TomTom now suppored on HTC HD 2 - HD2 General

Well, it's on here anyway...
http://www.tomtom.com/products/section.php?ID=898&Section=709&Lid=1&Category=2
However, it's telling me I have the latest version of Home (2.7.3.1894) and the software continues to say "No device connected" despite Window Mobile Device Center happily showing the HD2 connected to my pc.
I've pinged TomTom a support request asking for their advice...

Tomtom has been working for me since I got my HD2 4 months ago. I am using Navigator 7.915

Also running 7916 - no problem.

I know some of you have successfully hacked it on to your phones, for those of us that hadn't, I thought I'd post that they're now listing it on their site.

that is not the point.
the point is, that tomtom doesn´t support the hd2 till now, because:
1. the working versions doesn´t have the builded in bt-files, which are contained in any actual tomtom 7 version.
2. it isn´t possible to use mapsharing, or get any other update with tomtom home at the moment. this software doesn´t connect with the hd2, the every given feature is out of the "hd2-world".
3. i´ve a traffic and speed camera contract with tomtom, but i can´t adapt this one to the hd2, cause it isn´t supported.
4. the versions out there doesn´t support wvga, but vga only. so a real wvga version would be really great.
so, in my opinion, it would be really great, to get tomtom 7 official working on the hd2, without using an "adopted" version.

Hi all,
have you tried connecting the the TT Micro-SD card in a SD adapter and connect it directly to your PC (not connected via HD2). Tomtom home will recognize the application and the maps and perform updates if needed.

that doesn´t work with here.
i also tried to copy the "ttnavigator.bif" from my other pda, for which i´ve the contract with same tomtom-services, to the root of the sd-card, but there is no possibility.
does that works for you?

you're meant to connect your hd2 to the computer using disk mode and not active sync mode. Doing this will allow tomtom home to see the drive and update maps from there.

i´ve tried both - but without any success.

Thanks for the pointer. Quite surprised really, but pleasantly.
The standard version of Tomtom 7 I had bought still wont install on the HD2 (obviously). Any ideas how one is supposed to get an installable version now it's become compatible?

spv m600 activesync

hi
i just got my spv m600 and i cant seem to get it recognised, im running xp and grabbed and installed the latest activesync, it just doesnt seem to want to play ball, i really want to install pocket msn.. Im using the mini usb cable
plz help
thanks
uh oh here we go again
seems like you're bugged with the dreaded "can't sync over cable" syndrome.
there are various posts and forums dedicated to just this problem.
personally, nothing worked for me, so I just sync over bluetooth and transfer large files over wifi or directly on the sd card using a card reader.
good luck!
Hi
It seems to be solved now i was using 3.7, so i uninstalled and used the 4.2 beta from microsoft, all seems ok now apart from it wont sync with outlook, buts thtas cool, i only really wanted to be able to run programs and trandfer data..
Maybe give the 4.2 beta a go yourself...
Peace
3.7 does not support WM5, so there is no way you can get it to work. 4.1 works, and I guess 4.2 beta.
attached a utility HTC Usbswitch
this alows you to switch between RDNIS and Serial connection
if you are unable to sync using the NEW RDNIS connection then simply run the utility and switch to SERIAL and it will then connect and sync
i have to use it, as firewalls and encryption setting can prevent the new method working

