CoPilot 8 users I need help....... - HD2 General

I was wondering how you can allow copilot 8 running while charging. For some reason it automatically closes when I plug it into my radio usb.

For me CoPilot 8 runs just fine while I'm in my car and charging via a car charger.
Maybe I'm not clear on what a "radio usb" is. Can you tell us what that is? I know what a USB radio is, but perhaps that is not what you're talking about.

Basically my radio has a usb coming from the back of it. I normally use my phone to play music. I guess I cant do both, play music and have co-pilot operating.

I use the Moto T505 and I play music while using CoPilot 8 almost daily.
Must be something with how your radio's USB works.
Using my PC right now, while plugged into the PC USB with Active Sync running, I've just started playing music via the Music tab, opened CoPilot 8 with the music still playing. Then I disconnected the cable while CoPilot and the music were still going, reconnected the cable, selected "Active Sync" and both CoPilot and the music are still going without a skip.
I am using EnergyROM now, so I can't say how that test would go with the stock ROM, but I never had a problem with the stock ROM when charging in the car (via a MicroUSB car charger) and playing music over the Moto T505 and CoPilot worked with it just fine.

CoPilot Live 8 install question
So I am about to purchase this app. Where is everyone installing Copilot? Does it have to be installed on the device Or can you install it on the Micro SD card?
I have heard that some apps when installed to the card causes issues or slowness. Is anyone experiencing this as well?
Thanks for your input.

why don't you just reinstall everything
that could help or maybe you didn't do a task 29 after an update that could cause the prob too

The app has to be installed to the device. The maps and all other supporting data can be stored on the MicroSD card. That's how I have mine setup and the manual recommends installing the app to the device.

I am about to purchase this app and the web site says the download is 1G. Will it even fit on the HD2 or does it somehow compact itself once installed to the device?

It fits on the HD2 (put maps & voices on the sim card as that is where the big space size requirement is based on). It is a great app for the HD2 (and not overly costly like TomTom or Garmin).

Thanks, so I shouldnt have any issues then even with the other apps that I have installed.
So I have to ask, how is everyone getting to the Navi Panel without the proper in car kit? Do you have to go into the folders and create a shortcut?

Just install it, like any program it makes a shortcut for the app.

Ok I am downloading Copilot Live8, do I also need to download the Text to Speah app? When I tried to do this with the Key that was provided it said it was invalid. Or am I required to wait for a period of time before downloading it?
Thanks,

Nevermind, it looks like it is part of the Download new version.

MicroDrive issues

I'd like to start this thread as a separate and dedicate one for the multiple MicroDrive issues ...
We have a few HTC Advantage (T-Mobile Ameo) devices here.
Basically there seem to be 3 issues with the device all of which are related to the MicroDrive:
1) MD = NOT ROBUST
despite marketing slogans the MicroDrives still obviously are not at all robust:
- a security mechanism shall stop them when exposed to shock
- the device comes with integrated GPS and therefore will be used as navigation system: permanent use (espacially accessing the MicroDrive) in the car
- we see the MicroDrive stop and cease to function from time to time up to even resulting in complete system freeze
=> interim summary: shock proof mechanism and permanent use do not work both at the same time, short term stops and complete malfunction to be expected (very likely for the majority of devices)
2) MD = SLOW
several years of using Pocket PCs with all kinds of storage have shown us, that the MicroDrive belonged and still belongs to the slowest on the market;
=> currently we see ...
- much slower start of system (i.e. after soft reset) the more applications are installed on the MicroDrive
- much slower start of several navigation systems (TomTom, iGo, Navigon) which of course are installed (at least their maps) on the MD
- explorer / start menu / several applications accessing files stored on or links to applications installed on the MicroDrive show dramatically bad performance
3) MD -> BATTERY DRAIN
the only issue we read of but cannot yet 100% confirm;
we avoided to install applications with permanant access to MicroDrive, i.e. no today plugins etc have been installed on MD;
but: we can confirm that it takes a long time to load an empty battery or almost does not reload when using USB cable (via laptop / PC) instead of charging via AC adaptor
We read about similar requests and would definitely support them (if possible):
For all 3 issues as described above we would strongly opt for and recommend replacement by CF drives (i.e. Transcend CF 8 GB 120x).
!!! Does anybody have access to the service manuals ?
We'd actally like to do that replacement asap if there is any chance to.
Any comments / other experience ?
Thanks for Your feedback

