Hi All,
I dont have an HD2 (Wish I did but monies tight) but I have a question that I and trying to find an answer to. It requires a test if no one has done it yet.
Can someone please go into the camera Set it to its highest setting with superfine selected for quality and take a picture and then see what the size of the file is. Then Go to the HTC msg app, and create a new msg tap the paperclip to attach a picture and then take the same picture, and tell me what the size of the file is? (If this has already been done I am sorry).
It seems that with the Touch Pro 2, and my guess the HD2 as well have two different settings for the camera to take pictures. The reason I asked for this info is because I am trying to see if there is a way to stop the re-sizing of the pictures to such a drastic small size. If this has been covered please direct me to the link cause I havent seen a thread about it yet anywhere.
If not, would someone try that and get back to me?
I got 718.9 kb for a non mms picture, when I went to add one to mms it was 41.8 kb..hopefully that helps
It helps confirm my suspicison that there is two camera settings, but I dont know if the p1-p10 setting under HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera is where the msg camera setting is located.
Thanks for doing that, now that its confirmed that HD2 and TP2 both have two different camera settings, now to find out where, because under ATT you have a 600K limit to send MMS, so why doesnt it re-size it to a decent size instead of so small.

I think if its pictures youre receiving - the universal does not resize. The size of images received will be determined by the source phone. In the MMS configuration options the image size governs the size of an image you will send not receive.
hope this helps.
Matt
no its definitely resizing it cause i sent a 46k picture from my phone to myself and it went out as 46k and came back and downloaded as 5k and the pic was tiny as hell

aaahhh ok then check your mms configuration. If you sent an image to yourself then your settings are probably set to qqvga or qvga ie the smallest picture size.
There is also a setting in pictures and videos to either keep your pic the same size or reduce it.

I'm going to bring this back up, even though I'm using a Wizard, I'm having the same issue.. Anyone ever figure this out?
well... seems it's not only me who has the same problem. whatever picture is sent it comes in of 5KB-6KB (max) and resized to 128x119. photo settings are related only to outgoing pictures and not incoming
I have the same problem too on my T-Mobile Wing (HTC Herald P4350)
My girlfriend has an MDA (HTC Wizard) and I used to have one as well ... and we would successfully send each other pictures all the time.
I just upgraded my phone to the Herald and when she sends me MMS pictures, they are reduced to 5-8kb... which is absurd and pointless.
I took a pictures and sent it to myself, with the same results.
Anyone have any ideas?
Hey all.
I am using the HTC Diamond.
WHen i store a picture to any contact and view it on the Peoples Tab in the TF3 the quality is horrible.
I tried to edit the picture as 256X256 which is equal to the default pics ,.... but still st does not impeove..
but when i choose the default pic in the tab. the pic quality is awsome.
why ?
Better way is to add picture to your contacts directly from album - not in contacts - that works for me better
Yea thats what i do. stll the quality is not good enough....
hmmm...and are those pictures captured by Diamond?? What for a resolution??
and could you give a screenshot??
well just bought the phone so not able to give you the screen shot but
tried by pics captured from my diamond as well as digi cam.
the resolution is
256 X 256
depth is 32 bit
72 dpi..
Does anyone here knows how to have a super image quality in the peoples tab.
Not sure if resizing the pictures to such a small format is a good way
Ok when you´re in album - picture with 3,2mpx resolution add to contacts - then the quality in people tab is bad??
Yea its stll bad dear
So for now I don´t know what it causes ´cause for me worked adding pictures from album and not in contacts..
But some time ago I saw here a thread about this issue so I´ll take a look
I had a similar problem I got around it like this..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2824740#post2824740
Resize to 240x320
you don't have to resize. The issue is with the fact that win mobile on its own isn't designed to show high res images that the diamond outputs (since most touch phones don't have a super high res screen). All you have to do is go to favorite tab and using that interface to add a picture for that specific person. The TF3D software will bump the resolution for you so that the image appears right.
People > Menu > Change picture
I think it's a problem from outlook. When you add a picture in outlook from your computer, you see the visit card and the picture you add is low resolution. But adding picture by the HTC album keep the right resolution. But you can sometime have an error when synchronizing with outlook after that.
HEy guys.
thanks everyone for your coments and suggestions..
after trying nearly for 2 days all differenent propositions...
i have almost solved the problem..
the solution..
1.Change the image from JPG to PNG
2. Change the image resolution to 256X256.
3. Increase the DPI to as much as possible... pref 300 DPI
4. Click on the menu on the peoples tab and change the picture.
by this i am getting very good resolution and clarity to my pics.
Please add more coments or suggestions to this.
Thanks.
SIdd.
I got a problem with my mms. When I send, or receive, the mms ends up at only a few kb. Is it some settings or something that needs to be changed? Weird thing is that its like 46 kb when I send the picture, but when its received, its only 6kb.
Sending between 2 HTC Leo.
Got to mention that sending between HTC Leo and Samsung Omnia HD worked great.
Ive tried changing reolution to 1280x1024 in mms properties.
EDIT: I use the 1.66 stock rom norwegian.
Already asked already answered here

