VISTA BUILD 5600 WITH WMDC

hello!
i just installed a fresh new copy of Windows Vista x86 Build 5600 and I've realized that Windows Mobile Device Center isn't installed.
I've searched and at Microsoft I've downloaded a file: drvupdate-x86.msi which appears on Control Panel as Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update!
Well, It's not the program, is it??? I instalde Driver Update but I don't seem to install the Program at all!
I've searched on XDA and I've found some tips, which I've tried with no result!
Add Key to registry at HKLM\Software\Microsoft named WHOS. it's supposed when I plug USB cable to PC and Universal, appear on Windows upgrade saying there is a new upgrade available. Doesnt appear!
I've seen a topic saying:
"...Yes I have it working with both USB / BT :=)
Try this procedure.
1. Download this file.
http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...bc9 4587a.exe
2. Extract it using winrar. This will give you a file "wmupdate.msi"
3. Now be sure to logon to Vista as the built in admin and run "wmupdate.msi" and after that reboot and again login as built in admin, let it complete the install.
4.Login as your regular user, connect you phone and all should work:=)"
Downloaded the file and done all right but I dont seam to make it work!
I've ONCE installed WMDC with no errors but the device appeared "NOT CONNECTED".
Now, after a NEW fresh instalation, I cant even install WMDc!
Please help!
I would like to keep vista installed, but without sync there's no way!!!!

Universal rom flash problems

Would it be possible to re-flash a universal on a different computer if it failed on a pc with vista on it? i got error 101 on the pc with vista.
I'll be attempting the same rom-flash on pc with xp on it. The problem is that activesync doe not find the xda. The xda just shows usb v1.00 and serial when i disconnect the usb.
Any help would be appricated
Open your device in Bootloader mode,
Connect it via USB,
Open the ROM uploader exe,
Click next....
It won't be a problem, i think. It should work anywhere, not on just vista or xp..

I'm not sure if I understand correctly, but do you run the ROM file while it is still on the USB stick? Maybe it helps when you copy the files to a tempdir anywhere on the harddrive. Other points to take into consideration: did you run the USPL first, and do you use ActiveSync version 4.5? Since the XP pc is not connected to the net I presume it doesn't have a firewall installed, otherwise disable that too.
yes i put the rom firt on the harddisk.
then i connect the phone with activesync 4.5.
i always run the uspl first to be sure it go's okey.
then i wan't to run the ruu but it stil says corrupt.
i think i try to format the usb stick and try again.
other wise try to connect the pc upstairs and download the rom again.

No guide on the RUU? Download link?

So... I've somehow screwed up recovery, and now adb won't do anything... it connects (adb devices shows my serial#)...
Im tired of dianosing it, I just want to use the RUU and flash back to factory, and re-root.
Problem is, with the lack of modding around here... there's no sticky or link. It was somewhat difficult to find info on flashing back to factory status. Searching here, AndroidForums, and google.
The exe I downloaded starts to go through installshield and then does nothing. (the filename is RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1_signed_release.exe)
My computer is XP Home
what am I doing wrong?
That's the right file. So you run it, and you see installshield come up but then it never opens the window to walk you through starting your actual restore? Sounds like you have an issue with your computer too then.
check your drivers, reinstall if necessary.
if no go, barrow a computer and try it from there. I've found WinXP to be the easiest system to mod the Hero from (prolly because of my comfort with command line interface)

I can second this advice. I tried to run the .exe from a Win7 machine unsuccessfully. It would partially initiate the recovery process but then close itself after trying to detect the phone. In WinXP, the process was successful on the first attempt. If you don't have access to an XP machine, perhaps try starting the .exe as XP compatibility mode? You can right-click on the file and go to Properties to find those options.
This is a XP machine...
I can run adb devices and see the phone... and in fastboot usb the phone does show up device manager.

HTC Legend USB drivers

I got an HTC Legend that is branded to Vodafone. Trying to debrand it and following the Unlockr instructions--but the first thing to do is to set up android adb and load the windows drivers. I found the Windows drivers it did not work. I then found online a guy with advice on the two lines you need to add to the inf file--but it still does not work. I am on windows XP and getting frustrated because it looked like it copied over some driver files but it still is not recognizing the Legend.
Next I tried it on a mac but could not even find the USB drivers for mac. Google has now separated the inf file from the adb download. So the phone does not install itself automatically. So when i type "ADB devices" I don't get my phone serial number. So I am stuck. Any advice on how to do it with the Legend? All suggestions gratefully accepted.
Thanks

if your trying to use the android drivers you have to add a htc legend section into the drivers .inf file when you download the android sdk run the setup and only accept the driver then edit the .inf with your legend hardware ids and then it installs perfectly, this method works on both xp and win7
driving me nuts
could you show me how to do this please?
pics would be nice.
i'm also struggling to get my legend detected by any OS (XP, 7 x64, ubuntu x86).
doesn't seam to matter what i use (htc sync 2.0.33, PDAnet, drivers from websites - i've tried them all) i just can't get them to install and recognise my legend.
the thing i find a little worrying is that linux wont even pick up my legend in disk drive mode.
Hi, if you have installed htc sync it also installs the usb drivers.
after you install, unplug usb cable from phone, reboot computer.
after computer reboot plug in usb, hardware wizard shoud find a whole heap of new devices "android phone, adb. etc... on phone go into htc sync mode, more devices should be detected too. if none of these things happen you may have a usb device conflict with other usb devices connected (I had problems with a vodadfone wireless broadband dongle conflicting with other usb devices).
I have a legend with HBOOT 1.01 and i followed a guide on here
[guide] how to root HBOOT 1.01
I followed most of the steps (I didn't restore the backed up misc_backup.img) and the only problem i had was after i downgraded from froyo i needed extra drivers which are called "android 1.0". other than that I had no real issues that a reboot of computer didn't fix.
Hope this helps
