Rally the troops - G1 General

I've sent an email to Htc before and got a prompt reply,
We all want a g2. Let's voice why/give demand for it in this thread.
Passively of course and not violently lol but what would we all want to see in a g2? And let's get a lot of demand into this thread then we'll email them with a link. If there's lots of pull for it they're likely to make it. IMO

i would LOOOOOVVVVE to see (of course) a faster processor maybe? like 7-whatever MHz to 1 GHz, and also a larger screen... OH and not to be pushy, but, i think i speak for everyone when i say, I WANT 2.1!!!! thanks

G2 overclock competition

As of late I haven't really heard any more news of significant clock speed gains from other higher end phones such as the Droid X/2 or the SGS phones.
From what ive read the X/2 overclocks were overinflated fibs and the OC method used in the SGS phones overstated their true clock speeds. Anything that I have missed?
I watched a competition like this once...
It was done at a dyno shop amongst members from a Nissan car club.
It was all fun and games until someone exploded their 1000hp Skyline engine.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA....

Ahhh, the beauty of trying to sound witty on a forum.
One would never assume the OP graduated with an associate degree in automotive technology in early 09'. Now that I've stepped out of my realm of expertise into this forum and asked a simple question (at least it's not in the dev forum) I would like some serious input if that's alright. Just proud of my phone that's all.
BTW, the correct terminology is detonated, not exploded and it can be caused by any number of issues...my money is on either a boost spike or lifted head.
Seriously not trying to be an ass here, the g2 has gotten some press over this issue lately and its legit unlike the other phones.
Thanks dude.

not that i am against overclocking(this is the first phone i overclocked and i set it to 1 gig) but other than "because i can" why do we need it faster than 1.9? sometimes i like to put my phone to my face to talk on it and i would like to keep from needing skin grafts. do any of our apps really NEED anything more than maybe 1.2?
psx4droid runs great at the higher speeds as long as you keep an eye on the cpu and battery temps. I have the 1800mhz Zimage on my phone right now but I keep it restricted to 1000mhz via setcpu.
Really I see it as about pushing the boundaries for the sake of knowledge, if I could compile my own personal kernel I would but being on the verge of going to pharmacy school and work both keep me too busy to learn how.
This thread isn't really about why one would do it, it was just simply asking how the g2 is fairing against other higher end phones.
I'd love to see something like this as well. Sooner or later, we're going have to start installing heatsinks on to our phones.

man, i like your style!
this is a great idea.. but: plates must be very close to eachother, and it's unuseful if the plates are close to other parts themeselves; don't exceed with the paste: it must be a small quantity that, pressed, it expands itself close the the edges of the component
if it doesn't work, you can clean the paste with some alcool, using a cotton-fioc ( you know, these little cotton-sticks you can use to clean your ears )

[Q][Sarcasm] NOT another useless thread..ok it is.

Without a doubt the Epic 4g is definitely the most impressive piece of hand-held hardware I have owned to date. I am a long time HTC user and I can promise I will [probably] never go back. There is no other phone on the market that I would rather have for the uses that I use it for. I made my decision wisely after a lot of research. So with that being said, why in the world is so many people so up in arms and worked up over not getting a 2.2 update? Do you really need flash that bad on your phone? If you're spending that much time using flash sites then why not man up and buy yourself a decent netbook? Seriously I don't understand. The only reason I have ever been upset that I didn't have flash was when I was unable to masturbate to my normal free porn site, and instead had to find a mobile version. An inconvenience, yes, but not to the extreme that I cursed samsung. Besides it's much better to have two hands free (for some of us anyway).
So what is it? You want to brag to the girls at the bar that your Epic can do more mflops than a Amsterdam prostitute? Someone please enlighten me here. My experience with 2.1 has been super smooth, responsive, and no app I can throw at will slow it down. In real world use what is the benefit of 2.2? Oh yeah it would be nice to have the new gmail app with the return/forward at the top instead of the bottom, true, but what else?
If you weren't tied to your phone's benchmark like it was the size of your peni$, what seriously is the Epic 2.1 lacking that a 2.2 update would fix?
edit: Keep an eye out for my new rom: Better than froyo. Completely Stock with madthumbs mobile bookmark baked in.

I wondered the same thing for a long time. If you need flash so bad then download the adobe flash app.
Now most of us are on the leaked froyo I'm seeing crap about gingerbread. What's so special about that is what I really wanna know.
I get mad lag on my stock 2.1 phone. This is my second Epic since launch and both lagged after about 12 hours of uptime.
I brought this phone in to Sprint and of course it decides to be all snappy for them. >:-| So my only hope is for the better task management FroYo offers will remedy the lag. That said, sure the lack of an update sucks, but I'm not sweating it.

