Good news everyone
Version v27, June 08, 2010
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
It is now working with HTC Desire, no need to have root access!
Voice input is working !
Plus bunch of other cool features (gestures, smileys, etc.)
Question and Answer
Q: Do I need root access to install this keyboard?
A: No, you dont. Really, you don't need root access!
Q: How do I install this keyboard?
A: Download the "hires" version, unzip it and transfer the HTC_IME_hi.apk to the phone. Use app manager like EStrongs or ASTRO to install this .apk file
Q: Do I need to install the Clicker.apk?
A: No, you dont. You only need this if your phone does not use HTC Sense UI
Q: How do I activate this keyboard?
A: After you installed the keyboard, do long press on a text input field. Then choose HTC IME Mod as input method. You need to do this just once.
Q: Does pinch to zoom still work with this keyboard?
A: Yes, it does work.
Q: Does the phone need to be connected to the internet to use voice input?
A: Yes
Q: But, the voice input still does not work! I pressed the voice input button and nothing came up.
A: Make sure your "voice search" is functioning, press the "Search" hardware button. If you don't see voice search icon then install this:
http://code.google.com/p/voicesearch/
Install only the VoiceSearch 2.1
Q: How to upgrade from old release to new release?
A: Use app manager like EStrongs or ASTRO then choose upgrade
Create your own keyboard themes? Go here:

let me get this clear, is this the default sense keyboard but with voice input button?

This is a modification of the HTC Sense keyboard, yes you are correct.
The modification adds some more nice features + bug fixes of HTC code.
Which also enable voice input.
In the past, we cannot install this on HTC Desire because it requires root.
But now you can, jonasl made some more changes to make it works as "external 3rd party" keyboard like "Better Keyboard" for example.
When you install this, your current default original HTC Sense keyboard will not be replaced.
So, it is safe! You can choose

great so to install it i just need to install the low and high res files and guess reboot or ?

can I install this beside the Verizon 2.1 Keyboard which is also installed on my phone? I prefer the stock keyboard to have mic input.

I think you don't install both hires and lowres its one or the other depend on resolution of screen. in our case hires version. correct me if im wrong.

I'm going to give this a try...
looking at the voice search included in verizon 2.1 keyboard, this is higher version than voicesearch_2.1.apk (v1.50 compare to v1.40). gonna try installing it beside verizon 2.1 keyboard.

works great, though struggles with the scottish accent

works great. now I can select 3 different keyboard gonna stick with HTC IME Mod Keyboard. thanks

yeah also works for me and loving it now i only need a shortcut to change language

For the n00bs amongst us, can anyone point me to some instructions on how to install apk files.
Cheers!

download and install astro app from market. place .apk file on sd card and use astro to install it on phone.

Oh right, you can do it with Astro? Cool, I just got that. I had a quick Google around for info and they seemed to use other apps.
That's fine though, Astro it is!
Cheers

you need to enable it first;
goto menu > setting > languages and keyboard > checked HTC_IME mod.
then turn it on by the instructions below.

to turn it on you need to long press on the screen where you are typing and a popup will appear. choose input method and choose HTC_IME mod. then soft reset the phone. voila!

[NEW] K's Touch PCM Keyboard Skin & Layout

Here's my PCM Touch Keyboard. The keyboard has HTC Symbol pad's symbols fully integrated into it. By holding down certain keys for 250ms, you'd be able to toggle certain symbols. For example, holding down "a" will show all the "a" accents. Holding down "spacebar" will show common browser shortcuts, and etc etc.
*I don't know why the first picture looks brighter than the others...*
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Holding down the numbers will also toggle some symbols. These are usually symbols that are listed on your ordinary full size keyboard. For example,
1=~, !
[email protected]
3=$ (and various $ signs)
5=%
As you can see, I have also included some ghetto smileys into the mode button tapping the mode button doesn't change anything as there's only 2 modes in this keyboard (caps lock and lower case - double tap shift to toggle between them). However, holding down the mode button will show some commonly used symbols found at the lower portion of a keyboard.
The keyboard is based on the English layout. If you native language is not English, simply change the first two lines of the layout to the layout you commonly use. Everything else should work regardless of the base layout.
Installation is simple, just toss both files into Program Files\PCM Keyboard, select the layout and skin from pcm keyboard option and you are done.
BEFORE INSTALLATION
-open up the layout file with notepad, and replace this line:
symbol_pad=0,)-_+±
There's an extra "-" in the original layout file as seen in picture.

