Need To Enable Lock All Buttons - HD2 General

There used to be an option within Settings --> Personal --> Buttons (Lock tab) to Lock all buttons except Power button.
How or where would you tweak the registry to enable this option?
This is a major battery drainer for me.

Not possible on the HD2.
Use S2U2 with short turn off time, and/or auto shutdown if proximity sensor is activated.

A program to toggle backlight to stay on and prevent standby?

Searched till my eyes bled, can't find anything on this.
Say I'm using skyfire to stream video. I'd like the backlight to stay on, and the phone to not enter standby.
I'd like to toggle this by launching a program - and thus allow me to toggle it using a hardbutton with AEbutton etc. So when I'm done, I can return to normal power settings.
I can't seem to find a program that allows this... Any suggestions? Thanks!

you map a button to toggle the backlight then you press the power button to turn the display back on i use it all the time

Locking the HD

Hi all,
I have decided to uninstall S2U2 and I don't want any other locking applications. However, is there is a way I can have the standard device lock activated with a short press of the power button?
Currently I am having to hold the 'End call' button until it locks, then turn the screen off with the power button.
Thanks
I have a pin setup and use the short press of the power button to put the phone into powersave 0 whixh then outs the phone into pin lock after a short while
If you push the hang off button for more than 10seconds, it will be locked
No...

I don't know about your device...
On my HD you can press the end button and count until 3, and the device is locked
I can't remember whether it's in HD Tweak or Advanced Config, but there's an option to automatically lock the keypad on screen turning off (both timed out or power button press I assume, but not tested) so you could try that?
Edit: instead of being lazy I actually looked it up - it's in HD Tweak, option 4.1; Lock -> AutoLock
Just tried it and it works, turn backlight off by short power press and it's locked a well as screen turning off!
Good tip: works for me!
By the way: you can configure what happens when you pres the "disconnect" button too.
Guys
Thanks for this thread. I am very confused when it comes to locking the phone. Can anyone tell me...
Does the built in device lock work well? Will it keep the phone locked when a call comes in ?
If so, then why do people use S2U2 or other third party apps? Also some people say that S2U2 drains the battery. Is this true? How does it drain the battery?
The HD tweak had the disadvantage that when the screen turns in 'shaded' state the device is also locked.
Then when unlocking the device the screen stays 'shaded'.

Maybe it takes you 10 seconds to count to 3.
I've finally got there with locking my HD... I had a S710 before the HD, and I liked the fact that on that I could hold down the "end call" button, and that it would lock the phone and turn the backlight off. The screen would then turn off completely after whatever time I had entered (2 mins I think). And on unlocking the device the backlight would turn on.
On my HD I have now disabled the device password, but enabled my PIN request, so that it secures the phone if it has been turned off completely. This means that I can now hold down the "end call" button for 3 seconds or so and it locks the device (requiring a 2-tap process to unlock, like the S710). I have also used the standard windows mobile settings (power) to have the backlight automatically turnoff after 30 seconds, and have used HD Tweak (setting 4.1) to autolock the device when the backlight turnsoff. The only problem is that when AutoLock happens using HDTweak, when I unlock it the backlight fails to turn back on, even once I have started using the screen. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Just to confirm my above question regarding this specific feature of HD Tweak... I have got this working on my HD now too, but when it autolocks, and I unlock it, the backlight doesn't turn back on, and the only way to make it turn back on is to hardbutton off and on the device (not power-off, just press the button the top of the phone and press it again).
This is stopping me from using the HD Tweak autolock now, which is annoying because it does precisely what I need! Can anyone offer any advice?
I've just realised that it actually says within HD Tweak itself (on 4.1 option selector) that this is a known issue... any idea on if and when it will get fixed?
How about using Gyrator to lock the device? I have set it to lock the device and switch off the screen on inserting the stylus. Also, I have it set to unlock and switch the PDA on when the stylus in removed.
Simple. Works for me, anyway!

Hi,
Is this similar to an application my friend had on his iphone. Basically, when he needs to use the phone, he needs to put in a pin to unlock. I think the Nokia E61 has a similar feature.

Mhh, I also think it's very annoying. I first used the auto lock feature by setting
HKey_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/BackLight/AutoDeviceLockEnable = 1, but I also have the backlight-issue, which is really annoying.
I also installed S2U2, but after installing that program the battery-life was inacceptable. By now I'm using the manual method, pressing hang-up for 3 seconds. It works, but I often forget it, and it then happens easily that I press the hard-button which awakes the phone from standby and I make pocket-calls.
The auto-lock feature is also exactly the thing I need, except the fact that I get the backlight issue then. Does anybody know how to fix the backlight issue? Maybe by editing another key in the registry?
Regards,
Tobi
As I said in the hint topic, in order to lock my device I just press the power off button (this activate the stand by), simple and fast
I use S2U2 at first, but it drains power too much, so I uninstall it after 2 days.
Then I use your method - hold the end call button to lock the device.
Now, I change the right softkey to invoke a small application that will turn off the machine (just like press power button). When I take out the stylus, the machine will on again.
Thus, I don't need to press any button, and I feel it is better......personally.......

Yes, but when I activate standby and put the phone into my pocket, I often accidently hit the button again, which reactivates the phone. hit_one_button_to_unlock ist not tobi-proof

Automatic key lock

Hello, everybody
When I press and hold down the "hang up" key, my phone goes in lock mode. That's great. But is there someway to get the phone to do this automaticly? For example after 30 sec or so. I've not found any solutions here in this forum.
I know there is some 3rd part program that can fix this, but I have read that there is some issues with these programs, so I really hope that I can manage to do this without any 3rd part programs.
I will be very happy if someone could help me with this issue
(I'm terribly sorry for my bad english)
Go to Start > Settings > tab Advanced.
There, just set the options you want. Basicly, when it turns off the display at the times you set, the phone also locks.
(actually, it only locks when the 2nd option is activated, which is something like "Turn off device when not used for...". It's not really turned Off, the Display just goes off, and the phone gets locked).

