Mr Moe,
On the lock screen, hold your finger down on the top of the arc and simply slide your finger to the left or to the right and you will see the lock arc switch sides, when you remove your finger the arc will stay to the side you set.
Cheers
Stu
Something to note as well. The occurence with the lock screen isn't really a problem as some may suspect.
What happened was, while you were sleeping, your "phone" activated the dimension reverso portal chip. This will cause the phone to operate as a "sliding" device. You see, a worm hole is opened, ripping through the very fabric of time and space, which allows you (or any owner of an X10) to "travel" to other dimensions. In order to return to the when and where from whence you left, your gps must be activated.
If you dropped or banged your phone against something the chip may have been activated erroroneously causing the reverso lock screen dilemma.
The only sure fix is to eat a peanut butter, onion, and mayonaise sandwich while holding down the power button. Most important, lest I forget....The sandwich most be microwaved for 5 minutes and eaten within 45 secs upon removal from said microwave.
If that solution doesn't work I have a team of "homeboys" on stand-by around the clock to lend assisstance.

That has got to be one of the most detailed fixes I've read on this forum - without your help Mr. wcdisciple I would've been stuck in a rip in time where the past, present and future all collide and the only source of food is infact watermellon and grapefruit - luckily enough for me I had a bag of peanuts, a bunch of onions, a tub of whole egg mayonaise in my nap sack. Unfortunately I had to reverse engineer a 1000W microwave from a picture I saw on a local cooking show I saw the night before my untimely depature from this universe.
I thank you from the depth of my snapdragon loving heart.

**First, I don't know if this really belongs in the Q&A Section or in this General Section, so sorry if I misplaced this thread.**
Here's the story:
Yesterday in San Francisco marked the last day of Fleet Week demonstrations by the Blue Angels, who ride FA-18 jets. Our Italian Heritage Day and Columbus Day parade was held at the same time the flight demonstrations occurred. My school marching band (which I am part of) participated in the parade, and we would here the jets flying above us, producing loud cracks, so I assume they were creating sonic booms.
I put my HD2 in a thin leather sleeve, which then goes into my band's U.S. Marine uniform's inner breast pocket. Of course, the two-mile parade made me sweat. At the end of the parade, I took out my phone, and the sleeve was wet (but the phone was dry). When I turned it on, it was frozen, so I did a soft reset. When it rebooted, I noticed something weird...
Here's my issue:
Every time I add pressure on the power button (I don't have to depress it all the way), it launches my task manager (ArkSwitch) and the screen freezes until I turn off the screen by fully depressing the power button. When I turn on and unlock the screen, ArkSwitch is open.
I flashed the T-Mo USA stock ROM (WM6.5), and when I add pressure to the power button, it launches the Start Menu. This made me realize that the power button has somehow been cross-wired to the screen's top-left corner (where the start menu is now located, and where the ArkSwitch activation field was located)!
Here's a question:
Has anyone ever heard of this before? My friend's iPhone, right after the parade, could not make a call -- it would not launch anything, but the home screen still swiped left/right. Another friend, who has a Samsung dumb-phone, took out his phone at the end of the parade, and the screen was shattered! Is it possible that the waves from the sonic booms may have affected our phones (We've been in longer, hotter parades, so I don't think humidity is much of an issue, especially taking into consideration the broken screen of my friend's Samsung. Also, the water damage indicators are still white, so sweat didn't penetrate)? This has never happened to me before, but this is the first time I marched this particular parade with my HD2 in my pocket (I've already marched 3 parades with the HD2); I marched with my TP2 in the same pocket last year, and it was never affected (I marched probably 6-7 parades with the TP2).
~~I now have restored stock SPL, and I'm going to go to the T-Mo store to try to get a warranty swap.
Update
I'm getting a replacement phone soon.
I spoke to one local rep and 2 CS (on the phone) reps. All 3 of them were dumbfounded when I explained the hardware problem. The local rep who actually witnessed me pressing the Power Button, which launched the Start Menu, was so confused he didn't even bother doing anything -- he immediately took out the battery, looked at the water damage indicators, wrote down the IMEI, and told me he wrote a note on my account regarding a strange hardware problem, and that CS will deal with warranty swaps.
The 2 CS spokespersons were just plain confused about the issue! Good thing they just ended up doing a warranty swap without pulling the "Did you do a hard reset?" stuff.
Anyway, I'm still curious as to how this happened. I've had my HD2 since mid-April, and this failure occurred only yesterday (Oct.10).
Wow, that's strange
If you have another device you should use that one for a day or two and leave all cards and the battery out of device, and maybe put some pressure on the hard send key. Something similar happened to my Topaz over the summer, it was really hot out and I'm pretty sure I didn't get any sweat on it. Anyways, somehow the next day the windows hard key opened up the dialer all of a sudden and there were some tiny green lines on the phone.. after a while the green slowely creeped down to the bottom of the screen and dissapeared (over a period of three months) and the hardware buttons eventually fixed themselves (over about a week).
Were you drinking at this parade?

