Hi
I'm the very proud owner of a HTC HD2.
When trying to install most tweeks / .cabs the phone says unsuccessful cannot install due to invalid or no certificate.
I have CERegEditor installed on PC. is there a simple reg change or app to overcome this? I have searched in this forum...but not been able to find.
Many thanks..
Rob
Hi and welcome to XDA fellow tmobile uk user
tmobile blocks changes to the registry, there are 2 solutions to this
a cab file is a simple installation file for your phone, people here will make these tweaks into cab files, download them from the device and install them onto your device and restart the phone
the other solution is to flash your phone to another rom, either stock rom or custom rom makes no difference
i am currently using artemis 5.5 and it is 10000x better than the tmobile stock rom
hope this helps!

hi Mr CGREC92....
If you do flash the rom, say, to the latest official HTC updated ROM, does this create problems with your warranty on the Tmobile phone?
thanks cgrec92,
any problems in flashing an new radio or rom on uk tmobile? how about getting tmobile setting ?
Bandare and RobLion, flashing the first time may be a scary thing but I assure you its much easier than you think and the whole process lasts about 5 minutes.
The phone and text messaging settings are on the SIM card, not on the phone, flashing a new ROM will not affect this.
As soon as the phone turns on for the first time after a flash, it prompts you to connect to the Internet using your data connection. Select your operator from the list as Tmobile and the phone will do the rest for you.
To summarize, nothing changes to your phone, text, or internet settings.
You will however need to perform a hard reset after a flash which wipes data from your phone such as your contacts, photos and text messages. A simple backup program, I use Microsoft MyPhone will back all this up in a couple of minutes, and after the flash you can re-download them.
After that all that's left to do is add in all your little shortcuts to the People Tab and Internet Quicklinks etc
Job complete
The flashing will void your warranty, but you can return to how the phone was in a couple of minutes, thus getting your warranty back, i'll explain
To flash your phone, you will download a little program from the first post on this forum called HSPL which modifies the bootloader of the phone allowing you to install any ROM you want
If you send your phone off for repair, the first thing these people check is your SPL, if they see it has been changed to HSPL they will not repair your phone. But by flashing your phone with the original tmobile rom that came with the phone (downloaded from the second post on this forum) through the microSD card will restore the SPL and your original ROM, voila your warranty is restored
To flash your phone, you will download a program called CustomRUU and a .nbh file, put these both into the same folder and connect your phone by USB to your computer, do not flash through the microSDcard unless you are trying to restore your warranty because this will change other settings on the phone, unlike the USB method will simply install the new ROM. Connect your phone through Active Sync, then run CustomRUU and follow the instructions
Your phone will then install the ROM
Hard reset (As soon as you turn the phone on, hold down VolUp and VolDown)
Your phone will now be nice and fresh with your new awesome ROM
Hope this helps, it's much easier than it sounds, follow the sticky threads for installing a Custom ROm and HSPL for more detailed info
Oh and let's not forget the advantages of this
Instead of that crappy Web'N'Walk you will have Opera
You will have the YouTube app
You will have more freedom and a MUCH MUCH MUCH more stable and fast ROM
cgrec92,
I can not thank you enough for taking the time to give advice. I'm thinking of installing EnergyROM....what made you chose artemis?
no problem mate, ive been in your situation not a couple of weeks ago
flashing is the best thing you can do for your phone in my opinion
and after a bit of flashing you can familiarize yourself with the MTTY process and make the process even faster!
energy rom is very good, its one of the best out there, I have however heard there are some issues with fast battery drain? but above all its a very good rom
i use artemis 5.5 because it is almost identical to the original rom that comes with the phone, with tweaks to make it more stable, MUCH faster and smoother, everything updated, has a document reader tab, in my opinion it's the most stable
I have been using for some 5 days now and have found NO bugs whatsoever
as opposed to the odd 80 bugs in the tmobile ROM
its all a matter of taste my friend, if you dont like the energy rom, install another one!
theyre all being constantly updated with the latest updates, builds, and tweaks
flashing is fun!
oh and I forgot to add that some custom ROM's require a specific radio and this must be flashed before the ROM is installed, this is dead simple and takes half a minute
let me explain
a radio is a piece of software which controls communications such as phone calls, text messaging, 3G, internet etc. different radios have different effects, for example better signal, better battery life, better data handling
if i remember correctly the t-mobile rom comes with radio v 2.04
at the moment there is a radio v 2.08 again it's a matter of preference, find which one gives you the best signal and battery life!
to install is simple, the radio comes in a .nbh aswell, usually about 25mb which is very small
just like installing a ROM, put this .nbh in the same folder as the CustomRUU and flash the radio using CustomRUU, just like flashing a ROM!