sir.... looks good but couldnt try coz the file is corrupt....
Looks good, but do you still need to update the PCM Keyboard every now and then? Because the PCM Keyboard has "expired date" which is really annoying.
I would rather to pay (even in this beta version) rather than having to visit the site, download, uninstall, reinstall, etc. etc.
I'm not sure if 0.12 still expires....I'm actually rather new to PCM Keyboard...I skinned it because I wanted a better keyboard to be used with my touch style rom...and the touch xt9 keyboard/keypad is a pita.....
Well, I hope you guys like it, you can easily customize the keyboard layout file to show whatever symbols you want when you hold down a key
Wow! wonder ful. I like it...
I like the look. Its my new skin.
Shouldn't it be "http://" instead of "http:\\"?
Also i could never figure out why on the skins they always have the "'" key above the backspace instead of something like the ".". I don't use hte "'" key as much as I do ".". I usually just change it in the layout file myself.
Is it possible to have a button to switch screen orientation?
Jem777
Really nice, i usually use the PhonePad, but with these nice tweaks u've done 2 it i'll 4sure give it a try...
Thanx for a great work
As noted above, the zip file seems to be corrupt. Downloads okay but won't open.
The current version of PCMK, v.12, is set to expire on Jan 15 or thereabouts. So, yes, it still does expire. I agree it is a bit annoying. But the keyboard is generally great with the rigth skin. I prefer the other "refined" one to this. This is complete, but the buttons are too small IMO. Still both are nice. Different strokes for different folks.

I was curious how this layout would look with my black iphone skin... So if you like BIG keys and this layout, you can select K's layout and one of the iphone skins from my thread above. The screen shot is of this configuration.
Good work K! I like some of your shortcuts.
Here is my skin and layout...
the bigger keyboard is nice. I'd skin it with the touch look later
Just wanted to see a side by side comparison.

So what exactly doesn't work about the installation?
This dialer has Smartdialing so the last person you called will be displayed on the screen and all you would have to do is press the send button.
You really don't need a redial button when you have that especially when you also have a history button that displays any last calls.
my friend this is a cool skin.but it doesn't install.. right before it gets to the end of the installation, it says it can not install it to the location you choose( main memory) it doesn't finish the install process..can you help me?
Thank you

also i dont see the send button. i see the back button (the <---- arrow) and the history button. i tried look over several times, but i dont see the send button?

Try installing this cab that I will attach. It's called the Touch CAB.
Install this after the mogul big button CAB and then any custom dialer.
It should work because I tried this in the past.
Also, this dialer does not have a dedicated talk button. Because most phones have talk / end buttons.
this is great! but the installation doesn't work for me either. i'm using 3.3 Touch version and it says it can't install to main memory.
i even tried going flight mode and closing cprog.exe and it still doesn't install. if you can maybe release the graphics files themselves, we can do it manually.
is there ANY chance you add a 3G version?
thanks!

this dialer does not support video calling. maybe in the future if i get a hold of a dialer with video calling, then i can work on that.
but for now i will let superflysocal test out the touch / gsm dialers. but i cant post the graphics at this time. especially with out his consent. we have equal rights to these dialers.
i can provide you with a 3G dialer.

Hi! I have tried to install the V3_4 but it says "It can be installed" just in the end of the installation process. I have tried closing cprog.exe task, but not result.
I have a GSM Htc Touch, and I have installed some of your skins before, but this one... no result.
neither v3_3
I installed V3 2 on my Hermes after installing the HTC Dialer and everything works, but it is missing the graphics for the End key. It is only gray instread of red.
Hold on, everybody, we are trying to work this out...be patient.

[KEYBOARD]HTC IME v27 (Shu8i/Mattc/Hd2/Nexus One Themed)

I used to make my own keyboards to my liking using a generator that made a modded version of HTC_IME for my myTouch. But since I have Android on my HD2 I figured i would try it, instead of a Low Res version, it provided a High Res Version. So i created one on http://www.gimpsta.com/themer/ that works on ALL android roms but looks great on Shu8i's.

[BOUNTY][PAID] null keyboard w/ toggle widget on-screen (soft) keyboard

i have a mini Bt keyboard for my cappy, hate the on-screen (soft key) keyboard poping up when a hardware keyboard is present.
ive seen many people looking around for this too, IM WILLING TO PAY!
a simple way to "possibly" do this,
for win mo they had a "null keyboard" (blank keyboard) that could be installed and switched to, to "hide" it.
a widget that will toggle input method could accomplish this if with a blank keyboard to install as well.
other thoughts...
something else i came accross dont know if it helpls..
http://www.androidsnippets.com/how-to-remove-focus-and-hide-the-on-screen-keyboard
So far I will personnaly put up $10, anyone else want to sweeten the pot? PAID!!
Done!
Install it and you will get an extra Keyboard "Null Keyboard v2".
Select it as input method and your good to go .
Let me know if it works.
First one is just the Keyboard
The second one is the Keyboard + Widget
Edit: Added 2nd version with Widget.
Done! it works, money SENT!,
i just have some suggestions for re-finement, so its nice and pollished!
i see the widget isnt necessary as you can long click any dialog box to bring up the "select input method" window. however, could you make the widget bring up that selection window instead of locale and text?
and on first "placing" widget on desktop, a pop-up comes up telling you to enable NullKey2 in "local and text".
as far as function, i have no more suggestions, maybe color options? you could select a color in the same window that pops up (i suggested) to tell user to enable in local and text...
with those changes it would definately be worth .99 at least on Android market.
for anyone following this thread, it is still under very quick development and all further versions will be available on the market from Dark3n !
here is a screenshot of the latest version (my personal name version)
this should be in the market next month according to Dark3n.

for win mo they had a "null keyboard" (blank keyboard) that could be installed and switched to, to "hide" it.
a widget that will toggle input method could accomplish this if with a blank keyboard to install as well.
other thoughts...
something else i came accross dont know if it helpls..

Might want to point out it's the creator who is selling it. I was a bit confused at first
Neat idea for an app though. Kudos to both you guys.
the creator usually does sell their work. and was stated he would. there arent many pages to follow...

As yes, my appologies -- I missed it next to your 500 ft screenshot
Still, take the compliment and chillax. Was just saying it was confusing at first glance. It's a cool app and idea.

Done!
Install it and you will get an extra Keyboard "Null Keyboard v2".
Select it as input method and your good to go .
Let me know if it works.
First one is just the Keyboard
The second one is the Keyboard + Widget
Edit: Added 2nd version with Widget.

Is there any way to disable the blank area from coming up?
try PM ing him and are you using the market version or the tester version in this thread?
and what blank area?
hey that mini keyboard you posted a few pages back looks freakin AWESOME.
Do you have any more information on it by chance besides 'mini bt keyboard' from eBay?
and does it come out of that case?
yup right here

Would it be feasible to add the possibility to still have the dictionary prediction/correction for what you type with the external keyboard while using Null Keyboard?

[GUIDE] How to install Thumb Keyboard or Swiftkey Tablet X on Kindle Fire

Some people reporting having difficult installing Thumb Keyboard on the Kindle Fire, but I was desperate to get it to work and I finally did! This is how I did it, it's not very complicated. Like everything, this assumes that you have root access.
I used aruangra's very helpful instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364543
1. Install Nook Color Tools http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868366 in order to switch keyboard (as Amazon removed that option)
2. Install Thumb Keyboard, but no need to launch
3. Use ES file explore (with Root feature and RW mount enabled in the advanced setting) or use Root Explorer to copy the keyboard .apk file from /data/app to /system/app
4. Make sure that the permissions for the apk in /system/app is Read/Write for owner, and it's "Read only" for everyone else
5. Copy the file in /data/data/com.beansoft.keyboardplus/lib/ to /system/lib (thanks Jmalto) or it could be located in /data/data/com.beansoft.keyboardplus/com.beansoft.keyboardplus/lib/ (thanks toonakan)
6. Reboot device
7. Launch Nook Color and you should see the following. If you don't see this. You did something wrong... sorry try starting over
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
8. It is now installed! Enjoy! You now have a split keyboard on the Kindle Fire!
You can follow the similar steps to get SwiftKey Tablet X working. Except for step 5, copy the file from /data/data/com.touchtype.swiftkey.tablet.full/lib (or something similar). Otherwise, the steps are pretty much the same.
I followed instructions to the letter. Launched Nookcolor tools selected choose keyboard and it showed Thumb Keyboard as an option but it FCs. I tried moving vs. copying in your instructions and it still FC'd. Did you use NookColor .1 or .2? I used .2 and moved into system/app as recommended in the instructions.
--Update: /data/data/com.beansoft.keyboardplus/lib/ was actually /data/data/com.beansoft.keyboardplus/com.beansoft.keyboardplus/lib/ in my version 4.3.4
Thanks for the post! I am super excited to have this keyboard.
No problem! I'm glad that it worked
nook Color app critical? Normally I just long press a typable area and it pops up the keyboard choices.
Also tablet X worked for me without moving any lib files around.
I don't think that you need to use Nook Color, you can do as you say and long press any text input and choose your input method there. I got the keyboard to work with Nook Color, so that's just how I happen to described the steps.
Thank you, was missing my thumb keyboard.
I'm curious what the thumb keyboard looks like in portrait mode? I use that about 60% of the time.
Image of Thumb Keyboard Portrait on Kindle Fire
Bought the program... works pretty good. Image include of portrait mode.
One minor gripe is the minimize feature... If you press and hold the configuration key, you can then slide over and minimize the keyboard. Would be nice to have minimize as the default rather than configure but I don't see how to do that.
An alternative is that is is supposed to minimize if you swipe down, however I can't get that to work. Swiping up, brings up the configuration menu's though.

Sweet! Thumb keyboard works great, thanks.
Nice summary but one Minor nit...
I'd read this thread on my Transformer and came back once I had my Fire in hand to find it again. I'd already added a few keyboards but remembered the mention of the NookColor Tools apk and that sounded much handier than editing the settings.db or trying to get a long click to take in a text entry field to change the keyboard. But when I did a search on the forum I couldn't find this thread because item 1) in the directions forgot the word "Tools" when describing the app.

Any way to keep the menu bar visible while using SwiftKey (or any of the other keyboards). I only tried SwiftKey.
Great job with everyone for getting alternate keyboards working. Has anyone tried getting Swype onto the Fire? I've been using Swype on my phone for so long now that I can't go back to regular keyboards (tried both STX and TK).

Did you really not see the half dozen threads on how to install Swype that are scattered on this and the Android development subforums?

This works for Graffiti if you are a stylus fan...like me
Anyone know if we can get the Honeycomb version of Swype somehow? That would be a.m.a.z.i.n.g.
How do you uninstall keyboards? I downloaded a version of swiftkey tablet x that doesn't minimize when I swipe down.
I can confirm this process works with Google PinYin inputmethod 1.4
Addition steps to get Google PinYin working.
First, I used a sideloaded app from a HTC Sensation
I installed the app from my sdcard and it installed in /data/app called com.google.android.inputmethod.pinyin-1.apk and I copied to /system/app then set the correct permissions.
copy both files located in /data/data/com.google.android.inputmethod.pinyin/lib/ to /system/lib/
libjni_googlepininime_4.so
libjni_googlepinyinime_latinime_4.so
Trouble Minimizing Swiftkey Keyboard?
For what it's worth, (and you'll see similar frustrations in other threads), the problems with minimizing the Swiftkey keyboard seem to be resolved by using the phone version, rather than Swiftkey Tablet X. And while that solves one problem another arises: once you've installed both or either via the helpful guide at the beginning of this thread, their icons disappear from the Apps Carousel. (Well, mine did.) You can still open them by going through the market, which isn't great but at least works. Anyway, hope that helps. If anyone has any idea why their icons disappear, I'd love to hear.
Works However
Works however, on every reboot I have to reinstall the keyboards otherwise they force close. Is this how it is or there's a solution?
