MMS problem, low resolution - HD2 General

I got a problem with my mms. When I send, or receive, the mms ends up at only a few kb. Is it some settings or something that needs to be changed? Weird thing is that its like 46 kb when I send the picture, but when its received, its only 6kb.
Sending between 2 HTC Leo.
Got to mention that sending between HTC Leo and Samsung Omnia HD worked great.
Ive tried changing reolution to 1280x1024 in mms properties.
EDIT: I use the 1.66 stock rom norwegian.

Already asked already answered here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629061
I recommend CeRegistryEditor for making registry changes through the PC, allows copy and pasting.

Thanks m8. Couldnt find it by searching. Will try that =)
EDIT: Tried it. I dont think thats the problem. Mine says HTC HD2 T8585 already.

Hmm, are both settings correct?
UAProfile=http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/HTC_HD2_T8585-1.0.xml
and
UserAgent=HTC_HD2_T8585

Yes, they are. Ill check the other HTC Leo as well, just in case one of them got this problem.

Also, worth a look in the registry here
HK Local Machine\Software\Jataayu\MMS\
and in the profile key there is a reference to defaultsendsize - currently set to 300 in mine. a little googling brings up chefs here on xda changing that to 1024. Could be worth a play.

Tried that as well =)

Heh well in that case the last thing i can think of is
messaging tab - all messages - menu - settings - options - scroll right to the bottom - photo resolution. Though i suspect that will be already set to 'original'.
Could be the network provider is reducing it themselves? Is that possible or legal?

Tried that as well. Im gonna check the other phone. Check if theres something wrong with the registry input there. I dont have that phone here right now, and my gf isnt answering my calls =P

Mate - would you post back and let us know how you get on? I've got the exact same problem and would like it sorted.

Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629061
I use Resco Explorer (http://www.resco.net/downloads/pocketpc/explorer/en/rescoexploreren_aio.arm.cab) Registry editor to edit registry.
I dont have anything new before friday when I come home. Its my gfs phone, and she wanted me to fix it. Ill update the thread when I know more. If she doesnt have the bug either, then I dont know whats the problem.

Checked my gfs phone now. She got the right settings as well...
Any others thoughts why the pics are 6 kb? =P

Hey. I've been playing with this problem tonight, (just for kicks, it works fine for me)
Anyway, i came across these two keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Jataayu\MMS\USER
IncomingMessageSize
and
OutgoingMessageSize
both set to 307200 (300kb)
I tried changing them, thinking maybe yours were wrong, but they reset themselves to 300kb. So did a search on '307200' and found another set of mms registry keys you might want to have a look at on your devices.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ArcSoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\MMSCSetting\SampleMMSC
Now i know it says 'sample' in the keys, but it has all the settings for my o2 mms server in there, gateway ports and the like, along with various sending size limits and such.
Gotta be worth a look, eh?

I don't know if you fixed it but i had the same problem and i did this
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Jataayu\MMS\USER
increase both your incoming message size and outgoing message size
that should do it
i just searched for 300 and looked around

HTC HD2/ LEO MMS too small (Carrier o2)

Hi, I have trawled through the threads and done many searches but I have not come across any resolutions to my problem.
I can send pictures via mms fine and they display perfectly on the receivers handset, but when I receive a picture via mms its tiny, like a thumbnail.
I have no idea why this is happening there has to be a solution to it or a registry fix. I have tried saving the picture and then pinch zooming but this doesnt work at all well.
Any help would be fantastic.
Chris
HTC HD2
CARRIER o2
Cooked Rom Topix 1.1.2
Download the attached file, unzip and copy the reg file to your device and then import it to your registry, that should sort it out for you.
Solution
It seems some other HTC devices has the same issue with o2 resizing mms messages.
Here is a solution for another HTC Model but ive applied it to my Hd2/Leo and it's worked a treat.
Only difference is the registry you need to tweak are in a different file/location.
HK Local Machine\Software\Jataayu\MMS\SP
UserAgent = NokiaN95/11.0.026; Series60/3.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
UAProfile = http://nds1.nds.nokia.com/uaprof/NN95-1r100.xml
Reboot and then send yourself or have someone send you a pic via MMS and it should display full screen.
My pics dont get resized, but only if they are over 300kb, does this over come o2's 300kb limit?
Yes the post above is correct, see this thread!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=596761
Basically the cab that applies network settings does not include operator MMS settings. You need to update the UserAgent with one that the operator recognises. In the case of o2 there is one for the HD2, so if anyone with a reg editor is kind enough to post it, that would be better than another phone.
Another argument for search the forums first.
Heres mine, as I said anything less than 300kb is fine.

