When viewing memory in System the capacity and availability of Program and Storage memory is shown.
When I install a program, does it get put into program memory? If not, how do I put it there as there's certainly a bunch of space going free.
Thanks.
Storage memory is the MircoSD card, Program memory is the card's internal memory.
Are you sure?
It's there without a storage card!
Go to Settings/System/Memory
The difference between storage and program memory that you are refferring to is how much memory do you have to store programs and such on your device, while the program memory refers to how much memory you have to run and execute a program on your device. When you insatll a program it goes to the storage memory and when you execute or run that program it runs and uses the program memory.

prolly simpler if you consider program memory as RAM and storage memory as HDD.. and SD card as extra storage..
Thanks for the replies, it's appreciated.

Hey
My phone is saying I have 2.79MB of storage left but 16.51MB of Program space. Yet it wont let me install any new programs because of a lack of space! :-( Anyway to get this to work?
I would suggest you do some searches on memory and Windows Mobile 5 to learn more about how the different kinds of memory are used.
In a nutshell--storage space (or a memory card) is where you install programs and is analogous to a desktop computers hard drive. Program memory is the equivalent of the RAM in a desktop computer and is used by programs as they are running. You cannot use the program memory for installation of programs.
Have you purchased a mini-SD card for use with your Wizard? If you have a memory card inserted when you install software, you will be given the option of installing to the memory card. (Don't install things like Today screen add-ins and software that will need to run at startup on memory cards.)
Good luck.

Ah right I see. For some reason its not allowing me to install tomtom on my memory card, Ill just have to swap things about I think.
Thanks for your help
Hallo everyone,
I just get my SGS and I notice that the memory structure is so defined:
- The internal storage memory (8Gb, but i see only 5,7) is called "SDcard"
- the phisical external Sd card is seen as a directory, called "SD" under the SDcard.
Now my questions are:
When I install big seized programs,e.g. Navigators, all the program data are by default stored in the internal memory, which is limited and fix (not expandable). I would install the navigation map on the exernal Sd.
Is this a problem of Android or just how SGS impemented it? Is it possible to make the external card be rocognised as primary SDcard?
- Why the internal memory is only 5,7Gb? ok 8Gb are theoretical but 2,3 GB less ....
Thanks
Bye
The reason it's so small is because the OS and it's apps have to go somewhere, also when Froyo is released you'll be able to install apps directly to the SD card but know that internal memory is much faster than an SD card so you may what to keep that in mind when you factor in what apps to install to SD.
Hallo Sebrina,
thanks for the answer, I supposed the 2,3 Gb were for the OS, in fact the space for application is 1,8GB, but I hoped the two memorys are separated.
So with froyo will be able really to install the app on the real Sd card, and not on the internal memory, whichist called "SDcard" by the os?
Thanks
bye

is it possible to re-partition the internal SD?
What is the internal storage used for? seems apps are entirely installed on the SDcard by default which loads up my 2gb card. I know the system files are on the internal but other than that it has 6.5gb of free space.
I guess my question is, is there any way to split application files so that only my data for the applications are on the SD and the program files are on the internal?
My apps are installed to my internal memory. Also I have my pictures set to be saved to internal. There is also an option in the browser to store downloaded files onto internal memory. I'm running stock 2.1.

I can't work this out is the ram divided into storage and programs?
If so why is deleting programs free-ing up my 'free storage'. If I install programs will it use up the 'storage' not programs?
My phone has been coming up with error messages that there is not enough memory I think this is because the free storage only has 5mb free- I can't find anything to do except delete loads of programs until there is some 'free storage' umm free.
What else is using the storage (as opposed to programs?)
Thanks
Storage memory is rom, program memory is ram. Adding/removing apps will affect the storage memory, not program memory.
Not enough memory errors are ram, and nothing to do with how many programs are installed.
Common cause of low program memory is running a 3.14 rom on any spl that isn't 3.03.0000 or 3.03.hspl
"What else uses storage" - everything you install, all your data, everything uses storage.
In PC terms, storage memory is disk space, program memory is ram.
Hi,
Xolo q700 has 4GB internal memory bifurcated as ROM+Internal Storage+Phone Storage, with Internal Storage ~1GB and Phone Storage ~2GB
Most of the time, I use SD card instead of Phone Storage and I am finding that the free Internal Storage has come down to ~60 MB. I can't install many apps because of this.
I was trying to see if we can re-partition the Internal Memory to have more Internal Storage by getting space from Phone Storage. I don't want to use Link2SD because I can't run most apps if I remove the SD card. Also don't want to keep apps data on SD card.
I came across many threads, but by far [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240954] looks the simplest.
Anyone else has done something similar to their q700/q700i?
Admin/Devs, can you help us?
Thanks,

You Can Use Meteos App for that, here is guide for Q700/Q700i by @raja4sure : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2668599