you will not need to do a hard reset, when the phone restarts your new radio will be installed and ready to use
I guess i'm going to become a flasher now!
Thank you for advice. i'll post any further questions in ROM forum after i decide which Rom to go with.
thank you.
HI,
agreed I have a t-mobile hd2 and it's the best option flash a new rom, also I sent my phone back under warranty and fwas ully fixed no quible just had to back out the hpsl as pointed out earlier in this thread it all works...
thanks daveyg99,
i guess you both know its a big decision to make your 1st flash.....gulp...brave pill taken.....just chosing radio and rom now.........
good man
any problems just post back on xda youll get answers within a couple minutes
sorry cgrec92,
question......im looking at HSPL......it says check spl version is 1.42.0000 check by holding volume down button and reset....
how do i do this?
turn your phone off
press the button to turn your phone back on again but hold down the VolDown button
it'll bring you to a 4-coloured screen with a bit of text
it should say spl 1.42.0000
take the battery out and put it back in and turn your phone back on normally
job done
thanks done it....1.42..ok.. I hadn't turned the phone off first doh!
hspl done
great work
now all you have to do is choose your ROM
ok going for energyROM 21892 with cookie...the more stable one......dl now......42min left...
good choice my friend
the download file will include a .nbh file, make sure to rename this file as RUU_Signed.nbh if it hasn't been done so already
the download might include a CustomRUU which will be used to flash the ROM
if it doesnt then this can be downloaded from the sticky threads aswell
let us know how it goes
Hello.
This is my first post, so please be kind to me!
I've spent the past few weeks trying to get my head around what to do in order to flash my HD2 which is on the t_mobile network
The original rom 1.43 i think is driving me crazy and I now dont care if I change the rom and it invalidates the warenty!
In order to HSPL I need to SPL first, but will my device allow this?
I've read through so many threads that I am completely confused and dont know which way to turn, never mind which thread to re-read.
Can someone point me to the sspl, HSPL to upgrade to 1.66
Thanks
Glyn
oh its the 512 version
you are over confusing yourself.
download hspl 2
instal it - choose whichever hspl you like (may as well go for 2.08.hspl)
flash whatever rom you like from usb. (don't forget to flash a compatible radio either before or straight after.)
Thanks for your reply......
so downloan the HSPL from here?
'forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477'
and as I run the program I'll get the option of which version to install?
What should I look for to make sure that the radio is compatible with the rom?
Thanks again and sorry for my ignorance
Glyn
best thing you can do is to read a lot. No need to do enerything in one mad dash.
get HSPL2 from HERE - end of the first post (but read the post, dont just skip to download, )
run it as administrator (right click, run as administrator)
for best results use a usb port on the back of your PC (i.e one directly on teh motherboard, not an external usb slot) it will ask what version you want to install. just go for 2.08.hspl (not 2.08.0000) and let it do its thing. the authors say you should match the version to the rom (so 1.43.hspl for roms that are 1.43 or 1.48, 1.66.HSPL for 1.6 based roms, etc, but it isn't critical, most will run on any HSPL, so dont go changing every time you flash a new rom, no need. If it doesnt work then change it.)
As for radio tips, a radio with .51. in the number, (eg 2.09.51.03) will NOT work with any rom that has the 576meg ram, enabled.
If you flash a rom and all you get when you restart is a grey screen, chances are the radio doesnt match. Boot to bootloader and flash the radio.
But most of all, read stuff.
What about shipped rom's that are .exe files? Do they include radios with it? Also, is there a post you can point me to that has a list of compatible radios with different rom's?
that's where reading comes in. the whole process has so many variants that there is no simple "a b c" that covers everything.
yes the exe includes radio (and also spl if you use sd card to flash -stay away from sd card, use usb and if anything goes wrong you just boot to bootloader and re flash)
the chefs give you all the infoyou need in the first couple of posts. the sticky threads in the rom development section will tell you how to do everything, and any problem you encounter has beenwritten about already. so read, search and read.
I suggest you flash Stock WWE 1.66 ROM first so you can have a feel of how much improvement
has been done from 1.43
you can download it in HTC website.
Thanks for your help so far..
I would like to go for the 1.66 official ROM first, so I'll find that on here first and find the exe file so I dont have to mess about with compatible radio's.
Just before I HSPL it, I would like a copy of the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM, so better get searching.
Thanks again
Glyn
the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM is on HTCs website so get it from there as a backup
THANKYOU!!
Thankyou so much for your help and guidance.
Last night I decided to just do it - the phone was so poor I couldn't take it anymore.
3 hours from start of backing up, to installing HSPL2, to flashing with 1.66, anf then restoring data
I cant believe the transformation - I am so pleased I didnt throw it at a wall!!!
So a massive thanks to the members of this community
im in the same boat... got a stock uk hd2 on tmobile and wasn't to flash a new rom but the information is overwhelming and im scared I will flash a wrong rom and kill my phone :0)

