Feeling smart?Help me solve this.. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So the problem is the following: my nex 4 has suddenly stopped charging..it was 2 days ago.The strange part is that when the system runs i can't charge the phone. It looks like the phone recognizes that i put the usb cable into it,but it shows the no charging sign on the battery history menu point (and the battery is discharging). And the twist is: when the phone is fully off and i put the usb into it it charges normally(white accu on black screen)but as soon as i turn on,it stops.
I did hard reset many times...Im on stock 4.3(unlocked bootloader,no root)
I changed the cable.No progress
I use a converter cause here in Hungary we have a two pin system, but this is nothing cause it has always worked.
Btw,the phone runs normally.
Any ideas?
First,I would like to get a solution, not a "RMA it answer",it would be the last option.
Thank you for your time.

My first thought would be to try a wireless charger.

This is a second option for me too.It just steps over the problem. But this will be my backup plan.Any further idea would be appreciated.

I've had this exact issue before.
Ended up being a problem with SuperSU.

If you have tried a full hard reset then its probably a hardware issue, not a software one. Try a different charger anyways, that could be it. Or like you've said, RMA or if your feeling brave you can open the phone up to see if anything battery related is loose/disconnected

Yes this was my first thought too.I just wanted to stay away from this thing,it's a little bit tricky when the phone is from England and I'm a thousand km away. But looks like I have no choice. Thanks for the confirmation.Any thoughts about the RMA?Will they repair it?Or Changing it?

You can try. Ring up google in hungary and see if they will do it. Otherwise you would have to find someone you know in the uk to return it.
One other thing, have you tried charging from a pc, not the mains? You could try that

Hi, I Do think the converter does not meet the specifications, if your device is off it generates just enough power to trigger the charge-regulator in your nexus4 and the phone is charging; if it is switched on, the phone drains so much power from your battery and/or charging unit that there is not enough voltage/mA-Load to switch the charge-regulator in your nexus4 to "On". The power provided by a converter is no sinus wave, it has irregular spikes and waves and this might over the time-being has "weakened" your Nexus- Charger or the charging controller in your phone.. Try another converter/charger combination if possible with a converter with pure sinus-wave output.

By "Hard reset" do you mean a "factory reset"?

I have an issue when the phone temporarily stopped charging, but it was a particular rom.
You can try buying a charging board replacement from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/?_nkw=nexus%204%20usb%20charging%20replacement

This. If you just went into settings and hit factory reset, it just wipes data, not the system. Try downloading the google images (Or wait for the KitKat OTA)

Charging Problem.. Please Help!

So I charged my phone this morning and it was working fine, but after a while it just stopped.. and now my phone will not charge when i connect the usb plug to the computer or the the power adapter! I can still put my phone into flash mode through usb though, which is weird... but other then that.. it doesn't do anything! Anyone have any ideas?
I just realized that it doesn't flash either (just the green light comes on, but that is about it). I've also done a factory reset.. Nothing happened... I've searched around google and found no solution. People have said it has to do with a faulty battery, but I have no idea since I don't have another battery. I called up rogers though, and they said that they will replace, free of charge. But I am still curious too why it might have happened. My phone was rooted; does it have something to do with that?
I had the same problem with my phone after root. I returned it to sony for repair.
Have you tried a different cable?

I had the same issue with my X10 but it turned out that it was a faulty cable. I tried a friends cable and it worked right away. Rogers simply gave me a new one and its been fine ever since.
Anyways, its good that you are getting yours replaced... either way... you'll get it to work.

No charge, no sync - loose MHL cable port.

Only had mine 3 weeks and its broken already. I have been using a desktop charger and have not been forcing it in at all, not once, I have always been very gentle inserting it it, anyway it no longer charges, it looks like the connectors have pushed themselves back so they are not flush anymore and thus no longer connecting to charge or sync.
Not happy about this at all, I had my desktop charger for my HD2 for 18 months with no problems at all, this suggest a very weak connector.
!!! BE CAREFUL !!!
Going to call in at Phones4you and see if they will swap it, I don't hold out much hope though.
Wow bad luck man, but really you don't need the F word to express your frustration.

was it an official desktop charger or 3rd party?
DO a factory reset using code *2767*3855#
(please not this will wipe everything including built in memory, so do backup before you proceed. Backup possible by moving content of internal memory to SD card by copy paste in file manager)
I had a problem when my phone stopped charging after I upgraded firmware, It would also launch Connected to computer screen when it wasnt . Thought its dead.
Did factory reset using this code and its working flawlessly ever since. Seems to be some kind of bug which happens out of nowhere as 2 people I know have experienced this after upgrading to KE2.