Pb with my USB cable

Hello!
I'm quite a newbie in the whole HTC world, so please answer with simple words!
Here is my problem : my HTC just wouldn't "see" my PC (neither under XP nor under Vista) when I plug the USB cable. Of course, I have already tried to reinstall ActiveSync (XP) or Sync Stuffcenter (Vista), but it doesn't work.
The battery is still charging so I assume that the cable is not broken...
Do you know if the USB cable HAS to be the HTC one? (I might currently be trying to use a Canon or Nikon one, initially designed for a digital camera...)
Any other idea?
Thanks,
Ced
on your htc try going to
1º- settings:
2º- system:
3º- then go were it say´s usb to pc
4º- there you will find a box ,if it has a check on it then uncheck it ,but if it
dont have a check on it then check it
5º- have fun with your device
In alternative....
...Make sure that activesync is talking to the USB port: On the windows PC, open activesync and look in the menu File-->Connection settings. Make sure that "Allow USB Connections" is ticked.
By the way, i don't understand why but once in a while this checkbox becomes unticked without reason....do you have the same?
Thanks for your answers, but it still isn't working...
@pzucchel : on Vista, ActiveSync does not exist I think... and on Sync Center, there is no such thing as "allow USB connections..."
@LAMM44 : the case was unchecked, so I checked it, and here, miracle, my computer shows me a window telling me that it is uninstalling something... ... ...and then... ...nothing! The PDA doesn't have a letter, this bl..dy SyncCenter does not see anything, ...
Thanks anyway, if you have any other suggestion?
Any service which might not be running and should be activated on Vista? (I don't think so, because it is not working on XP either)
Any thoughts about this USB cable thing?( Do you know if the USB cable HAS to be the HTC one? (I might currently be trying to use a Canon or Nikon one, initially designed for a digital camera...))
Ced
EDIT : the "uninstalling" thing was about Windows Mobile Device Center. When I run this program, I can see the "allow USB connections" case, which is checked... but with the case on the PDA checked or not (the one with the advanced network stuff), WM Device Center still says that the mobile device is not connected...
I can confirm you can use Any USB cable (i am presently using one from Garmin) - even through USB routers. You are right - my comment on the USB port was related to win XP. BTW, are you sure you are using an up-to-date activesync?
I have downloaded the last one on XP yesterday... But not on my computer (mine works with vista).
I can try to update Vista WM device Center... but this should have worked on XP!
Thanks for the answer about the USB cable... It seems to be a pb on my HTC then. I went through all the menus but don't see anything relevant...
...did you consider a hard reset? of course, not having activesync you cannot back up- but maybe you can use the sd card.
are you using active sync 4.5? do you have an original rom?
Yes, I wanted to do a hard reset... but not without backing up my contact and SMS!
Would you know where these are stored in the memory? (if I could just copy/paste a folder on the SD card, then I could reinstall windows mobile completely...)
I tried ActiveSync 4.5 on XP yesterday yes. I have never reinstalled WM, so I am a bit lost... What is an original ROM? If it is a DVD of WM or something, I have to search, I am not even sure I have it... I think I have the initial HTC DVD, but is there WM on it? Certainely...
BTW, would you advise me to install WM6 instead of WM5? Is it faster? And a last question : what does "ROM Tnyynt 015 (CE OS 5.2.20273 Build 20273.1.3.3) " mean? (I must admit that I don't understand I mere word of the Trinity wiki... what is a kitchen ROM for instance???)
OK, a few things to be explained!
you probably bought your trinity and it comes with an ORIGINAL rom inside it, that should be more or less working. For example, initial roms didn't even allow to use the internal GPS, that was installed but not usable because of software issues.
I don't know where you live or where you bought it, but typically your telephone company or the seller (dopod, HTC, Qtek) provide regional upgrades and improvements of the operating system (windows mobile) and of the radio rom (the one controlling WiFi, GSM, GPS, Bluetooth, etc.). Sometimes it is the case, sometimes they forget about you since you bought it and they got their money - bye bye!!!!
Then....comes XDA-Developers!
here, we generate our own operating systems and improve further the possibilities of the various systems. For example, many of us are using Windows mobile 6.0 and 6.1 on the trinity, we can switch a french telephone into an english telephone, unlock the telephone to be used in any country, etc.etc.
A telephone is much more powerful than a PC 10 years ago: in terms of processor, graphics, memory, I/O. Not a surprise that, as a PC, software can be improved. Believe me (it is at least three years i am following this): the speed, functionality and performances of the telephone can greatly improve!!! I am using the rom cooked by TNYYNT, version 15, which is based on windows mobile 6.1 and a very recent release (build) of it.
Main negative consequence of installing a cooked rom: don't expect that warranty will be valid!
Said this, a warning: you do it at your own risk. Therefore my suggestion is READ before you do things. Now your activesync problem is minor, but making the wrong upgrade could block your telephone. Nothing is "forever", but a badly stuck telephone requires good skill to recovery it.