theres nothing to it. the 'normal' hd2 which you do have, is about the safest phone to flash in the world today, with HSPL2. The 'radios killing phones' problem that started last week is specific to the t mobile US model only, , the one with 1 gig rom.
If you install HSPL on your phone, and then only flash over USB, the very worst that will happen (from a software point of view) is that the phone stops at a grey screen, and/or only boots into bootloader, so you boot into bootloader, you flash something else, and it's fixed.
The T Mo UK stock rom is available to download as backup, (as is o2 and voda for anyone looking) in the 'LEO official roms' thread in rom development, first post, first link, first folder (1.43)
At any time, you can flash that rom from sd card (look it up if you need to) and restore everything, spl, radio and rom, , to factory settings.
In all honesty, so long as you are careful, methodical, don't pull out USB cables halfway through, laptop battery dies, etc , then you are more likely to get bricked from some freak incident, like , umm, battery dieing, heh.
Fear not! be smart, be careful, try to understand what you are doing and why at each step, read up on what an spl is, and the job is , as they say, sorted.

Hi Samsamuel,
Thanks.. just one more thing.
Saw on youtube that i have to format my SC card
youtube.com/watch?v=nrmlqrfCvas[/url]
is this so and is this referring to the sd card in the HTC or my own sd card used to download the 1.66 onto?
regards

PS. why won't this forum allow me to send you a PM?.. i can't send any msg's at all.
Folks,
HD2 from Telstra ( 2nd May ) running 1.66. Tried flashing it with 1.48 and 1.43 Rom's -- so I could then go to HSPL and a custom Rom, but no luck.
The Rom Update Utility starts and tells me I have image version 1.72.841.0, I click to update to 1.43.405.1 ( or 1.48 - have tried both ), then the 4 colour screen which notes 1.66. Then it goes to a HTC screen with a deployment bar, gets to only 1%.......then boom - error 294 invalid vendor id.......
What am I missing here ??
you need to flash thedowngrade from sd card, then you can hspl, and THEN flash from usb
At least your effort got that far.... i couldnt even see the zip open.
OS 5.2.21869
Manila 2.5.20121431.1
Rom 1.72.841.0
If someone can confirm what I need to do with what i'd REALLY appreciate it.
Have the backup rom just incase already.
you missed out all the important info.
what zip can't you open? what phone? what you trying to achieve?
assuming telstra like the op,
1 right click the telstra 1.4 rom .exe choose unzip here, or extract here
2 find ruu signed.nbh copy it to sd card rename it leoimg.nbh
3 phone off hold vol down, tap and release power, keep holding voldown till you see three coloured screen, should quickly change grey and start a card flash.
4 when complete and phone restarts hold vol down to re enter bootloader
5 run hspl as administrator using a usb port round the back of the pc,
6 when it completes, and phone reboots, enter bootloader yet again, and check that it says spl 1.42.hspl.
now, so long as you don't sd card flash hspl will stay and protect against bad flashes, flash what you like.

