After updating to 5.0.6 all I get is EDGE, which sucks. I think I need to flash my radio image, but wanted to confirm with everyone before I did that.
According to the CM readme/release notes, the radio image I need is:
Code:
Radio Image (fastboot flash radio): 20100203_2 (EPE54B)
Download: [URL="http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/nexus/Radio_20100203_2_Signed_PASSION.img"]http://n0rp.chemlab....ned_PASSION.img[/URL]
MD5Sum: 310d85c4998163818f7dcdef730c2a12
What is the exact process to do this?. Do I copy the img to the SDCard or in the same directory as fastboot.exe?.
I am assuming I go to the fastboot.exe folder, copy the img in there and then type:
Code:
Fastboot flash radio Radio_20100203_2_Signed_PASSION.img
Can someone confirm?

Yes this is correct. Use (fastboot devices) command to make sure it see's your phone before flashing radio.

So...now that it has been sitting, I am getting 3G /H reception. Mainly 3G, but sometimes it switches to H and then immediately back to 3G.
Should I still flash the radio? Can it hurt?

The newest radio does not work well for me but others say its does for them. You can flash back to older radio if needed so just try them all and see what works best for you.
how can I tell what radio I am currently on... also where do you find the old radio files?
Reboot into bootloader, or see 'about phone' in settings.

I was under the impression that it only indicates H when there is active data transfer.
H is an extension of 3G, where the handset requests a higher speed (over the same protocol), and thus it doesn't make much sense to have it at 'H' when in idle.
You should be able to test this hypothesis by putting the phone at rest just like it is now, but initiate some active data transfer like either download, or a page that auto-refreshes. If it then stays on 'H' for longer then what you're seeing is normal. If it still switches back and forth between 3G and H you might have a problem.
I'm reciting from memory though, so I might be mistaken.
"3G" stands for UMTS(Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) the standard bearer(method of communications) for voice and data.
"H" stands for HSDPA(High-Speed Download Packet Access) the standard bearer for faster DATA communications over a UMTS (3G) cellular network.
Essentially when your device changes from "3G" to "H", your device is signaling to you, the end user, that the phone is utilizing a faster DATA transmission method over your cellular network.
Dan
P.S. "H" could also stand for HSPA(High-Speed Packet Access) which is a faster download and upload DATA transmission method.
It could be that T-Mobile's 3G is down at the moment. Yesterday I was freaking out after reflashing a rom because no matter what I couldn't get a 3G signal, only EDGE. I gave up and was going to reflash the rom and the radio in the morning.
Grab my phone the next morning and lo and behold full 3G signal.

Thats not your phone issue, it is due to WCDMA cell breathing, Tmobile is responsible for that sort of coverage.
check the settings.. after upgrading to 5.0.6 somehow my phone was set to only do 2g in settings

anyone have a solution to this... i noticed a few ppl mentioned something being offered by t mobile, but not for bell....
any help would be great, my phone sits with no signal 35% or more of the day
Have you tried to root your phone and use a different radio. I have used the new desire radio and then switched to a different one after trying a few different ones but I have the T-Mobile pilot trail 3g booster box. and wasn't getting better data speeds then I thought let me switch my radio and thats what was sorta holding the data back. But it for sure has been great with this radio I've got now. Strong signal nothing less than 4 bars and now the data is bearable when I need it in my house I can use it now LOL.

but still new to these phones... so any help would be great....

Hey,
I have a Bell Desire Z on the Telus Network. If you have root already, then flashing a radio is very simple. Download the radio that you would like to flash (make sure you have a copy of your old radio just in case) and use CWM to flash the zip. Very simple and seemingly hard to mess up.
This is the radio that I am using and it is giving pretty decent performance: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959488&page=3#30
I am running the same ROM as you and using this radio, I am able to get 3G signals minimum with it bumping up to 3G+ half the time. Full bars everywhere I go and call quality is top notch.
Good luck!
it says not to flash it via CWM and your saying you did....
so care to explain what exactly you did, so i know wtf lol
That some times is a pain to do it gets confusing. but if you have the engineering h-boot then you can flash most of the radios that work on desire z, g2, you now different services radios. i like the old fashion way by putting the radio file on the root of your sdcard. "not in any folders" and rename the file to pc10img.zip and save it like that. Then to get into bootloader mode you can use your power button and there might be a choice to reboot into bootloader mode. If not then just turn the phone off and hold down the volume down and then press the power button keep holding till you get to the white screen with androids on skateboards. Use the power button to select bootloader don't worry the phone will say load bla bla bla and it will the find the file and ask you if you want to apply the update. Click the power button and it will do its thing you can see if it everything stuck if you go to your setting and about phone. and it will say something like radio and baseband version I think but that should be it. And always backup everything before attempting anything. like download the radio for the country your from or the stock radio for your specific device let's me know how it all goes if you any problems let me know and I could try to help ok.

