And where did u hear these rumors coming from? As far as I know 2.2 is the only thing keeping developers busy these coming months...
besides that they've called it after bakery every time so why stop all of the sudden?
They are still using the "treats" naming theme. The next version has been confirmed by Google to be called FroYo. Short for Frozen Yogort. The version after FroYo has also been stated by Google to be called Gingerbread.
Also, 2.0 is eclair. 2.1 was merely an update.

Flash support on magic ?
- It is possible to get flash support on my HTC Magic without installing Hero rom ?
I love the default Rom on my magic, so if it posseble to keep it without installing hero Rom every thing would be great.
//camper
I do not believe there are any roms out there for the Magic that have Multitouch or Flash without the Hero business. This is exactly what I am waiting for too, a good stock Magic rom with Multitouch and Flash. I know that 2.0 will have multitouch when it is released (currently released to developers) so hopefully it will include flash too.
No it's not possible, it might be when/if HTC releases the Sense kernel.

If your referring to doughnut, it's not 2.0, and it does not have multitouch support. That was a "jump of the gun" by a DEV.

I was not referring to the branch of code they are calling Doughnut but the 2.0 os that will one day be released.
http://androidcommunity.com/android-os-2-0-donut-released-to-devs-multitouch-cdma-and-more-20090726/
It looks like they released some peices of the 2.0 to developers, like a sneak peak a week or so ago. It says Multitouch included, let's keep our hopes up.
Posted the day after that article:
http://androidcommunity.com/donut-details-continue-its-not-os-2-0-and-theres-no-multitouch-says-official-dev-20090727/
Nothing in that second article says that 2.0 will not have multitouch (or that it will). It only clarifies that Doughnut is not the same thing as 2.0, which we already knew. Bummer that the peices of 2.0 that have been released for dev testing don't contain Multitouch.
I sure would like to fire this Hero rom down in the garbage!
Swedish android site swedroid.se published a little snippet from a members communication with HTC about 1.6 for HERO.
Dear HTC customer,
The Hero will not be receiving the Android 1.6 upgrade, it will however get the 2.0 one. Do note however that we do not have a confirmed release date for this upgrade, all I can recommend at the moment is that you keep yourself updated by visiting our website regularly as the latest information will be available to view from there.
Best regards,

If we get 2.0 not to far from now I really won't miss 1.6 either really. Kernel sources + 2.0 in a not so distant future is acceptable if 1.6 is not released. Thoughts?
Really????
I was looking forward to the release of 1.6 for my Hero!
Ah well, roll on Android 2.0, Hopefully this will be very soon.
I wont miss 1.6, i'd rather get 2.0 and skip donut all together.
2.0 gets free google nav software
Hmm - i prefer small incremental updates.
2.0 will be atleast 2(?) months off?
maybe, i think by christmas...wouldn't that be nice
1.6 was a nice to have, but 2.0 looks like it's going to improve quite a few. Lets hope they get it out soon, looks like the Moto Droid is already running 2.0 - released Nov 6th.

Thx for this update. I was in contact with HTC via email recently (about 2 weeks) and at this time they told me they don't know yet if an updated ROM based on 1.6 will be released (and when).
Today I wrote them again regarding 2.0 (before I saw this thread), so I'll keep you up to date here as soon they get back to me ...
...then I waiting Android 2.0
Is good.
This is also confirmed on the HTC Twitter feed.. http://twitter.com/htc
is this going to be for gsm again and no cdma?!
dose any one think there will be a port of 2.2 standard build to the Hero as this would be a good thing as it has flash & jit built in.

I don't think so..
I don't believe that HTC will invest money and time to develop it..
I doubt HTC would invest in a port anyway.. But I sure see some chance of the Legend being updated and this rom being portable by some rom genius to the Hero, why not?
Assuming there are any Hero's existing at the time an actual update to 2.2 will be available for the Legend
Ofcourse. This doesn't need to be done by HTC.
We've seen many ports for the Hero. We had 1.6 and then 2.1 ported to the Hero, before the Legend roms were even leaked. Just recently the MyTouch Slide (HTC Espresso) has been ported to the Hero, so I don't see why we won't see 2.2 (Froyo) on the Hero.
It's not only down to porting it from the Legend, we could see a port from a new device, not yet released.
There's no point waiting for HTC to officially release 2.1 or 2.2. The custom roms on here are a better option and to be honest, I don't think I'll even update to the official 2.1 release when it eventually comes out, because Sense on the MyTouch Slide port is far better. Obviously I will if they update to this new version of Sense, but I doubt they'll do that.
But yes, I'm confident we will see Froyo on the Hero, not officially from HTC however.
wtf is this!2.2?They sureley havent finished 2.1 yet!