What 1.48 and 1.43 roms did you try? They need to be Telstra roms, as you can't just use any 1.48 or 1.43 rom and this is what is causing the invalid vendor id error. Once you are back to 1.42.0000 spl (after flashing a telstra rom) you can then run hspl and are then free to flash what ever your heart desires.
I have a Telstra HD2 as well (1.66)...got it recently and will flash it soon.
I don't understand the original poster's concern - why go through all that to flash HSPL, when apparently HSPL2 can be easily flashed over 1.66...which allows you to further flash any ROM ??? Is there a benefit of HSPL over HSPL2 that I am missing?
Thanks in advance
edit: my bad, just read in the HSPL thread that HSPL2 does not work with the telstra hd2.

keep reading, you still have lots to learn, hspl2 doesn't work on telstra.
Oh, my spl is 1.66.0000
I understand I must use HSPL (not HSPL2) on a Telstra ph. but can anyone recommend which rom to use? I've been reading for two days solid and can't decide!
I've copied all the guides etc so hopefully won't have a prob'... am just worried about warranty protection etc if it all goes pear shaped... i just want all this B.S. bloatware OFF MY phone!!!
Thanx in advance once again
I am in the same position, my Telstra ROM is 1.72 running SPL 1.66.0000.
HSPL utility tells me that "Model ID is invalid" or something like that.
okay, one more time.....
only the original hspl works on telstra,
hspl2 does not work. (bad model ID)
you need to downgrade to a 1.4 rom with spl 1.42.0000.
so, get the original telstra 1.49.8xx rom from HERE (registration required)
when its downloaded, move it to its own folder somewhere, then right click the .exe file and choose extract here. (if that option isnt available, install winrar)
when it has extracted, find teh file RUU_Signed.nbh, copy it to your sd card and rename it leoimg.nbh
restart your phone in bootloader mode, it should detect the leoimg.nbh and start to flash
this will reset your spl to 1.42.0000 and now you can use HSPL, and then flash any rom you like.
Thanks for the link to HTCpedia mate. I'd actually just found it myself by performing a thread search on the "Official HTC ROM's" thread. Downloading now.
Stupidly I've had problems after problems trying to get HSPL on my device. I actually started out on this ROM (1.49.x with SPL 1.42.0000). First I tried flashing from my Vista x64 machine, both HSPL2 and HSPL with errors, in my haste I thought I might need update to the latest Telstra ROM 1.72.x with SPL 1.66.0000 so I could use HSPL2 when in actual fact I just had the x64 USB driver problem, of course then the upgrade still didn't allow me to flash and made my situation harder as I had to find this original ROM again to downgrade.
Anyways I hope this works!
It works!
- flash rom back to 1.49.x with SPL 1.42.0000
- run HSPL with device connected via USB
- flash radio using CustomRUU
- flash ROM using CustomRUU
@rainey06au what Radio do you use with your Telstra HD2?
Got my Telstra HD2 running 1.49 last week and it's my first play with Windows Mobile .. couldn't wait to clear the Telstra image from the phone as my provider is Three.
Did plenty of reading and all the posts said to use the original HSPL first, this worked perfect first go.
Once done I tried the new Artemis_v110 rom, was very impressed except experienced 2 to 3 random reboots a day, even more while in YouTube player. Everything else woked well, reception, battery life, and clarity while on calls.
Decided yesterday to try another rom, first cleared all using Task29 format, then loaded HyperROM Ultimate v9.00 WM6.5.X but this didn't get through the first boot .. possibly due to radio required.
Now have flashed back to 1.48.4052 until I research some more.
Anyone recommend a rom and suitable radio for the Telstra HD2, anyone with Three?
Thankx
Thanks. Works a treat!
I knew I had to downgrade but couldn't find an old Telstra ROM.

