OOOPS... I meant what is the functionality of a LOCKED Wing without a Tmobile SIM card or with a different foreign SIM card.
In case I cannot get mine unlocked in the first 90 days, can I still use the Wing for things other then making calls?
What happens if a different SIM card is put into a TMobile locked device.
Thanks!
Could someone please tell me if a Wing starts up without a SIM card in it...
If you could just try to turn it on without the SIM and tell me the results I would be very happy...
Or with a SIM other then TMobile on a locked Wing...
Just in case I have to wait for 90 days to have it unlocked from Tmobile to use in Europe.
Thank You!
Mine works. I just took the SIM out and restarted. the phone application came up and reported that the SIM was missing, but I was able to close it and access all of the other functionality.
Does that help?
qwkynuf
Yes, it helps perfectly, since now I know that I could still use the phone and wifi, etc, even before it is unlocked which might take a while.
Thank you very much!
Hi all, I'm new here and before I tell you the problem, I appreciate all the info on these forums and the work that is put into everything. Thank you in advance.
So, I have a locked Rogers branded X10a, and I was unable to get the SIM unlock pin. So, I got the network unlock code, but whatever sim I put in, the screen always reads "no sim card" in the phone and then the activating screen loads and continues to load forever. Under settings (without a sim in the phone), there is the option for sim unlock pin, but that is the code that I am unable to get after numerous tries on different sites.
How can I get to the screen to enter the sim network unlock code if the phone in not recognizing any sim cards that I put in? Btw, I'm using AT&T. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the length of this post and thank you.
I had similar issue my w580i. I had it after putting the unlocking code it stop recoganising SIM, havn't solution till now
Did you try using a different Rogers sim?
I don't have a rogers SIM, only AT&T. I bought the phone locked and just figured I would be able to get an unlock code like all the other phones I've had before, but no dice.
Check your pm
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
I just tried to put in my deactivated Rogers SIM card from long time ago, and I am also getting "No SIM Card" ... Not sure if your problem has anything to do with Rogers Wireless used to be "Rogers AT&T" before
If you have any friends has SIM card from different carriers, try to put those in and see if you experience "No SIM Card" issue.
Regards
Mabye it does.. I'll try and find someone with a Tmobile sim I guess.. thanks for the advice though..
Please keep me updated on this, I'm trying to unlock my X10, I got the code from cellunlock.net through the manufacturer and keeps telling me after I enter the code that it was unsuccessful.
I still can't unlock my phone either but I'm not sure about the SIM unlock code you're talking about. Are you talking about the IMEI? or the actual code that's used to unlock the phone? I've tried Mobileincanada.com but they couldn't unlock my phone and gave me a refund and I'm still waiting for this dealer on ebay. Good luck dude, keep us posted

Got an unlock code, www.cellunlock.net
Make sure to pick the Sony Ericsson Manufacturer code it's 34.99 but well worth it. It works now.
the manufacturer unlock code is the one I got, but I just don't get the option to put it in because the phone doesn't recognize the AT&T sims that I've put into it...

How old are the sim cards? If they are old, get new ones. Also, try re-installing the firmware through seus and then putting in your sim card. I never had that issue, I just had a hard time finding the code.
I had a real old one from cingular, but then I just went to AT&T and got a brand new one, but same issue. I'll try updating and see if that helps, but will the phone update without a valid sim inserted?

I had that same problem. Call AT&T or go to your AT&T account online and get the PUK number. Also, did you call AT&T and told them you have a new phone? They need your phone's new IMEI number.

I'm sorry, what is the PUK number for and also, why does AT&T need my IMEI number? I mean, the phone is still locked to rogers right now regardless, right?
Lots of noob questions, sorry.
Also, i already spoke to AT&T, Rogers and Sony Ericsson about the issue, but none of them are any help of course. The PUK did nothing for me either. I feel like I am running out of options here...
welcome to the club

