Are you connected via WiFi to your own internet gateway at home, or are you connected via GPRS?
via GPRS/EDGE
Try an alternative smtp server for your outgoing mail and see if that makes a difference.
does anyone know any alternative smtp server for aol? Im currently using smtp.aol.com thanks in advance
anyone? please help...cant send emails for a week now.
bump..i've seen a few people lost on howard forums that this has been an issue with aol smtp servers...can anyone confirm this?
i'm having the same problem with sending emails
I'm having the same problem - In fact, I have the same problem when using WiFi on my home network, while my home computer using Outlook (with the same settings) running on the SAME WiFi network connects to AOL's SMTP just fine.
I'm stumped.
Hi
This always used to work, but now it fails. When I use the send/recieve mail option it just says 'Connecting' for eons then displays a message saying that it couldn't connect. Looking at the mailserver logs, no connection attempt was made.
IMAP to the same server works, but IMAP is really slow on the universal
Anyone know if T-Mobile is messing about with Port Blocking etc - blocking POP3 port would be pretty damned stupid on their part, but who knows...

Hi all,
I am playing/working with my nice HD which is mounting the italian ROM 1.13.... and from yesterday I am facing a syncronization error when trying to download the email using pocket outlook.
Simply when I do send/receive there is immediately an error message at the bottom saying "syncronization error" and then the popup on top shows up saying "please check the setting"...
BUT the internet GPRS connection works just fine: when launching OPERA the HD connects via gprs and I can surf normally. The problem just exists with Pocket Outlook.
If I am connected via WiFi then PocketOutlook works fine and downloads the emails without problems...
I have tried to delete and create again both the GPRS connection and the email account, but this error has not changed.
any idea how to fix this?
thanks!

Hi all,
problem solved! don't know how but the system automatically put some wrong proxy settings...
cheers!
I am currently using an IMAP4 mail server through my ISP, Virgin Media for my mail on my PC (Outlook) and attempted to set up the connection for it on my phone.
As an old Blueyonder customer i have been following the Blueyonder Mail setup guide on the Virgin Media email website but it does not appear to be liking me.
Every time I attempt to collect my emails it tells me "Error Synchonising" and a popup appears "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings." This appears over my 3G connection.
When hooked up via USB to my PC then it works fine.
Also, another issue seems to be that I am unable to find the 'Domain' required to set up a Push event.
Could anyone assist me and suggest where I might be going wrong?
It started when I noticed that the GMail app on the phone can only receive all the emails every morning when I reboot the phone. So I destroyed the connection and tried to recreate. Bad move, I have not been able to connect since.
Everytime I keyed in the credentials to sign-in, when creating a sync account, it will spin for a few minutes before saying that it cannot establish a connection to the server. This has happened for a week already and regardless if I am using data or wifi.
Anyone can help?
make sure the ports are right 993 and 465
if you have trouble with imap, then use pop as the last alternative.
if you have the Exchange program installed, you can use gmail as an exchange server as well.

I can connect to Gmail using imap. But when I try to create a sync account, it always fails to establish a connection. Not sure if there's any connection but this seems to happen only after I have rooted the phone.
Im having the same issue with stock gmail app. Of course tmo was no help. Gmail will not sync, just spins the sync icon over n over and makes the phone hot.