I am also using Telstra HD2 and recently flashed it with Miri Rom. I like Miri because it doesn't have any customization. It has many versions to choose from, with and without Sense UI. It also retain all the original WM icons and themes which I like.
But like all ROMs, I do experience reboot but only once so far with the new version of Miri v17. One thing to note is the Radio version for the ROM. Make sure you flash the exact correct radio version, down to the sub version, e.g. 2.07.50 is recommended for Miri and not 2.07.51 (which is the Telstra radio version).
Another advise is always flash from pc, not SD card as I have experienced bad flash using SD card.
Hope this helps. Miri is only available from the HTCPedia site.
Yep my radio version is also 2.07.50. I get good battery life out of it using CleanEX_UDT HyperROM Ultra v9.00 (6.5).
I use Lia Glass ROM and FallOut Theme.
Interestingly this ROM and radio has only unlocked 455.54MB RAM, not the full 576MB. There are threads about this and getting the right combo will unlock the remaining RAM and/or improve battery performance.
I am using Radio 2.08.50.05.
Anyone else have the same experience?

look in settings about phone hardware info ram size.
I bet it says 576
that's cos the hardware takes 128 for graphics.
look st a standard rom and hardware will show 448 whilst total available will show 336
Thanks samsamuel.
Hardware info does in fact say 576MB RAM
Thanks for the explanation - slowly but surely getting my head around the intricacies of the device

HOW TO INSTALL HSPL
NOTE:To install this HSPL there must be SPL 1.42.0000 on your device. Otherwise the installation will fail! To check your SPL version, hold the Volume Down button and do a reset.
It is possible to downgrade to this SPL, by just flashing to an Official ROM with this SPL version.
1. Download HardSPL package from http://www.mediafire.com/?44nvdoc45zykmen and extract to an empty folder
2. Synch Phone with PC in Windows Mobile!!! It has to be connected to activesync or WMDC via USB cable
3. Run HSPL3_PKG.exe from your pc and read all the text carefully
4. When finished reading click next in the HardSPL program
5. The program will now check the usb connection and enter bootloader screen (tri colour)
*You can select between SPL2.08.0000 or 2.08.HSPL. This is to avoid people with 1024LEO's installing an incompatable version and bricking their device*
6. Select 2.08.HSPL for HardSPL and click NEXT.
7. Your choice will be flashed to your phone.
8. When its finished the HardSPL program will pop up a box saying "Successfully Done" and the phone will reboot.
9. Click ok to terminate program.
10. Congrats, you just flashed HardSPL.

Thx. Nice guide, worked perfecly for being the first time flasher
Only have the problem that i cant connect with my 3g.

Many sd cards are not recognised/compatible with WP7. You'll see a thread in this forum dealing with the compatibility issue and trying to identify which sd card types do work.

That's right you need to get a Windows live activation code from MS. There is a hack that needs to be applied to "trick" the market into thinking the device is an HD7, but you still will need the activation code. See here

Do you have hspl of 2.08.hspl or 2.08.0000. You need the hspl bit at the end. Also do you have a 50 series radio of at least 2.08.50 installed?

You will need to manually enter your APN details.