No offense intended, but the Blue Angels don't "ride" FA-18s, they fly them. In aircraft passengers ride and pilots (or naval aviators) fly.
The Blue Angels did not go supersonic. The aircraft at the airshow did not affect your phone in any way. Think about it. If you experienced a sonic boom that could break your phone, what do you suppose would have happened to your eardrums? Plus, the Blue Angels are all about precision flying. I guarantee they didn't accidentally go supersonic, and they damn sure didn't do it on purpose. Hope that helps narrow down what happened to your phone... Wish I could be more help, but at least I eliminated a blind alley!

I didn't have alcohol of course, but I did have a bottle of water after the parade (and I swear I didn't miss my mouth when I drank it).

Not offended at all. (I admit I'm ignorant when it comes to aviation.)
Geez, when 3 Blue Angels members (1 pilot and 2 engineers) came to my school for a brief recruitment presentation, they did say they go supersonic during some points of the demonstrations -- maybe they realized us kids these days just don't know that much about aviation.
I love watching the Blue Angels fly. I used to go to Downtown SF each year to watch them on their last performance, but now that my marching band participates in the parade that occurs during the demonstrations, I barely get to watch them anymore (I just hear them flying above me).
Thanks. Now I think aliens are just screwing with me...

The iPhone is working fine; my friend has had no issues since the parade. The Samsung, which had the broken screen but still had calling capabilities, stopped working altogether -- my friend just got a new phone to renew his contract.
I'm still at school and my HD2's at home, so I don't know if it's working well yet.
sure its a screen issue...there is a video on youtube of a hd2 being pressed near the hardkeys and doing funny things
Had like same problem with my old Wizard. when pressed over dpad up button it launched always start menu, but when pressed exactly at dpad up button it did what it was meant to like there would have been extra button hidden..
but as for sonic boom, no they didn't do that at no chance at all. it is very dangerous for people near mostly for ears. and as far as I know they are allowed to do that only very high in the air where is no "outsiders" and only far away from cities and other stuff.
thumbs up for you getting new phone
Well my HD2's still broken... Looking at the UPS tracking, I should get my phone in 20 hours (when I get home from school tomorrow).

See, the weird thing is, why would the hardware suddenly fail after 6 months of use?
I imagined the would fail within one month of using the phone; I never thought of it taking 6 months.
I finally received my HD2 today. I can tell it's refurbished; the screen was not lined up correctly with the uni-body sides/back design, so I had to push the screen down on the sides to line it up (I assume the screen was replaced on this device). Whatever, just as long as this lasts me at least another year, it's fine.
Scabes24, the "fix" you recommended hasn't worked yet, and I will have to return the broken phone by the time it might fix itself (you said about 1 week).
Back to flashing... I can finally update my one-month-old ROM and my sig.
(Oh, yay! 1000th post!)

The 30 second threshold is actually something built in to aid in detection of moisture on the screen and normalize the touch plane (like shaking an Etch A Sketch). The algorithm is this case assumes a finger that is on one spot for an extended period of time is actually a drop of water. If the finger is removed from the screen, touch should become usable again in a second or two in that spot. The touch driver would then detect essentially a "negative touch" in the area where the finger was removed and do a screen calibration (shake the Etch A Sketch again). We are looking into what can be done to increase this time threshold for you gamers and still provide a good water immunity experience. The tradeoff would be if your phone screen gets wet (rain or mist), the touch on the screen would become basically unusable. Stay tuned to this thread for updates.
It does make sense when you think about it.
Whenever I hear stuff like this I get a little bit disappointed. What ever happened to being able to ENABLE/DISABLE features like this? Wouldn't that make a hell of a lot more sense then trying to increase the threshold time?

