I am looking for a Nexus One. I am going to root it and install Cyanogen or Sense. I look at all the ads and most of these phones are going for $50-$75 under what I can get a new phone for. At this point, I say screw it and just buy the new phone. As I am waiting around for that ultimate deal, I am wondering at what price do you guys consider jumping for the used unit without warranty.
I understand that if I root, I lose my warranty, but that is why I am looking for a used one. I guess if I bought new, I would not root for a while and get a good felling that the unit I have will not have any warranty issues.
Thanks for the replies.
i seriously doubt if youll find one under $475. i know i wouldnt sell mine lower than that. i say just get a new one.

I just got one on ebay for 440 shipped from a guy in B.C. You just have to look around. I should be receiving it any day now.
I am about an hour away from getting mine for 450 off of criagslist. Soon after I verify all is good I'll take it root it, love it.
you just have to be patient and download the ebay and criaglist apps and troll there will always be deals out there. I saw a lady that had one for 400 but before we could meet some one offered her 475 for it and she dumped me.

I bought mine off craigslist, called HTC and they swapped the warranty over to me no questions asked.
less than 500 prolly.. I mean it's a new phone and people aren't selling it much at all.
Just get one =)

Somehow, I don't think you're factoring in tax.
I picked up my Nexus One for $325.00 off Craigslist. I couldn't pass up on the deal.

it should be as easy as looking up or registering the s/n or IEMI number.
I thought about used but with the AT&T version being even newer it became an even riskier venture. Outside of the rare Craigslist super bargin, $450 isn't a shocker to find. Just expect any you find to be the original T-mobile variety if it matters.

Hi All,
I need some tips and pointers on buying a htc wildfire on gumtree. The person is saying that it is brand new in box used for 2 hours.
Could you tell me some things to look out for and to check when buying second hand.
you could probably ask if the phone has been updated to 2.2.1
If you are wanting to root it or think you might at a later date you really dont want a 2.2.1

Hi, its not from a shop, the person said its was a present for his girlfriend but she never wanted it and used it for 2 hours, i think it locked to vodafone. Im not sure if i can post the link to the ad on xda, can i do that?
how much is it, if your on a different network you'll have to pay to unlock it, but it will still be loaded with voda apps that you won't be able to use, and i would imagine a vodaphone splash screen when you boot. if you do get it for a good price and its still 2.1 you could root and flash a custom rom which will get rid of preloaded bloatware. also i'm not sure if warranty is transferrable.

hes selling it for £160 but i think i can budge him down to about £20 down, What do you recon should i just buy one new?
that seems a bit excessive, they are selling over here brand new on prepaid for$299
australian, according to exchange rates about 187 quid
and i've seen as low as $260. they are locked to a carrier same as the one you are looking and also unlocked on ebay for $280. in the end of course its your call, but if you have to unlock its going to cost as much as a brand new phone and have bloatware from voda.
and if there is something wrong, with a retailer you can normally get an immediate swap if less than 14 days old, i would presume you would need original receipts from 2nd hand phone for warranty sake.
Used is used, even if its 5 minutes.
You never know what he has done with the phone.
I just suggest you to buy a brand new factory one, that way you will never have any problems, and even if you will, they will be easily solve-able.
The extra cash is well worth it.
I got a used one from e-bay for £130 a couple of months ago but they were selling them for £129-99 in Phones4U a couple of weeks ago but you had to pick a network and buy £10 top up, but I dont know if the deal is still available
I had an original Focus that got run over by a car and I had to get a new one using my insurance. I received that one a couple weeks ago. I called the insurance company because the new one had bad signal problems and I asked for another phone. I just received the new one and it's a refurbished. Is this normal policy? I paid $200. for my original Focus and I'm not too happy getting a refurbished model.
Are they not making these anymore or are they having problems with the new ones? They never told me they were sending me a refurbished. I'm just wondering if anyone here has received a refurbished for replacement?
Policy
What does your policy say? The ones I have seen, and I think the warranty terms as well, allow for refurbished phones.
if you gripe to the right people you should be able to get a new one.... it might take going to a few stores and talking to the right manager..
The signal is better so far than the old one, at least is doesn't lose calls all the time. It looks in good shape too but it's hard accepting a refurb being that I paid $200 for this thing.
I'll have to look at my contract as it applies to what they can give me but on the phone she didn't mention a refurb as a possibility. She only said a new samsung or a phone of equal quality. I'm not sure how a refurb is of equal quality to a brand new phone. I'll keep this for a few days to see how it works out. Thanks for the replys.
This is for ATT, my understading it was on suposed to $50 for replacement. I asked when I purchased the insurance thru ATT. Did they feed me a load of BS?
thanks
Nothing wrong with a refurb so long as it carries a warrenty, has no scratches, and is not full of ear wax ! Sometimes you are better off with a refurb as it's been fully tested or any potential known issues are fixed.
But yes, always nice to get one fresh new one for sure.

They do replace for $50, with a refurb. I've never had insurance with any carrier that offered a brand new phone. The refurbs are just as good, in fact probably tested even better than new ones.