so far no solution
So, I tried repairing through PC Companion and then I also ran the update and go the newest firmware installed now, but still same problem. Phone does not recognize the AT&T when inserted and therefore, no option to enter the network unlock code. Any others have any luck/make any progress??
wow... i guess i'm in the club as well. I just got back from the Rogers store and they wouldn't let me replace the phone anymore. I've bought the manufacturer's code which is suppose to work 100% but it didn't...so desperate
Sorry to hear that...
You said the code you got didn't work? In what way? did you try to get a refund by providing video evidence?
On a side note, does anyone know how to access a keypad on the x10 that enables you to imput the left arrow, *, * left arrow method to input the code? I realize I need to have a valid rogers sim inserted in order for this to work, but I do not see how to input the arrow keys. Any suggestions? As I've said, I'm new to android and to a device with no physical keyboard, so maybe this is very simple...
thanks and good luck to others in the same spot as me right now..
Hello all, I bought a used HD2 off CL (USA), hoping to unlock it (if locked) and use it with my ATT prepaid sim.
Outwardly, the phone looks fine and everything about it works quite nicely, EXCEPT that when I insert my SIM card and start the phone, it shows me an exclamation mark on the antenna icon. When I disable all wireless connections and then re-enable it, the icon now changes to the SIM card icon with an 'x' next to it, and I am shown a screen with a keypad and the following message: 'The SIM card is missing. You can still make emergency calls if your service provider supports it.'
Thinking it was a ROM issue, I successfully loaded the latest ROM from [showthread.php?t=789506] but it did not resolve the issue. There is no issue with the SIM because it works nicely with my AT&T Samsung a607. There are no signal strength issues either.
Please help!
Can someone please provide some insight on my situation? I hope I haven't posted in the wrong forum; if so, mods may move it to the appropriate place.
Any advice on diagnosing the issue will be appreciated; I don't even know why the phone is acting the way it is. Many thanks!
Wait a moment, so your device isnt already SIM unlocked? Sounds to me like you need to go ahead and get an unlock code for it, then navigate to the \Windows folder and hit up the program called "simlock.exe" and input your unlock code, then try your ATT SIM again.
Thanks much for the reply. Other phones usually prompt for a SIM unlock code by themselves... why doesn't this one?
Running simlock.exe from Windows does give me the message "Network is locked, please input unlock code". Before I buy the code, I want to make sure that there's nothing physically wrong with the phone. It should give me at least *some* sign that my SIM is being recognized, but rejected due to network-locking, no?
Thanks again!
See thats the thing. With a foreign SIM card in the device, IF LOCKED, simlock.exe should run automatically on startup and ask for the code....so honestly I do not know if your device is messed up somehow, or if its just being wonky for the sake of being wonky. Perhaps you might want to flash a new Radio ROM and see if it then recognizes your SIM. BE SURE to NOT flash one with .51 in its name.
Thanks again. Can you point to a thread with detailed instructions for flashing a new radio ROM for my device? I found many threads while searching and I am confused. I don't want to choose the wrong instructions and brick this device; I haven't done anything of this sort before.
Look at the top of these forums for a stickie by Snarksneeze that will teach you everything you need to know.
Hi again... I don't have a spare 8GB MicroSD card lying around. Is there any way I can do this flashing over USB? I did read that there's a risk associated with flashing over USB (cable yanks, power loss, etc.) but I did flash the newest ROM without any issue, and hopefully I can do the same for the new Radio ROM.
The Radio version shown in the 'About Phone' section is 2.14.50.04, btw.
You can use your 16GB that came with the phone, or any other one for that matter. That requirement is more of a recomendation really. I have flashed with my stock 16GB many times. And yes, you can do it via USB aswell.
OK, so I have more information about the problem. I got the phone unlocked (I heartily recommend 'fastunlocker' on eBay) thinking that it would solve the issue... but it didn't. But, on a lark, I tried my friend's post-paid T-Mobile SIM in the HD2 and it worked! My AT&T pre-paid SIM does not... can this be a problem? The damn thing works nicely in other (unlocked) phones.
Is anyone else successfully using a AT&T GoPhone (prepaid) SIM on a TMOUS HTC HD2?
It may very well be the problem then. I have heard that some phones are incompatible with pre-paid SIMs.
God, that would suck donkeyballs. Can someone confirm that an unlocked TMOUS HD2 does not work with AT&T GoPhone prepaid SIMs?
had this same exact issue and realized that one of the pins in the sim card reader was stuck in the down position. I poked it with a small screwdriver and it popped back into place. works like a charm now.
Thanks for the reply. Are you sure this is the issue? As I mentioned in a previous post in this thread, my friend's T-Mobile SIM works nicely with the phone.
EDIT: Also, are you using it with an AT&T GoPhone SIM?
Bump... anyone?
Final bump: maybe I am SOL. :'(
Is anyone successfully using a TMOUS HD2 with an AT&T Prepaid (GoPhone) SIM?
Give it some time. Sometimes threads at XDA stay dormant for months and then suddenly BAM! a breakthrough happens.
I would say its your sim. How old is it?
I had the exact same problem. I bought a HD2 off cl and put my sim in and got the no sim message and exclamation point. I was using a sim from the voicesteam days but guess what it worked just fine in the Nexus one I had just gotten so I figured it had to be the phone. I finally used a friends sim and it worked fine. So I would turn the phone off in settings then slip his sim out with the battery still in and put my sim in and turn the phone back on. Guess what, it would work for about 10 min then it would suddenly go back to no sim message. So I went and got a new sim from T-Mobile and walla works like a charm. So try what I did and if you end up with the same problem try a new sim from AT&T. I don't know what is different about the HD2 but there something about the older sims that it doesn't like.
Hope that helps!
Hey... thanks for ther reply! My SIM is brand new (about two weeks old). I will however go to the AT&T store and get it replaced to see if it fixes the problem. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
Dear look my problem...

