So.. this would really get us close to a custom Hero 2.X ROM?? (beacuse of drivers and chipset compatiblitiy)... right??
great
well this is great news as i left a moto droid for the eris however i really liked 2.0. The only thing i am a little worried about though is that os 1.6 can now run googles maps with the turn by turn navigation.... I hope they dont screw us over by just giving us 1.6 and not 2.0 or 2.1.... i guess we will have to wait and see

I agree, after reading the article again the same thought crossed my mind
I understand the worry about 1.6 but in all honesty, that would be stupid. The Eris came out AFTER the Hero and they have a 2.1 Hero rom in development for release. I don't see HTC being so foolish as to release 1.6 for Eris.
So, I spoke to a tech and they said there will be two updates in the upcoming months. One is scheduled for the 11 of this month(same day for a Droid update) and one is for the 22nd of January. He cold not really see what was planned for the 22nd update but he said the update on the 11th will see a few bug fixes. The few mentioned were the clock and weather widget taking up more battery that suppose to, something relating to google sync, a browser related on and a settings related one. Not sure how really accurate this is, but it sounds positive.
Maybe others can call vzw tech support and ask around
You either got a one in a million smart tech guy or he is completely lying to you. I hope the first description applies not the last as I own an Eris myself. We could try calling tech and telling them that we are having problems in the areas listed above and see what they say to either confirm or deny this. Personally mine is fine, although any battery conservation is great, I could wait until 2.x to come to me. I just really want one of these updates to have a hole that we can find so we can get root.
well he said that is what the comp records said for the updates...
I think the Eris wont get 2.x anytime soon. Too me it looks like Verizon wants 2.0 exclusive to the Droid. See how they point out
Currently, our developers have to work with the carriers to determine when and if a ROM upgrade will be available for any of their branded models.

just a thought
Well I spoke to another tech support person today and they said it looks like the update on 22nd of January may be 2.x update for the Eris. I hope he is right. HTC tech support also told me the Eris will get a few updates in a coming months.

Just from experience, markets across seas always get it first. Does that mean that it will be after April 26th before the Sprint Hero gets the 2.1 update?
i not surprised if this is true with sprint getting the nexus and the powerhouse is being left in the wind
If this is overseas, this could be 2 or 3 months till the sprint htc hero updates.
I told you to root and flash DamageCotrol v1...

Why so pessimistic?? I'm not sure if you guys are right or wrong, but the article DOES say we'd be getting it soon after, why so scared?
Besides...once Taiwan leaks the Hero ROM, won't that be the same as when they release it for our phones? Am I wrong or isn't the overseas Hero the same but with GSM? Shouldn't we be able to perfect the 2.1 ROMs with that? I mean that would be pretty damn close with having the Eris leak as well, I don't know but I just don't see why to be scared and why to not get excited to see the actual overseas leak.

Because TODAY was our original speculation date. So after seeing this, it appears we have a month or more to wait. The biggest thing is that we havent been given a confirmed date and its getting tense.
Anyway, I just posted this for others to see something new.

Well....
Keyword-Speculation..
Stop speculating and you won't be upset...
It's not like 2.1 is going to bring an all new world, once it comes out we're just going to be inundated with well.. what now threads an hour after everyone updates..
Patience is a virtue...
didn't some self proclaimed "sprint employee" leak that date? (i've been looking, maybe they edited their original post)
But I'm going to take everything I read in the future from such sources with an extra grain of salt on top of the first. In other words... POIDH
A couple sites are saying April 9th (now), because Sprint is apparently issuing some network updates then,

We'll see when it gets here

Start running the ROMs and I think you'll chill a lot more. Plus if ANY Hero gets updated, I bet the ROMs will be perfected a little more which is still something to look forward to.
I honestly have been on DC 1.0, and yeah not everything works, but then what will work with 2.1? Will we have LWP? The builds we have may even have more than the 2.1 Sprint will give us. I mean keeping LWP off our phones but on the Nexus still keeps a reason to make us upgrade. Which means we need to hack it
Listen guys, I didnt put any exclamation marks in any of my posts. I was just simply bringing up what I found for some discussion on peoples thoughts. I am currently running Fresh Toast 2.0c and completely happy with it. This isnt to start a battle about how pissed I am, just hadnt seen anyone post this little tid bit.
Sprint 1st said first half of the year, then updated to beginning of 2nd quarter, so between April 1st to May 14th. Want some advice? Stop putting so much stock on the rumors and wait for an official date. Sprint is notorious for terrible communication and missing dates so don't expect 2.1 sooner rather than later.
Yes this pisses me off too but it doesn't do any good getting worked up over rumors proving to be false. Personally, the spreading of rumors are more upsetting than the holdout for Sprint.
Jeez you guys cant read. I never said I was pissed off, I just wanted to discuss the date since there was a confirmed one in Taiwan. Im emailing a mod now to close this. FACK!!