Fine, but seriously... lack of 2.2 is not what kills it for me on this phone... it's the damn screen that's calibrated like ass. Being a photographer, I just have to ask myself... who the f wants to stare at a screen that calibrated to a very cool temp?
2.2 won't help you there, but this will: http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...-universal-version-takes-aim-at-more-phones/#

Hmmm.... wonder if any Devs know if theres a way to adjust more advanced settings than RGB... thats great, but It would be nice to be able to ISF calibrate this thing, it does have amazing image potential. May even be able to set up profiles for outside, movie, the retarded 'sports' one, oh wait, think its on that... Set up to work well with the lighting at a Sprint store I would assume...
I'd like to be able to use the audio-out function of the expensive factory dock I bought. I'd also appreciate full voice command support.
There is more to Flash than just websites and video. Froyo also gives you the ability to run Adobe Air applications as well as run Flash content. I already have two Air apps that I've been working on that I will be putting on the market once I've got 2.2 on my Epic and can test them myself.
Not to mention that Google has been updating their core apps and some will now require 2.2. I, for one, don't relish the fact that a phone I bought 2 months ago can't run the latest apps.
And please don't tell me to install a custom ROM. I'm new to Android and this is my primary communication device for personal and business use. I'm not really ready to risk screwing it up just yet.

General usage query - is the wildfire any good?

Hi folks.
My gf had been offered a wildfire as an option for a work phone and she asked me if it's worth getting. This will be her first step outside the Nokia candy bar phone world.
Using a desire myself I cannot seem to offer any help as I have no idea how the lighter specs on the wildfire effect the whole android/sense experience. Web reviews tend to state that it's good for the price, whatever that means, or that it's slower and lower res than phones costing twice as much - not a fair comparison.
So, if you're just after a phone to text, call, email, calendar, gps navigate, occasionally jump on the web and tether to a laptop does the wildfire stack up?
Any guidance from users (esp those who've made a similar jump) would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Nitens.

I think it will stack up pretty good, I am certainly happy with mine. As long as you don't want mobile gaming the Wildfire is a very nice phone.
Excuse me if I am off-topic, but I think it's no good opening a new thread.
My daily usage is similar to the OP. One question about playing video on wildfire.
If I convert some with reasonable resolution e.g. 240x320, will it play without any lag?
Also, with the wildfire specs, will it be the problem with future releases of android?
I didn't mean in the official way, but ability to messing with roms e.g. CM7 will be good.
(just need opinions)
Thanks in advance.
I did the same jump!
I am very pleased with the opportunities the Wildfire gives me.
I came from using traditional phones as nokia 6230 (Yeah old phone). I used it on stock rom for 4 months, which was good enough for the things you mention, but then i finished my exams and wanted to play with the phone. Now i am on cyanogenmod, since i wanted the extra performance so i could play games and nerd around with it.
I would say she should go for it.
Hope my post can help her to make the decision.

240x320 videos should play nice on the Wildfire, but, do check the format first.
Secondly, so far, the future roadmap of Android is not known. Gingerbread is out (Which will come on the Wildfire, courtesy CM7). The next known Android version is Honeycomb (3.0), which is optimized for tablets, and, will definitely not work on the wildfire due to its high system requirements (High Res Screen, 1GHz CPU, 512 MB RAM).
After Honeycomb, the next version for the smartphone devices is still not known, as stated above (Its probably named Ice Cream), and hence, speculating it at this point of time whether it will work on the wildfire or not is no good.

Yes, video plays fine. You want a H.264 video stream (Baseline Profile, Level 1.3) in a MP4 container.

Been stuck at 1.1 for a while...

It's beginning to look like this phone won't go any higher than 1.1 Ghz for OC. Kind of disheartening..
Are there any other phones that have had similar barriers that could perhaps give some insight on to how our 1.1 barrier can be passed? I'm by no means a dev, but that doesn't mean I can't organize an effort! Perhaps a bounty is in order for this?

I think it would be best to just wait until the devs work on it instead of creating pointless posts like this one...
They have enough work on their hands with cm7 and right now is another 100mhz x 2 really going to make a diff at this point?? I personally would rather see a stable cm then worry about that. Yeah you're post isn't contributing well to this apparently poor community either. Like I said, if you haven't anything productive to say, gtfo. There's more to be done than to just wait for devs to magically do it. Us lowly non devs can still look into what can be done. What do you suggest we do in these forums if not to promote discussion of enhancements to our phone?
The point of this thread is to sort of take the pressure off the devs to figure it all out on their own.
If you're gonna wastes everyones time, we'd like you to kindly take your whining back to the aria forum or something..

Whining stops now.
If you want to discuss getting a bounty together for overclocking beyond 1.1Ghz, by all means continue to do so.
Otherwise, this thread will be closed.
Heh hopefully if a mod says what I've been harping this whole time it sticks. Well, anyone think a bounty for this is worth it? Honestly, other dual core phones are almost to 2.0. If we're fast at 1.1 can you imagine more? I'm never content with where I'm at so I say we get this phone as high as it can.
That being said, one concern is that anything higher than 1.1 is physically impossible no matter how you cut it. Like I said other dual cores are oc'd high, but who knows how this thing is different!
The real question before bounty talks can be made is: can we determine if its possible? Were other phones in this situation?
I remember when faux initially discussed it, he made it sound like it was some simple code holding it back but I dunno really..
Sent from my Motorola Atrix using the Premium XDA App
In my coding experience(I do it for fun here and there) if it were simple code it probably could've been replaced by now unless it were hardware dependent... which it shouldnt be because there are other Tegra 2 phones well past 1.1ghz... which sorta just leaves me in a conundrum...
I was hoping this would be fixed in cm7 because it uses a different kernal and whatnot so we'd find a work around... but I guess not yet
It would probably help me to pm someone like faux or knoll who have worked with it first hand though.
Anyways lets hope for a breakthrough soon to show everyone else how much better our phones are from theirs