I bought my HD2 after having the Desire and I got hold of the network unlock key so was free to use any network. As i'm on Three I updated with a Generic ROM and all was fine for around a week and then I got the White Screen but a Soft Reset got me back running.
Now my ROM will load but the phone is so slow I dont know how to get it back to speed. Ive put the stock T Mobile ROM back on but this does not help.
What Can I do? I think after reading that it may be a radio issue but im not that clued up here so thought i'd ask at XDA whichg ive been using for years.
If I could send it to someone to get sorted out that would be easier and i'd cover the costs,m postage and the drink for dong it.
Any advice or takers please?
Regards
Jay

The unlock key applies to the phone, not the ROM. So I would flash a new ROM. You don't mention if yours is US or Euro model, it makes a difference when flashing.
could the problem be 3.14 ROM on non 3.03 spl?
enter bootloader, what does it say on the spl line?
what version ROM is running?

Not sure what the radio is as included with the ROM
Please help. Ive tried all types of ROMS etc and im sure its just an issue of the wrong ROM & Radio.
Will install the ROM but will just loop on first install even if i reset throughout
Liuke I said before if I could send to someone to fix it I would be most grateful.
The stock rom would be fine but would prefer the unbranded if posssible
Many thanks

NRG ROMS don't contain radios. You need to visit the first page, where they recommend radios.
I would suggest downloading the official ROM for your HD2 serial number from the HTC website. Then flash that from the SD card. This will put everything, including the radio, back on the device. Then you can go from there.
Many thanks for all the answers but their not helping unfortunately. I installed ther following a Laurentius26 ROM with the following radio 2.12.5.02_2 amd finally the phone booted up after a few hours and I could slowly make my way round the phone. To press the window key would take atleast 30 seconds top bring a response. I dont know what Is causing this and it seems like the wrong ROM & Radio is on as the phone used to fly on tjhe stock ROM.
Ive tried to reinstall the Tmobile ROM but it's just the same either way and any other ROM I try does the same.4
Is there anyway of cleaning off everything from the phone and starting again from scratch as it seems definantly that there is a conflict somewhere with the software.
I opened sys info on the phone when it was working and copied down the following just inase it helps.
OS Version 5.2.23148(23418.5.11)
Manilla Version 2.5.20212114.0
ROM Version 2.05 WWE
ROM Date 06/06/11
RADIO 2.12.5.02_2
Protocol Version 15.40.50.07U_2.12.5
Please HELP! Someone out there as i'm just about stuck and i've been playing with Smartphones since the first launch of the Orange Smartphone 10 years ago.
Many thanks in advance
Jay Kau
flash task29 THEN flash another custom ROM, this will ensure any leftover **** gets erased, you might have something in NAND carrying over from ROM to ROM, none of the current radios will slow your ROM down like you're describing.
It's either this or hardware.
also try the above with your sd card and sim removed, its not unknown for a faulty card to play havoc with performance.
I tried task 28 and it never let me press the volume down at 99% so dont know if worked. Still running slow but it is running.
Wouldnt of thought was a HW issue as it was working fine last week. If I need to return to HTC where would I do that in the UK after installing standard T Mobile ROM?
Many thanks and any further help going on Flash 28 and how to do it successfully?
Regards
Jay
sorry task 29 LOL
I attempted Task 29 but after my device went straight into loading a ROM. I thought that Task 29 removed all ROMS. Info etc so you had to reinstall. What am I doing wrong as I followed the instructions to the letter from one of the posts on this excellent site.
Am getting really annoyed now. Is there someone who could do this for me if i send and pay for return postage and a drink please?
Any further info and will try again tonight one more time
Many thanks
Jay

I know that this may sound strange, but try formatting your SD card. When my phone starts behaving badly, fully formatting the SD solved the problem. Checking it for system file errors usually gives the same results, but doing a full format using the SD card formatter at first gives better results.
you probably have a ROM loaded in your SD card.
if your SD card root has a file called LEOIMG.NBH then it will try to flash it immediately on booting the phone, it's part of the SPL instructions. Delete or rename that file or cancel the flash.

I you mean me, no I don't flash through SD. but that's a good advice as well.
when the SD has severe System file errors, I noticed that my phone ran extremely slow. correcting those errors made my phone return to it's snappy self.