ya im totally lost... maybe cause its friday lol.... but ya, not clicking in lol
Hahahaha its ok just download the radio if you have it already then just rename the file to pc10img.zip if you doing it from your phone if on a pc the pc will put the .zip in there for you. Then write back for the next step

OOPS! yes, sorry.. I was thinking of my Hero for whatever reason. It's friday, you have to forgive that.. LOL..
1. Download the radio from the Mediafire link and rename it PC10IMG.zip
2. COPY this file to the ROOT of your SD card
3. Enter your bootloader by holding VOL DOWN and POWER
4. Bootloader will flash the new radio for you
Any more questions, feel free to ask. Again, sorry about before.
Good luck!
ok so just so i know, what steps do i use once i go into bootloader, as it obv gives you options there....
just want to make sure i select the correct options
anyone know how to verify what current version of the radio you have? im trying to do some backup steps before I try the ROM that was recommended here, im having some wifi/gps signals that are WEAK!
ya go into bootloader and it will tell you all the info you need to know there, including your radio version
Hello everybody,
I write down there a quick guide about ... how to flash any radio on your HD7
1. First of all you must have RSPL/HSPL on your HD7.
More info about how to do tha, you cand find HERE
2. Download any ROM posted by ANSAR or FOOTBAL or other on http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=783
3. If it's a zip file, then extract into a folder
If it's an exe file, then replace the .exe extension with .rar extension and then unrar into a folder.
4. In the unzip/unrar folder find and delete the biggest NBH file. That file it's the ROM itself and ussualy have more then 200 Mb.
5. Put the phone into bootloader mode (tricolor screen), conect to PC (you should see the change from SERIAL to USB on the white part on the tri-color screen), than run as administrator the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the unzip/unrar folder.
6. The flash take no more than 2 minutes, the phone will reboot and you will have that radio flashed.
Pay atention, this operation will wipe all the user data. If you have NoDo or Mango unlocked with Chevron, you will lose that and you'll have to downgrade to 7004 to unlock again with Chevron.
Personally, I do this on a fresh flashed 7004 rom, then I upgrade until Mango 7712.
All the best !
what does the radio do, does it improve battery life, signal ect?

i have a singapore operator HD7. bought from singtel.
a few days ag o i updated tot he july firmware update from HTC which moves the radio to 5.65
in these forums i see a 5.66 custom telstrar radio. so is this a newer version than 5.65?
should i install this custom 5.66?
A newer radio doesn't means a improvement in GSM or WiFi quality or battery life. It's also operator depending and what frequency (bands) use that specific operator.
You can try 5.66.09.21a (latest radio) from O2 rom.
Also you can use the custom wrapper and performing task 00 the phone will not hard reset after the radio flash.
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
It doesn't matter which is the newest. You're best bet is to flash radio A. Test it for a few days. Flash radio B, test it for a few days & so on to see which radio works best for you.

First, for flashing with custom wrapper, try to flash directly into booloader mode (tricolor screen).
Second, 5.66 will work with your network, because it's a gsm, not a cdma network.
Third, if you can't get signal, you can flash, with the same method, the previously used radio.

ve tried . Still does not work.
I used the dft rspl only. Do we also need to use hspl?
I don't want use hspl can?
So what bands does 5.66 operate in??

Bands are a hardware limitation, radio will not change this. What was meant is that certain bands, regions, carriers may work better on a specific radio.
The wrapper does not seem to work.
How do I get it to work?
Anyway there is another by ansar which seem to update to 5.66 but it hard resets the phone.