I got the same as you but as others have mentioned, the pic becomes very small on my HD2, when i send and receive yet the original image is bigger.
Will have to try the registry solutions to see if it works.

Edit the reg with these keys

sorry for my lack of knowledge... i know reg editers, and have ceregeditor.. but where do i goto to edit it? HKCR, HKCU, HKLM? ive looked through them but have no clue where to edit them, i'm not seeing a UAProfile on any of those. And i dont want to edit the wrong key.. thanks for your help, it's greatly appreciated, i use mms messaging daily for our graphics business, and need to see people's art in full screen mode, not these tiny thumbs.
thankyou
also i should mention, i just sync'd my phone and it says its a leo HD2 T8585.. but the post earlier stated i have T9193. is T9193 a diffrent device? or can mine be both? i just want to make sure before i go editing registry, that the reg fix will work for my model and for it being a usa HD2. thanks
anyone, please

HK Local Machine\Software\Jataayu\MMS\SP\UserAgent=HTC_HD2_ T8585
ok i input those reg keys.. what it did was when i recieve a mms with a picture now, it only shows me the text and then tells me to download the image, so i hit menu then download, and it downloaded it(whereas before entering the reg keys it would auto download the image)
then i opened the image.. and it is still 4kb? ( a tiny thumbnail) i then chose to save the mms picture and went to view it in albums\my pictures and it is still only 4kb and looks like a thumbnail.
any other suggestions guys?
thanks in advance

Might be worth a try changing it nothing to lose.
The way all this works is dependant on the network knowing what phone you have, the reason your getting such a small image back is becuase its being sent back in some kinda safemode.

recieved mms size issue o2 uk

hi, i know this has been discussed before, but the previously discussed fix didn't work for me. im on o2 im the uk, and my recieved mms picture size is being scaled down to about 5-8kb in size no matter what size it was originally sent as. I did search and find a reg tweak that reports the phone type being used to the network to say that its supported or not, but as previously stated that does not work for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am currently using the lynx EX rom from here, but the rom used doesnt seem to make any difference. Thanks.
I had the same problem on o2 UK, I sent full size picture to myself as a test and it came back as a 3kb 160x120 thumbnail.
I went in the registry and changed it to the settings below and now pictures are coming the size I sent them
Go into the registry below.
HK Local Machine\Software\Jataayu\MMS\SP

UAProfile=http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/HTC_HD2_T8585-1.0.xml

For some reason the UserAgent on my HD2 had Touch Pro 2 in there instead, changed it to the one above and everything now works ok.
cheers, just tried it and it worked. Oddly, i had the touch pro 2 info in there as well. Many thanks.
Glad it worked.
I had the small picture problem on my old stock 1.43 o2 ROM as well as Duttys 1.3, so it must be the carrier auto setup utility puting the Touch Pro 2 info in there, strange that.
I got the same problem, but my says HTC_HD2_T8585 allready.
hey not working
This is for that guy that changed the Reg Keys to fix the picture problem... I went into my Reg and that info was exactly the same but im still getting my pics super small can u help me dude?