I was going to ask exactly the same thing...
I think the OP means that the micro usb receptacle has come away from the board and has been pushed back into the body of the phone. I hope this is not going to turn out to be a common problem as it's something that seemed plague to the Nokia N900 and it took ages for Nokia to acknowledge a design/production fault.
great advice, now it wont boot at all, just goes round in circles....
F**cked.....
anyone got any ideas?
Hi, the charger isnt really the issue, i haven't had any problems inserting the phone into the charger, ie no resistance which suggests to me it was week or loose and has gradually pushed it self back over the last 2 weeks since I have had the charger. If thats the case it would have done this with any charger or cable.
Just spoke to phones4you, they are going to exchange it for me, they didnt even grumble after I told them what happened which I thought was odd, heading off now to pick it up.
Will be interesting to see if your wifi is any better on the new phone stoolzo. Maybe you could let us know. Thanks.

remove and reinsert battery
i had this issue when running custom kernels. somehow doesnt happen with stock.
issue happens like this:
u go to bed while charging
u wake up and the phoneis off or very hot with battery and temperature warning
u reboot and it doesnt reboot, doesn't boot, just goes in circle battery display/reboot cause it doesnt seem to charge neither have enough power to boot.
removing battery + cable then putting both back = it boots again and charge normally

Yeah, did all the usual things, I have bricked phones before and always managed to turn them around but we have no CMR to flash anything from ROOT/SD so when it wouldn't boot after a factory reset I knew I was in trouble
The MHL port being loose was the tell tale sign of a fault as I hadn't misused it at all. When I compared it to my new phone I got today it was defo a little further back, just enough to prevent it connecting.
Good old phones4you, fault report to phone exchange in under an hour, impressive.
Just in case the charger had anything to do with this I am going to get rid, dont think it did but I don't want to risk it.
its this one:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/desk-dock-for-samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-p29488.htm

[S] Another bricked, won't even start, Kindle Fire

I've tried the Kindle Unbrick Utility, but it never found the device because it won't even turn on. Not a hint of a button glow, nor relief from the 20 second hard reset solution. I am currently trying the 15 minute hard reset, as I am left with no logical conclusions as far as I am concerned. Help me geniuses?
Are there any brave souls out there? I'm on the verge of giving up, so either tell me to suck it up and send it in, or give me constructive advice, please?
Does it have a charge? Put it on the charger for a couple hours and try again.

It was fully charged and plugged in to my computer when I first shut it down and attempted to turn it back on. I will leave it on the wall charger all night, and hope for the best in the morning. Good suggestion.
Still not turning on. I suppose I know what needs to happen next..
Make sure your using the correct charging cable. My wife had a similar issue with charging only and it turns out she was trying to charge using another cable. I noticed that the kindle fire charges at a different voltage than say her HTC Evo 4g. Same cable connection USB mini B but very different voltages for charging.
Next thing to try would be a factory cable and see if you can force it to boot into Fastboot. If it does recovery from there is possible.
It is on the factory charger now, but what do I try now? I've just tried the 20 second hard reset while on the factory charger, yet still no luck.
When its charging does the power button light up green or orange?

Well, I am unsure whether or not to make one of those. As long as the Kindle Fire doesn't turn on, nor does a green or orange light glow, I think I will ship it back (since it will be free and I have no money for investments right now). Yes, I've rooted it and also added TWRP to it, but since I've tried methods the people at Amazon would try (besides the factory cable), I'm rather certain it will not void the warranty, and a new one will sit comfortably in my hands.
Would any one else consider this question solved? (so I can change the status of the thread)
sound really like a hw failure - amazon don't look very close

I read on random forums, and the Amazon forum, that the shipping will be free as long as they can't fix it, meaning there are no obvious fixes (like a hardware failure), and they replace it with a brand new copy. I'm not sure that is the correct truth though.
as i have read from many others here - they simply send you a new one without looking very closely
many people got for a new one allthrough it would have been easy to fix
many with much minor problem as you have
and if a device is fixable and someone want to fix it i help them to do
but for me your device seems not fixable - as i said - i think hw failure
return it - go for a new one and don't worry !