I recommend CeRegistryEditor for making registry changes through the PC, allows copy and pasting.
Thanks m8. Couldnt find it by searching. Will try that =)
EDIT: Tried it. I dont think thats the problem. Mine says HTC HD2 T8585 already.
Hmm, are both settings correct?
UAProfile=http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/HTC_HD2_T8585-1.0.xml
and
UserAgent=HTC_HD2_T8585
Yes, they are. Ill check the other HTC Leo as well, just in case one of them got this problem.
Also, worth a look in the registry here
HK Local Machine\Software\Jataayu\MMS\
and in the profile key there is a reference to defaultsendsize - currently set to 300 in mine. a little googling brings up chefs here on xda changing that to 1024. Could be worth a play.
Tried that as well =)
Heh well in that case the last thing i can think of is
messaging tab - all messages - menu - settings - options - scroll right to the bottom - photo resolution. Though i suspect that will be already set to 'original'.
Could be the network provider is reducing it themselves? Is that possible or legal?
Tried that as well. Im gonna check the other phone. Check if theres something wrong with the registry input there. I dont have that phone here right now, and my gf isnt answering my calls =P

Mate - would you post back and let us know how you get on? I've got the exact same problem and would like it sorted.
Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629061
I use Resco Explorer (http://www.resco.net/downloads/pocketpc/explorer/en/rescoexploreren_aio.arm.cab) Registry editor to edit registry.
I dont have anything new before friday when I come home. Its my gfs phone, and she wanted me to fix it. Ill update the thread when I know more. If she doesnt have the bug either, then I dont know whats the problem.
Checked my gfs phone now. She got the right settings as well...
Any others thoughts why the pics are 6 kb? =P
Hey. I've been playing with this problem tonight, (just for kicks, it works fine for me)
Anyway, i came across these two keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Jataayu\MMS\USER
IncomingMessageSize
and
OutgoingMessageSize
both set to 307200 (300kb)
I tried changing them, thinking maybe yours were wrong, but they reset themselves to 300kb. So did a search on '307200' and found another set of mms registry keys you might want to have a look at on your devices.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ArcSoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\MMSCSetting\SampleMMSC
Now i know it says 'sample' in the keys, but it has all the settings for my o2 mms server in there, gateway ports and the like, along with various sending size limits and such.
Gotta be worth a look, eh?
I don't know if you fixed it but i had the same problem and i did this
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Jataayu\MMS\USER
increase both your incoming message size and outgoing message size
that should do it
i just searched for 300 and looked around
Whenever I receive a picture text on my phone the picture is usually just a little bigger than thumbnail size. Even if I take a picture and text it to myself the picture is not full screen. I can save the picture to a file and when I open the file I have a full size picture. I have spent hours on the phone with Tmobile and HTC support and was not able to find a solution. This is somewhat embarrassing considering my Iphone buddies do not have this problem. Any solutions would be appreciated. Thanks.

try this cab this works wonders for me i hope it works for you lemme know
ok i tried the cab and it increased my picture size to 100kb is there a way to increase to the 300 limit or at least close to it i take pictures at the 5 mp and i understand that size won't go but can't it resize it around 250-300 range?
let me know what size u get on your resize i don't know if its just me
Alright, guys. After calling multiple CSR's on T-Mobile's side, i've figured it out.
There's a .cab file out there, called DocHD2MMSFix.cab that just worked like a charm on my US HD2 for T-Mobile's network! i've reposted it below, and i credit ddgarcia05 for showing my this fix. i WILL credit the Dev after i find out who you are.. :b
so, ladies and gents, install the attached .cab file, and soft reset your HD2, and hopefully it works as well as it did on mine! i'm running energyrom with cookie's hometab, dev'd on may 22nd, and it just worked out nicely. =]
i'm hoping that it'll work out on the devices running different rom's because i know alot of you out there are suffering.. D:
Post if this worked, or didn't work at all! make sure you include the rom that you are using, the Dev. date of the rom, and a link to the original rom page would be excellent! =]
Credit to DaDoctor!
found him! give credit to this one right here!
DaDoctor!
his original post with this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6243390&postcount=3
just reposting to get his genius around. =]
There's actually several cabs floating around for this, including ones for previous builds of WM/Sense, on various models of HTC phones. Almost all of them are titled with some variant of "Tmobile MMS fix". It's a common fix that's been around for a while....they might all have the same root origin, but the regedit at the source of the fix has been cabbed up by many different devs by this point.

