Android 2.2 for Hero? - Hero, G2 Touch General

Waiting for official android 2.1 is finally over !
I already have it, rooted version and it is really fast and nice.
I have run benchmark test and our Hero is rated very bad, with 220 points.
Nexus one has for example over 1250 points. But 2.2 version
Is there a hope for us to get 2.2 in next few months because that would be a huge step forward? (2.2 is 450% faster than 1.1 as you know)

No based on HTC's form with the Hero up until now.
It'd be nice to see it come out officially, but I can't see it happening sadly.

Is there a way , to install a Custom 2.2 android? Maybe someone will cook it up
ill get 2.1 on first /(rooted) then take it from there

Some devs are working on Froyo for Hero. It will be a port. There's no complete ROM right now, but if you can live with that:
What works:
-New Launcher2
-2.2 Google Apps (haven't tested them all)
-Keypad/Trackball leds
-data
-gps
-autobrightness
Not working:
-Wifi
-Bluetooth
-ext_partition no supported (works all, but does not recognize file system. So sdcard not working, try to do some testing)

HTC Desire ROM leaked...can it be ported?

Hey guys. I read on a couple of blog sites that the HTC Desire 2.1 Sense ROM has been leaked and it's currently being ported onto the Nexus One.
Is there any chance we can use this ROM to fill in the gaps for our 2.1 ROM, or maybe even just port this ROM directly onto our CDMA Hero's?
Here's one of the articles: http://phonedog.com/cell-phone-research/blog/htc-s-sense-ui-ported-over-to-nexus-one.aspx
This does mean there is an HTC 2.6.29 kernel. It's an HTC kernel, but not a Hero-specific kernel. This might make porting the kernel easier.... who knows.

Could it help in getting camera to work on 2.0+ custom ROMs, even if it's for another phone?
Yes, it could. This means there's a 2.6.29 kernel for HTC Sense phones. We need to put in the device drivers (i.e. microphone, camera, speakers, trackball) and see if it works. If not restore a Nandroid and try again. Any devs correct me if I'm wrong?
oh wow it says the new flash is in it too...could that be ported to?

I think that's a matter of an APK. It might have some dependencies that are in the .29 kernel, not sure.
Sorry I haven't searched yet, but could someone find me a link to a ROM from it? I'll try my hand porting some stuff.
yeh i can do some porting too we can make it a group project. but i really dont think it is possible. if anything perhaps we can take some stuff from the rom and port it to the 2.1 rom flipz has out and maybe get camera and stuff working.
I should've mentioned that's what I would've done.
I can't find the leaked rom after much googling. Might be on the Nexus One forum... brb.
Is this it?

That's the HTC_IME that fits the hi-res Nexus screen.
I think MaDaCo got it from a inside source. The watermarking has been removed but he isn't convinced it is clean and ready for open distribution yet. (Doesn't want anyone to lose there job if its not clean)
He has promised that once it is clean and ready he will for sure post it for everyone to have.
thank you for the info^^^
i guess we wait it out..

maybe this will give people a chance to figure out a way to OC??? just a thought i hope so!!! i been waiting since 2.0 was announced to get it for sense! im so excited!
Android dev Modaco has gotten his hands on a watermarked copy of the HTC Desire ROM. He has successfully ported the too big ROM (too big for the N1 by 200 MB) into his Nexus phone. This could possibly be what all you Sense UI fans have been waiting for, though you shouldn’t be too excited just yet. Modaco has stated he doesn’t plan to release this ROM until he receives an unwatermarked version of it.
Hit the jump to see the details about Modacos ROM.
- If you rebuild the boot image replacing the kernel it runs. I’m running my own custom kernel with himem and bits.
- The system.img doesn’t fit on the N1 (!), it’s nearly 200MB. I booted by moving some stuff off the system partition.
- The trackball works.
- The 4 bottom keys work.
- The proximity sensor works.
- The LED works.
- The light sensor works.
- The compass and G sensor work.
- The camera works fine and is great with face recognition and touch focus.
- The FM radio loads, but makes no sound / finds no stations it seems. Maybe we need Desire radio ROM?
- The build I have is watermarked – i’ve removed the obvious visual watermarks but no, you can’t have this release – when I get a watermark free drop, yes!
- Flash 10.1 is included and works well.
- It’s FAST!
- WiFi works
- Bluetooth works
- 800×480 video recording, camera maxes out at 3MP (fixed in later builds)
More to follow!

