Any way to 'network' X1 and desktop PC? - XPERIA X1 General

Is there any way to add my X1 to my home network so i can browse and open files on my desktop and laptop?

Resco Explorer
Hi
I use resco explorer for this...
Nigel

How about you just install the software that comes with the phone (ActiveSync).... Works perfectly for me, and I can drag&drop.

I think he'd like to use his wifi

maybe he wanna use wireless

Resco works great over wifi, but it can be a little slow on first-connect.

its very easy to browse network files using total commander which is freeware.
open it go to \\plugins (or type \\\ in the addressbar) then select LAN and follow through the options pretty straight forward
you can also enable the network folder through any file browser, but i can never remember the correct reg entry for it as i tend to enable it using sktools

try the htc network cab works great

Resco works geat cheers guys!

just the normal explorer, type plugins and then lan followed by the name of your pc. no problem so far with this since 2 ppcs.

Files to Phone-iphone style via ORB

If someone could help please. I have used the google search on this site and just google itself to no avial. Here is what I am looking for.
On my friends iphone he has a process by which he can access his home computer as long as it is online and gain file access to every folder in the pc. Kind of like ORB but it is a phone based application. He can then open those folders and download any content to the phone. Basically, it is a remote desktop type file search with out all the other unnecessary desktop controls.
I have seen many different possibilities from freeware to paid but non of them seem centered around using finger/thumb control and Over the Air. Programs from Resco, Total Commander, Orb etc....
It would be nice to have a Finger Friendly Application that will access a network like Orb, without having to do so manually through the pocketie, and display corresponding files to the Orb networked Host PC. Basically a stand alone file explorer that is finger friendly to access folders on a host machine OTA. I would not see a need for it to stay connected all the time and keep eating up data. Just more like an initialization that grabs the available folders. Then connect as you search further or download to save on the data. Something not so heavy or clunky. Infact, if Orb would create a PocketPC UI for their program that was thumb friendly that would be great!!! Hint...Tene, A_C etc....LOL!!
I noticed that WinAmp of all programs used Orb to access host files. So, maybe something like that general file access.

-Suggestions So Far - Use Google For More Info
Resco - in conjunction with an FTP setup
Total Commander - in conjunction with an FTP setup
Orb
Soonr.com
RDM+ - http://www.rdmplus.com/rdm/page.jsp?p=index - thx trjons
Mocha's FTP Server - See Post 11 by Ather90
One may work for you but I am still looking for the "perfect" app.
Thanks,
Curious G
SoonR (soonr.com) allows you to do that, not finger friendly though, but, it is a freeware.

Checked it out. Didn't see a downloadable PPC UI to access the network. It didn't seem all that much different then using Orb as it is now. Orb is as it is, is a little friendlier.
Looking for a PPC UI.
I use RDM+ for that.
It opens up a desktop view but you can quickly go into the menu and pull up a file manager which allows for quick upload and download of files.

Ok, answered my on question. RDM=Remote Desktop tool of some kind. Again, this is an option. But I would like to keep these options down to a simple interface as possible.

If there is a UI that uses the Orb network out there that is probably the best.
Thanks,
Curious G

It is a desktop PC application that you install and select folders that you want to access remotely, and then using an internet browser (desktop or pocket) you can access these folders from anywhere.

I understand how Orb works. I use it as it is. But in order to access it from the PPC you have to use PocketIE. Looking for a PocketPC UI not a desktop UI..
Thanks,
Curious G
You could just set up an FTP server on your desktop and then use Resco Explorer or Total Commander to access it.
give Mocha's FTP server a shot..Its a Phone Based App which makes you phone an FTP server and you can acess it Globally

drive mapping on diamond

Hi
i know there is remote desktop on the diamond but how to i map a network drive in file explorer so i dont have to connect vis remote dest top to see the drive????????
There are a few ways of doing it. Total Commander is supposed to do it but I can't get it to work. HTC Network Plugin is working for me, using the build 30468 version posted in this thread.
Map drives using Settings>Connections>Network Plugin, then the mapped drives will appear on your device as folders within a folder called Network.

Networking on the X1i

I'm wondering if there's any program that allows me to "browse" the network I connect to with WIFI. I've been trying to use Total Commander mobile for it, but there doesn't seem to be any support. As I use quite a big home network including NAS and servers it would be nice to be able to access them through my PDAphone. I'm using a workgroup at home. Who can point me in the right direction?
Edit: A small addition; I have searched the forum for more information and - although it has been mentioned - there's not much information to find. The only thing I did find is that Total Commander *should* be able to do it, in which case someone has to teach me how ^^
I prefer resco explorer, it works pretty well, it also has ftp plugin available
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/indepth.asp#network
fwiw if you want a whole heap of decent software for very cheap become a plus member at modaco, paul has a deal with plenty of software houses that allow him to give software such as resco explorer to his plus members..

It's worth it for resco explorer, flexmail, sprite backup and pocket informant alone..

For Resco explorer, you don't need the FTP plugin if yr NAS support windows networking. You can search by workgroup or simply connect by IP address
yep indeed, I was highlighting the ftp plugin as it's the best I've found on winmo. ;P
Alright, I will try resco then and let you know how it turns out.

Best file explorer program?

What file explorer does everyone use? I use Resco but just wondered if there was a more slicker looking one out there?
i use gsfinder, not the best looking but most functional and free
I use total commander, once again not great looking, but it is free and it is fast, also has a registry edit facitility
i like resco explorer 2010 the best IMO
but its for pay
after that total commander
File Explorer - For its ability to send via Bluetooth
GS Finder - Because it's touch friendly for general cut/copy/paste
Total Commander - For its registry editor
Yes I do use all three, every day

Yeah as in >File>Send To>Send via IR. - Doesn't work for me
I used GS Finder all the time on my Polaris and Diamond, but it just sticks in "searching" on the HD2, I assumed the HD2's different BT stack was the problem, unless it's my laptop's Linux BT.
Maybe I should boot XP to try it. Now then - where's my inhaler

Going off topic here. I assume this is the HD2's problem. All the .exes I have to toggle the bluetooth don't work with the HD2, they do nothing.
+1 for Resco Explorer. It's not free, but it's worth it.

To lazy to go to freewareppc.com and type in their names? Probably would work on google.com to. Yes I verified both were findable.
windows File explorer with fexploreext
and totalcommander for registry editing
total commander for me
Totaly Total Commander. File explorer, Registry editor, FTP browser all in one. What more could you ask for. You want it to be free? Oh okay. It's that too.

It is light, can create and send shortcuts to pgm folder, shows hidden files and integrates with file explorer.

Network storage APP

Is there an app for my HD2 that will allow me to browse a shared folder on my PC via wifi? I have a Shared folder on my network that all of my computers and XBOX360 get videos and music from, I am looking for an app that will allow my HD2 to access those files. I'm running the energy ROM.
the HTC Network Plugin , just search for it, works fine on my HD2 , lets you map a network folder ..
Give it a search ...
Resco File explorer will work as well. I haven't been completely happy with it though and will give the above mentioned HTC solution a try. My problem with Resco could be my network though so don't shy away from trying it.