From what i heard, that's why Advantage is delay , because the Rom they wrote doesn't deal with Micro Drive in the right and correct way. BUT Dopod u1000 one is fine, i personally own the DOPOD U1000, and the reading and writting speed of MD is at least 3 times faster than my High speed mini sd. Battery Drain is nothing, i guess it's all to do the the ROM, again, Dopod has prove to be a better Athena for now until someone make a better Rom.
I would love to replace the Micro Drive with CF Flash card, anyone has any idea how to do that?
A few points:
1. HTC recommends using the Mini-SD slot for fast operation of applications, navigation maps, etc. Meaning: you better install this stuff to a fast Mini-SD or SDHC card.
2. the 8 GB HDD is mainly for data storage/media storage
3. since the Ameo is using a 2200 mAh rech. battery, it takes much longer until it is charged by the USB port of a PC/laptop. Recharging the Ameo with the AC ad. is highly recommended.
I agree with your concerns but I think that HTC had to keep the price tag of the Athena at a certain level and the only way to do that was using a MD instead of NAND memory. Maybe they should have talked to Apple first.
The HTC X7500/Ameo/U1000 is a very nice Pocket PC Smartphone but I think people expect too much from it. If you want something really nice but very expensive, wait for the Vaio UX with built-in UMTS/HSDPA modem rumoured for this autumn. If you don't want to wait, the Samsung Q1b is just around the corner, it should be released soon. Built-in HSDPA included, a SSD version should be released shortly after. At slightly below 900 Euro (Ameo), this unit can't do wonders.

I've now got me an Ameo and can say this much...the above scenarios are slowly becoming a reality for me. MD is slow as hell and I can't even active sync large files across to it from PC. I can transfer no probs to SD card via card reader on PC then to MD via SD card once re-inserted.
This is not good. HTC should have known better and at least implemented a bit of software to allow for USB mass storage capability. I think I'd better do some more reading of the manual and research more about USB mass storage software.
I'm sure this was available some time ago for the Universal...just can't remember when or where.

I have the software here if you want, just give me your e-mail, i can send it to you
In the other hand, the result of DOPOD U1000 is very different, the Micro Drive in my device runs really well, (even faster than my mini-SD by doing the benchmark)
Transfer large file is no problem and is fast. Don't see any problem on it.
I guess after all, DOPOD still on top on writing Roms, hopefully the Advantage will sort their machine out when it comes out (since they are getting the help from DOPOD).
I also looking for a software can emulator USB mass storage , can u send me a copy? Thanks !

Simultaneous access to SD Card on HD and PC

Can't find this on the forum anywhere:
Is there any way to use the HD as a disk drive and use TOMTOM at the same time?
I have a USB car stereo that I connect to my HD to play my mp3's and charge it, but would also like to use TomTom on it at the same time.
Thanks.
No, once the HD is setup as a flash disk then the HD itself can not see the SD card.

I am not sure if my USB car stereo will recongnise the SD Card if I use the Active Sync setting, I am leaving work now, so will try when I get home and let you know.
If it does I will be a very happy chappy.
lol! - came across this same issue yesterday mate!.
I have a Pioneer FH-P80BT, which I have connected via bluetooth to my HD. I only use the USB port for charging the HD, but quickly realised problems were due to occur when Tom Tom couldn't find my maps whilst it was plugged in.
I'm hoping I can be lucky though and setup the HD to Activesync mode which should allow the HD to charge - The stereo also has bluetooth audio streaming so I should be able to use that whilst I am using Tom Tom and charging at the same time......will report back tommorow, thanks for reminding me!

quick question about the TP2 and car stereos.

most car stereos today have a USB in for connecting an IPod, Zune, whatever.
do these work with the TP2?

Probably yes (haven't tried it myself), but when you connect your TP2 to an USB-host (which the car stereo is), the TP2 asks you which mode you want (Active Sync, Disk Drive or Internet Sharing). If you select Disk Drive, the microSD card shows up as a diskdrive in windows (or your car stereo...)
Yup, what andrehj says.
All devices that show up as Mass Storage will definately work on car stereo's. Worked on mine. But I never use it. Because mine has Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP support (stereo streaming). It works flawlessly.
No wires for me. Except the charger itself. xD
Simultaneous program access?
I can confirm that the TP2 works in drive mode as an input for a car stereo. However it appears the phone restricts access to the storage card in this mode and programs cannot access it, which means things like TomTom cannot access maps.
Does anyone know a way around this? Is it a WinMo restriction or something else?
Please specify "drive mode"?
I've used mine playing music through A2DP in combination with Tomtom Navigator 7 + Benelux maps.
The only downside I experienced was that the Tomtom voice was much louder than the music I played. Thus when adjusting the music volume to a much louder level, that Tomtom woman scares the heck outta me. Like when needed to take a turn, it's more like "GO LEFT!!!!!! W$E%T#@$%[email protected](#%|(!# ". In between the music.
No problem with tomtom reading the maps though.
'Drive mode' via USB
Thanks Crix84. By 'drive mode' I meant the Disk Drive mode that you can select when connecting via USB. I expect accessing via the BT profile is quite different which is why things work for your setup.
That TT girl would be scary at high volume!
Ohhh okay now I understand. You mean't the mass storage function I was talking about in a previous post of mine.
Well for what I've found and experienced. That mode makes the phone really function like a USB stick aka Mass Storage Device. At that moment only the MicroSD card is blocked from access within the phone. For what I know, the driver used for Mass Storage (any windows system or other) is a standardized universal driver. Wich means it must be as illogic to access the card both from within the phone and the computer/car-radio through USB at the same time. Like using 1 usb stick on 2 pc's by using a usb splitter. Device in use means in use.
Active Sync in the other hand uses a different kind of USB connection. It accesses the phone itself, through that, the card. Mass Storage is a direct function to the microsd card. Kind of a bypass. For compatibility issues. When you just want to put something on your card without the hassle of installing drivers (on old pc's) etc. Wich would really mean that the maps on the card for Tomtom are inaccessible. That would really be indeed a problem. The only solution for that is either use the phone as I do. Bluetooth A2DP not available? Then the car-audio system should change the access mode to the phone. Maybe an active sync like solution/connection. Problem is most manufacturers do that. Thinking of only using a USB stick on the radio. Mine does that too. Only mass storage devices are accepted through my radio's usb.