[Q] Ginger-Sense---Anyone Interested

Ok so here goes i'm thinking of working on a NAND ROM based on 2.3.1 (Gingerbread) Build: GRH78 FOR THE HTC HD2...but guess what...... i'm gonna try and throw HTC SENSE into the mix and see if i can get them to play nicely together....since this could take some time i just wanted to know if anyone is interested at all???? Just Post and ask if your interested......this ROM is going to based off ofMDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.3 with MDJ's Kernel: MDJ S10.3 OC (or whatever new Kernal MDJ releases between now and when i get this rom complete) and the Desire HD Sense including the Sense Camera...(THESE ARE MY GOALS FOR THIS ROM)I Will Be Posting Frequently Since I Will Need Testers to find all the little bugs that i miss....
( I WILL ONLY POST ROMS THAT I THINK ARE SAFE...BUT THERE IS THE CHANCE THAT IT STILL CAN BE BRICKED SO BY FLASHING MY ROM YOU KNOW THAT YOUR VOIDING YOUR WARRANTY AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE )
EDIT: Im Gonna Try My Hardest to have a Version posted so everyone can play with it by 01/15/2011 - 01/16/2011....
EDIT: I just sent a message to cortulla....mainly if he has any tips or tricks that might help out with this build....01/14/2011
EDIT: Ok I'm sorry for not posting for so long i haven't forgot about you guys...i'm still working on this rom..its harder than anticipated...plus having the free time to do it gets tricky...work is having mandatory overtime since the iphone is being released on verizon...(SCARED MUCH AT&T????)..SO JUST WANTED TO UPDATE AND SAY I DIDN'T DITCH THIS PROJECT.......02/03/2011
Thanks Everyone and remember we couldn't do any of this if it wasn't for Google, Cyanogen, Cotulla & (DFT), MDJ, Markinus, gauner1986, danij3l, gpc, LeTama, Rajko and others...and if i forgot to mention you im sorry just yell at me and i'll be sure to add you to the list =-)....

We are always looking for something new to put in our phones
Good luck and count me in...

Also very interested...
And I'd like to be a beta tester.
Totally interested in this. Gingerbread has come along a great length in the last copuple of days. Latest stock release dated the 14th shows working lights and usb! Would be awsome to have sense built on top!
Please work on it man
Good luck. It's almost impossible; most of sense is dependant on the HTC framework and most libraries, which are in turn interdependent with the android version they run on (2.2). You pretty much have to replace the whole build with 2.2, which, in effect, makes the build a 2.2.
It would be easier to add to 2.2 the keyboard and animations from Gingerbread, along with the launcher. It's close, but it's not really 2.3 either.
Good luck anyway.
for me it's enough to have the desire hd cam on gingerbread. will it ever be possible to provide only the hd cam tool?

+1.
It's hardly possible to get sense rosie.apk (the launcher) working on stock android... (afaik nobody has done it to date)
plus I bet its impossible to do it on a different android version.
Yet I would be interested.

Why?
Use Camera 360 or a similar app. They do the same (may look worse but who cares?)
(maybe no facial recognition - yet do you really need that?)
it seems to me that Gingerbread mostly enhanced aosp anyways, it tweaked the UI and didn't really have that many enhancements.
If you could just port the Gingerbread keyboard, icon set, Nexus S LWPs, and the screen-off animation to a Sense build then you basically have it.
(may look worse but who cares?)

yep, and that's exactly what i want: a good looking camera app. technically i'm satisfied with the gingerbread cam, but it looks awful in compare to hd cam app...