SonyEricssonCA posted the following on Twitter about 15 hours ago...
"Free software upgrade for the Xperia X10. Get more details here: http://bit.ly/b9HT0A"
But I can't see anything from that link, SEUS, OTA or PC Companion. Anyone else seeing anything?
its probably the update to 026....as usual, Canada always seems to be in back burner for these folks when rolling out updates.
I checked last night after reading that twitter post both OTA and SEUS, no update available. Still running on R2BA020! I assume that post was to remind newer X10 customers they should update that horrible 014 firmware.
*also today is August 6th not the 8th man

Yesterday’s tweet about the software upgrade was just a reminder for those who haven’t yet updated.
Was the update from the future? In the future I have 2.2 on my x10 and no Rogers. dare to dream.
Darn. Got excited for nothing.
Dammit
Who knows, maybe Rogers will release 2.1 before anyone else does
Doesn't hurt to dream....
You just wait... "The 2.1 update for Canada has been pushed back to Q4 of 2012"
The SE CEO's will be sitting in a room going "Who else do we have left to push 2.1 to? Canada? Those guys are still around? Do they get internet in their igloos?"
till 2012!?!?!? god damm!!!
LOL all.
That's why I rooted. Tired of waiting for Rogers to push out their updates weeks after everyone else.
BTW: R2BA026 is wonderful!
If you want a picture with 2.1 set to be release oct and above in a japanese presentation i can upload it. I am sick of people expect 2.1 tomorrow because they didn't do the researches.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
sure, upload it
How is this build wonderful? What makes it good? I cannot see any difference between this and the one before. Am i missing something?
Has it improved the batter life? Has it dealt with the low volume on the earpiece?
With the Galaxy S listing for $499.99 CDN, Rogers had better get on SE for the real update, or expect a price cut on the X10.
As much as I dislike the Galaxy S' exterior design, the specs (and OS) are killer.

I'm curious. How recently did the presentation take place? The original plan was for 2.1 in Q4 but it was pushed ahead to Q3 in June/July. Is there a chance the presentation happened before or after the changed schedule?
Edit: Yep, September "onwards" for the civilized world and late Q3-early Q4 onwards for the US. Damn those progressive rollouts, always confusing stuff.
Lots of rumours flying around that the X10 is about to land on AT&T in the US...I can't imagine them actually launching this premium phone with 1.6 in the US especially after all the recent updates to 2.2 for all the highend Android devices (less the Galaxy line). SE would have to be out of their minds to pull a stunt like that. Here's hoping they aren't THAT incompetent and just finalizing a 2.1 release ready for the launch of the X10 on AT&T in the coming weeks.
I want my update now... I can't believe I am still using android 1.6!!!
No one has actually answered my questions. Whats so special about this new software update? I dont see any difference at all. Its still 1.6. No improvement on battery life and no real update worth all this hype.
What is it really?

faster performance?
Having recently come from the Nexus One & Froyo I must say over all I'm liking the X10 a lot better. Sure it's 1.6 but I think it's fine compared to 2.2 which I found to be overall not that great. The grass is always greener on the other side I guess, but having come from the other side IMO the X10 isn't missing much.
http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/09/22/samsung-galaxy-s-update-delayed-until-october/
For galaxy s phones.
With the recent update I figured it would happen. No point releasing an update only to release an even bigger one in a weeks time.
Im surprised no one has ported the leaked 2.2 rom for the galaxy S phones.
Apparently the UK is getting it at the end of this month...so it's pretty much a crapshoot.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/samsung-galaxy-s-meets-froyo-by-months-for-t-mobile-uk-customer/
I'll take the average and say October 15th
Now go quote me on blog websites so that I appear credible
Ya so Europe gets the update at th end of october... sprint cdma = end of december.. if we're lucky.
I think it's dumb that phones are even launching with 2.1 now... but to be honest, I only want 2.2 for full flash support. I'm happy with the phone otherwise. I can wait.......
my dock wont be fully functional until 2.2 comes out. boo.

Yeah, can you imagine what it was like to be running a phone with 1.5 when 2.0 came out? Sucked. Especially since Froyo was announced before the Hero even got 2.1 (thank god for devs!)
Today, I kept getting random messages from random numbers, so I called in to block, the rep also had a vibrant. So she was like "So... how do you like the vibrant?"
I'm all like "It's sexy"
But it took her so long to solve my problems, so I asked about random stuff like "Do you know when Froyo is coming out?"
She was a pretty "SMART TECH" you don't see those much on help lines now do you?
She replies: Let me check on that for you
and then she came back on and said "it won't be anytime soon, because if it is anytime soon, the tech supports usually knows weeks or months beforehand, but right now, it says 'to be determined'"
SO, do you guys it'll take as long as the rep said?
Unfortunately, this still fell into the same "He Said She Said" category, until we get an official statement, it's all moot. She may be smart but she is still a rep and I doubt she will have access to OTA information. She most likely turned around and asked her best friend/co-worker who is a tech, and he replied that he didn't know anything, and she passes that onto you.
I think she's right. We already know that froyo would come by the end of the year according to the galaxy s twitter. I expect it to come around December 29. Am I so pessimistic?

No, I believe you are pretty optimistic. End of December...well..
same here. I read the same thing in a tech online magazine.. they actually said 2011 but no precise date..
Im running the unofficial TMO froyo posted in this forum though and I like it
Cheers
Personally, I think Samsung should just give up and hand over the kernel source, maybe keep some respect.
The Unoffical Official T-MO Froyo ROM is in the Development section. If that is actually the real thing (and I completely believe it is) I don't see what the delay is for them to just release it.
Even when it does come out, I know for myself that I will keep a custom ROM. Why have stock when you can rock!
I think the point for all of us that are running one of the leaked 2.2 roms is that an official release will have more of the bugs ironed out and it will help with some of the compatibility issues. I for one have tried all flavors and each has a quirk or two. The good thing is that when 2.2 finally drops officially the devs will have almost perfected their roms and it will be easier to implement any changes made by Tmobile.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I agree with the previous post. I think Samsung leaked the ROM so that the devs here could get their hands on it and make fixes that they then can implement into the official ROM.
So it wouldn't be so embarrasing on Samsung's part? x) Something big like a software update isn't too "easily" leaked. So I do sort of have to agree too.
