Help - Micro-SD card not working - Touch GSM General

I've been trying to get this 512mb, nokia-branded microSD card to work on my elfin. I formatted in both fat16 and fat32. None seems to work. Sometimes the phone recognizes that there's a card in there but gives me a 0mb reading and shows "bluetooth" as an option for some reason (I think this happens on fat16 scenarios)
Any ideas to get this working? The windows format utility doesn't let me change cluster size. Could that be the problem here? And if so, what do I use to format instead?

Does MiniSD card need to be specially formatted?

Right now its FAT, I never formatted it, I just jammed it into the device.
Should I format FAT32? Anyone know?
TIA.
Best to stay FAT if you format to FAT32 your device may not recognize your card. If you ever do format it - do it on the device using storage tools or sktools.
I've used only one of my two 1gb mini-SD's to hold PocketMusic program files and MP3's. I think it was formatted FAT to begin with, but I was unable to copy more than 400mb to the card until I reformatted it to FAT32. It then loaded up with MP3's and there have been no problems. I did the formatting on the PC, not the MDA.
Any card >2gb will require FAT32 formatting, as 2gb is the limit for FAT16.

Maximun SD card size

Hi
I bought my wife an XDA II a while ago on ebay -- all works fine but....
.... it's working on a 256mb SD card.
I now have a spare 1G and 2G SD card and trying to use them --- and they will not write or format
message ranges from "write protected" to "device in use" to "write failed"
Any ideas? - are they too new? are they too big, or do I need a special format program.
Cheers
Mike
I asked qtek about the maximum SD-card size. They said 2Gb, so I bought that. It is a 150x fast card. It works fine! Would like to have a 4Gb thou!
I have had no problems with my other SD-cards either (512kb and 1Gb). (All of them had been used in cameras before, no extra formatting needed).
Thanks for your reply, I will try a soft reset and then try again
Nothing I do works.
I have even tried Panasonic SDFormatter incase it's the formatting.
All errors so far this time say that the card is write protected - but it's not
Mmmmm
I've got it ...
Checked all the messages about SD cards and one suggested a fix.
It's physical - I just need a label over the write protect switch
also remember to format teh card from your pc in a card reader, and dont format as fat32, it must be fat16 or just fat, my m1000 hates fat32 and wont let me reformat or read the card.

[Q] Any way to flash the microSD to FAT16?

Ok, I need to format a microSD card to FAT16. Everyone online asks for reasoning for why this needs to be done: I need to flash the BIOS on my EEEPC 1000HE to resolve a Windows 7 install, but for whatever reason at bootup the BIOS only enables flashing from FAT16 storage. All of my machines run Windows 7, and Windows 7 inexplicably removes FAT16 formatting altogether; it is not even possible with third-party programs.
Does anyone know of any utilities that can reliably format the microSDHC card to FAT16? I have tried SKTools' format but it only seems to do FAT32, even though the option for FAT16 is there it ignores it and does FAT32. The Format Storage card also only does FAT32 with no options.
Is there any hardware limitation, either in the HD2 or microSDHC card, that would prevent me from formatting to FAT16? Windows Mobile and the HD2 are my only hope for right now until I get ahold of an XP machine.
EDIT: I understand FAT16 limits volumes to 4GB.. I am wondering if this is the problem.

i would think so, yes. You can probably try some of teh advanced partitioning programs to create only a 4gb partition, but i would guess its still hit and miss, and im not sure if its even possible on removeable media, , probably far easier to get hold of a 2gb card or smaller. (Irony is i have a pile, i mean PILE of 126,256 and 512 meg cards right here, there must be about 60, from a place i used to work.)

I have read a number of articles about not being able to reuse a sd card after it was used by windows phone 7. Does that also applied to those of us HD2 owners who are running WP7?
I have a 16gb card that is only using 4gb for WP7 because I formatted the other 12gb as fat 32 for Android.
Is there a way I can unformat the 12gb so that WP7 can use it. Or can I use the card and start all over by reinstalling WP7 and let it partition the card to use all but 200mb of the 16gb card?
Here is one of the articles I read about the sd card not being swappable:

This is the HD2 Forum
Do a Full Format using the Utility I have attached.
Ok i downloaded the file and installed it. but when i choose format it tells me that the lock switch is on. Iv checked and rechecked but there is no lock switch on my sd card adapter.
Please help?
Hmm
I have the specific problem addressed (199Mb partition on a 16GB drive)
this program does not address it, it just allows me to reformat the 199Mb drive :-(
I will use fdisk or similar to resolve myself - but it doen't look as if this app "does what it says on the tin" ?
Try HP Low Level format tool, it always deleted my partitions on every device without problems
Hi
Thanks for this wonderfull tool, I downloaded this tool, installed in on Windows Vista, it formated my SD card wonderfully and even displayed the total space available, however now Windows refuses to recognise my SD card, and when I reconnected the SD card, neither your app nor Windows recognises the device.
Any suggestions.
thanks you just downloaded.