I dunno. It can really go both ways to be honest. I don't think it's a massive flop by any means. I'm personally not the biggest gamer so it's not a big deal to me. But I do see where it's a bit of a ***** as well.
Hopefully they think of something constructive to address the challenge.
Thanks, plz keep us posted about this issue, this glitch is the worst of all. I hope they can fix it soon, altought i thought that they will fix it on the last release 4.1.83 but they did not!!!
It isn't completely without reason, though... So I don't think anyone can really call it a"glitch". That would be like saying the touchpad on a laptop it's glitched because the cursor won't move if you're palming it, even though most have features to prevent movement in such situations. It's basically to make sure the screen is still usable should it get a spot of water on it. But I guess if they didn't have such a measure, we'd possibly be reading threads complaining about the opposite.

I don't think I would ever say "This is horrible. I can't believe my phone doesn't work when I leave drops of water on the screen for 10+ secs!"...
Now, I say this all the time "I can't believe that I can't play most emulator games on the Atrix because I can't leave my finger on the same spot for 10+ secs"
I just hope that this doesn't have anything to do with hardware and more of a software problem (feature).
there should be a way for games to turn that off.
How do other phones handle that? HTC, Apple?
I agree, there should be a way to turn it off. They may have an explanation, but there really is no excuse when other phones like the iPhone handle such things completely seamlessly. Their implementation and solution to the perceived water issue may work, but only under ideal conditions (ie. where you aren't needing to touch the screen for some time).
I don't get this, who leaves water drops on their screen for 10+ second while they're using it? If I'm getting this straight, it will only ignore the input after it has been sitting there for a while.
The reason I post now is that I was using my SGS in the rain the other day. It actually did go wonky when some big water drops landed on it, but my reaction was not "gee I hope there is an algorithm that will ignore that input in 10 seconds" it was to wipe the water off and get to cover!
I game and never had a problem with this.

uuh... last time i checked, water on the screen won't kill the phone.
And i don't think it's only referring to "Hey look, it's raining. Those drops of water might affect your touchscreen." I can't imagine tiny little droplets possibly from the process of wiping the screen wouldn't have the same effect.
maledyris: Well... that's also the iPhone... who's vast majority of users probably wouldn't be able to tell you why a capacitive touchscreen is leaps and bounds better than a resistive touchscreen, or even what the difference is. All they know is it's from Apple.... and has the GB's and the WiFi's.... and every sheep in town has one.

You're right, but how many people just let water hang out on the screen for long periods of time? I know I wipe it right off. A drop sitting there for 10+ seconds probably means water is getting behind the screen, probably means say goodbye to your phone as it is about to die.

Hi guys,,
I'm really happy today as I got rid of the newton rings from my tab's screen
The steps I took to fix the screen:
1- Hardly throw the tab on your bed and repeat it about ten times
2- as soon as your done from that you will notice that the newton rings had disappeared, run as fast to the fridge and place it there,, make sure you arrive to the fridge before having the newton rings showing up again
3- keep it for about 20 min

How do you know? I contacted Samsung support and they fixed my tablet which had newton's rings.
Not so difficult , I just took it to samsung service center and they changed the Display in one hour only, the new display has a different quality and no issues so far. (Indonesia-Jakarta)
But the problem is I got my Tab from amazon (US),, and I'm living in Bahrain,, does anyone know how much it will cost me to fix it ?

I've got the same problem, my Tab comes from US Amazon and i live in Ireland.
I thought the procedure would be more like: 1. Open window. 2. Throw tab out window...
I found moving to a higher altitude and cooler climate made them go away, but when I came back home, the rings returned. So I sent it off for repair to Verizon.
Solution!
I caught the famous newton rings two days ago after 2 months of ownership - and paniced at once. I read about all the disappointed users and returns and repairs. And decided to do the same. Got a ticket from the berlin workshop, that officially repairs for samsung. But i like experimenting. So i followed some leads before sending in. Put it in the fridge, warm it up on the heating. Both had no effect. At first. Disappointed, I let it lie beside my keyboard and continued working. When i looked at the 10.1 after 40 minutes again, the stain, that measured 2,5 * 5,5 cm in the morning and rather grew bigger when trying to treat, was shrunk to 1*3 cm or so. I did not trust my eyes. After another 10 mins, it was only the size of a fingerprint. And then - the whole screen totally went back to completely normal on its own. No rubbing or pressing could change that development.
My conclusion, and i can not believe, that samsung has not published that quickly and clearely, is that it is a moisture-problem. The weather these days is moist and also, i worked with the tab in moist surrounding lately. The "healing" set in, when i had the tab heated up to ca. 30 - 40 degrees celsius and then let it rest for some time with no cover in a dry room at 20 degrees celsius.
Try it before complaining, if you can live with thecircumstances. I do not know, if the replacement-screens of samsung is different, new at all or only dried by samsung... i will not send in mine anymore.
I can confirm, that the healing by administer some heat is permanent and also by doing the fridge and the heating again after the healing, i could not provoke any stain again.
Good luck!