Yeah! As I talked with the woman who worked for Amazon's customer service, she asked me to try the hard reset option, and plugging it in to a computer and the wall charger. As I knew, they would not prove to be successful attempts.
I was eager to fix the Kindle Fire, but now I'm excited for this new one to play with!

Take it in for repair mate, it could be the battery, usb charging port or even your phone. No way we can tell from here. Btw i think the S5 is a great device, you`re just unlucky, it can happen sometimes.

To be sure try to unroot in the TR/superSU app, flash a stock rom and data factory reset.
As the follow up reply above suggests, you need to start by separating software from hardware issues. You can probably find out a lot more information by looking at the system log i.e. run a logcat to get more verbose details about the charging error. Depending on what you find there, you could proceed to steps such as resetting the battery stats or the suggestions that follow in this post.
If you aren't willing to do a logcat then the first thing that you should try is booting to recovery mode and wipe the system cache That may well resolve your issue right there.
If not, then heed the advice in the previous post. Backup anything important to you, then flash a 100% stock ROM, followed by a factory data reset. If that resolves the issue then the cause was almost certainly corrupt system files or settings.
If the problem still remains, then you have to start looking at hardware causes, starting with trying a different cable, different battery, gently rocking the cable in the USB socket at the base of the phone to try and discern if the pins are bent or making irregular contact, etc.
Whether the problem would be repaired free of charge under warranty is uncertain as we don't know yet if the cause is an unexpected failure or something that might be attributed to abuse e.g. dropped phone or damage to the USB port from rough use.

My H990DS is stuck in Firmware Update (910K B50)

Hi, my phone is H990DS and is stuck in Firmware Update screen with error 910K B50.
I tried to flash first "H990ds10i" firmware and after the H990ds10c_00_OPEN_SG_DS_OP_1214.kdz firmware creating proper LG.dll files but my phone doesn't restart and it is stuck on Firmware Update screen.
I also tried to use LG Flash Tool 2014 but the program crashes all times..
How can I fix my phone?
Do you know what is my problem?
edit: LG Flash Tool 2014 doesn't close anymore but to about 10% in bar progress says me to contact the administrator
I don' t know if is it the worth to use ADB but I don't know anything about this..
Please help me...
I succeeded to use the Lg Flash Tool 2014 but I get the same Lg Up's outcome..

The issue is solved only partially because if you restart the phone it shows Firmware Update screen and only when you spray alcool into plug charger and you try many times plugging the charger that you can boot the phone fine.
Anyway I get many errors and I can't create sms and WhatsApp backups...
Anyway I think that it's a hardware failure...

Just to clarify, you sprayed perfume on the USB-C Charging port?
EDIT: Holy crap it worked. I sprayed perfume on the USB-C port and it worked.
man you literally are a savior !!!.. i had this problem and i searched every article there is on internet about firmware stuck screen, i watched every single video on youtube but nothing worked i installed every lg software there is on my pc but it wouldn't let me connect to my computer. but your spray perfume trick worked like a charm man. i am sincerely thankful to you man.

What causes this to work? I just tried this and it worked
How do you even figure something like this out? Insane.
First of all i didnt belive it at all but after flashing and reading 2days give it a try. Procedure is simple put usb type c cable in some alchohole connect chager in wall and connect phone and voila erasing and restarting thanks everybody on this trade.
This is one of the strangest technical things ever happened to me and I'm an engineer - the spraying works! After many hours of trying to solve the problem in whatever way offered or conceived I said what the hell let's spary. I suspect that maybe the spraying shortcuts the connectors or adjacent circuit for a short time and makes some effect otherwise I have no logical explanation to the fact that it works.

I wonder how did you find about this. Not having the issue, just interested.
Lol! I have an LG tablet that was stuck on 910k b0 firmware update screen. Tried 3 shots of hand sanitizer spray, did the shut down with POWER + Volume down button for 5 seconds, plugged back the power, and now it is charging properly. Either the connection was dirty, either the battery was so dead, i dont care, the spray worked... I thought it was a joke but i was so desperate that i tried it. Thanks for posting that solution !
Just made an account on this random ass website (I've actually seen it before but I have no care to be here...) to say thanks and that this trick worked for me.
I left my phone outside in the cold and I came back to this exact error. In WTF mode i searched it on google and found this post. This worked. Not exactly sure what's going on here lmao. My battery is dead though I am charging it now, I suspect this is part of the reason why.
I am a regular person and this random trick actually worked. What are you smoking LG?????