2.2 Sense ?
Sense HD would be cool but I imagine more work
I'll look forward to it !

sure man it will be revolutionary start .... good luck ...
Absolutely impossible. You need a HTC leaked ruu I tell you that. Unless you are a fremework wiz. If you are, 10-90 chance. Good luck. You may make history with it.

Gingerbread is so fast compare to Froyo, you would not believe it?
But Gingerbread has no sense (except sense theme from Mccm), has no Internet passthrough and some apps do not work with it. SPBTV 2.0 is an example for me.
This is my point of view.
I will never come back to Froyo.
I am Magldr, WP7, Mccm GB v2.1. THE BEST!
Why there is NO CLEAN SD/MAGLDR BUILDS of Gingerbread, without sense, CM mod etc...? Each avaliable 2.3 build is customized and very unoriginal Hope the situation will change...

check out AmeriCanAndroid.
it's a SD build, clean, based on CM7 Gingerbread, 2.3.3 to be specific. And is natively built as a Leo, not another device as is common amongst HD2 builds.

Well in my experience, Gingerbread is extremely fast, true, but Froyo is not bad and very stable. The best i tried for froyo was
[Dec 10][SD] NexusHD2-FRG83D V1.8 (PPP + RMNET) [Kernel: hastarin r8.5.3_oldcam], and i got very used to it, all my apps works well and fast enough. gaming (emulators, ps snes genesis n64...), all programs (social, productivity, work...) basically all the apps. My first real jump to gingerbread after many hesitation due to reading the forums was a month ago i tried with CM7 then another stock like (can't remember which one , sorry!), lots of hiccups and incompatible with many apps I loved and can't live without, don't get me wrong they were good but, from my point of view, coming from all the goodies in froyo did not beat the speed gingerbread offered. So i went back to froyo again using [DL Desire v4.32][Sense Re-Engineering with RAM][Always FASTER], which is blazing fast but lags some times (best quadrant score i've seen in all roms i've tested).
So my 2 cents is that it really depends on the user. I would absolutely go 100% gingerbread with AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB233 CM7|bkup2sdext234 [KERNEL:AmCanAndroid r3.06], because this is the best I have tested very fast stable and all that you can get from gingerbread on your HD2, however not compatible with my favorite apps. So until I can work around those, Froyo is still my best option and there are very decent one out there with good tweaking options (setCPU...). Choices choices Gingerbread vs Froyo means to me Speed vs Compatibility, hopefully we can get best of both world soon.
NB: I am talking about SD only, no MAGDLR or Ram as I have seen no real difference running SD or Ram in terms of speed or battery or at least not very noticeable, So I like to keep my WM around just in case since i tend to go crazy on all the options offered so in case of android crash and urgency i can boot back and respond fast on my weak but trusty WM.

Try [27.FEB][DFT/CWM] NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.3 [Android2.3.2][Kernel: tytung_r6]. Clean, fast ROM without any extras
I bought my hd2 on ebay and had to flash it back to 6.5 because of a password problem. I really like my phone but I did like the android. I have been reading hundreds of pages and there is just too much information to get through.
I would like to put android back on my phone but how do you figure out which version is the best? For me it needs to be simple. I am an old lady. I want to put it on and never have to mess with it again. Will some nice person help this old lady across the street.

The only way to truely tell which rom is the best one for you is if you test them out yourself. We can tell you which one works best for us but it won't really do any good.

Hi I'd advise you to have a look at darkstones SD roms particularly the sense-less build (I'll edit post with link and name later, I forget it now).
It's very fast, simple to set up. I have been using it ever since I first tried it, about 6 weeks ago. Rock solid and very clean and lovely to use it's well worth a look.

