Weird Phone Reboot - Hero CDMA General

OK,
so my phone just rebooted itself after happily sitting on my desk for hours.
It's now stuck on the HTC logo....
I pulled the battery, and it's doing the same thing.
I literally have done nothing to my phone all day...
Luckily I have a nandroid backup, but ???
Has anyone else seen anything like this ?

OK. F**K
Now I'm concerned.
Tried to boot into recovery, and all I see is
Build : RA-heroc-v1.6.2
on the bottom of the screen, and nothing else.

Can you access the shell via usb? Can you boot into recovery?
This happened to me after a flash without wipe.
Let us know how it goes - I hope you haven't any hardware issues!

I can access via shell.
It looks like it's in recovery, but there's no menu on the phone.

And there wasn't any other funny stuffs aside from changed firmwares (ie. recent overclock finds, etc)?
I'd try to wipe and restore via usb shell. It's sounding like you've some more funk going on...

What rom are you running? I notice my internet is very laggy as of last night and I had been charging via usb and the debugging icon did not go away when I unplugged it. Running Flips 2.1d.

How do you wipe via adb ?

I haven't done anything weird to it at all....it was just sitting there on my desk doing nothing.

Off the top of my head I don't know what dirs to clear or if you can just do a 'wipe'.
Anybody else know? I'm at work so I'm limited...
Also - is your battery healthy?

Is your phone on? If so you can go to setting privacy and hit factory data reset then hit reset phone. But I think this erases you sdcard also. Remove your sdcard just incase. Hope this helps.

Not really
I can't get past the HTC logo.

Boot into recovery on your phone.. Yes I know you cant see the menu.
But on your computer type.
adb remount
adb shell
u
Just the letter u.. It should bring up recovery on your computer.

when I do that, it doesn't look like RA Recovery ?
I only see this ?
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb shell

I can get to that screen all the time. Iv even factory reset from there.. You dont lose root if you do reset.
Try that and then try bringing up custom recovery.. If it doesnt work, download and flash the recovery again. Maybe it got corrupted some how.

This has been happening to me for the past few days (minus the stuck at boot screen)
After a few hours, my phone would just randomly restart. This has happened about 3 or 4 times in the past couple days.
Yesterday it happened and when it turned back on, I got the "Damaged SD Card" message and I had to format
So I formatted it and reflashed the ROM and it seems fine now.
I'm running DamageControl v2.07.2

That definitely sounds like what's going on. I'd replace the sd card - they do flake out...

nothing to worry about.. if you switched radio, check that the time on the phone is correct, sometimes its being reset to year 1903 which messes up many apps. Also if you switched radio/spl did you run fastboot erase system -w afterwards?
This exception should not be related to the recoveryconsole
easiest is just to wipe everything and reflash, dont forget ext. if youve used it.
If recovery is for some reason unaccesable you can reflash via flash_image() when the phone has booted android.
Also do a logcat

Which rom were you using and which rom are you using now. Did you change your radio or spl before installing this rom.
Load up into recovery and run fix uid mismatches. Reboot and see if that helps.
Does your app launcher work? If so run terminal emulator. Type in su and then enter
Type in fix_permissions and then enter. Let the script run.
Type I'm exit then enter
Type in exit and then enter again. Terminal will close. Reboot phone. If you cannot get to terminal emulator then run it from adb ( if possible )
And the other poster was referring to when you change radios there are a few commands. He wanted to make sure you ran them all

Titanium backup, delvik integration. Work 4U?

Running mostly stock rom with samurai kernel. I change my battery frequently so I reboot often, and now my reboots are so fast compared to the non integration of the delvik catch. Just wondering what other users experience with it have been. Any thing to watch for?
I had to delete some system apps to make room for the 40 megabytes of system space needed.
Hadn't heard of this, link to your methods?

I could not find any info in the titanium wiki, in the change log it became an available option in the 4.6.4 release. A release or two later deintegration became available.
The option is available by selecting menu, then more.

Wildfire stuck on bootloop

Hi all
I have a Wildfire that had Cm7, was rooted and s-offed. As Im selling the phone i thought it would be a good idea if I reset to factory, ready to be sold. However it has now given me a problem.
I reset to factory by clearing the storage on the hboot screen, and now when i turn on the phone it stays on the boot animation. I can get top the hboot menu, but im now stuck.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Have you tried reinstalling CM7/Sense ROM?
No,
Are the steps the same as a normal install?
Yes.
Sent from my Ainol Novo7 Elf using xda premium
Did you factory reset to remove your personal data or to try get back to sense? You should always factory reset in recovery to avoid these problems. Also it wont return sense, need a stock rom or a ruu for that

I thought when i was doing it, it would just delete all the apps and stuff, so it would be a brand new phone but with cm7 installed.
Ill try and reinstall cm7 and see what happens..........
Right, update
I've followed this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Wildfire:_Full_Update_Guide#Method_via_Recovery and on step 5, i've selected - Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
and now teh screen hasnt moved for about 10 minutes, its on the screen where there is a top hat and yellow arrow...........
help.....
press the power button again then use the trackball. to select everything in cwm.
Also I'm not 100% as I've never cleared storage from hboot but doesn't that wipe your SD card?
if so you may have wiped some files needed by the phone so you may need to reinstall Cm7 or whichever rom, not just factory reset.

pretty sure you need gapps for setup to work
Recommended Solution (by me):
(suppose u want "clear setup" of CM7 stable)
Prepare your SD
Wipe off everything
Copy setup files
download.cyanogenmod.com/get/stable/gingerbread/update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
download.clockworkmod.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Get out the SIM card
Boot to recovery
Wipe phone storage
In recovery go to mounts and storage
Unmount /cache
Format /cache, /data, /system
Go back, then to the advanced and Reboot Recovery
"Install" OS
Back in recovery go to install zip from sdcard/choose zip from sdcard
First install update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
Then gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
And finally Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Go back, and power off
Now u re in state "like from the store", that mean that OS is not really installed, there re just files copied and real installation will run on frist boot
Unfortunately, theres a catch
Theres problem with CM7 installation and it can face the problem with GPS
First boot will pop-up "market like" window with all Google apps, my recommendation is to wait, dont install anyting, dont click on anything, just wait, it will disapear... u can safely install them later from the market..
You don't really need the su.zip, since CM7 comes pre-rooted.

That's a good plan, but with 2 drawbacks ... 1 you don't need to flash su. Might break stuff since cm7 is pre rooted. 2 what if something else went wrong and he hasn't booted the phone to check? Then sells, unaware of it being damaged. Buyer comes back angry, ect ect aside from that good tut

sorry but u re wrong.. it cant break anything.. its just update.. in CM7.1.0.1 is SU 3.0.6 u can safely update it to 3.0.7 (i do it every time like that..)
Edit: sure guys... u dont have to do that... u can do it later from market... u will be prompt to do that... lol ....its defenetly better way install app like that from market rather than from recovery...
(both ways works in this case, anyway my logic says me that is better install crucial apps like that from recovery..)

..thats exactly why i mentioned point 7.
he have to decide what will be his next step..
if he decide to boot and try it out he will have to login to wifi, login to google account (to download Maps or GPS status) etc.. etc.. it will NOT be clear any more..
...it really depends on who is the buyer... does he know him ? can they do that together wiht buyers account, etc..
...because i dont know this dependencies i leave it open.......

[Q] Modified Platform.xml most apps crash and phone is unuseable

Hey guys, I'm having a serious problem with my Note 3 running kitkat, I attempted to modify the platform.xml and I don't exactly know what I did but i was attempting to allow apps to write to my external SD card, but I didn't change the permissions on it now the device literally is as about as useful as a brick.
-It will not run apps
-Internet doesn't work
-Various other problems
I've had a look at some other threads but my knowledge on androids is quite little, It was rooted by a friend who didn't exactly explain Rom's for android. So I'm wondering what I can do because I have some important things on my phone I do not want to loose, and from what i'm aware of a factory reset isn't the best option, if there's a way other than factory restoring it, I did see another solution with using ADB I think it was but i'm sure there is another way I can fix it. Note: Cannot browse any files or modify them they're not visible.
Thanks
Edit: Tried a factory restore from the restore menu I had with the root called CWM-base recovery same issue still popped up.
2nd Edit: Fixed the issue wasn't easy(This is for the people that have the same issue) I basically used android debug bridge to install root explorer, just download the android SDK from google and look up a tutorial on how to install apps, I modified the xml file to a stock one I had in the /system before I modified it, due to the apps crashing nothing would open so I couldn't do this, after that I restarted the phone made sure the apps crashed again, this was a good thing that they crashed, all I did after that was a factory reset never lost app data or my text files, everything is working and thank you guys for the help Some of my apps were gone but I had written them down so yeah, it was an annoying issue not exactly an easy fix b ut it works.
Hey. If u perform data wipe in recovery, u do not lose any files from your phone so this should be safe.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to fix the problem with XML file, but u can safely wipe your phone or reflash your rom.

"data wipe in recovery" By this do you mean the volume up + volume down + home till you get to the menu and press the restore? I just read this somewhere sorry for the noob question?
U press home +volume up +power button combo, until it reboots into recovery. Then you select wipe and factory reset or similar option. Just do not perform perform any formats, cause that's what erases your data. fingers crossed!

Always remember to have your phone over 30-40% of battery when u go to recovery to avoid your phone going off when messing with your phone
If u can get your phone to recovery, you can try to copy important files from there to your of and completely wipe everything and flash a new ROM.

So once my phone comes back on I can do a factory reset and hope for the best? I don't really want all of my apps to go or anything i've installed on the actual device, so when I do a factory reset will this remove everything i've got, i'm not entirely sure how i'd copy the files on to my pc because I couldn't browse anything on the device last time i plugged it in after I modified the platform.xml
You will keep your files but all the apps will be removed, so you will need to install them back. Probably you could copy the file you messed up from someone else and try to get tour phone back up but I am not sure how to do it.

Ok thanks a ton for the help, I'm going to see if there's a way to use the adb utility to pull the file I damaged get a stock one and push it, I don't know if it will work but i'll give it a go, or should I just do a factory reset? I'd prefer to keep my apps but if it means I have to wipe them I will.
You can give it a try and then if it doesn't work, do the factory reset
Let us know how u do

Did the factory restore, via the boot thing same issue and the stupid app crashing, I'm puzzled on what to do. Any other solutions I'm concerned my phone is literallly broken now.
Factory reset does only reformat cache, Dalvik and data partition. If you tinkered with your system one and rendered something useless, it won't help you at all to do a factory reset. It just does not touch the normally READ ONLY system. If you wanna fix it, and you have no setting to fix permissions in TWRP/CWM you have to reflash the system, either by reflashing the custom ROM you used from there or by using Odin and flashing the original system back to it. This is why you ALWAYS should have a TWRP (or if you really think about outdated stuff... CWM) FULL backup ready and armed.

Didn't think about fixing permissions. Worth giving it a try.