Might you know what needs to be changed exactly in the regedit? I can't seem to find the usual arcsoft settings in the registry. I've tried sending an MMS to myself, and it's pretty small and doesn't seem to take up the whole screen.

I can crack one open when I get home...it's the setting that sets the "user agent" I believe (what phone type)...for some reason spoofing it to various nokia phones seems to let arcsoft send a bigger MMS pic.
I'll test it.
EDIT: Just sent a 769k pic to my phone (without the cab) and received it at 96k, filling like 3/4 of the screen. I installed the cab and re-sent the exact same pic and received it the exact same way, except at 94k this time. It can be viewed on fullscreen once you save the pic to the phone or sd card.
TMOUS HD2 to HD2 MMS makes no difference with the cab on KUMARS
Is this suppose to fix the slideshow/landscape mode when receiving MMS? If so, this did not fix it. I have tried every fix here on XDA and still can't get that fixed
I will also suggest to edit the title because It's not "Official". This might make some people once they see it doesn't work for them. BTW how do you revert it?

Same with me. I guess the only way to view the full size is to save it. Kind of a hassle though
Did some more searching. The maker is "DaDoctor". The link to the page where posted the cab is here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6243390&postcount=3 Glad it helped.

I noticed when I send my GF a text (she also has the HD2) It does not resize the file at all, but when I send to someone else if the file size is a little big they never get it!? I found a setting in the sms menu that has helped out considerably. Go to all messages/menu/setting/options scroll down to photo resolution, then pick a resolution. I set mine to WVAG because sometime i send pictures to her and she likes setting them to her background or lock screen

SirPhunkee, what is this cab supposed to fix specifically. i am having trouble following the convo. Is it automatically reducing the file size of the MMS?! Maybe it might be stuck on a really low setting I mention above ^

It makes a picture sent to you by someone else (apparently who doesn't have an HD2) viewable in full screen.
i agree running kumar 2.1 may 6th and the image is sized at 117 kb out of 300 kb and the picture is still small.
i agree running kumar 2.1 may 6th and the image is sized at 50 kb out of 300 kb and the picture is still small. we need something in the range of 250-299 to have a decent quality shot.
Awesome cab that was given to in a reply in the Energy thread. It removes the 300k limit at sets it at 5mb. It'll be uploaded onto my stick as well, enjoy.
i am using NRG rom. the lates 22.May and this is the only cab. than realy fix the mms size problem. and now have landscape support if you resived the pic. on portrait.
@ddgarcia- thanks for that link, saved me the trouble of cracking open a cab
@toreone and everyone else- what the the DaDoc MMS fix cab does is exactly what I was remembering; it changes the user agent in the registry, which apparently is relevant somewhere to how images are resized...but I honestly don't know exactly where/how. Could be the network, could be the phone, could be the MMS client or sense, I can't say for sure. But what I can say is this tweak has indeed worked for many users on various WM hardware.
Here's the registry changes it makes, I just cut and pasted this from the link ddgarcia posted above:
Code:
HKLM/Software/Jataayu/MMS/SP/UAProfile
changed to: http://www.htcmms.com.tw/claro/diamond-1.0.xml
HKLM/Software/Jataayu/MMS/SP/UserAgent
changed to: NokiaN95/11.0.026; Series60/3.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1

As you can see, changing the UserAgent to the "NokiaN95" profile is part of the secret sauce here. Also noteworthy is the fact that it refers to the Jataayu MMS client.
I just saw the most recent cab ddgarcia posted above, while I was composing this, and that's another of the ones I've seen. However, taking a peek in it reveals that 1) all the reg changes are related to size limit settings like he mentioned (bumps it up to 5MB, even though that's beyond the 1MB limit of tmo's network), 2) they refer to the ArcSoft MMS client, and 3) they make no mention of the UserAgent etc. I'll post it too if anybody wants a peek, but it's kinda long. My suggestion...run them both, but test after each, and I suspect you'll see a difference after one if not both. Or not lol.
Again, these regedits have nothing to do with the issue where MMS images end up being displayed on the HD2 as a slideshow, and in forced landscape. I know I've seen that brought up in other threads before, not sure if any solution was reached.

Yea this is what i would really wante to get fixed. Hopefully a solution to fix this comes soon
I am using the cab provided form the elegancia ROM page. When I get mms pictures sent from my girlfriend's iphone, it does not fill up the whole screen, but only about 3/4 of the screen. It could just be because the photo resolution taken with the iPhone's camera is too low? I will try sending an mms from another HD2, and see if it fills up the whole screen or not. Link to the ROM can be found in my sig.
