it looks good and ty for finding something for me, but i'm running a very customised ROM with SPB shell and some features of touchexperience and therefore do NOT have:
- HTC Application Service 1.14.1.0 or newer,
- Comm Manager 2.9.11.0 or newer.
so this app wont work for me...
i KNOW there is a registry tweak, seeing as i used it about 6 months ago...i just cant remember it...
any1 else?
Not sure if setting HKLM\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms\ HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended =>0 would work but its got to be one of those keys in there....
Also, doesn't playing with the WiFi power management settings for best battery turn it off in standby?
Sorry, I really haven't messed with WiFi settings very much.
thanks Bruce. that's close but that just keeps wifi active when the device is ...well unattended.
more ideas ppl!

I had a little search around and couldn't find answers to this lot, so I thought I'd gather my questions here.
1) I'm running the 2.16.9.1 WWE I-Mate ROM and have installed Total Commander. What is safe to get shot of from the extended ROM and what really really isn't?
2) I've installed Morphgear in an attempt to make my long commute fly by, but where has it gone? I've definitely installed it (twice), but can't find any link or reference to it on my device. Where am I likely to find it/what have I done wrong?
3) How do I know if 802.11g is working? My wireless router pumps out a b/g mix and gets tetchy if I try changing things (to the point of not allowing anything to connect and needing a full reinstall). Is there any clue my Wizard can give me to tell me that 802.11g is working?
4) How the hell do I turn off the menu click sounds without turning off the device volume? It's driving me nuts! I've switched off the screen tap click, but can't turn off the menu clicks. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Have you got Wisbar Avanced installed perhaps? If so, turn off 'use sounds that comes with the current theme'
Thats the only thing i can think of now (don't have time to sort out the exact solution for you now)
Thanks.
I've actually just this minute found a solution here.
Nice one!
5) How can I free up some RAM? I'v got nothing running (only the OS) and only have 25.86mb free. Out of a claimed 64mb, that's rather pathetic.
Any ideas?

lol,
good question
the buggy Os makes it hang.
a Rom upgrade should solve the problem.

however, i updated to the latest rom already. how is it? does RAM affect?
T300,
There are lots of things that can make your pda hang, probably too many to go into. I will try and give you the principal areas you need to address, which come from my own experience coupled to tons of reading on here.
1) Activesync - This has a habit of running all the time and is a prime cause of lockups. Use the fake server solution to solve that problem (search on here for it using google search. I will give you the google search link in a minute).
2) Software incompatibilities - You need to make absolutely sure that if you are running WM6, your apps are the latest version capable of running under WM6. I have had a lot of problems trying to run WM5 apps under WM6.
3) Battery and power locks - Make sure that all system locks are disabled. For example you can set your system to turn of the LCD screen or power of after a period of time. Make sure all of these are inactive/not set. If you want to turn your screen off then lighty touch your power switch and it will do the job for you. Touch it again and your pda springs into life; simple. You can use the device lock option on the today screen if you need to lock your screen with the pda on; no problems with this option.
4) Programmes running in the background - I strongly suggest that you set your pda to completely close down any programmes after you have run them, rather than minimise. Use the task manager option to sort this out or install the htc x-button app (search on here for that also).
5) Beams and Wifi - Make sure these are turned off unless you need to use them. Switch them off as soon as you have finished with them. Benefits are improved battery life and less freezes.
6) Inappropriate themes - Not all themes work happily with WM6. Some do lock up your machine. Keep it simple; load a standard WM6 theme that you know works and leave it at that.
There's more, but this should give you something to work on. I will add to this post as I remember other things.
Let us know how you get on. Google search for XA is:

Morning all.
just thought I'd share the above with you. Been 37 hours since I charged my phone and my batery is saying 74%. I've sent maybe 50 texts, had 20 mins of phone calls, push email for about 12 hours and bluetooth about 12 hours.
The secret, is to only turn on things you need when you need them!!
I'm using PhoneAlarm to change the status of my phone depending on where I am/what I'm doing.
it's unlikely that anyone is going to phone me at 3 in the morning or send me a text (I prefer not to be woken up) so at midnight my phone goes into flight mode, and turns back on at 6.30. I don't turn the phone off as then the alarm doesn't sounds. I don't need push email when I'm at work so between 8am and 5.30 pm, push email is disabled. Also I don't need bluetooth when I'm at work (I only use BT to connect to my car)...and so on .
I can easily turn the various functions back on with a button here and there, but the batery life I'm getting far outweighs any inconvenience of having to hit a button to turn things on or off.
Just be in touch that the battery drains faster at the end than at the beginning... so i don't think you would have 37 hours -- 3/4 so you could stay 37 x 4 = 148 hours with your phone...
But i agree... the battery is cool !! I don't even imagine with a good extended battery to 2500 mAh !
Ciao
Fred
I agree it does drain faster towards the end, but still...3 days battery life is more than acceptable.
That's pretty good! The best i got was 59% after 1.5 days.. then it less than 10 hours later i was up to 10%.
Battery life is dreadful.