Thanks for quick answer.
Actually there is no tab Advanced when I go to Settings. I have three tabs in Settings, it's in norwegian, but I can try to transelate it to english: Personal - System - Connections. I can't find any of the options you mentioned in your post.
I also like to be more precise with my problem: My display turnes of after some sec, but that not the same as the key lock-function I want. When I press and hold my "hang up"- key I have to press "Unlock" in the down right corner and then I have to confirm it in the middle of the screen afterwards to unlock it. I want my phone to automatically lock after some time not only turn of the screen.
When I have my phone in the pocket I often accidentaly turn on the screen with the power button and the phone starts to call someone. That won't happen with the key lock activated.
Hmm, well, for me, when the Screen turns Off, it Auto-locks the phone. So what you want. This is with the Default HTC Rom.
I wrote the location wrong, it is:
Start > Settings > tab System > Energy > tab Advanced.
Edit 2: Ok, now I realised why this is working for me. I used HD Tweak to change something.
With what I did, I have *exactly* what you want: Device goes off after x seconds, and then locks.
1) I used HD Tweak (from this forum)
2) There go to: 4) Lock > 4.1 AutoLock
3) Turn that on.
4) Go back to this: Start > Settings > tab System > Energy > tab Advanced.
5) There turn OFF the 1st Option (which dims it to half screen brightness, but it's buggy with the option I mentioned at 2), HD Tweak Warns for it. So by turning off this option, you work around that bug)
6) Turn on the 2nd Option (Turn off Device after X time) (which actually means turn off Screen...)
Now, what this does in my case is:
1) After 1 Minute my Screen goess Off because of the setting under Start > Settings > tab System > Energy > tab Advanced.
2) Because of the HD Tweak, it locks the keypad.
So thats what you want.
Thank you very much, Seven_PRX! Your instructions worked perfectly, and just the way I wanted

With this solution, I had problem when the screen dims : the screen locks itself too. So, I needed to unlock it, but the screen doesn't light up no more. I had to switch my phone ON then OFF to have the full brightness back. But maybe it was a bug with my install...
But now, I use VJDeviceLock with its "VJDeviceLockInstall" that lock the phone when I switch it ON. If you have the problem I had, it might be the solution

That's why I don't have this problem you mentioned
Yep, I saw that just after posting my comment
But I like to have the light to dim to warn me that the screen is going off... So I thought I could give you another way to have an "autolock" function
Btw, a quick way to unlock your phone & turn the screen on is simply by taking out your stylus (this unlocks the phone & turns the display on). It's quicker than pressing the On button and then Pressing "unlock" twice.

screen lock

I have recently had a Touch 3G and want to know if there is an auto screen lock.
I don't want to have to put a pin code in every time but just want it where it prevents me calling people whenthe phone is in my pocket.
When I first set up the phone this function was on there but as I have had to hard reset a number of times (due to software compatibility issues) it seems to have vanished.
Can anyone enlighten me?
Steve
I am not sure about auto lock.. but you can try this method.

I do not know an auto-lock of screen but you can lock it by pressing the red button for 2 seconds if you set "\Start\Adjustments\Buttons\End long press" to "lock" (all translated from german, perhaps other terms in english).
dunno if it's same thing but on my jade after a min of inactivity screen turn off and touch is disabled i control this also with power off button

This is called "energy off". In this status you only can activate the handset by the ON/OFF-button. It can be adjusted by "Start/Settings/Energyadministration/Extended" (all translated from German).
The Lock I described above means that you have to touch two special places of the display to unlock display and buttons. This does not depend of "energy off". It your handset is "energy off" and "locked" you first have to power it on by ON/OFF-Button and then unlock buttons/touch.
Both functions are overlapping a bit: If you power the handset off by ON/OFF-button of course the touch/buttons do not react. If you lock it as described above the touch/buttons are deactivated but you can see the display until it vanishes according to the energy-settings.
I use s2u2 for this and find it quite good

Lock when display off?

No matter what I set in the lock properties (even if I disable lock) my HD2 turns on the lock screen whenever I power off the display (end call button) and wake it again. Is there a way to only activate the lock after the time specified in the lock settings has passed?

Sadly, the answer is no.
It's either on, or off.
whenever you go to suspend, it would lock (or not, depending on the settings), it does not consider the time parameter.
(this is my experience.
if someone else knows how to suspend without locking,
but set a lock only after a specific time without usage,
I would also be glad to know how)

My experience is that the device wakes up locked (simple swipe unlock it if no password is set) even if the lock settings are disabled. I remember my Touch Diamond didn't have this issue...
power button -> screen off -> wait a little -> power button -> screen on. power button -> screen off -> wait 16 minutes (15 was the lock setting) -> power button -> screen on & lock screen.
this is what I want
I think what you can do is to use the S2U2 v.2.30 lock instead of the default WMo lock.
Through the right S2U2 settings (e.g. Lock when device wake up, Replace WM6.5 system manual lock etc.), the S2U2 should be able to override/disable the default lock settings. Then by setting the right sleep/suspend/wake intervals using the device setting and/or other power management apps, you should be able to achieve what you want.
Btw, there is also a registry tweak (also available in .cab) to fully disbale the default screen lock. Just search "Disable Auto Device Lock.cab" in this Forum.