HD2 Messaging Problems

Hi there Genuis'
Unfortunately I have a problem with my HD2, short and sweet any texts over 160 characters long don't send. I've tried both the 1.48 ROM Upgrade, the 1.66 ROM Upgrade and any other updates HTC have released.
I also sent my phone back (though the engineer only noted down one problem, so I included a sheet with the problems in detail), and HTC out right ignored the sheet.
So I'm asking you, is there any way for this to be fixed, or is it my phone (Radio, etc). I've tried the SIM in another phone (when the phone went back), and I was able to send a 1100 character text (yeah, I know, long hehe).
So is this something in the ROM, do I need to MTTY my phone? And if I do need to MTTY my phone, can I remove Hard SPL after? I don't particularly want my phone to have unofficial software on if it goes wrong again, HTC will charge me big monies, and seeing as I'm 14, my mum would go absolutely mad and with good reason.
Many thanks dudes and dudettes/dudesses.
Jake
grab a registry editor, (I'd recommend ceregistryeditor on the pc)
browse to
hkey local machine/software/jataayu/messaging
check the values in the following two keys march what I have.
Max7BitText 300
MaxUnicodeText 402
hope this helps
Nope
Unfortunately my values don't match, but interestingly enough they are higher, for Max7BitText anyway.
MaxUnicodeText : 402
Max7BitText : 918.
Is this because I'm on a different ROM to you?
Forgive me, I'm more of a Windows Tinkerer than a Windows Mobile Tinkerer eheh.
If I can't get it sorted in an hour I'll have to phone up HTC to get it picked up on Thursday or something.
Thanks again,
Jake
Surely calling the person is quicker than sending a 1100 (!!!) character SMS?? lol...
I've not had any issues but my txts are never longer than one message - if they are I email or call instead...
True but you know...
And my girlfriend's dad got the HD2 too, recommendation from me, and when I went over there 2 weeks or so ago he let me use his, and he's had his since ooh January, and it worked fine.
Oh and sorry I did forget to say, my phone will work fine for a week or so after a ROM Upgrade/Hard reset, then screw itself over again.
Real bloody annoying.
Thanks,
Jake
i have HTC hd2 probelm too!
my hd2 freezes alot and i have to take out the battery to switch it bk on. sometimes the device runs slow aswell, tied using RAM cleaner but still running slow...
any advice guys?
cheers in advance

I have the same problem as you do. And I also found those same values in my registry as you did (402, 918).
Happen to be using a Dutch rom? Cause I do. The official latest dutch rom without any other updates (there are none)
how weird. sorry using my hd2. I'm using a HTC stock ROM, 1.66. I might try entering those values and seeing if it makes a difference.
Or maybe we have duff phones, with bad chips? if 500,000 were shipped, just think, not every single one will be perfect.
Who knows hey?
Jake,
i can't send messages with more than 918 characters. thats 6 sms, and i cant send anymore than that at a time.
anyone else got this problem?
That's a registry setting.
Download a registry editor and have a hunt, I have a feeling it is "Max7BitText" setting in HKLM\Software\Jataayu\Messaging.
Change this setting to something higher and you might be able to send more texts.
Could you please tell me if you can send texts over 160 characters?

I did change these values, but they dont seem to have fixed the problem for me.
yes i can send texts with more than 160 characters no problem
I'm a fan of long text messages, so I feel your pain... in fact, my text messages are so long they went back in time and sank the Titanic ; ) I'm on the standard HTC 1.66 WWE ROM, and I don't have the problem. My Max7 and MaxUnicode values are 918 and 402 respectively. Good luck.
what about lagging issues?
hey,
i solved my problem.
really, i rarely send a message with more than 918 characters. 3 or 4 sms at the most.
but i have 2 issues which have, the one above and the lagging.
ive reluctantly installed zenyees disable htc messaging thing. I didnt really want to do this because i really like the interface of the htc sms thing. but enough was enough and ive reverted back to the windows messaging thing. which i was used to from the x1. if you havent used anything other than the htc messaging, then going to windows looks like a step back, its basic. but does the job well. like the saying goes, get the basics right and all else will fall into place.
unfortunately htc havent really got all the basics right here.
Phoned up HTC earlier, spoke to a really nice guy and he's getting my phone in for it's second Repair. Said it could be the antenna or the BIOS, which they will happily check.
Let's hope it goes well this time.
And hmm, I'm a bit reluctant to go back to Windows Mobile Messaging, but I'll try it if this doesn't work.
The guy said that if it doesn't work send it back and they'll push for a replacement phone.
HTC Support = Abso-flipping-lutely great!
HTC sent me an email saying that i cant send sms-es with more than 918 characters and suggested I emailed instead. Which is a valid point but some people dont regularly check their mail so sms is the best option to contact those people....
well another reason not to use the HTC messaging facility.
great when it works, but a carrier pigeon is better when it doesnt.