I've been using HTC products for a long time. Surprisingly HTC HD has the best battery.
Yet another useless topic, lots of topics about the HD battery, please use them instead of opening more topics, that would make this forum easy to search.

Wow, is that HD running on Kryptonite???
I would love to get a battery that lasts 48 hours
Maybe a stupid question, but how do you manage that the phone switches to flightmode on a fixed time?
Not useless - Add to Tips and Tricks List
I was unaware of this approach for turning various services on and off and to me it makes a lot of sense. I'm not sure I would have seen it if it had been buried in another post... I would recommend this get added to the Tips and Tricks list as its a real winner!

Is this a free program? It sounds like a good idea for me too... turn WiFi and Bluetooth off during the day Mon-Fri and during the night!
Bound to save a bit of power, and then I could hopefully charge every 2 days instead of every night!
Try using http://www.sbsh.net/products/windows_mobile_pocket_pc/phoneweaver.
It's not free but works great and has also large buttons to toggle bluetooth and wireless.
just tried phonealarm too, but somehow it will not switch profile on fixed times?
are you running it with TF3D? if so how do i enable it
also with the default skin pressing the wireless button activates bluetooth and not wireless.
Yeah i tried PA too and it don't switches alarms on time too - how did you set it up ? Also the location in extras dont work - did you get it up and running ?
I use the bugger too much to get anything over a day and a half.

PA won't work with Manila, it only works if the TodayPlugin is running.
For a better solution try SPB PhoneSuite.
http://beta.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/phonesuite/
Runs as service and works fine under manila.
As I said earlier try using http://www.sbsh.net/products/windows...pc/phoneweaver.

There are 2 options to get Phone Alram to work with Touch Flo
Option 1
Install phone alarm
Deselect Manila from the Today screen and select phone alarm
Phone alarm will now be displayed on the home screen. Go into phone laram settings, click advanced and select touch flo support.
Touch flo / today screen can now be toggled from the left soft key.
Option 2
Install SecondToday (free) to give you 2 "Today screens"
I have used option 2, but have recently changed to option 1. Both work great.
Phoneweaver is ok, but the functionality of Phone Alarm is far superior - guess it depends what you want it to do.

both options keep phonealarm running and working while TouchFlo is enabled?
Hi. Im kinda new at this so sorry for my newb-ness. lol. I have searched and havent really been able to find much that will help me here..
I Have been overclocking my device, and it works great! Im trying to find an APP that will actually continuously overclock on startup and after the screen has been turned on and off (tap the power button). I like to keep the screen off whenever possible because it really conserves that battery and serves as a keypad lock as well.
Also, when i turn the screen off it kills my wifi connection.
Say i am streaming a radio station or whatever or on aim.. when im not using it i want to be able to turn the screen off without losing wifi connection.
Anybody know what to do?
For overclocking you can use Mikokong's OmapclockKeep. You can find it here & you can find instructions here.
I haven't find any program for the WiFi issue. The only way that I know is to prevent your device from going on standby. There are some applications that can do that but they are no use for me. I prefer to do it manually .
I hope I have helped.-
bumpppp
still looking fro a fix for the wifi issue...

Yeah ive been using the Advanced Task Killer for a while now already.
I have read that usage of ATK is not required at all because of Androids near perfect RAM Management. And you also could come into trouble because android looses a small amount of ram capacity every time you use ATK untill the next reboot.
other than that you could try Juice Plotter and Juice Defender
find a app can auto turn on/off fly mode.
I ve tried Juicy defender, it seems not fit wildfire very well, some function not working. like auto fly mode, and auto turn off wifi when over 50M.
(btw,it will change your apn setting, cause me can not connect after uninstall it.)
after 1 month, I found navigation app take me 80% of battery.like google map/navi.

Not sure if these steps actually improve the efficency of the battery OR wheter the S/W behind the battery guage becomes more accurate as it goes through a process that alows it to better estimate the SOC of the battery.

Yup, even I have read a lot that Android manages the apps in a beautiful way. When I first used Android, the first question that came to my mind was how to exit apps as none of the apps had an exit button. Coming from nokia, sony erricson etc this was an obvious question to ask. Then after some research I found that Android just freezes the apps when we go back. The app is not actually running in the back end.
But anyway, yesterday my battery again went to 8% and on checking the used status, it showed that the android system used 92% of the battery lol.
One more thing I would like to suggest is that there is a Power control widget built in the wildfire. Its pretty useful to decrease the brightness, turn off gps, wifi etc from the home screen itself.

Thanks for this!
I installed this widget and it said that GPS was on even though it wasn't appearing in the tool bar along the top. I had run several apps that use GPS, but had assumed if the GPS icon was gone, GPS was off.
Is that wrong?
(good news if it is, as I was struggling to keep enough power to in my phone to get through the day without charging)

Avoid task killers like the plague. They cause more problems than they solve. Trust the android os to manage ram.
Just discovered the most powerful app I have ever seen called "Tasker". It its only £4, but will make your android so much more diverse. You can, for example, have it go into airplane mode between certain times (i have between midnight and 6am) but periodically check for sms or voice mail every hour. It saves stacks of battery.
I have it turning wifi on only when it knows I'm at home or at work.
I have it turning off wifi, dropping screen brightness down, and playing a louder notification when battery gets to 15%.
It silences my phone when I get within 100m of the two cinemas I use.
It is not the most easy app to use, be patient with it. Look up some of the "recipes" on the internet to get a good tutorial on how to work it. £4 is a steal for something so potentially vast. Its limited only by your imagination.
Oh and having run Tasker for 24 hours, (how long my battery normally lasts) only contributes to a 2% drain, and its adding roughly 6 to 8 hours extra! It would cost you ten times that for an extended battery!
I use an free app called timeriffic to auto disable WiFi
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Try program JuiceDefender....you can download free from Android market.
my battery life is really awful too,i noticed it a couple days ago, that it drains to fast,so i started looking into it,and i found out, that my device won't go too sleep. so in settings/about phone/battery the awake time and up time are the same. i had similar problems on my hero, but there it was the messaging apps fault.
here, i kill everything with advanced task killer,it still can't go too sleep, android battery use shows, that android system is using most of the battery.
anybody else with similar problem?solutions? i have stock 1.25 rom rooted with unrevoked.
What? You mean your screen is permanently on? .....
Ive head bad things about using task killers too, I dont use on anymore.
Some things i have done that have helped my battery like quit alot actually is turn off Wi-Fi, Turm off GPS, Turned off haptic feedback(vibration when pressing buttons), Screen brightness to automatic & screen timeout too 15 seconds.
I can now have a really good fiddle with the phone and it can last more than a day without needing a charge.
As I understand when screen goes auto shut off, all apps are idle, even WiFi or gps is on. I tried with music on continuously for 2 hrs in flight mode, I still have about 80% power. With gps on for 1 hr continuous, I still have about 80%. With normal use my power can last the whole day.

no,the screen turns off,but something still runs in the background what eats the battery, and I can't find out what it is. I tried multiple task managers, and they show that everything is closed.i have it in flight mode, with everything turned off, still something runs, what shouldn't.
Did you solve this? It's happening on my phone now, and it's very frustrating.
(just installed ATK - very scary the apps I never use are running) and killed everything except ATK. Touch the power switch to turn off the screen. 15 minutes later, up time and awake time are still the same.

2 updates from me, to help anyone else with similar problems:
1) I uninstalled any recently installed or updated apps** and widgets now I have a 1:6 ratio of awake time. So, fixed?
2) In the meantime I logged a call to HTC via their website. Answer:
With regards to your problem, if the battery is going down significantly and you have turned of applications when your not using them and used task killer. It might be better to call us up so we cann look into it further and we might have to book the phone in for repair especially if you have noticed it not charging properly or overheating at any time.

Yup, those problems started occurring at the same time as the other, so it looks like I have an underlying hardware fault. Dammit! I don't want to be without my phone for 2 weeks.

If you are asking me, the answer is "about 6 hours".
I've (partially) fixed my uptime = awaketime problem. But I obviously have some more serious battery issue.
Hopefully someone else can chime in with happy battery life.