[Q] Gingerbread 2.3.4 & Sense for HD2?

http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_...gingerbread_on_16_may_in_the_uk-news-2638.php
The above article says that HTC Desire HD and Incredible S get Gingerbread on 16 May. Today is the 17th. Anybody got any news?
I'm sure these updates could help speed up the efforts to have a fully working version of Ginger-Sense for the HD2.
It's better to stick with your favorite Gingerbread Sense ROM for updates. If your favorite ROM thread is still support by the dev, he will surely upgrade his Sense build. Instead of making a thread that won't fasten his work. Give him a week or two after the official release date to update it in his thread.
I was asking because there's no Gingerbread Sense ROM that really works.
There are only 2 Sense ROMs that are Gingerbread based: imilka's Gingerbread Sense and RafDroid HD Gingerbread. Each of them has a long list of known issues and I assume they are made from bits and pieces of other Sense ROMs.
I assumed that having a Desire HD Ginger-ROM would stimulate other developers to get on board of similar projects.
I don't own a Desire HD so I don't know if the update has been released. I thought some of the people on this forum should know more on this issue.
I'm not trying to waste anyone's time, I was just asking a legitimate question.
PS: right now I'm running the same ROM that you are running.
of course there is no fully working one yet because the devs need access tothe source code and libraries used to be able to hack them to work on our hd2

Have tried some, the stablest are the roms with the Sense 2.1 lock screen or the 3.0 one without the app-links. Pictures from the camera are a little bit unsharp with less light, camcorder works in no rom. But Dungphp said, it was working nearly. If you can live without the camera, you will have no graphical glitches. Had often start problems of the sense launcher, after install or after some reboot's.
All problems should be solved if HTC will release the code of the desire gingerbread kernel (!not desire HD, this is already released but hardware is more different).
I will check today and let you know.
Yeah i tried a few Ginger sense builds and whilst they are good they are still way too buggy for everday use not to mention the camcorder issue not resolved so i wont be flashing any more until they are stable.
Forgot the only solution to record a video. "Videocam illusion" record video's in .mov format at our sense gingerbread rom's, but the quality is not so good.

The stablest one was the sbryan12144 v0.2, no installation problem's and everthing working very fast. But the glitches and the bad camera and camcorder was 1 problem too much for me.

Yes, I know what they need to make the magic happen. I'm also a developer (C++/C#/SQL Windows software), and though I have little to no experience on Android software & ROMs, I know how hard they work for everything they do.
BTW HTC should kiss XDA's feet each and every morning. I got more support on this site than I ever got from HTC.

[Q] Android 4.0 + Sence 4.0

i doubt we will see an android 4.0 rom with sense 4.0 anytime soon.
we haven't even got a fully working ice cream sandwich rom for the hero just yet and who knows if there ever will be??? however the Open GL 2.0 mod/hack has given us a little bit of hope and now its just a case of fixing all the bugs in the glassmacka ics rom which hopefully can be done
but as i say it could be a while before anyone even attempts a sense 4.0 rom on the hero and even if its possible its not 100% certain that it would be stable enough for daily use

yeah the speed is fine but there are a few bugs which still need to be fixed
also sense is really heavy on the phone and slows it down. the gingerbread sense roms we have atm speed wise aren't perfect. once you try the likes of heroine ++ and then for example go back to rose v5 you realise that in terms of speed it could maybe be improved a bit more
but then again htc did say that sense 4.0 is supposed to be 'lighter' than 3.0/3.5 so theres hope

I found this ROM for HTC desire HD and HTC Desire S with Android 4.0 and Sence 4.0 lite.
Is there any hope that ROM will be ported to HTC Hero?

I think it would be easier to wait for a latest mdpi htc phone with sense 4.0 and port it like HTC explorer
Yeah, first AOSP ICS should be a bit more stable and stuff and then we wait for MDPI, but I don't know if it will ever be good enough, though :/
Meanwhile Sense to be on our smartphones I look at this thread:
