Best file explorer program? - HD2 General

What file explorer does everyone use? I use Resco but just wondered if there was a more slicker looking one out there?

i use gsfinder, not the best looking but most functional and free

I use total commander, once again not great looking, but it is free and it is fast, also has a registry edit facitility

i like resco explorer 2010 the best IMO
but its for pay
after that total commander

File Explorer - For its ability to send via Bluetooth
GS Finder - Because it's touch friendly for general cut/copy/paste
Total Commander - For its registry editor
Yes I do use all three, every day

Yeah as in >File>Send To>Send via IR. - Doesn't work for me
I used GS Finder all the time on my Polaris and Diamond, but it just sticks in "searching" on the HD2, I assumed the HD2's different BT stack was the problem, unless it's my laptop's Linux BT.
Maybe I should boot XP to try it. Now then - where's my inhaler

Going off topic here. I assume this is the HD2's problem. All the .exes I have to toggle the bluetooth don't work with the HD2, they do nothing.

+1 for Resco Explorer. It's not free, but it's worth it.

i like resco explorer one of the best finger friendly file explorer out there although you have to pay for it but its worth it .. and before i used resco explorer i used file extension which pretty much just gave some additional options to the original explorer

Resco please,it looks good and is finger friendly. Plus Resco photo maneger (latest ver) is quiet nice.

To lazy to go to freewareppc.com and type in their names? Probably would work on google.com to. Yes I verified both were findable.

windows File explorer with fexploreext
and totalcommander for registry editing

total commander for me

Totaly Total Commander. File explorer, Registry editor, FTP browser all in one. What more could you ask for. You want it to be free? Oh okay. It's that too.

PHM Registry Editor
I found one app easy to use. No installation needed, It's an exe file.
Task Manager from fdcsoft.
As it's name shows, reg editing was not it's original purpose, but it does it simply, directly on your pocket pc.
I've used it on my HTC Touch Cruise.
Hope it will help you like it did for me.
Simply type fdcsoft in google to get it !
Personally i use CERegEditor, tried some of the others and this was the best for me

Any way to 'network' X1 and desktop PC?

Is there any way to add my X1 to my home network so i can browse and open files on my desktop and laptop?

How about you just install the software that comes with the phone (ActiveSync).... Works perfectly for me, and I can drag&drop.

I think he'd like to use his wifi
maybe he wanna use wireless
Resco works great over wifi, but it can be a little slow on first-connect.
its very easy to browse network files using total commander which is freeware.
open it go to \\plugins (or type \\\ in the addressbar) then select LAN and follow through the options pretty straight forward
you can also enable the network folder through any file browser, but i can never remember the correct reg entry for it as i tend to enable it using sktools
try the htc network cab works great
Resco works geat cheers guys!
just the normal explorer, type plugins and then lan followed by the name of your pc. no problem so far with this since 2 ppcs.

Networking on the X1i

I'm wondering if there's any program that allows me to "browse" the network I connect to with WIFI. I've been trying to use Total Commander mobile for it, but there doesn't seem to be any support. As I use quite a big home network including NAS and servers it would be nice to be able to access them through my PDAphone. I'm using a workgroup at home. Who can point me in the right direction?
Edit: A small addition; I have searched the forum for more information and - although it has been mentioned - there's not much information to find. The only thing I did find is that Total Commander *should* be able to do it, in which case someone has to teach me how ^^
I prefer resco explorer, it works pretty well, it also has ftp plugin available
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/indepth.asp#network
fwiw if you want a whole heap of decent software for very cheap become a plus member at modaco, paul has a deal with plenty of software houses that allow him to give software such as resco explorer to his plus members..
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=announce&f=304&id=2
It's worth it for resco explorer, flexmail, sprite backup and pocket informant alone..

For Resco explorer, you don't need the FTP plugin if yr NAS support windows networking. You can search by workgroup or simply connect by IP address
yep indeed, I was highlighting the ftp plugin as it's the best I've found on winmo. ;P
Alright, I will try resco then and let you know how it turns out.

What Registry and File Editor to use on the HTC HD2

Hi there,
sorry to ask this simple question to you pros here, but can someone please post a link on what Registry and File Editor to use on the HTC HD2?
Thanks in advance
Cheers
I have Soti Pocket Controller, so I use the one that's included with that. It's a lot easier to do it from a PC screen and you're less likely to make any mistakes.
Thanks for the swift reply, so you are not using some software on the device itself but on the PC.
Are you using this version: http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=PCPro
?
Cheers
P.S. If I wanted to use soemthing on the device itself, what do you recommend?
I love Resco Explorer, it is a very very good file manager and has an equally good registy editor included.
otherwise, the free total commander does a good job, too, but is not really finger friendly.

I think the best is Resco Explorer and Resco Registry...

I have Resco Explorer which apparently has a good Registry editor, but I've never used it TBH. I'm sure other guys here are better placed to recommend a good registry editor to use directly on the phone.

I used 2008 and now for testing 2010. Both works good
File explorer
What sort of files are you planning on editing?
As a file explorer, I found a very useful extension called fexploreext which is not a swiss army knife, but a single blade pocket knife. Very useful, and simple.
For the registry, I use a desktop editor called CeRegEditor free from from mdsoft.pl
On the device, PHM is good.

Yes that's the one. Without wishing to sidetrack thsi thread I use Pocket Controller to type long messages, texts or emails on my phone using my PC or laptop. It's much easier & quicker than typing directly on the phone and with the HD there's absolutely no lag.
I am using Resco Explorer 2010 (BETA) and love it. The interface isn't any different from previous version, which is fine as they had a touch interface that worked perfectly on HD2 already.

Hi there,
I was looking into modding my HD2 with the Mods featured on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Thus I assumed I will need both programs, right?
Cheers and thanks all for your replies!
I would like to try Total Commander 2.52 beta, but cant figure out which cab to download, do i need all 4? Please help a nOOb...
http://tcce.s3.amazonaws.com/b2/cabs.htm
Got it (arm.cab), just had to read...hehe
Even bigger noob question - what do I do with the above arm.cab file? Step by step instructions would be v handy

Find where you have saved the cab file using file manager and tap on the cab to install. Let it install and then it should then appear in your start menu. Cabs are to windows mobile what setup.exe is to desktop windows.
Many thanks Wizzzard. So far so good. I'm guessing that most .CAB's should be installed on the device and not on the Storage card? I've just installed Total Commander and now just need to figure out how it works etc and start looking in the Hints and Tips section.

Same here. However, I also have the freeware 'PHM Regedit' installed on my HD2 for emergency alterations when on the move. It works quite well with fingers.
As for file editors you simply cannot beat Resco Explorer. It's the best file explorer/editor on Windows Mobile but unfortunately isn't free.
For anyone not using activesync and wanting to try the resco 2010 beta, you can just open the installer with winrar and itll show u the cabs, copy to phone and install.
9/10, nice, but i expected more change since previous resco explorer & plugins, then again its still beta so more change may come

Registry editor for HDMINI

I need registry editor compatible with HDMINI, please help me
Hi, I am no expert and maybe there are better apps- but this one is free and it does the job for me. Hope this helps
http://phm-regedit.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
Total commander
http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Use the beta version for WM 6.5
Resco Explorer 2010 . The best!
I use Schap's Registry Editor. Free, simple and light, you don't need a 3mb software with fancy graphics to edit the registry
If you are happy doing it from your PC then CeRegeditor does it for me.