TomTom now suppored on HTC HD 2

Well, it's on here anyway...
http://www.tomtom.com/products/section.php?ID=898&Section=709&Lid=1&Category=2
However, it's telling me I have the latest version of Home (2.7.3.1894) and the software continues to say "No device connected" despite Window Mobile Device Center happily showing the HD2 connected to my pc.
I've pinged TomTom a support request asking for their advice...
Tomtom has been working for me since I got my HD2 4 months ago. I am using Navigator 7.915
Also running 7916 - no problem.
I know some of you have successfully hacked it on to your phones, for those of us that hadn't, I thought I'd post that they're now listing it on their site.
that is not the point.
the point is, that tomtom doesn´t support the hd2 till now, because:
1. the working versions doesn´t have the builded in bt-files, which are contained in any actual tomtom 7 version.
2. it isn´t possible to use mapsharing, or get any other update with tomtom home at the moment. this software doesn´t connect with the hd2, the every given feature is out of the "hd2-world".
3. i´ve a traffic and speed camera contract with tomtom, but i can´t adapt this one to the hd2, cause it isn´t supported.
4. the versions out there doesn´t support wvga, but vga only. so a real wvga version would be really great.
so, in my opinion, it would be really great, to get tomtom 7 official working on the hd2, without using an "adopted" version.
Hi all,
have you tried connecting the the TT Micro-SD card in a SD adapter and connect it directly to your PC (not connected via HD2). Tomtom home will recognize the application and the maps and perform updates if needed.
that doesn´t work with here.
i also tried to copy the "ttnavigator.bif" from my other pda, for which i´ve the contract with same tomtom-services, to the root of the sd-card, but there is no possibility.
does that works for you?
you're meant to connect your hd2 to the computer using disk mode and not active sync mode. Doing this will allow tomtom home to see the drive and update maps from there.
i´ve tried both - but without any success.
Thanks for the pointer. Quite surprised really, but pleasantly.
The standard version of Tomtom 7 I had bought still wont install on the HD2 (obviously). Any ideas how one is supposed to get an installable version now it's become compatible?

Sat Nav In Car

Just moving away from an iPhone and getting used to the way the DHD works. Much better!
There are a few issues I am having though.
I have a JVC head unit in my car, which I plug the phone into (USB). What I want to be able to do is have it charge, use the sat nav and also play my music.
When I plug it in and choose 'charge only' it cant find the music. So, I choose 'disk drive". The music then works, but the sat nav doesnt. It says that the SD card is not installed.
Any ideas?
When you connect the DHD as a USB "Disk Drive", the phone actually unmounts (ejects) the SD from your device, so that the external device can read it as a flash drive. Technically, when you are on DiskDrive mode, your phone has no SD.
EDIT: Forgot to say that most (if not all) SatNav programs keep their files on the external SD
If you try installing the SatNav software on the DHD internal memory (have never tried it, it really depends if the software allows you to do that), and not the SD, it might work.
The last choice you got is the USB "HTC Sync" mode, in which case, although the DHD does not eject the SD, your JVC stands absolutely no chance in reading the specific format output from the USB (requires PC with proper HTC software).
Thanks.
Surely thats a severe limitation? I want to be able to plug my DHD into the car stereo so I can listen to music, get sat nav and charge. Surely thats not too much of an ask, and something all my previous phones have been able to do.
I have USB input on my car stereo too. I've never been able to mount the microSD card within the phone OS (WinMob or Android) and also play music through the stereo; Your phone either treats the card as USB mass storage for your stereo, or for your phone, not both.
I only ever use Google Navigation on my Desire HD, and I have a 16GB USB stick for music. It only leaves my car if I want to change the tracks on it. Maybe one of those solutions will be best for you.
Navitel working great?

The only option of listening to music from the SD card and using navigation software that holds the maps, voices, etc. on the SD card (I think most if not all of them are made that way) is to use the AUX input of your car stereo and play the music with the phone's music player (the quality of the AUX input is not so good on my Sony). That way you'll have your navigation voices also through the stereo, but there was a thread somewhere that in order to play the voices the software pauses the music. Haven't tried it though, so I can't comment if it's true for all the navi softwares.
You can try Dual Mount SD from the Market, but it requires root in order to work. When you install it you can use your sd card in the phone and through usb at the same time. There is no solution without root.

Thanks for that. Tried it and it kind of works.
Its a bit odd though as the DHD doesnt know what songs are being played - if that makes sense. Its just passing through via USB. If you set up its own music player to do something, it plays that via bluetooth. Kind of cool in a way, but just means you can only control whats being played via the car stereo.
Thanks again, much better than it was.