I think minor updates like 2.2 should be easily possible after the HTC Hero gets the OTA Update possibility during the 2.1 update.
I don't think that HTC needs to put in much ressources for minor updates.
At least this is what i expect, because if EVERY minor update is handled like the 2.1 one with long delays, then many people will think twice before getting an HTC device. But only time will tell...
from what i read it would have to be custom 2.2 as it will have jit built in and the sense ui is not compatable yet. also woulnt 2.1 drivers be easyer to port to 2.2 than 1.5 to 2.1.
Sent from my aHero using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I don't think the hero will be able to keep up enough to run 2.2.
Since it has flash 10.1 and the hero isn't powerful enough to run it. Maybe a cleaned out version.
i dont mind about flash as i wouldnt use it for videos as android has a youtube app for most the videos i watch would be ok for other flash stuff but i know what you mean about speed but the hero as standard came with htc flash and thhat worked ok

Well, in my humble opinion, with some overcloacking, and jit, i think we could think about running 2.2, so in my opinion yes, there is a possibility, the problem is to get a 2.2 kernel source...
I'd love getting 2.2 on my Hero, with all the auto-updating and individual stock program updates automatically being pushed to your device.
There will be no 2.2 for Heros ... and Google (not HTC) is the reason for this. For Froyo they will upgrade the kernel from 2.6.29 (used for Android 1.6,2.0,2.1) to 2.6.3x and no one at HTC will take the effort to update the drivers for the Hero. There will be minor bug fixes for the 2.1 Hero release, but no major upgrade in future.
Google sucks, HTC sucks and if they keep it this way, Android fragmentation will suck even more.

How does using the latest kernel (with bug fixes, and many new features) make it google's fault. It's HTC who won't be bothered to update drivers etc (to be fair on them, the hero is an old handset for them and there's no point for them to do it)
Whatever bugs are in the kernel, Google already fixed/patched them for the Android 2.6.29 kernel. The kernel adaption they are doing are minor (power management, OpenBinder, etc.). So there is no real reason to upgrade that often. They kept the kernel stable for 3 version and now they are breaking compatibility again - why?
Look at MontaVista, Windriver and many others that do embedded Linux and guess how often they update kernels? However I agree with you that Heros will possibly not be able to run Froyo properly anyhow, so why bother with them? Overall it is a frustrating experience - but don't get me wrong here, despite this update odysee I am more than happy with my Android powered device and my next one will be Android again. Maybe not from HTC, and maybe I will not be awaiting any updates that eagerly again but let's see what comes next.
The chances of getting 2.2 are practically none. As has been stated, 2.2 will be using an upgraded kernel from 2.1. The only reason we have 2.1 ROM's at the moment is because there was a hacked leaked kernel from HTC (which is why it is buggy and has poor battery life), so unless HTC actually commit to an official release for the hero, even the geniuses here at XDA wouldn't be able to get 2.2 running on our Hero's.
Waiting for official android 2.1 is finally over !
I already have it, rooted version and it is really fast and nice.
I have run benchmark test and our Hero is rated very bad, with 220 points.
Nexus one has for example over 1250 points. But 2.2 version
Is there a hope for us to get 2.2 in next few months because that would be a huge step forward? (2.2 is 450% faster than 1.1 as you know)
No based on HTC's form with the Hero up until now.
It'd be nice to see it come out officially, but I can't see it happening sadly.

Is there a way , to install a Custom 2.2 android? Maybe someone will cook it up
ill get 2.1 on first /(rooted) then take it from there
Some devs are working on Froyo for Hero. It will be a port. There's no complete ROM right now, but if you can live with that:
What works:
-New Launcher2
-2.2 Google Apps (haven't tested them all)
-Keypad/Trackball leds
-data
-gps
-autobrightness
Not working:
-Wifi
-Bluetooth
-ext_partition no supported (works all, but does not recognize file system. So sdcard not working, try to do some testing)

Got the link and pictures off of RcMix Blog~
it is a test build with sense 3.5 and just android 4.0 the official releases will include android 4.0 and sense 4.0
but i think sense 4.0 is no where near. I can't find a specific date or even month in 2012 so yea the recent builds would probably include sense 3.5
Sense 4.0 will be onboard HTC Ville? Thought it'll be released first quarter
Sent from my 3310...intensely modified
we'll have it soon thanks to capy and the rcmix3d team
htc vile will be coming out with android 4.0 and sense 4.0 in 2012, but im not sure when though....hope its gonna be around the 1st quarter~
rumors said its 2nd quarter lol
I heard that also. When the Ville comes out and AT&T grabs it???hopefully, that will be my next phone
Wow, look very nice!
Welcome
I welcome Sense 4.0, however i do hope its not so much of a resource hog as the others. Quite likely it will be.
if it is then im gonna stick with CM9 (when released for the DHD)
Any source that they will make sense 4.0?
ICS with sense will awesome
In my opinion the sense ui didn't develop since sense 2.0.
HTC doesn't need to reinvent sense but compared to a clean ICS Android it appears outmoded.

did you try sense 3.5 my friend? stylish not outmoded your comment applies to sense 2.1 and 3.0
well as good as the development of ics going does anybody know when the camera will work. because if they finish with sense 3.5-4.0 without the camera it will sucks
and its sense 3.5-4.0 because its a test of 4.0 it has some new stuff over sense 3.5
I will be dearly waiting coz for me the sense camera is cm killer for me this is the main reason why I mainly use sense but do flash aosp roms like the ics builds

I have to admit I didn't try 3.5 yet.
But I'll give it a try.
I have DHD and I wish there was a rom with clean Android 4 without sense but working with HTC Windows software. I know it's a wishful thinking.
Speaking of sense 3.5, for me it is better (more useful) than clean Android 2.3.x.
Thanks and we are waiting for ICS
This thread just doesn't make sense.
