anyone excited about the possibilities ?
Only figures that if it's 4g capable, might as well do N too. Another reason the EVO is this year's superphone.
I noticed that too.. I wasn't sure if that was new information or not. I almost posted it.

From what I understand, Android 2.1 doesnt have a driver that supports N speeds on the chip (much like the N1). It will probably be officially enabled later in the year and enabled unofficially within days by the folks here

Yes it will, it is enabled by the 2.2 update as shown with the N1 update
pcmag.co m/article2/0,2817,2364001,00.asp
I've heard rumors that using n is generally more of a battery-hog, anyone with 2.2 using n on this or other chip confirm or deny-comment (so that users may best allocate such resources)?
The first ipods had bluetooth but it wasn't enabled until 3.0 I think. The second gen ipod can do N but they won't update it to do it.
I have N setup at my house, would be nice to bring the EVO into that. Gotta love N in a house filled with internet happy people. I'm the only one that can use N, HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry evo switched to AT&T and got an iphone so ii might release my alpha ports

sorry evo i had to let you go sprint kicked me out of my plan for roaming too much at&t gave me a great deal and i couldnt help but to try the new 4s abomonation

Bluetooth 4.0 support?

Hi,
I was wondering if some dev have implemented Bluetooth 4.0 support for our N4? I've read somewhere(SIG) that it has necessary hardware built-in. Do we have to wait for Google to officially release it?
This could be beneficial...like playing music to your car via Bluetooth while displaying music info/album cover on board/car display. ETC.
Android 4.3 apparently has support for this, so it should be coming soon.

I'st possible to port the Bluetooth 4.0 software/ Libs? Like from it's close cousin the LG Optimus G? . I really don't understand why they left out Bluetooth 4.0 support with right hardware....when they release the N4. So when will be the 4.3 coming out?. :/

Do you even have a BTv4.0 device to pair with your phone? I can't even find 3rd party stereos that have it, let alone stock car systems...
Android was late to the BT4 party and it will come in the next update. Unless your other device supports BT4, you won't see the power-saving features the protocol touts.
LG didn't develop its own BT stack for v4.0, and none of its phones have the software to support BT4. AFAIK, only HTC and Samsung were working on BT4 support, which they discontinued after the 4.3 announcement.
You could always adapt BT4 to jelly bean yourself and beat Google to the punch

I/O impressions

I cant wait for the new Chromecast features and waiting to see if Moto X gets L
Project Volta waiting for it i think moto x would get or i would flash a custom

Moto X will definetly get the Android L (probably its last update) .
The question is if we will be getting a dev preview too or just when it releases in October.

I know, but maybe companies have access to the source code.
I could only hope Motorola can make a dev preview for us too. I know it is a long shot, but I can only dream.
Regardless, all APKs will be taken out of the Nexus 5 preview and will probably work for every phone (new Gmail for exemple).

Yeah, I'm hoping too, but at least we'll have some APKs to play with. Maybe someone will ape some features via Xposed too. I love having new toys, like a brand new OS, but I am so happy with the current form of my Moto X that I won't be completely bummed if even the developer edition Moto X devices don't see a preview release.

I can't wait to use the new keyboard as well. It looked really good.
I'm waiting the moto 360 for now!!
If moto X doesn't update to the latest android L, I definetly flash a custom ROM or buy a nexus phone
I think it's quite likely that the X will get Android L when it's done, as even the Moto E is promised to get it. There will always be CyanogenMod and thelike, but I won't give up touchless controls and active notifications :/
As for the beta - Don't think so, but one can hope. Maybe kind of like motorola's soak-tests.
Punti from Motorola is on record as saying that the Moto X, G and I assume the E. ...will be supported for two years guranteed...
He even responded to one of my posts on G+ in which he confirmed it.

While I am all for new stuff. Let moto do it right. It will be ready when it is ready. Plus we get 4.4.4 soon.

No Android M for Nexus 7 2013?

http://www.techtimes.com/articles/7...xus-7-is-reportedly-not-getting-android-m.htm
Just saw this, not sure if this news is reliable but that would kind of suck..
Far from credible. Honestly if it doesn't come from Google or Android Police don't beleve it. Actually don't even trust Google just AP.
Someone sent us a tip saying “goodbye Nexus 7, no Android M for you”, and they also said they are close to the Android M development...