Hey - I found one that was supposed to be for the HD2. On my ROM, it was showing settings for a Touch Pro2, so I'm not sure if this is the same as other ROMs out there:

UserAgent=HTC_HD2_T8585
UAProfile=http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/HTC_HD2_T8585-1.0.xml

Thanks I have been plagued with tiny pics since November I thought it was just TMOUS because my Xperia X1 did the same thing. Now I don't think I even need to upgrade to the TMOUS branded phone.

Please explain this MMS fix for TMOUS?
I'm not sure what everyone is talking about, but when I send a MMS, it displays a small picture, but if you save the file. It's the same actual file I sent.
Is this "fix", supposed to be make it appear bigger in the message itself or are people getting small picture when downloaded also?
Please elaborate...Thanks.

Hello,
I've actually had an opposite problem with the HD2 I got from a Tmobile store on Saturday.... The phone has been attempting to send photos whos file size is too large for mms, yesterday it tried a 1.6 meg picture. Shouldnt it try to automatically resize before sending, or prompt me that its too big? Anyone having the same problem?

When Flashing a custom rom the registry gets all messed up and when you receive a pic it downsizes it to like 4k super small on the huge screen.

I had the stock rom for a couple of days and when I tried to send pictures it asked me to downsize. Never had that problem
I'm having a problem with picture MMS, but it's not too small. The problem I'm having is that a picture message will for some reason play as a 10 second video. It's not really a major issue, just annoying to see when I open up the message. Also, I'm seeing that it the file reads 253KB/1024KB. Does that mean that it didn't download completely or what? When I open the mms, I can save the image as a jpg, and it displays fine in my album. Is this happening to anyone else with Tmo US HD2?

Official Fix For USA T-Mobile's HD2: Small MMS Receiving Problems!

Alright, guys. After calling multiple CSR's on T-Mobile's side, i've figured it out.
There's a .cab file out there, called DocHD2MMSFix.cab that just worked like a charm on my US HD2 for T-Mobile's network! i've reposted it below, and i credit ddgarcia05 for showing my this fix. i WILL credit the Dev after i find out who you are.. :b
so, ladies and gents, install the attached .cab file, and soft reset your HD2, and hopefully it works as well as it did on mine! i'm running energyrom with cookie's hometab, dev'd on may 22nd, and it just worked out nicely. =]
i'm hoping that it'll work out on the devices running different rom's because i know alot of you out there are suffering.. D:
Post if this worked, or didn't work at all! make sure you include the rom that you are using, the Dev. date of the rom, and a link to the original rom page would be excellent! =]
Credit to DaDoctor!
found him! give credit to this one right here!
DaDoctor!
his original post with this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6243390&postcount=3
just reposting to get his genius around. =]
There's actually several cabs floating around for this, including ones for previous builds of WM/Sense, on various models of HTC phones. Almost all of them are titled with some variant of "Tmobile MMS fix". It's a common fix that's been around for a while....they might all have the same root origin, but the regedit at the source of the fix has been cabbed up by many different devs by this point.

Might you know what needs to be changed exactly in the regedit? I can't seem to find the usual arcsoft settings in the registry. I've tried sending an MMS to myself, and it's pretty small and doesn't seem to take up the whole screen.