So, step by step: is anything else working in your system? if so, i would concentrate in this active-sync problem only, for the time being.
If you would be intrigued in learning more and play with your P3600 (or P3600i, there are actually two models!) then be preparred in reading a lot on this forum! in this case, start from here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Trinity
I hope i was able to make things a bit clearer for you, don't hesitate in asking more.
i see it right now: to backup your contacts and SMS, without activesync, you can do it with this program called pimbackup that is described in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
you could download it directly from the telephone (or send it by email), save the installation program onto the minisd and save the contacts/sms onto the minisd card (Storage card). Then, after the hard reboot, you will have to reinstall the pimbackup and restore the contacts/sms again. is it OK?
Thanks a lot for these explanations! I will try pimbackup tonight.
Actually, I bought my HTC on ebay, and the previous owner had upgraded it to have the radio working, and had installed a lot of softwares and tweaks... But now I would like to choose my own! I understand the principle of the ROM upgrade of course, but I am just a bit lost with all the different ROMs! What is a kitchen ROM, what does "dump the ROM" mean? See, I would need a back-to-basics tutorial!
BTW, is it legal? (I mean, the packed ROMs come with Windows isn't it?) just to know!
Thanks again!
Hi, the fact that there are a lot of tweaks and radio upgrades on your HTC doesn't play much in your favour!
When you are ready, and only when you are ready, go and install Radio Rom 1.56 and the rom TNYYNT 017 (I am ASSUMING you have a P3600 and not a P3600i...right?)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413612
somebody could disagree...but i think it is the best choice!
Concerning the legal aspects, i am not a lawyer but microsoft is well aware of the XDA-Developers site, including HTC and the involved companies. Many of us do believe they use this site for beta-testing....but again, search yourself on the site to know microsoft's opinion...
My argument: I paid for the WM license, I bought the hardware and i would like to have a nicely working system - if they are ready to support their customers they should let us know ;;;;-)
By the way - about your question on the "legality" that made me thinking about it . Read this thread and enjoy it!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=290190
Whaou, great post about the legality, thanks!
I think I have a 3600 and not a 3600i (I am a bit ashamed, but I don't know how to know this.......), but the fact that the radio wasn't activated when the previous owner bought it seems to mean it was the 3600, no?
Thanks a lot for PIMBackup, it worked perfectely, and really fast!
Now that my backup is done, I'm a bit stuck, because I still haven't solved the USB problem, and I need the connection to download the ROM...
ready for a hard-reset? settings-->Clear Storage (dont worry - it will not clear the minisd...)
just before the hard-reset : do you think my usb connection has any chance of working after that?
EDIT : hard reset done, USB working just fine!!! Thanks a lot!
Now I'm ready to spend hours trying to install install Radio Rom 1.56 and the rom TNYYNT 017.
(do I need to install TNYYNT first?)
EDIT2 : OK, I have installed TNYYNT 017, it's really simple actually, and must faster than my bugged WM5! I haven't tried the radio yet.
Thanks again!
EDIT3 : BTW, would you advise me to install Tomtom 6 or 7? Thanks again!
Answer one: of course i think you have some chance...especially now that i know it works!
Answer two: go for the radio rom...and donate to TNYYNT since he did really a great job. If you try other roms, you will notice the difference (i tried all of them, essentially). The radio rom is also very great in my opinion, and the update is easy.
Answer three: TomTom 7.4 is indeed the best (even better than IGo).
I am happy that it worked out and i was helpful.
Tomtom 7.4?
On tomtom's website, I can only see the 6th version of Tomtom Navigator (http://www.tomtom.com/products/category.php?ID=2&Language=1)
Where could I find the 7th?
Hi again!
I'm quite happy with my installation now, I tweaked a bit starting from TNYYNT 017, then Radio Rom 1.56.
In particular, I followed the instruction of http://www.milow.net/public/projects/windows-mobile-skin.html to have a nice iPhone-like skin.
Now, I would like to make a backup of these few hours!
(I'd like to make make my own ROM, is it "dump the ROM"? if yes, would you have something clearer than http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HowtoDumpRom ?)
I still have one problem, my internet WLAN connection doesn't seem to work (right after the installation of TNYYNT and radio 1.56). My Wifi is seen, the password entered and it says "connected", but when I launch any webpage with internet explorer, it stays at the "locating" stage (first, "Connecting" is written, then "Locating", then... nothing!). Any idea please?
Thanks again for all your help!!!
EDIT : hhhoooo noooo, now I've got this blinking start menu problem!!!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295816
GGGRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! Well, any suggestion might help a lot!!!

