Cab HELP - HD2 General

Does installing a .cab file onto my phone take up RAM? i am kind of afraid if i install programs to my SD card because i think it will slow down my phone, can someone please tell me if this is possible? And does it matter how many programs i install because already i plan to install around 30.

Installing any cab to the internel memory will take up some of your internal memory
If possible install to memory card
Re programs as long as you do not want to run them all at the same time should not be a problem

but this does not mean it will use space in your ram. Installing progs has no effect on ram, only rom space or sd card space. Progs ONLY use RAM when they are actively running.

memory on the Wizrd (Storage / Program)

Hey
My phone is saying I have 2.79MB of storage left but 16.51MB of Program space. Yet it wont let me install any new programs because of a lack of space! :-( Anyway to get this to work?
I would suggest you do some searches on memory and Windows Mobile 5 to learn more about how the different kinds of memory are used.
In a nutshell--storage space (or a memory card) is where you install programs and is analogous to a desktop computers hard drive. Program memory is the equivalent of the RAM in a desktop computer and is used by programs as they are running. You cannot use the program memory for installation of programs.
Have you purchased a mini-SD card for use with your Wizard? If you have a memory card inserted when you install software, you will be given the option of installing to the memory card. (Don't install things like Today screen add-ins and software that will need to run at startup on memory cards.)
Good luck.

Ah right I see. For some reason its not allowing me to install tomtom on my memory card, Ill just have to swap things about I think.
Thanks for your help

What are the pros and cons of installing to external SD card

Just going to re-install everything onto my new TyTN. Can someone pls tell me what are the pros and con of installing progs onto the external microSD as opposed to the internal memory. I'm thinking that if we free as much internal memory as possible, progs should run faster.
just a few Progs I'm going to install:
Agenda fusion
SPB backup/Pocket Plus/Diary
Resco explorer
Pocket DIVX
Speed of the card is the main issue. I have a miniSD that does pretty good for installing apps on, but there's some things that it's just too slow. Depends on the app really. Generally speaking though, if I can live with it going slightly slower, I will install to miniSD, since I only use one card anyway.
If you swap cards frequently it is probably better to install the critical apps on the internal memory.
Re: What are the pros and cons of installing to external SD
Pros:
1. Have more space to install apps (I think that's the main reason)
Cons:
1. Apps won't work if card is taken off
2. If you install backup software to card, you won't be able to restore the backup file.
But in my case, I don't really interchage my mini SD card. I have 1GB and so far I've been using about 100MB where around 60MB is apps and the other 40MB is the overhead from the card and I install most apps to the card except Spb Pocket Plus

3. If you install an app to an SD card that is for example a today plugin - this could cause your device to hang as there is a slight delay in accessing storage cards when your device wakes up.

Please explain Storage v Program memory to me

When viewing memory in System the capacity and availability of Program and Storage memory is shown.
When I install a program, does it get put into program memory? If not, how do I put it there as there's certainly a bunch of space going free.
Thanks.
Storage memory is the MircoSD card, Program memory is the card's internal memory.
Are you sure?
It's there without a storage card!
Go to Settings/System/Memory
The difference between storage and program memory that you are refferring to is how much memory do you have to store programs and such on your device, while the program memory refers to how much memory you have to run and execute a program on your device. When you insatll a program it goes to the storage memory and when you execute or run that program it runs and uses the program memory.

prolly simpler if you consider program memory as RAM and storage memory as HDD.. and SD card as extra storage..
Thanks for the replies, it's appreciated.

coz my phone have like 20MB free memory after inastalling WM5

can i install WM5 in SD card ? so all programs wimm go directly to SD
or any other soultion ?
help me plz !
any one plz ?
u also can say no :\
No, unfortunately you cant use memory card as device memory It depends on given application whether you can install it on card or not... most of it would install some parts in device memory even if you've chosen memory card... usually link files. Your only solution is to find "big storage" rom for your device and flash it.

Storage memory 97%?

I have a lot of storage card space (75%) and program memory (46%), but my storage memory is 97%? I have a lot of programs install, but can I change this percent ratio? Is this mean that I can`t install any new programs?? Anybody can solution for this problem?? I have HTC HD2 winmobile 6.5....

Your Programs Memory is RAM
Your Storage Card is the SD card
Your Storage Memory is your built-in storage.
You will need to install programs to your Storage Card, and/or uninstall other programs and reinstall them to the Storage Card.
All my programs are install on storage card. Only one or two programs I have install on my device....

In that case, try searching these forums for the HTC album cache tweak, and for clean up programs.
I find some junk in device space and erase it...