I can crack one open when I get home...it's the setting that sets the "user agent" I believe (what phone type)...for some reason spoofing it to various nokia phones seems to let arcsoft send a bigger MMS pic.
I'll test it.
EDIT: Just sent a 769k pic to my phone (without the cab) and received it at 96k, filling like 3/4 of the screen. I installed the cab and re-sent the exact same pic and received it the exact same way, except at 94k this time. It can be viewed on fullscreen once you save the pic to the phone or sd card.
TMOUS HD2 to HD2 MMS makes no difference with the cab on KUMARS
Is this suppose to fix the slideshow/landscape mode when receiving MMS? If so, this did not fix it. I have tried every fix here on XDA and still can't get that fixed
I will also suggest to edit the title because It's not "Official". This might make some people once they see it doesn't work for them. BTW how do you revert it?

Same with me. I guess the only way to view the full size is to save it. Kind of a hassle though
Did some more searching. The maker is "DaDoctor". The link to the page where posted the cab is here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6243390&postcount=3 Glad it helped.
Here is the link to changes it makes on the registry. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653563

I noticed when I send my GF a text (she also has the HD2) It does not resize the file at all, but when I send to someone else if the file size is a little big they never get it!? I found a setting in the sms menu that has helped out considerably. Go to all messages/menu/setting/options scroll down to photo resolution, then pick a resolution. I set mine to WVAG because sometime i send pictures to her and she likes setting them to her background or lock screen

SirPhunkee, what is this cab supposed to fix specifically. i am having trouble following the convo. Is it automatically reducing the file size of the MMS?! Maybe it might be stuck on a really low setting I mention above ^

It makes a picture sent to you by someone else (apparently who doesn't have an HD2) viewable in full screen.
i agree running kumar 2.1 may 6th and the image is sized at 117 kb out of 300 kb and the picture is still small.
i agree running kumar 2.1 may 6th and the image is sized at 50 kb out of 300 kb and the picture is still small. we need something in the range of 250-299 to have a decent quality shot.
Awesome cab that was given to in a reply in the Energy thread. It removes the 300k limit at sets it at 5mb. It'll be uploaded onto my stick as well, enjoy.
i am using NRG rom. the lates 22.May and this is the only cab. than realy fix the mms size problem. and now have landscape support if you resived the pic. on portrait.
@ddgarcia- thanks for that link, saved me the trouble of cracking open a cab
@toreone and everyone else- what the the DaDoc MMS fix cab does is exactly what I was remembering; it changes the user agent in the registry, which apparently is relevant somewhere to how images are resized...but I honestly don't know exactly where/how. Could be the network, could be the phone, could be the MMS client or sense, I can't say for sure. But what I can say is this tweak has indeed worked for many users on various WM hardware.
Here's the registry changes it makes, I just cut and pasted this from the link ddgarcia posted above:
Code:
HKLM/Software/Jataayu/MMS/SP/UAProfile
changed to: http://www.htcmms.com.tw/claro/diamond-1.0.xml
HKLM/Software/Jataayu/MMS/SP/UserAgent
changed to: NokiaN95/11.0.026; Series60/3.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1

As you can see, changing the UserAgent to the "NokiaN95" profile is part of the secret sauce here. Also noteworthy is the fact that it refers to the Jataayu MMS client.
I just saw the most recent cab ddgarcia posted above, while I was composing this, and that's another of the ones I've seen. However, taking a peek in it reveals that 1) all the reg changes are related to size limit settings like he mentioned (bumps it up to 5MB, even though that's beyond the 1MB limit of tmo's network), 2) they refer to the ArcSoft MMS client, and 3) they make no mention of the UserAgent etc. I'll post it too if anybody wants a peek, but it's kinda long. My suggestion...run them both, but test after each, and I suspect you'll see a difference after one if not both. Or not lol.
Again, these regedits have nothing to do with the issue where MMS images end up being displayed on the HD2 as a slideshow, and in forced landscape. I know I've seen that brought up in other threads before, not sure if any solution was reached.

Yea this is what i would really wante to get fixed. Hopefully a solution to fix this comes soon
I am using the cab provided form the elegancia ROM page. When I get mms pictures sent from my girlfriend's iphone, it does not fill up the whole screen, but only about 3/4 of the screen. It could just be because the photo resolution taken with the iPhone's camera is too low? I will try sending an mms from another HD2, and see if it fills up the whole screen or not. Link to the ROM can be found in my sig.