Windows Phone 7 uses the SDCard and the NAND memory together as internal storage, in a unique partition (like RAID for PCs, something similiar).
If you format your SD Card, you have to reset your phone.
You don't have to use any special tool, just use diskpart tool within Windows from command line (diskpart -> list disk -> select disk X -> select partition X -> delete -> select partition X -> delete -> create partition fs=ntfs -> DONE).
I have a 16 gb card, came with my HD2. I have run XBMod rom since it all came out months ago, no issues with the rom or the card.
When nodo came out, I tried another rom, phone started rebooting. I tried diskpart, cleaned the drive, recreated the partition as fat32. Let WP7 format, no help. Any ideas?
Successfully formatted my MicroSD
Just popped it in my Nikon D90 and it asked me do you wish to format. I said yes. Done in few seconds.
For others who see this, if you have used your card with WP7 mango you need a newer Nokia to format the card, as it will be encrypted, and Windows woun't recognize it!
/cry

This seems to be the only way to format the card once Mango is flashed. I have a 16GB card, but it didn't get any fat32 partitions, and it isn't recognized in any OS I try it on (Win7, Linux, OSX, Winmo 6.5, and now a new installation of WP7 doesn't see it either). If anyone finds another way, that would be awesome.

I am having the same issue.. can't format my 16GB after coming from Mango. Tried a bunch of software and no luck. Tried from different android phones with no luck. I guess the nokia d90 is one way to format the 16gb.
There has to be another way!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242071 these devices have been confirmed to format sd card
Or use the storage_unlock.cab from xbmod
whilst you have wp7 installed send the storage unlock.cab to phone then send 1gb partition cab reset the phone from about..check if partition took effect first..press storage unlock on homepage tile .turn phone off your pc should recognise the sd card in sd card adapter for example it should read 7gb instead of 8gb use easeus partition tool to fully reformat
"download easeus partition master
find your sd on the screen by plugging it in and clicking refresh (arrows), your sd should show up as disk 2 or 3 and should have two sections FAT32 and unformatted.
right click on the unformatted section and choose delete then click on "apply"(or tick) button above
right click on your 1 gb FAT32 partition and chose resize
move the slider(click and hold on the separating bar between the two partitions) to increase the size to the whole volume then click apply
right click on the volume again and choose format primary,FAT32, 32kb sectors then apply.
That should do it.". Thanks to robbie p

Could you be more specific ?
I'm trying to get my sdcard back after many failed attempts to reach Mango. Just want to go back to Android where everything is so much simpler...
How should I use the locker.cab exactly to get my 8gb sd card back ? I tried several times but always failed.
I have to push the cab while running WP7 wait for reboot then what ? I read that booting again in WP7 from there will lock it again. What should I do ??

Camera issue on RAFDROID HD 3.2.2

Everything on the ROM works great , however I'm having an issue getting the camera to work it keeps saying no sd card found ......
I'm not sure what the setup is suppose to be on the SD card,
I've tried fat32 primary then ext 3
then fat32 prim them fat 32 again
anyone help me out
Had a similar problem with another build which worked well but it couldn't find the SD where it(self) was installed.
I have tried 3.2.2 and the camera works fine so probably it is better to just reinstall the OS.
I don't understand why you had an ext3 partition I did use just a fat32 and it worked fine.
Paolo
it's my understanding that you should start with a nice clean format so format the whole sd card.
then get a partition program of your choice that can do what is needed.
move resize the first primary fat32 so that you have unallocated space of 1024. that space then needs to be assigned primary ext3. then format and that's what i did with my card and all seems fine.
then format and all should be good at least that's what i did with the partition program.
maybe your sd card isn't reading right i also read some cards were hit or miss on rafdroid.
I've tried different cards from different manu's still nothing tried formtaing differently same result, not sure what I'm missing
Not sure if you solved your problem. I had the same issue with SD RAFDROID 4.2 on a 16GB class4 SanDisk microSD card.
original partitions were:
FAT32 - 64K block size - primary
ext3
linuxswap
RAFDROID didn't detect an SD card when it came to camera and other operations that were SD dependant.
I used minitool and changed the partitions to a single FAT32 partition, with 32K bloxk size and set to primary and it worked like a charm ... this build is really good!
You may wanna backup the folders on your SD to your pc.