Must work only with rspl, but you must not reboot yoour phone.
After you instal rspl, the phone reboot into bootloader and then you flash the radio.
What is the error message ? Can you make a print screen ?

It's the same ROMUpdateUtility, but perform only task 28, not also task 00.
This is what make the phone hard-reseting after flash..

Om the custom wrapper is working, but it cant show the original rom image rom version the dialog screen, it only show the radio i want t flash , eg 5.66. Why?
So after flashing with rspl, if i reboot the phone what happens?
Wll it revert back to my original radio?

Why is that a problem (it shows only what will be flashed) ?
And yes, after rebooting, you will lose the RSPL.
And I thinks it's better to read a little bit before asking ....
Ok I successfully flashed the radio. Its 5.66 now.
Now you can test and see if it's better than 5.65.
If not, flash another one.

i just flash new CM V7.1 RC..
but my GPS not working...
just searching that solution, i found i have to flash new radio image..
Radio_13.53.5524h-3.35.19.25 <-- mine
Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10 <-- want flash to this new radio...
i try flash using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5 xx but nothing change...
if anyone help me on this.. or if have step by step how to flash new radio...
thank very much...
If you have already flashed the radio, then try to load your app which uses GPS, then the GPS icon will show. (It doesn't show when idle)
If that still doesn't work, reflash the radio v19.25, not 20.10

oooohh.. i will try..
btw which want is new radio image...
v19.25 or v20.10?
20.10 is newer, but there have been a few cases where GPS has worked on 19.25, but it didn't on 20.10.
i already reflash v19.25 but still not works...
try running papago gps around 15 minute out side my house but nothing happen...
gps icon on papago still seaching the satelite..
so any solution?
-Flash the latest radio image using CWM 2.5x
-Run Google Maps outside any building in an open area. ( go downtown or somewhere -near because usually, that is the place that has the best gps signal )
-Wait for the gps to lock on your position.
-Done
If it still does not work, go ahead and flash a Sense RoM, and repeat the procedure above.
After that you can go ahead and reflash a new RoM ( wipe data/factory reset before )
# Please note that when you first use Google Maps you also need Data Connection or Wifi to get the maps downloaded. The gps alone cannot do that so it will get stuck at ,,connection failed..."

Flashing CWM recovery will not change anything byond bootloader, flashing radio is another part - just search for radio for WF as zip suitable for your phone and country. Then in recovery (CWM recovery) select this zip as update file - but remember radios are depending of source of radio signal freq - as so on - EU differs from from Brasil.
I have'nt checked how works radio in my PL phone from BR - won't even try it
i tried to make a thread in the Q&A section but it has not been appearing.. twice!
my question -
currently on 5.08 radio and want to experiement/try out 5.12 radio
if i do not like it and want to go back to 5.08 can i simply just fastboot flash the 5.08 radio back?
or is there additional steps i must take to downgrade the radio?
if i am unable to downgrade back to 5.08 i dont think i want to flash 5.12 tbh....
thanks in advance!
You can flash whichever radio you want. There is no "upgrade" or "downgrade", the system doesn't check versions.
Funny you mention that. I went from 5.12 back to 5.08 a few days ago. I had a small issue with wifi not reconnecting, and had to disable/enable wifi to reconnect each time.
This is on MIUI GB. Radio 5.08 doesn't experience this issue for me.
Interesting to hear if you experience this too on 5.12

WiFi has nothing to do with radio, so whatever it was that you did in addition to flashing radio - like rebooting - more likely cured your phone.
Flashing an unsigned radio will brick your phone RIGHT?
I had been flashing ROMs, Recoveries, HBOOTs but haven't tried Radios
I want to experiment just don't want to have a BRICK

That's why it's best to use fastboot to flash the radio.
baseballfanz is correct
do it thru fastboot, if you are not familiar with fastboot, become familiar before you do it
nandroid
get the radio images from the wiki
i never saw any diff btw .08 and .12
put the radio.img in your adb/fastboot folder on pc, usually tools or platform-tools
fastboot flash radio radio.img where radio.img is exact name of the image file
i check this by right clicking the on the radio.img i put in the tools folder and clicking on properties. it will show you the exact name and i copy/paste it into command window

No differences IMO. I was on 5.12 for a long time but went with 5.08 as that's the "official" radio version that came out with GB. Performance wise no different.