I can see maybe the 2012 nexus 7 being dropped from M update.

Would be bad if Google dropped support for a 1 1/2 yr old device (not looking at release date) . More fragmentation and might give Apple fanboys more to brag about .

The nexus 7 2012 is fine but if google stops updating the 2013 version I'm gonna bust their asses my Xperia Z1 from 2013 even has a chance of getting M...
atm android 5.1.1 still sucks on my N7 so I hoped that M would fix my issues!

They promised at least 18 months of updates after they stopped selling a device in the play store, iirc
Edit: here's the ap article, it looks like we might not get M

Hmm ... Not sure if Andoid M classifes as a update or as patch . IMHO its both ,since 5.1 is sluggish and tad buggy .
No updates would be bad and it sucks . One might think why invest in a expensive Nexus device when updates are so short lived . Apple fanboys might have some thing to brag about .
I'm not very concerned. Even if Google doesn't give us the update, it probably won't be very long before CyanogenMod comes out with it. I'm willing to bet that this tablet continues to get community support for another couple of years.
Without a CM Flo or deb device maintainer I doubt CM based on Android M would appear officially for us. Maybe other ROMs that have flo maintainers/devs will bring Android M to our devices after making 5.1.1 Lollipop binaries and stuff compatible with M

The only thing keeping me on Android is the ability to root, secure my devices, and retain full control of the file system - you know, administer the device. This is slowly being taken away, and when it does, I will probably jump ship. Apple makes quality hardware, and iOS isn't awful. It just doesn't give you any easy methods to truly administer the device without jumping through hoops.
In a world where you are a guest on your own device regardless of OS, Apple will come out the winner.

Besides the point you mentioned , Android does have other benefits ... But I was talking more in terms of Nexus devices . If high end devices & Nexus devices (from the google stable) dont get updates for longer , it would be crappy .No point investing in an expensive Nexus device..
If they stopped selling the N7 2013 in October 2014, 18 months of updates would end April 2016 I think.

Despite rumors circulating about the chance of official M for flo, I doubt that it will be left out. After all, Google recently announced monthly updates for a list of nexus devices that includes flo. Even if those updates came only in the form of patches for L, I'm sure unofficial support will be there. Even my old galaxy nexus has unofficially made it to the latest revision of lollipop...
I believe we will get it. It just turned 2 and its only like 3 month's older than the nexus 5. It'll be the last major update but it'll still get it. The 2 year guarantee is just that, a guarantee it doesn't mean they'll necessarily cut off devices at that point

Totally agree, 5.1.1 runs smooth on my N7 so I see no reason from a hardware perspective that the N7 shouldn't get M. I think it will be last release so lets hope its a good one.
When I bought my wife's 2013 Nexus 7, it was mid-2014 and I thought for sure it was my only chance of owning a Nexus device, living in the US. I bought it for me, but then I discovered I don't like tablets very much. Fortunately, my wife loves it, so I wiped it and made it hers.
From 4.2 to 4.3, 4.4, 5.0, and now 5.1, it's had four major updates. That's more than any Android phone I've owned has gotten. First got one, second got none, third one got three, fourth one got one so far. Samsung, Motorola, and Samsung again on US Cellular, and HTC on Verizon. All flagships but the first one. It seems to me that I really care about updates on my phones, but on the tablet, it doesn't matter. The tablet doesn't feel like a mission-critical device. It feels like a media device. Had the price gap not been so wide, I wonder if I shouldn't have just gotten an iPad. Not that the Nexus 7 is bad. I just found that a tablet didn't do anything for me. It's just a bigger screen.
If Google is going to cut Nexus updates off after just two years, that's better than a lot of OEM phones get. Though, I do wonder, why did the Nexus 4, released in 2012, get the M preview, but not flo, released in 2013? Or am I mistaken? Was the Nexus 4 abandoned as well?

M developer preview was available for the nexus 5,6 and 9, unfortunately the nexus 4 didn't make the cut, as you quite rightly said, it was released in 2012, which is a bit more than the two year update garuntee

Marshmallow hasn't been released so there is no AOSP Source made public from Google. ROMs will appear once Android 6.0 and it's Source Code is released (rumored by the end of this month)