Tmobile sent me the unlock code for the HD2 today. I cant figure out where to enter it. Any Ideas??? I would try and figure this out but I need to do it quick any help would be appriciated!!!!!!
Thanks.

Have you inserted a a different sim card other than the tmobile sim card. Try inserting a sim card from AT&T from one of your friends that will make the phone not recognized the sim and ask you for the unlock code. Good Luck.
Either that or use the File Explorer on your phone to navigate to the \Windows folder, then once there, scroll down and run the program called "simlock.exe" and input the code to unlock your phone.
Tried the sim unlock. It took the code not sure if its unlocked or not. I ran down to wal mart and picked up a tracfone but that sim will not register. I guess I wasted 10 bucks.
Stingerrray
you have to put in a sim card from another carrier, if the phone is locked, you will get the sim lock screen where you can input the code, if it is unlocked then you won't even see the sim lock screen.
It probably didn't register the tracfone sim because it isn't activated
Ya I activated the tracfone sim but it shows no connection when I turn on phone.
It's the current thought that the HD2 doesn't support pre-paid SIMs from any carrier other than T-Mobile for whatever reason...SIM unlocked or not. Try an ATT SIM if you can and see what it does. If the SIMlock.exe program took the unlock code and didn't throw an error, then you are more than likely SIM unlocked.
Yes it did do that. A message box came up that it took the unlock code so I guess its OK.
Thanks,
Robert
BTW I tried to run the sim unlock program again and it would not run so I guess thats a good sign. What do you think?
Correct, if your device is succesfully unlocked, the simlock.exe program will cease to run.
Thanks, You have been the greatest of help.

Well if you got it to work then disregard the rest of this post, Im pretty sure tracofone runs off a diffrent type of network just like boostmobile which uses sim cards but runs of igen network not gsm and if thats the case it wont work with your phone.
Tracfone Sim Card only work on tracfone phones since they require porperiary software to read your account and display it... So thats why it wont connect since it requres the tacfone software whitch is not avaible to the public and woudn't work on anyother phone
Yesterday I upgraded to a gs3 which came with a micro sim. I wanted to see if I could keep my old phone as a backup. Would the lte micro sim work in my non-lte full-sized-sim captivate/gs1?
After 3 trys i managed to properly align the micro sim in the full sized sim slot and it worked. But then the weird part. Without powering down the phone I plucked out the sim (possible because the micro sim is so small). To my surprise the phone did not give any error and both data and voice calls continued to work without a sim actually in the phone.
How was that possible? Further, what would have happened if I had booted up my new phone with the sim card that my old phone still thought it was using (I was too afraid to try)? Would both phones continue to work? Would they both ring when someone calls?
Sent from my Cyanogenmod 9 Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
any sim should work as long as its activated and its the same size.
and no they both wont work, the phone that has no sim will show "no sim" upon reboot

Perhaps I was not clear. I removed the sim without turning the phone off and it continued to work. I know it should not, but it does. That is what I am asking, how is that possible? Does the phone only check for a sim when it boots, and from then on the sim is not needed?
Then what would happen if I boot up phone #2 while phone #1 still thinks that the sim card is in it.
I'm interested, try it and let us know what happens.

I'm not an expert, but I think all the SIM provides is a string of numbers that identifies the phone with a phone number. This is most likely cached in the device while it is on and it might not need the SIM card after it has already gotten the information. This might not pertain to all phones, maybe the Galaxy S3 was programmed slightly differently.
If you power down the phone and restart without the SIM, the phone will most likely ask you for a SIM.
It is an S1/Captivate that is working without a sim. And yes, when I reboot the phone it stops working. I'm not brave enough to try both phones at the same time. That seems like something that the phone company would notice.
I tried removing the SIM from my captivate while it was running, and for a short time it still showed signal. Soon after I got a message asking to put in a SIM and restart. I don't have an LTE SIM or microSIM to test with, but it doesn't seem likely that the cappy will continue to work without one. Or at least without starting with a regular SIM.
