ActiveSync Works Occasionally. Question. - HD2 General

ActiveSync no longer works on my unit. While the phone still charges when attached, the computer no longer sees the phone. I attached the phone to a second computer; same thing; phone not seen. Since I'm traveling for the next 75 days and can't risk a hard reset, I'm wondering if there are any settings on the phone that I should double-check that might block the phone from being seen. Obviously, there's a chance that the physical connection has gone bad (the Home button has been flaky recently, suggesting a physical defect), but before I accept that conclusion, I want to make sure I didn't mess something up. Otherwise, I'll have to return the phone to HTC for repair in July.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Try going to Settings -> Other
Then see whether "USB to PC" is set to "ActiveSync"

After 2 days, ActiveSync just connected (without even trying your suggestion)! Weird. Computer gremlins, I guess. I'll hang on to you suggestion, though, because i still suspect a hardware connection issue. It might help in the future.

in the same settings you entered for usb to pc, please try unchecking "enable faster synchronization" then reconnect cable.

As stated above, ActiveSync worked BRIEFLY. After a disconnect and a reconnect, NADA! I'm pretty convinced I've got a hardware issue.
BTW, I already had "enable faster synchronization" unchecked.
Thanks for your reply.

The Ongoing Saga
Today I was able to sync using my USB connection. It's worked 2 in 10 attempts, so I'm pretty sure it's a physical issue with the mini plug on the phone. I'm in the process of getting a Bluetooth adapter for my laptop while traveling and getting the unit repaired when I return to the States.
However, I have ANOTHER QUESTION When the unit DOES sync, and I'm using the none HTC Sense screen (for WeatherPanel), I now have the ActiveSync icon in the lower right area of the screen. This messes up the WeatherPanel layout, which is designed to fill the whole screen. Can anyone tell me how to remove the icon? Looked at the ActiveSync settings; nada.
Thanks AGAIN.

Afraid not. It doesn't matter if the battery is 40%, 60%, 80% or 100%.

Weird USB issue

I've been tethering my phone with PDAnet and just recently it has started to act up. The only way my computer will recognize and sync with my phone is if I put a little downward pressure on the usb cable (phone side). Then, if it gets jostled to much it'll disconnect and say "USB device not recognized" when I try to plug it in again. It will start working if I put my computer into stand-by or shutdown. But only once. What is going on?

Your USB port is flaking out. I have had it happen to 2 titans. They start as you describe and then get worse and worse until the port stops working completely. Then you take it back and get the insurance replacement (hint hint...if you do not have insurance on your handset this would be a good time to get it). When I complained to the guy at the alltel store the second time he said that it was common enough that he might even say inevitable.
Personally I think it is a poor design because the mini usb port on the titan (and the apache) are not really supported very well by the plastic housing. They fixed this with the touch pro (have not seen a diamond yet) so I am guessing it was a pretty widespread problem.
Not the answer you want I am sure, but the above has been my experience. If you need to drag it out (i.e make it last a little longer so the insurance you just added is not immediately and suspiciously followed by a new claim) you can always sync/tether using bluetooth instead. It is a little slower (1 mb) but not too terrible.
Why are you using PDA.net? Windows internet sharing works very well and is built in (free).
I use PDAnet because my provider would frown upon traditional method of Internet Connection Sharing. However, I appreciate you sharing your experience about the Titan with me. I love the phone, but maybe it is time to put her out to pasture.

USB problems anyone?

Hello
I'm having some USB problems:
The device seems to disconnect after a few minutes, sooner with intense usb activity (like copying files)
I tried with 2 cables, 3 computers and with both XP and linux
However 3 days ago it didn't seem to act like this, altough at the time I didn't use the device so much (I was busy exporting/importing the contacts into HTC)
I tried hard reset, didn't work
I can only think of 2 possibilities: either there is a problem with the usb driver in the device, ori there is some problem with the electrical connection somewhere on the device
So, the question is - does anyone else experience the same problem?
Thanks
I think, that device disconnects when it goes to sleep mode (my device does it). When it is on USB, it acts like it it on charger, so simply make charger sleep time longer. It is quite annoying, but only solution so far.
No, it's not that, my device doesn't go to sleep when connected to a power source, anyway I tried to disable sleep mode completely and it still gets disconnected.
Interesting, the device still belives it's connected (I see the icon at the top of the screen), but the PC end is down.
Never had such issue. Maybe you could try to contact HTC Tech Support... But as the hard reset didn't help, I'm sorry to say, maybe you should consider a warranty claim. Might be a bad connector or something.
Ups sorry, i didn't read correctly the original post.
Maybe, it´s will be the energy-management from PC?
Look in device-manager in the properties of the USB-Port, try to disable the "Energy management". Please post the result here.
Greetings Mirko
Tried that too. Same result
Hello 4EST,
please use only the origional USB cable to connect PC and XDA! You got to pull the Mini USB side as you can´t see the silver part!!!
The connetion lost when you act at the cable?
Somethimes it seems only to be connectet right.
Greetings
Rescue01, I used the original cable, the problem is exactly the same.
Here is an update:
I sent the device for reparis to HTC. The device came back "reflashed", but the problem still pesisted from the first power-up. In other words, they fixed nothing, didn't even bother to check if it worked right
I sent the device back again for repairs, very angry, talking to the call center. This time they opened the device (I can see it on the screws), did something to it, then reflashed the device again.
And it worked perfectly, with all the cables and the computers I tested before........for a while....... Because after ~4-5 days of usage the problem started to reappear more and more.
Now, as I just tested, the USB gets disconnected after only 5sec of reading from the device. Sometimes it lasts longer, like 2 min
So my opinion is that there is an electric problem, I would guess with the USB connector
Unfortunately for me, the service center even if they fixed the problem last time, they did NOT checked for it before fixing it and assumed everything was ok the first time and blaimed the USB cables/computers for the problem. They said something like "sadly, after checking the electrical connections and reflashing, the device works perfectly". And it did for a few days...
Here is an update:
I send the device for the 2nd time to the service center, this time calling them angry about not fixing it for the 1st time.
The device came back quickly. This time they opened the device (I can see it on the screws), and the USB connection actually WORKED!..........for a while.....
After 3-4 days it started disconnecting again, having less and less USB connection time.
Now I have to try to get it conencted, as sometimes it disconnects right after connecting

Shortcut to USB Mode??

I want to create a shortcut to the USB Mode selector screen i.e. Disc Mode/Active sync mode...Does anybody know what the File name is?
Thanks
sorry, i dont know what the executable is but im wondering why you would bother with this though?
when you plug in a usb cable the menu pops up automatically.
If it has stopped popping up automatically when you plug in, you can set it to ask again by going
settings - menu - all settings - connectioncs - USB to PC - tick ask me first
I've never thought about it before, but now that I do I can see the benefit of being able to toggle the connection type without having to unplug and then plug back in. I tend to have my device plugged in a lot, and I do worry that regular use of the connection will loosen it over a long period of time (as in, just long enough for the warranty to run out!)
I'm not sure though if the software is capable of switching connection types. Maybe it needs to be unplugged first.

I've tried software switching by going to (something like) settings, other, usb to pc, and changing the setting. To my knowledge, you can't hot-switch - the device needs to be unplugged first. If someone could prove me wrong I'd be very grateful because I too want to preserve my hd2 usb port.
EDIT!
Yes you can hot-switch!!!!! I'm so pleased to be proven wrong, especially by myself!

Connecting to computer broken screen activesync/mymobiler

Ok so my Vouge's screen busted on me and I was using mymobiler to use the phone till I got a replacement. Now I have a temporary phone and I will be getting an HTC HD2 and I would like to get everything off of my Touch and on to the HD2.
Problem is all of a sudden my phone does not want to connect to my computer with either ActiveSync or MyMobiler... I did not change anything that I can think off. The only difference I have noticed is before the phone use to stay lit up regardless of how long the phone was connected to the computer. Now all it will do is show the charging light but the screen dims after a a bit and then eventually turns off but still shows the charging light. As long as I have had this phone it never did this while connected to a computer it always stayed light up...
Is there anything thing I can do to get this to connect again?? Any help would be great, thanks in advance guys...

It might not do anything but it is worth a shot anyways. Take out the battery for a couple of seconds, put it back in, and turn on the device. Then, connect it back to the computer, but to a different USB port than the one you normally use.
Yeah I have tried that to though I used the same usb port so I will try it again after work... I don't understand what happened it worked fine like a week ago now nothing... I really would like to get the stuff off of it. Sprint told me the port may have went bad and I am going in Friday to have them look at it but still doesnt't seem like that is the issue.

I agree, otherwise it wouldn't even charge.
Yeah that is what I was thinking... but then again it is acting like I am using the wrong USB cord. Like I have a mini usb cord for my external hard drive and if I would use that it back when my phone worked it would do the same exact thing, just charge and not connect.
But I am using the cord provided by HTC and I even tried using my digital camera's cord because I know that one would work to before. Nothing... This is pissing me off I don't understand why it randomly doesn't want to work after 2 years of no issues...

Well, it could be that the reason why your screen failed was because of a problem with the electronics (board on the phone) and after such a long time using it, it finally gave up. Kinda like riding in your car with a nail in the tire. You can keep going, but eventually... it will give in.

It could simply be that something shorted. Have you tried to attach it to another computer?
Yeah... I guess I'm screwed unless the sprint store can do something for me when I go in there
Have you tried a different PC? (doubt this is the case, but...

Feeling smart?Help me solve this..

So the problem is the following: my nex 4 has suddenly stopped charging..it was 2 days ago.The strange part is that when the system runs i can't charge the phone. It looks like the phone recognizes that i put the usb cable into it,but it shows the no charging sign on the battery history menu point (and the battery is discharging). And the twist is: when the phone is fully off and i put the usb into it it charges normally(white accu on black screen)but as soon as i turn on,it stops.
I did hard reset many times...Im on stock 4.3(unlocked bootloader,no root)
I changed the cable.No progress
I use a converter cause here in Hungary we have a two pin system, but this is nothing cause it has always worked.
Btw,the phone runs normally.
Any ideas?
First,I would like to get a solution, not a "RMA it answer",it would be the last option.
Thank you for your time.
My first thought would be to try a wireless charger.

If you have tried a full hard reset then its probably a hardware issue, not a software one. Try a different charger anyways, that could be it. Or like you've said, RMA or if your feeling brave you can open the phone up to see if anything battery related is loose/disconnected

You can try. Ring up google in hungary and see if they will do it. Otherwise you would have to find someone you know in the uk to return it.
One other thing, have you tried charging from a pc, not the mains? You could try that

Hi, I Do think the converter does not meet the specifications, if your device is off it generates just enough power to trigger the charge-regulator in your nexus4 and the phone is charging; if it is switched on, the phone drains so much power from your battery and/or charging unit that there is not enough voltage/mA-Load to switch the charge-regulator in your nexus4 to "On". The power provided by a converter is no sinus wave, it has irregular spikes and waves and this might over the time-being has "weakened" your Nexus- Charger or the charging controller in your phone.. Try another converter/charger combination if possible with a converter with pure sinus-wave output.
By "Hard reset" do you mean a "factory reset"?
I have an issue when the phone temporarily stopped charging, but it was a particular rom.
You can try buying a charging board replacement from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/?_nkw=nexus%204%20usb%20charging%20replacement

This. If you just went into settings and hit factory reset, it just wipes data, not the system. Try downloading the google images (Or wait for the KitKat OTA)