Dude how many threads do you want to fill with the same rubbish ... And for your information. It isnt moisture, but display layers which overlap due to deformation caused by heat and pressing.. So heating or pressing does not help. Fridge or just waiting to cool off would have helped though.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
Well, just wanted to make sure, everyone that searches for can find the info.
It could be an expansion - recompression phaenomenon, but why is it that temporary and why doesn't it appear whenever the battery becomes hot.
There must be something like whater vapour or air pressure be involved too. Even if it is not moisture, that can be forced out,
Something is gone, after heating the whole tablet up and coolimg it down again slowly.
Coud be only tension, but i doubt it.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
It is air. And as I said. Heat influences the displaylayers, so they expand and touch each other at some point. Cooling them off resolves the problem. If you put heavy things on your display (ie. during transport inside a bag) this could increase the problem, as the layers get deformed.
Put a couple ice cubes into a plastic bag (or whatever container to prevent water from leaking) and place it on top of the ring. The temperature drop will cause the screen to contract and pull it out of contact.
Worked for me
What do you think about using suction effect with a sucker for glasses?
This maybe would work on newton ring to detach the glass layer from the other lcd-layer.

Not much: since the reason for the rings seems to lay behind the screen (swallen batterie?), when the suction goes, the pressure from behind reappears...

Dude, the reason the newton rings leave is because they are heat related. So you could do what your doing and break your tab in no time or you can just let it sit on the bed for a while and the same result with occur.
Use your head.
Just thought my fellow Epic 4G users would enjoy this story: Yesterday I did a stupid thing. After bragging to my iPhone-touting friends about how nice it was to simply change my battery when it died on my way over, I got in the pool. After about 30 minutes of swimming, I finally realized that my Epic was still in the pocket of my swim shorts. I immediately took it out, removed the battery (phone had already shut itself off) and put it at the side of the pool. My friends mocked me, said now I'd have to get a new phone ("You should get an iPhone" Haha). I kept swimming for 2 more hours, and when I got home promptly dismantled the phone and set it out to dry over night. This morning, my friends were surprised to get a text message...my phone still works! I've had this phone since release day over 2 years ago...and I am right in line to get the SIII...go Samsung!
I'm currently running CM9 beta 3 with the default overclock at 1200MHz. The battery seems to drain a little faster and the phone itself gets a little hotter during heavy use, but it will get me by until June 21

One of them already has. She dropped it into a sink or something like a week after she got it....grabbed it out immediately but it was already toasted. The downside with the iPhone (or any phone without a removable battery) is that you can't remove the power source once it gets wet, so even if you turn the phone off there is a trickle of electrons that causes all the circuits to corrode.
Android offers variety and flexibility. This can be good or bad, depending on the individual user's level of comprehension regarding various computer-related technologies.
Apple products are convenient for those who either can't understand the more complicated computer-related concepts, or don't care to (similarly, I am fully capable of learning everything necessary to be a mechanic, but I'll pay someone to change my oil if I have the money and not the time/tools/etc.). Convenience always has a price...
But in my experience, it has always been much more rewarding to handle any task with knowledge than with money... the question is whether that is because I was fortunate enough to be able to comprehend some complicated concepts, or because I've always been so broke that I didn't have any other choice

Your lucky I did a similar thing and my epic is not working.
Give it some time. Water damage doesn't always show itself right away. Could be days, weeks, months but I'm willing to bet your phone will either completely not work one day. Or things will stop working 1 by 1. Like the keyboard one day then the home button the next.

a guy at my work had his epic touch in his pocket and he tipped in his canoe. long story short he let me have the phone since it didn't work any longer. I took it apart and now I own an epic touch. if you can take it apart use a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol clean the board and let it dry. Worked like a charm for me.

Correct. The thing to have done was to dissemble and rinse with de-ionized (distilled) water to remove the pool chemicals as they are corrosive. Then a through all drying before re energizing.

