Unfortunately it doesn't work on Sense UI:
Even if you ignore the warning and put your text in, nothing will ever show up on the lock screen.
Is there another app that does something similar and works with Sense UI?
I have Antivirus (free) installed from the Market. The programme includes a lock-screen text.

Just installed it.
I see a "Lost Message" but nowhere to put custom text on the DESIRE lock screen.
Just to clarify, do you have additional text on your DESIRE lock screen? (i.e. the leftmost picture in my signature)
First, I have to admit that I have enabled an unlock pattern (p. 195 English user manual). In Antivirus, push menu > settings > > Remote > FindeR and Remote > Lost Message: You can insert the text you wish (like your Arthur Dent details). The info is then visible on the unlock pattern screen, right between your leftmost screen and the home screen.
I too would like something like this, would be even better if could also show calendar events/appointments for the coming week

Ahhh, no wonder!
I don't use the unlock pattern so I never saw it.
I'm looking for a way to put text (my name etc) on the initial screen, when you turn on the phone (like the Contact Owner app shows).
Does anyone know of a way?

hey guys, ive had my nexus for a while, but i switched over from an iphone and on the iphone there was a plug in called sb settings which allowed you to swipe your finger across the status bar and a small control panel would drop down giving you options to dim your screen, turn wifi and other toggles on and off, and gave you your system info all without having to leave the current app you were on. i was wondering if there is such a thing for android, where you have a control panel in the notification drawer.?

A free app called 'Bar Control' will let you put shortcuts in the notification bar.
I use this with 'Switches', a paid toggling app, and a free app 'Wifi Status' (that warns you if you have wifi on but no connection to a network).
HTH
Quick Settings free on the market will also do this. Nice little program I use it every day.

+1, works great (although it could do with a UI uplift).

exactly what i was looking for. works great. thankss. itd be cool if the led flash was supported for nexus. but it gets the job done.
It would be good, I'm stock so not sure if LED torch works with root.
the led torch app for the N1 defenitely requires root
this is a new lock screen it was not made by anyone on xda but it looks pretty cool you can have a windows 7 lock screen or you can even make your lock screen a home page check it out.

Looks cool. People may not try it out though because it's not free, though it does have a demo. I'll give it a try.
*edit*
i've been playing around with this for about an hour now. I like it. damn I might even buy it after the 10 day trial.
Be careful with Pocket Shield.
There is an issue:
If you uninstall the application, you will lost the HTC dialer and get the ugly Wimo dialer.
There is no solution unless doing a hard reset !

Hey who told you that? You just need to change the dialer at PocketShield settings --> Phone tab --> Protect touch screen --> + --> Use standard dialer.
No need to hardreset!
I can also recommend Pocketshield. In fact I have made some skins for it, this is my latest and coolest: http://jdbp.mobi/phorum/read.php?6,10101 and I am so happy they chose it to be the default skin after installing
So after trying it for a few days I uninstalled it. It's nice & all, but I don't like my lockscreen being enabled any time i turn off the display on my HD2. If they'd implement it so that it'd only every be enabled when I press the shield quicklink, I'd probably buy it. I do see in the registry that they disable the lockscreen from being on auto, so I'm guessing it's just part of the program.
I'll stick with the lockscreen in CHT.

I've uninstalled & have had no issues with my phone.
This is not my app, but it's a great find and I just thought I would share
Screen Off and Lock
Let's you lock the screen (turn it off) via a long press of the search button. Although there is NO widget, the app icon can be placed onto the home screen or a dock and essentially does the same exact thing.
So far it's working wonders for me, and is an awesome combination with Track Pad Wake.
If you like the app be sure to give it 5 stars and if your feeling generous buy the donate version. Links are provided below if your interested
NOTE: **Before you can UNINSTALL this app, please go to "Setting > Location and Security > Select device administrators" and then uncheck "Screen Off and Lock"**

Sounds good! Will try it out...
Like the voice commands more than something like this. Can't have another program taking over my long press on the search button. Plus a long press takes as much time as just hitting the power button on top.

I've been using this app for a few months now, and I have to say it's a great compliment to the trackpad. No longer do I have to rely solely on the power button to lock the phone. I actually configured the clock portion of Beautiful Widgets to run this screen lock application, so I don't have to have another shortcut on my home screen. It's simply hidden within the BW clock.
PS - Shouldn't this thread be in the apps/themes section?

Hi there!
Today I have a guide that will be very useful for anyone who has a small-to-medium aged child that they do not want using the Nook Touch's well-known hidden web browser (accessible by going into Settings > Social > Link to Facebook, Twitter and Google > Need help? > Google Home). I have come across a way to disable access to the entire Social settings menu, as well as 99% of the Shop settings menu. The best part is, you can do it without root access! :good:
The steps are very simple, but just for clarification, I have included screenshots in [hide][/hide] tags.
DISCLAIMER - I am sorry about the fact that I have edited my framework-res.apk, and therefore the user interface in the screenshots looks different than yours will. :|
Steps:
1. Go into the Settings menu by pressing the "n" button and hitting "Settings".
2. Tap on "Screen".
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. While in the "Screen" settings menu, hold down the top right hardware button (a.k.a page turn button) and tap on the little "Screen" header at the top of the window.
4. A new setting will appear underneath the "Screen" settings, which is labelled "Demo Mode". There will be a small, unchecked box on the far right of that new setting. Tap on that box - a check mark will appear in it.
5. That's all there is to it! As seen in the screenshots below, the "Social" option in the main Settings screen is completely grayed-out and inaccessible, as well as 4 out of 5 of the options in the "Shop" settings menu being grayed-out and disabled, too.
To re-enable these functions, all you have to do is go back into the "Screen" settings menu, hold the top right hardware button, tap on the "Screen" header, and uncheck the little box.
I hope this helps all of you people who want to prevent their little ones from accessing the Internet, as well as change the Shop settings.
Have a nice day,
thenookieforlife3
Surprisingly enough I could not find this issue when using the search function. (maybe it is my search capabilities )
Just started using my S5 last week. Now when I touch the home button I get the message to use touchwiz-start.
When I press always (picture says "altijd") it looks like it does not safe this default.

It works for an hour or so, and then it is reset so I get this message again when I press the home button.
Searching for this it looks like a lot of people have this issue, but I do not see a working resolution.

Give this a try
Settings > Applications > Application Manager scroll across the screen to All, then scroll down to Touchwiz, you will see Touchwiz Home Easy and Touchwiz Home, check in both apps and if the options are not grayed out tap clear Cache and Clear Defaults, don’t clear Data as that will wipe home screen shortcuts and set up.
Press the back button to get to your Settings > Application screen and tap Default Applications then tap Home and Select Touchwiz Home, once selected press the back button twice to get to the Settings > Application screen then press and hold the Power button and select Restart.
If its cleared all the default data and reset it then your phone should boot into the default Touchwiz home screen, this should work, if it doesn’t then you have an app or something that is causing it so look at what you have updated or installed recently.

Well actually this triggered me to analyse some recent updates I did, and then I saw one app where somebody reported that it was trying to install itself as a touchwizz app. I deinstalled it et voila, problem solved.
I notified the creator of the app that the recent update he delivered is causing this problem.
So thanks for your input, it triggered me to look a bit deeper into the installed apps and solve this problem.