USB Sync via Windows Mobile Device Center

Hi,
I have recently obtained a T-Mobile MDA, I currently own a Diamond and I thought this would be a good introduction into WINMO for my younger brother. I initally wanted to flash the ROM with a Manilla 2d ROM however I can't even connect to my Device Center! (using the USB cord - which still charges the phone BTW)
I run Vista Ultimate 64 bit (which i thought could be the problem) but when I connect any other WM phone it works fine, it installs the software & shows the icon of the phone. With this "Nike" it does nothing, I can see MyMobile trying to connect over & over again but once again nothing! I've even done a Hard-Reset to try and rule out possibilities...
Does anyone have a solution/suggestion as to the cause of this problem? If I reconnect the Diamond straight afterwards it works perfectly!

HD Mini and Apple computer

Hello,
After 2 days of using HD Mini I must say I am very pleased... the only major complaint is that the phone hangs up after connecting to my macbook and to my iMac. I know that this is a windows phone and I don't expect it to synchronize and so on, but my previous phone ( HTC Diamond) connected to mac computer acts normally- it is seen as external disk drive, I can copy files to memory and charge it from the laptop battery if needed. HD Mini freezes and I cannot even switch it off- I need to disconnect battery! Do you think it is something wrong with my phone or all of them act like this? Has anyone try to connect HD Mini to Apple computer? Thank you very much for any info!
Hi,
You can sync the HD mini with Apple iCal, Address Book and some iTunes music (and more) thanks to utilities like Mark/Space Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. It works through USB or Bluetooth links (it uses the MS ActiveSync protocol).
The USB mass storage mode of the HD mini seems to have problem with Apple computers. I'm experiencing the same troubles as you are with both a MacBook and an iMac. Some driver update is probably required.
Regards
Thank you!
problem solved at least partially...
using missing sync for now and hope HTC to release update to storage mode
Regards and many thanks

Mine does exactly this. Freezes and I too have to remove the battery. If I set the HD Mini to 'ActiveSync' mode, I can charge the battery from the Apple (Mac Mini in my case), but cannot access the storage card.
I use the free version of SyncMate to sync the HD Mini with my Mac, I couldn't get this to work via BlueTooth (which worked with my TG01), naturally can't get it to work via USB either, but eventually had success using WiFi to sync.
please everyone having this problem....report to HTC let's hope they fix the mass storage mode

Did this yesterday!
I should say, I don't think setting the connection type to 'ActiveSync' prevented a crash after all. I think it just delayed it!
I'm using SyncMate - works perfectly.
I'm not able to see SD card like USB storage, but via SyncMate I can connect to StorageCard and copy files.
It's not good way for big files (700 MB about 30 min), but for small is usable.

I'm guessing you have the full (paid!) version of SyncMate? I don't think you can sync to the SD card with the free version?
I can't get SyncMate to connect to the HD Mini using bluetooth, only WiFi. Is this 'normal' or am I just daft?
@ everyone -
If you have any problems while using SyncMate, please, contact our Support team at [email protected], thanks
If anyone else did report this to HTC, did you get any sense from them?
All I get back is bland statements about not supporting sync with the Mac, but to try 'MissingSync'. Surely connecting the HD Mini to MissingSync with USB will give the same lockup, won't it?
In case you are interested, here is the response from HTC so far:
Hello.
I have just received my (wonderful!) HTC HD Mini.
I am finding that if I connect the USB cable to my Apple Mac Mini, the request for 'ActiveSync, Disk Drive, Modem' pops up, then after selecting 'Disk Drive', the disk does not mount on the Apple desktop, but even worse, the HD Mini locks totally and I have to remove and replace the battery before it will respond again. I have tried turning the 'do not charge from PC if on' option on and off, but this doesn't help at all.
I have had other Windows Mobile devices (Samsung and Toshiba TG01) and these have had no problem connecting to the Mac in this way.
Can you suggest anything please?
Dear Mark
Thank you for your enquiry about Mac.
I'm sorry but we don't really have any support on Mac, but you can try Missing sync. Just search through Google and you should find it, for more support i recommend you to contact Mac. Have a nice day!
Best regards,
Hello.
Perhaps I didn't explain my problem very well. I can use SyncMate to sync my calendar and contact information between my HTC HD Mini and my Mac Mini, but only using a WiFi connection.
The problem starts when I try to use the USB Drive facilities on the HD Mini to transfer program, music and video files from the Mac to the HD Mini. As soon as I connect the USB cable to the HD Mini, the HD Mini locks totally and I have to remove the battery before I can restart it. I have used other Windows Mobile devices with the (same) Apple Mac Mini in exactly the same way and had no problems - only with the HD Mini.
I hear reports on the XDA-Developers HD Mini forum that at least one other HD Mini and Apple Mac owner has the exact same symptoms on attempting the same thing.
Hoping you can help.
Dear Mark
Thank you for your enquiry about 3rd party.
We don't have any support on Sync mate, so you will have to contact them for assistance in theis area. This includes Mac which we don't support. But sync with windows you can use Active sync 4,5 for xp, and windows mobile device center 6,1 for Win vista/7, if you need guidance please call into our support line below. Good luck!
Best regards,
Can I make my query perfectly clear as it appears as though my problem has been misinterpreted.
My problem is that connecting my HTC Mini to my Apple Mac Mini in order to use the USB disk drive transfer facility of the HD Mini causes the HD Mini to lock totally, requiring me to remove the battery from the HTC HD Mini to reset it and to continue working.
I have had no problem using the same feature on other Windows Mobile phones in exactly the same way, on the exact same Apple Mac, using the exact same operating system.
Other people have also reported problems using this facility with other Apple Mac models. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=680635) One user here is reporting that this feature has worked with other HTC Windows Mobile Models, but not the HD Mini.
It has to be said that I'm struggling to see how my first question has yet to be answered. Still. We live in hope...
Thanks for all your help...
Had this reply from HTC today:
Dear Mark Thank you for your enquiry about Mac. I'm sorry we don't support Mac, so we're not alowed to help you setup your hd-mini with a Mac operating system. For assistance on this you'll need to contact Mac, i'm sorry for the inconvenience! Best regards,
And my (final) words:
Thanks for your reply.
It seems a great pity that such a useful facility cannot be used in this model, when it was available in previous models.
Whilst I understand that you do not support the Mac, should a device designed to work to a universal standard, such as USB not work on all devices regardless of operating system? I have never had problems with other 'standard' USB disk drives on the Mac, they all work on Windows, Linux and Mac machines. I would have expected the HD Mini to do so also, if not for the Sync features (which I expected) and not only for the WiFi and Bluetooth (which do work as expected on the Mac) but certainly for the USB disk facilities, facilities that do work on competing Windows Mobile Devices.
Should you try connecting the HD Mini to any Macs that you or your team may own and discover the reason for the lock-ups, please contact me.
Personally, I'd say that the problem lies with HTC - not Apple, but it doesn't look like anything is going to be done about it. Perhaps a future update will 'accidentally' fix the problem?
I can hope. Can't I???
I have just applied the ROM update for the HD Mini (released 28th May 2010).
This appears to have removed the lock up encountered when connecting the HD Mini to the Mac, so far at least.
Whilst this has not enabled the access to the SD card on the Mac, it does mean that Parallels (Windows XP) can now connect normally using ActiveSync for software installations and backups. Parallels too seems unable to access the SD card directly, but can browse the HD Mini device using ActiveSync.
Performing this ROM update did not delete any data on my device, despite the warnings that it would. Perhaps different versions of the device (mine was purchased SIM free and network unlocked) will lose some data during the upgrade process.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Need help: transforming my HD2 into a PS reciever for my laptop.

Hi everybody,
i want to use navigation on my laptop without buying a GPS enabled one.
I had my HD2 (still great phone), and need to connect it to my computer and having it work as a GPS reciever for the laptop software.
I guess that I will use Garmin software.
Does anyone has any answer, (I tried to search for it but no information).
Thx.
Hi!
You need to play around with GPS Gate app (Franson software, as I remember). After installing the subj. you choose virtual port number, bla-bla-bla... Connect your device in ActiveSync mode. I can't explain in full details - I've tried it about a year ago, spent several hours trying different configs untill it started to work with NavGPS application (and two-three others, too) on a Big Brother. One thing I remember exactly - it worked with ActiveSync under WinXP, but I couldn't get any results with Mobile Device Center under Win7.
Try different ways, good luck!