If your phone should be submersed in water or any liquid substance the first thing to do is remove the power source, the diodes act as ionizers because water is so reactive to energy. although most of the time the circuitry in the batteries go out but the electronic might sill work if you change batteries.
After a trip to a shower my HTC One was declared dead (boot loop even after rice, humidity remover, heat, and others) I figured I would open the phone even it it meant that I could destroy it. It turns out that all you really need is patience and tools already available. Sure, I did bent the upper cover but, hey, everything else is intact.
I started by removing the volume button and started using those "guitar picks" around going down. Added some heat to unset the glue and moving slowly I started prying open the right side (when you are looking at the lcd). Than continued moving down until the left side was stuck. After that I went high on the volume button to set the whole right side open.
Now I'm using the other tool (the one that looks like a lever?) I started opening the left side. This side was a lot harder so I applied heat again. After that the glue wasn't an issue and it started to open nicely. Now I have the phone open and I'll see if I can get it working again.
Sorry for the English. I'm too excited to correct the mistakes and I'm not from an English speaking country.
Edit: added tools pictures.
The guitar picks were used to start opening the phone. The green and blue tool were used to open the left/top/bottom sides. The light blue tool was used mostly as a lever on the right side that was already open.
Edit2:
Video will be here shortly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48832250&postcount=22
Overall experience while opening the HTC One (compared to the iPad 2/iPhone 3G/S/4S/iPod touch 5th/Motorola Atrix/Transformer Prime) I would give it a 4. The iPad being a 2 (almost impossible to open without a heat source and nearly impossible to mount a new glass without issues).

Phone is back. 100% working again. After opening it up I used a hairdryer on the "on/off" switch, left it open to cool down. After an hour I left it charging and left it there. It wasn't boot looping anymore and it turned on.

Same phone. I just glued it back to position with a superglue (superbonder is the trademark I've used). Used a toothpick to smear it gently and used some phone books to keep things in place. The top aluminum part was bent but the superglue is now holding it.
About the video, I'm not sure I'm willing to open it again. It would be awesome tho..
I have read that under the speaker grills there are screws holding it together.. did you encounter these screws?

Found no screws. It's stuck together in one piece by some clips on the white border only. It's also glued around the same white border.
Follow-up: The phone is still working fine but not charging anymore. I'll wait to open it again later, in about two days or so, and than I'll video the process to see if there's something wrong. Hopefully it's fixable. And I hope I can open it without issues just like the first time. If it doesn't charge I'll see if I can get a new charging port (maybe the water did some damage by rusting the contacts of the port).
It seems that the phone is playing tricks on me. It's charging today.. Go figure..
Could be the water damage. I read where people with different phones talked about the phone acting weird like it just stop charging or the screen won't come on. That would come and go without warning. Remember my father in law damaged a phone once when he was a truck driver and delivering his load in to a walk in freezer. He made many trips in and out and I guess from the extreme cold to heat made it condensate inside the phone. Where are the water damage labels on the phone beings you had it open?

Double post.
Water labels are intact and since htc left Brazil we don't have an authorized to fix it so I opened it and saw that there is no water indicator in red. The water damage sticker is below the flash. Look at the pictures and you'll see a white sticker below the flash and another close to the usb port on the lower side of the phone. Not sure if the second one is a water damage indicator..
I'll keep using the phone till I get some alone time to open it. Tho I'm worried that I might break the phone this time (since it's working again - for no apparent reason).
So, yeah, there's an issue with the charging. Not sure if it's the port or the phone. Tested different chargers and it won't charge while it's on nor when it's off. After a day off it charged (yesterday) but now it won't charge. This sux. I have to find out what's going on. So, yes, I'll have to open it again. I can't have a phone that will be used to drive using gps all day behaving it like that. Phones won't last 4 hours on battery alone while using gps.
Added new picture with tools used..
Sorry for the double/triple post, but it's the best way to keep everyone informed..
If I helped you in any way please consider donating something so I can buy a new phone. The HTC One is dead due to an issue with the USB connector or something else that I'm still not aware. I will use this phone as a test bed from now on to see if I can fix other stuff without breaking too so I do need a new phone. You can donate here: http://bit.ly/1a9vqqg
Thanks and enjoy the video! I hope it helps a lot of people.
A video will be uploaded here: (it's 04:37am GMT -2) and still 205 minutes left to upload. Video will be 720p and it's 1.2gb so yeah, it will take a while. But now I'm off to bed. And sorry for my english. I'm ok writing but I'm so so when speaking. I said I would edit the video but since it's just shy of 19 minutes I figured I would leave it like that.
If you guys have any idea on what to do to help me fix the charging issue I would see if I can try that now that the phone can be easily opened. :fingers-crossed:
