Strange G1 exiting from sleep and signal strength issue - G1 General

i and my wife have G1's. i got mine first, april of 2009, and is the bronze model. i got hers from a friend about a month ago. i do not know when hers was originally purshased. hers is a G1 black.
ok, around july of 2009 i rooted mine and have used umpteen different versions of cyan roms and others. i have always has crappy signal strength with t-mockery here. at home i'm lucky to have any signal and at most 2 bars for a short period of time. after i got hers and rooted it, i noticed she and i can be sitting side by side, and her have 2-4 bars, me with none. we have the same rom, radio, spl, recovery, etc. does anyone know of certain G1's just simply having crappy reception? is this a specific hardware issue meaning i need to replace a specific part?
also, if my phone goes into sleep mode or if i put it into sleep mode with the red buton, and immediately re-wake it, the screen is dark. i have to put it to sleep again and re-wake it for it to be bright. this is regardless what brightness level i have my phone set to. hers does not EVER do that. i cant really define weather it is actual brightness or screen contrast that is the issue, but it is darker.
anyone familiar with these issues with specific G1's? i have googled and searched xda with every serch phrase i can think of and have not found one article or post with similar circumstances.
thank you for any assistance you guys may be able to provide.
i forgot:

First update your recovery to the latest Amon_RA recovery for g1, (more features and much more stable) then go and find the latest radio for the g1 (2.22.23.02). Just flash it, you don't have to worry about changing SPL's.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640535 (radio)
The radio should give you a boost in signal. I went from 1-2 bars of 3G to 3-4 bars of 3G.
If you find the time, make a complete backup of your apps and settings using titanium backup, do a complete wipe and repair ext, then go to the latest Super D. I doubt Cyanogen is going to update is ROMs because now the Nexus One's development is going full speed.
Now lets see of the g1 has any more problems. Do the same things your wife's g1 because she should see a huge improvement too.

LOL. funny. i just did the amon ra and latest radio update, and just before turning off my browser, i went back to this thread and reloaded to see your post. too funny.
i cant tell any gains in signal strength with this latest radio. only time will tell i guess. i'll give it a few days before posting any opinions on the radio.
however, the amon ra is awesome. so much better!!! i'm not familiar with any of it's features yet other than the nandroid backup, wich was present in the cyan version. i do like that i can choose with backup to revert to now!
i saw something about titanium and bart in another thread. i will familiarize myself with them tomorrow.
have you ever heard of this screen dark coming out of sleep thing? that has pestered the life out of me since i got this phone. it was the first thing i noticed different about hers. i have tried a bluezillion times to get her to duplicate this and cant. it's crazy.
i see youre in columbus ga. awesome. i spent some time in ft.benning what seems like a thousand years ago.
thanks for your quick response!

His Twitter feed says he's about to release a 4.4 version soon. If you're having issues with performance/stability, it makes sense to use the most conservative, functional ROM you can find.

well, i have now installed cyan 5.0.7. hella faster!!! this is by far the fastest and most reliable ROM i have installed!!! battery drain sucks, but i can deal with that for now. the radio mentioned above did help signal strength some, but not a lot. i have more bars where i used to have just a few, and here at home i get signal more often, but it's still not great.
the screen thing still happens. i cant figure it out. it has done this since the day i got the phone. i just thought it was a g1/htc/android thing. i didnt realize that all of the other g1's did not do this until i got my wife's phone. i still cant find anything similar reported anywhere. i have googled every term i can think of. i dont know if it's a programming issue, hardware issue, or an issue specific to a few phones produced in a certain lot. hell, i may be the only one in the world with this problem!!!!
i have come up with a simple solution though. my wife never uses the physical keyboard. it's "too hard to type on" she says. so, i am now looking for an htc touch for her, then i by default, get her g1. LOL.
never-the-less, if anyone has ever heard of this type of screen darkening issue, please post something. it's a pain in the butt.

Have I broken my Radio.....?

I have flashed about every ROM from this site and all versions. Pre Network Range Extender I had no real issue with signal except my lead bunker of a house and elevators. Since then I have tried all the Eris Radios from 1.22-4.12 and can't get much past 2 bars in most areas. Sure I know that calculating signal strength and representing it on a strength bar is hard but I am on calls and could be out in the wide open and next to a tower and have to find one spot to stand and get a call to go through.
I have gone from 2.1 root to 1.5 downgrade and re-rooted and still no luck. I don't know what else to do to try to improve my signal.
I have come to the conclusion that maybe I have flashed too much and damage the radio possibly??? More a question than a statement.
After upgrading your radio, did you do a *228 op 2? I dont think its possible but I am not a dev. I have flashed over 300 times and almost every ROM and I have only flashed a few radios (wont do that anymore though) and not had this issue. So that is why I said its prob not that. Maybe its hw related?
Yeah every time I flash a new ROM if it is possible I *228 op 2 and 1.
Hope it isn't a Hardware issue that will suck ass if so....No more luck getting the 1.5 Eris's.
After going to 2.1 mine started showing a much lower signal strength. I flashed a Sprint 2.42.01.04.27 baseband rom but it didn't seem to help much.
I heard somewhere that maybe the method it uses to calculate the bars changed, what we'd need is two phones side by side that were getting vastly different bar ratings. Then we could see what numeric signal strength they had and compare.
Stop looking at the bars for your signal strength. Go into About Phone, and look for an option that says Signal Strength. The LOWER number in the db level, the BETTER your signal is.
Stop using ' the bars' as your
Meter.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
Not using the bars as my guide to signal I am using the fact that I can't make a phone call to people or when I get one that I have to stand in one place so I don't loose it. I am fully aware that the calcs for signal strength isn't the greatest. I just wanted to know if it is possible that you can flash your phone to the point that it won't work?

Well... I don't know what the radio uses to store it's radio image, but guessing that it's flash memory, all flash memory does wear out after a while, but you could use that piece of flash memory every day for like 5 years before experiencing ANY ill effects, though if the flash memory is of not-so-good quality, that number may be less. Still, it's unlikely you flashed your radio that much. Plus, the flash memory degrading would cause a problem of files being corrupted or deleted. That would make the radio inoperable, rather than having it degrade in quality. I seriously doubt that you flashing radios degraded it, though you could check that the antenna's firmly in the phone (DO NOT PULL IT OUT OR ATTEMPT TO PEEL IT UP!) Just a forewarning.
If all else fails, hold it differently!
CPCookieMan
call verzion and ***** em out..hopefully they'll give you a new phone or a discount on an upgrade...lol
Thanks CPCookieman I really don't like to even flash the radio if possible just for the fact that it is a good instabricker process if something goes wrong. I have probably flashed a radio 5 time with this phone mostly just ROM swapping. I still am convinced that this stupid Range extender I had to buy to get any signal in my house hasn't some how Ef'd up my phone. I works awesome on it but no were else and the issue didn't start until shortly after I got it.
The damn thing sucks so bad I can't upload and talk at the same time or you will hear every other thing I say. How should I approach Big Red with a rooted phone and getting real support?

I am so done with Android

I have been using Android since cupcake and it's going to end with my Nexus One. Reasons:
These are problems I've had with various roms, most stock roms, some MIUI:
- The Camera, no matter which ROMS I get when I try and take a picture it reboots the phone after freezing. I cannot use my 5MP camera at all because of this.
- After leaving the phone charging for awhile then going back to it when I push one spot on the screen it thinks I've pushed a completely different spot. I require a full reboot to fix this.
- My keyboard, stock keyboard, sometimes turns all white. You then cannot see what you're typing and there's just this big white bar.
- To fix the above I got Better Keyboard. It force closes often, and sometimes when I try to type with it what I'm typing doesn't get inserted into the selected input box.
- I got five hours of STANDBY (not using phone at all) battery life on Gingerbread. I had to downgrade back to froyo to get normal battery life back.
- After ten seconds or so if you don't use your screen it's supposed to DIM. Regardless of whether or not I'm using my phone it still dims after ten seconds.
So as far as Android goes come October when my three year Bell contract expires I'll be selecting an iPhone. I am done with Android problems of all kinds. That's not to say there's not a lot of things I like about Android but I can't just keep on going with it whilst experiencing these annoying problems, when I've never experienced any problems of any sort on my jailbroken iPad.
Did you ever try using your warranty? Really sounds like you had a dodgy handset.
Sounds like your phone is a lemon. I experience none of that....don't think anything you mentioned is a problem of android itself, you just got unlucky with your phone

Again, this sounds like either something wrong with your rom or a hardware issue. I have never seen this issue.
Yeah, you're an idiot. Sorry, but you're blaming problems that either you have created or hardware problems on Android, the operating system.
But go ahead and leave Android. It sounds like you're not really technology capable of much more than an iPhone (and really, this is probably going to be pushing your technological limits it seems), so that is probably what you should stick to.
I won't be as harsh as the others
The only problem you mentioned that is N1 related is the screen, rest are probably rom related. If your flahsing all those roms you already know they are not guaranteed to work on all phones.
If you want to try another phone, try the new Sensation or equivalent. Android is still much better than Apple. IMHO. That said, my son and his wife have been Apple users for 20 years or as long as I can remember. They have used nothing else. So, I think the iphone is a good phone, just not for everyone. As android is not for everyone. I once thought Blackberry was unbeatable, I was wrong bigtime. When I first started using them, they may have been. But, not any more.
You are probably like me and get an itch to try something different. I am currently running RCADSmix Sense rom with a number of issues. But, I like it so much, I will put up with the issues. Probably means my next phone will be the Sensation or it's future quadcore brother.
Enjoy whatever you get, I still remember when a six transistor am radio was an upgrade. These are great tech times--

Im just guessing here but your in Canada with bell? bell doesn't offer the nexus one. how are you on a contract? Ill also agree with everyone else your problems are not android related. Sounds like a hardware issue. Good luck with the iPhone my brother loves his. I like the design but that's it.
Just flashed cyanogen latest version. New problems:
1. Sometimes when turning on the phone the lock screen doesn't show up, just my background displays and nothing else. Reboot required by pulling battery out in order to fix.
2. Display menus don't show up sometimes.
3. Already experienced this one, but the keyboard is yet again going completely white.
Anyone want to point me towards an actual working rom without any problems or does such a thing exist

Because not all of these problems are with the hardware and you, or myself are incapable of diagnosing them without more extensive investigation to the handset.
Roms work fine. Your phone doesn't
Most people have no or little problems with these roms
Most if not all issues are improper flashing or incomplete wipes--like not wiping system and data and caches multiple times
Check md5s
Or, not properly partitioning sdcard
If still issues then the phone has too many bad blocks for the rom and kernal
Ken
After reading your first post again, I think it is your phone and not common issues. I have never had a bad camera unless specifically noted on the OP page of an alpha type rom.
I can tell you how I do my sdcard and prepare for a new rom if you like. If my procedure doesn't work you will never have any better luck flashing with that particular phone.
Sorry
Ken
I'm with Telus on my N1 and i've never ever seen any of the problems you mentioned. I've also flashed alot of different roms/kernels/apps/etc and nothing like you had mentioned.
I did however have an issue that resembles your camera issue. Mine was the GPS causing my phone to reboot every time i used it. I didn't really notice it much until i started using it for GPS nav and such. Tried flashing different roms, going back to stock and issue still came up. Called HTC and sent my phone back under warranty. They told me they replaced the board and i have not seen the problem ever since.
I strongly recommend giving HTC a call and see if you can send your phone in for repairs.
That's what iPhone is for. To protect incompetents like yourself from themselves.
You should be nowhere near a rooted phone.
I have the exact same camera issue. The reason is a date of my beloved Nexus and my washing mashine. So it might be a hardware problem for you as well. Sometimes with some roms the camera seems to work 1 out of 10 times.
Bluetooth, fm radio died as well but everthing else is just fine. Some roms seem to check/use camera, radio or bluetooth during a reboot. Then the rom won't start at all or it makes random problems.
This phone is a beast. 20 minutes in the washing mashine at 60°C couldn't really destroy it. Even between screen and digitizer there was water and I had to disamble the phone three times and dry the parts for one week in a rice bowl to get it to work again.

Got this also, annoying but I'm quite sure it goes along with flashes. Pretty sure it will be normal on stock rom.
Actually mate I think you should upgrade your radio...
I used to have this issue with the camera before, get the latest radio and ur camera issue will be solved.
and the battery as well i guess
as for the keyboard and all the other problems just go to rom manager and flash cm 7.1 rc1 from there, make sure you wipe cache, and dalvik cache
it should solve ur issues

I have to say, the stock epic 4g is a great phone

With all due respect to the great developers we have here, the Epic 4g, just as stock, not even rooted, with either launcherpro or my current favorite: go launcher ex, plus whatever apps you want is a very good phone.
If I hadn't rooted my phone, the main difference is that I wouldn't be able to use titaniumbackup to make sure if my phone crashes, I can get my app, calls and messages back. I also restart faster because of my root restart button, but that's both minor and almost the full extent of what my phone can do that the next person on stock cannot do.
Oh, I have a bunch of battery and performance tweaks that I don't even understand in my rom. So my phone probably runs smoother and longer for a given intensity of usage than it did out of the box.
But while I am very thankful to the developers for making this phone much better, I'm also thankful to Samsung and Sprint for giving the developers a lot to work with.
If a person around me pulls out an iphone 4s, it has a smaller, duller, more fragile screen, no keyboard, not as good sound since I have voodoo (that too). For me, my phone that came out a year earlier is just better. In fact, I pretty much have the best phone available with a keyboard. Other than its newer clone on Verizon.
I also think 4" may be the optimal screen size for a phone for me. I'm not excited about my next phone two or so years from now having a 4.5" or bigger screen.
On top of that, not everyone does, but I have my phone on Boost mobile (thanks developers here) and pay $45 a month for unlimited 3g, talk and messages. I'm in cell-phone nirvana by 2011 standards.
Sprint and Samsung got me 75% there and the developers at xda brought me the rest of the way home.
Not incorrect on many counts. I was stock until after Froyo except my 1 month test of DK28. Mainly, I'm in agreement that rooting allows you to tidy up the place and put in fresher decorations.

Exactly !!! I came from TP2 Windows straight to epic and i loved stock, but with the great developers on here i love all the hacks and mods and roms they do!!!
I still don't have a compelling enough reason to switch from rooted stock EC05, although I've tweaked it plenty. I'm sure many roms are great but there's no killer look or feature that's lured me. The phone will be even better once stock GB hits.
I switched back to stock a few weeks back. A few observations:
Battery life is better than it was with any of the ROMs I was running, particularly the ROMs that weren't SRF 1.2. Signal strength is also better than it was with most of the ROMs.
On the other hand, I've noticed an odd issue where my Epic randomly vibrates (like, two quick pulses) and then either crashes or restarts the launcher. Dunno what this is about or why it happens but it's pretty annoying.
I just recently made the switch back to stock as well.. Sometimes you just miss it.

I don't really recall this happening while rooted. Also, this is a problem that's started happening relatively recently. I was initially running stock for at least six months before ever rooting and I don't recall the Epic ever crashing. I got a bit tired of some of the other issues with ROMs and went back to stock again last month. Maybe I'll get the thing checked out at a Sprint store.
Yes, the Epic is a great phone stock, but a large percentage of your reasoning still great came from modified content.
What I took from your post was was: the stock Epic is a great phone, and the devs at XDA provide the few needed tweaks to fix anything that isn't already perfect with it. That's my opinion as well.

make sure you take it to the one that "accidently" loads Gingerbread on it

Airing of Grievances

Ok we all know the big one, no FFC or WiMax in post-GB ROMs. I got four more. What do you got?
Even bone-stock OTA's from Sprint have two irritating things I just have to get off my chest.
First, you can't see how long a call was.
(I know, AOSP people don't have this issue. Thank you. Talking about stock here.)
Sprint appears to have a nasty habit of releasing phones with this feature intact only to surreptitiously remove it with an OTA patch *after* the phone has been on the market awhile. (This behavior goes back to at least 2003
judging by http://forums.webosnation.com/palm-os-devices-apps/42853-get-call-duration-sprint-t600-call-log.html, and of course the feature was working fine on the Evo until they released the first Gingerbread OTA.)
Why should I have to install an app to fix this?
Then of course there's the unused WiMax Notifier LED. Minor point except when you are charging the phone you get no LED notifications at all.
(I know, AOSP people don't have this issue. Thank you. Talking about stock here.)
With Froyo and earlier you used to be able to run an app called WiMax Notifier and it worked pretty well. But with GB it broke and you needed tons of root elevation to get it to work. LightFlow works ok, but occasionally it misses a notification.
As everyone knows, features that mostly work except intermittently are the worst of all.
For instance, every AOSP ROM since .. ever .. has that annoying thing where you press the power button and the screen doesn't exactly wake up sometimes. The capacitive buttons come on and the LCD is actually doing something, but you wouldn't know it because the backlight doesn't come on. No combination of minimum clock speed or governor *completely* eliminates this, I'm sorry.
Another example: I had to stop running Evervolv because the alarm clock went off with *no sound* a couple times too many. It works great EXCEPT WHEN IT DOESN'T.
Basically, something only needs to fail 1% of the time for you to COMPLETELY LOSE TRUST in it.
Ok there's a few of mine, what are your pet peeves?

Damn brother, you dont dislike android,do ya?hahaha, you might want to get an Iphone, hahaha.Just kidding, the only thing thats pushing me away from android,is all the OS's look alike, nothings different,i myself am not a ICS/JB fan and im now sick of Sense based roms also,so i am also looking around at different OS's,i'd like to get ahold of this new Jolla Sailfish or the Firefox OS phones, now i would be interested in trying those out.But in all honesty,my favorite flavor is Sense, but i do like the flexability of ICS and JB.
OK, I can come up with a few.
Speaking of the LED. The Light that comes on when it's charging. The light that comes one when you do get a notification. Those aren't the only 2 lights under that little screen. So why can't we use the rest of them.
Up until GB, HTC released code, normally within about a month of a new version. GB took a lot longer. ICS & JB, nada. WTH happened to open Source?
Why did my Ca[citive lights die after my first ICS ROM? Why don't they come back, even when I flash back to Stock/Unrooted?? Why do they work, very occasionally, but really, they're dead. I really miss those lights, especially in the dark.
And to Sprint; Thanks for the slowest 3G speeds on the planet, no 4G and probably no LTE in my area, ever, or at least not for a very long time, but hey, enjoy that 480 extra dollars you've gotten from me in the last 4 years...
Ok here's one I just remembered: AOSP stock "mail" app. Delete a message by accident? No undo. Stays in Trash folder forever.
No way to move a message from one IMAP folder to another?
Seriously? You're making me download a separate slightly-less-bare-bones mail app just so I can find a message I accidentally nuked with a stray touch?
It's like the 3G speeds thing - there's enough irritations *when everything is working correctly*, never mind stuff that is actually broken.
Heck I am happy with all my data speeds but will never have 4g. All I can say about the 4g is that I am glad I don't have to pay that extra for it and not get it. Thanks to the fact I am flashed to someone besides sprint. Almost 2 Mb download burst with a sustained 500 Kb.
Now I have flashed many ics and jb roms and while most of them my back lights work they have never failed to return to working. Sorry to hear that you had that issue hipkat.
Now as far as the aosp lockscreen issue I have only had that issue on a couple of roms. Decks reloaded was the only one I can remember for sure. Yet most of them never gave me any issue in that manner ever.
We all know not every evo is equal. My first one died of the dreaded aosp death. That one never would run decks rom no matter what I tried. My current on will run anything I put on it except one. The only reason for that is the kernel was overclocked to high for my CPU.
Long live the evo!

Sprint HTC Bolt Overheating and Slow internet

Hi to all. I got the Bolt during the 50% off deal online with Sprint. I jumped from the HTC One M9. I really love the Bolt, but I got 2 concerns at the moment. First, I think the phone is overheating (more that it should considering the SD810 i think). It gets too hot to the touch on the back during regular use (FB, instragram, ocassional taking of pictures, web browsing and maybe playing a game). with temps up to 109 °F and 110 °F. Sometimes it gets hot playing music using the included USB type C headphones. Secondly, I can't get LTE internet speeds faster than 1 - 2 MBPs for download while getting upload speeds of 2-3 MBPs. I tried PRL Updates, Profile Updates in different zones and soft resets of the phone with no luck. I tried also looking for a solution online and even at sprint.com but I couldn't find any claims of the same issues I'm having. Maybe those temps are normal? But i'm pretty sure the internet should run faster. Any ideas that could help? Wanted to try here before taking it to repairs for diagnostics, because I hate the process of setting up the phone from factory settings, specially without root and titanium backup in case the unit is deffective.
Thanks in advance

I haven't seen any heat issues though the 810 is known for running hot. Could be something running in the background. This phone comes with so much effen bloat it's ridiculous! Rooting and/custom rom will help with that :good:
Have you checked what band your on? Speeds good here...

Holly s. @OMJ. That LTE is fast lol. I'm in a limited area so I get 1-2mbps on LTE peak. 12mb non peak.
Got a few CA towers within 30min of me. 100mbps plus and it's super fast.
Thanks for the reply. Seriously considering rooting. Kinda rusty here, my last rooted phone was the M8. What band I should be in? I'm getting the information included in attachment.

Just depends on the tower, band 25 is their 1900 mhz band which is slower than band 41 which is 2500 mhz. Sounds like that tower is need of an upgrade...

So there may be nothing wrong with my phone. Just that is loaded with a lot of bloatware and that the cell towers near me are old. Thanks. Think I'll try rooting and removing all non needed crap and hopefully that fixes the heating prob. :fingers-crossed:

Here at work is the same. ? I will try every place I go until I find a place with band 41 (if it exists in PR). I'll not losing hope LOL
This is my first HTC so not sure if it's normal, but I have noticed it get extremely hot. I can't imagine heavy use and during the summer. I wonder if this is normal or they would eventually recall the product. Lol not trying to sound like a pansy, but it feels really uncomfortable on my hands and inside my pocket when it gets hot. I have noticed it cool down when i go under the developer option and max out the cpu. I may root and debloat to see if it helps. Also I've noticed my internet speed on wifi is laggy, however while on LTE it's much faster.
Slow htc bolt

I'm a huge HTC fanboy, I have never owned anything but HTC. I've never been immpressed by LG or Samsung. Rooting is easy on HTC I know much easier than Samsung.
Any updates on this? Mine overheats from time to time as well. Also locks up and lags. I disabled apps and am running only the essentials. I guess I'll see how that works.

Mine gets warm but my problem is the lagging. It specifically shows up when you pan the camera around, it takes seconds for the phone to catch up to the new view plus the camera seems to be constantly trying to focus. On phone videos and crackle are very choppy - unwatchable. phone still seems to work ok, internet speeds are good, apps run and udpate.
Very frustrating as i have always liked the HTC product.
I followed the BadBoyz ROM for some time and at last this sunday decided to jump in the wagon hehehe. Took me a while to decide to finally install a custom ROM but here I am. Everything now seems so smooth and without any lag. The phone doesn't heat up as it used to when I posted this thread looking for recommendations. The internet speeds the blame is on Sprint here in PR. I flashed the MAGISK Root version of the Bad Boyz 2.0 ROM clean and no complains at the moment. Still need to test it some more, but I doubt performance will change. I'm an HTC fanboy myself and always installed custom ROMs on all my HTCs and I have to say that this is in my opinion the most stable I tried. I don't know whay I waited so long to flash a custom ROM; maybe I'm getting old hehe

I too tried the Bad boyz ROM but with no luck. I factory reset my phone many times and tried all stock firmware from .11, .15, .22 and the newest as well. The lag won't go away. Cannot take videos at all because the camera wont keep up. Cannot play video, too choppy and keyboard is slow for texts, etc. I went back to s-on and locked with all factory stock. I bought the protection plan and am going to send the phone in for repair. I hope I just got a lemon. It was fine for 2 months before getting progressively worse.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it was just a defective unit. Still very pleased at the moment with the 2.0 ROM. Overall the phone feels more cold during regular usage (haven't done any intense gaming yet). For keyboard I didn't like the TouchPal as I found it kinda buggy so I switched to SwiftKey. Also the video runs fine here. I had for some years problems with Whatsapp media lagging and even FC a lot when opening pics and videos thinking that it was an Android related problem, but apparently it turned out to be a problem on my part. I always backed up every chat and restored with every Android new phone so even when emptied media folders the problem continued. Installed without restoring chats and the problem apparently is solved. Still need to keep testing to see if any other issue arises but at the moment still works fine. Will keep testing the ROM

That is interesting. I am guilty of transferring a lot of messages. But in the end I would do a factory reset, no sd card and basic setup with no message restoration. I could tell right away if I had the same problem by opening up the camera and moving the phone around. The picture would not keep up with the phone moving. it would take a second or 2 for the phone to react to the new picture i was pointing at. Normally as you pan the camera around the picture changes with the movement. Hope yours continues to perform well