I did receive a new phone for my replacement the first time with AT&T. When I sent that one back because the signal sucked they sent me a refurb. This one is having issues also, the signal still sucks, the tiles seem to move all by themselves randomly and the phone freezes up. I've never seen tiles just move on their own like that, they just rearrange themselves into different locations, and the phone usually freezes up after that.
I have to stop buying new crap, I need to let someone else be the Guinea pig.

I tend to agree with you on that one, "A bunch of used car salesman". I have been with ATT for quite some time and I do my reserch but $50 for a replacement was less than my tilt2. I was a bit surprised and pleased.
Just a note my Focus has been running like a charm since day one, I was lucky enought to have a capable 16GB MCSD card out of the gate.

Hey guys just looking for some advice. I have had my Evo since about a week after it came out, I bought it from Best Buy. Well the first one I bought had the light leakage and I returned it to Best Buy to be replaced. Everything went smoothly. Well just yesterday the speaker in the ear piece (not the speakerphone speaker, the regular one) just randomely blew up and sounds horrible.
My question is should I take my phone to a Sprint store or Best Buy where I bought it? And will they replace my speaker or new phone? Any help is appreciated.
Oh and I dont have insurance on it.
Thanks

Then not Sprint.
I would advise either Best buy or, if you can spare not having a phone [or have a spare phone] for two weeks, using the HTC warranty to get a brand new one.
I've heard some Best Buy horror stories.

Not according to any Sprint store I've been to.

You need ESRP to get it fixed by them, I believe it's $3 / month

I suppose, again, not at these Sprint stores around here.
At any rate, Best buy apparently has worked for him before and given him a brand new one as opposed to a refurbished one.
So I think it's clear where he should go
Yea, thanks for the help guys im about to go try the Best Buy and see what they say, I hope I dont need my receipt for this because theres no way I still have it.
Yea, take it to sprint, not best buy. The warranty is through sprint, and a broken speaker is a warranty issue, no insurance needed. As long as there is no physical or water damage, they should fix it or replace with a refurbished phone.
Warranty
It doesn't matter where you bought it. I would go back to the original point of sale due to the buyer's remorse period. It's possible that your local Best Buy got a bad batch of phones, that happened to me. My first 3 EVO's all got stuck on stupid and were constantly boot looping. They finally sent me to a Sprint store and I they fixed it. As far as the insurance goes, as everyone else has said on here, that is for an out of warranty issue (water/physical damage). In warranty would be anything in the first year that wasn't caused by you.
Hope this helps.
As long as its not physical damage you should be alright. At the worst the Service and Repair charge will be $35. And at that time you'll have the option to add the ESRP. Referring to Best Buy taking the phone back for the light leak, how long did you have it, and that just so happened to be a known issue.
My TF101 got run over by a School Bus a few days ago... My parents don't think it would be wise to get it replaced under warranty cause they think it would cost more than buying a new tablet like a Nexus 7.
What do you think? I really need the input...
What's the term of your warranty?
Deductible amount ect.? Can't answer without knowing a little more details.
Go for the nexus 7. It's got the tegra 3 and its a nexus device. So google updates as soon as they are available.
And all that for under 200 euros.
Plus you cannot have a device repaired under warrenty that was ran over by a school bus. Somehow I don't think that is covered by the Asus warrenty

ok it's probably one of those in store warranty. I though you had purchase an extended protection plan or something. In that case being run over by a bus is not covered. Your parents probably right, cheaper to get a new one than to fix.

Hey guys, help a noob out? I bought a Nexus 4 from craigslist for $650 because my order is in limbo level 3 right now. The phone was brand new, nothing was opened as far as I can tell. So after using it for a few hours I noticed the yellowish tint so many of you mentioned on here and now the phone won't even turn on. I called Google and they said they cannot honor the warranty since I didn't originally purchase it from the Google Play store and I should take it back to the person who sold it to me? Seriously, take it back to the craigslist guy? To my understanding when you purchase a product the remaining manufacturer's warranty transfers over to the person who bought it? Google has been such an arse about this whole Nexus 4 thing, I'm seriously considering sticking with Apple, smh! Any suggestions?

As for the warranty maybe you can talk top the seller. I doubt he will give you your money back back maybe he can transfer the warranty.

I tried to get in touch with this guy but he's not responding. He probably knew about the issue or no longer cares now that he has his money. You'll be better off then limbo level. I am sure they have a service center in the states, and I bet they attempt to connect to it, Won't be able, stick it in the parts bin and then send you off a referb.
You at least "know" what is happening. Some them limbo's are clueless on what is happening.
I find this amusing. First AFAIK Google does not transfer warranties. In fact if you lookup the terms and conditions, you must have and "Maintain" a Google wallet account to get Google warranty. That said, when they sold out in 20 minutes, I looked on Ebay and there was a listing where in big bold red letters stated Google has a no questions asked warranty. I thought it was a horrible misrepresentation. ANyway...Good luck.

Hi there, I found your post on xda-developers forum and as I have the same issue - bought expensive phone from Kijiji and now have a brick, I want to see how to go about it. Google said they will 'transfer warranty' but then days later they said it was an error. LG is saying to call Google and are quite rude about it. The phone was new from never opened box bought in February?
How did you do? Did you get a repaired or a new phone? And do you have any advice in dealing with LG?
Thanks,