Those are good points. And yeah I probably worded that wrong, with the "simple line of code" thing, because now that you mention it that sounds TOO simple lol. I can't really remember what he said, but at the time it seemed less serious, as in 'the next version of my kernel would bypass it', ya know what I mean? But now here we are, still at 1.1. However, at the same time, the only guy really working on getting higher than 1.1 had halted his kernel progress to work on CM7, so I dunno. Perhaps a bounty would be good to get more devs in to take a look at it and see what to do.
And yeah it's a little reassuring to know that the Xoom did it, with essentially the same processor. Does anyone know if it had the same type of roadblock associated with it, where they couldn't OC much higher for a time?
From the little I've heard the xoom was able to oc to 1.5 without any kind of roadblocks(Idk about after that) but I've never rly heard of something like this for android phones from all the tech nerds I know haha... I think starting a bounty would be a good idea(and Id totally donate to something like that) but I also think once cm7 is stable they'll be more devs trying to fix this problem... who knows they might find something out by just tinkering with it on cm7

Yeah I'd be willing to donate as well, of course (a given, as I seem to be worrying about this too much anyways ).
I've wondered if, since faux announced that "barrier", if either him or anyone else has even attempted to look at what causes it. I'm not saying 'those lazy bastards!!!11!' or anything, but if that's the case I'd almost feel better since that explains why it hasn't been done yet. Otherwise, the longer they HAVE looked at it with no avail, the more likely it is we're stuck at 1.1
Maybe tinkering will help...I honestly thought it would help while they developed it in the first place, since like you said earlier, it seems like it's not a hardware thing so a new ROM could have helped...
Someone with coding knowledge should contact whoever made the xoom overclock.

Remember that a phone is essentially a small computer. It's not just the CPU which is involved. Memory timings, voltages, and cooling all play a huge part in OC'ing a CPU. This may be where the problem lies. If the phone requires memory timings which make it extremely unstable/unuseable at an OC higher than 1.1GHz, then it will always be a no go, no matter how you look at it. Similarily, if you have to step up the voltage, you induce more heat, and there is no active cooling in a phone.
In essence, there are many reasons why the OC may have stopped at 1.1GHz. It seems people really need to understand overclocking overall before commenting on what is and is not possible.
There is also the chance that nobody has really looked at this as important because all the work has gone into creating CM7, etc. I would say OC'ing past 1.1GHz is low on the totem pole for the few devs who are capable of doing it.
kholk claims to be releasing a 1.2 kernal today, I believe lt to be for testing to make sure it works but we shall see.

Landing page for HTC evo 4g LTE

So i don't know how long this has been up. I was making a payment tonight and the pre order add scrolled across my browser. Just thought i'd share. I know this is double post.
i have been a loyal OG4G user but i knew the 3D was only a half step. I am getting the E4GL. And know that Our beloved 4G is nearing its capacity. I wanted to share with my OG folks.
Also I would like to Propose the use of the word E4GL for the abbreviation. Thats Eagle for you noobs that don't read leet.

"Eagle". Interesting.
I think we're all already calling it the "LTEvo", though .
Ooohhhhh. I like that LTEvo. Like the way it rolls off the tongue. Hadn't heard it before. (EvoLTE, -like 'eVolt' - is nice, too, though, I think)
And why E4GL? Is eagle it's code name (like 'supersonic') or something?
Thanks for preorder page.

I second that LTEvo sounds great.
Can't wait. Don't know why people are freak'n out about the look. Seriously, this phone is packing extras that the htc one x doesn't have. Bigger Battery, removable sd card, a kickstand.
All I'm worried about is how much is going to cost me to get this phone. I have the EVO 3D now and it will only be a year into my contract by the time the LTevo is out. Does anyone know how this works, need to prep

Anyone else going mad about sprint announcing this like 2 mo in advance?! My god, the wait is killing me. (I remember the same thing for OG Evo, too, though). Every day, looking at pictures you've already looked at 1,000 times, Googling for any new info every few hrs. It feels like forever already.
(Still, gotta say I'm back and forth regarding the aesthetics. Sometimes I think it's gorgeous, then sometimes I wish the lines were more like the OG Evo, which I still think is one of the sexiest phones available)
**waiting**

Agreed I can't wait.
I completely dismiss the look cause i have a tendency to mod my casings. And any time an ugly phone comes out that is worth the hardware in it. There tends to be alot of modders coming up with different options to pimp out the phone.
How epic would it be if some one made a clear cover for the top/back half?
Cant wait to see what the modding community has in-store for this awesome phone.
can't wait till it is released and I go to work on modding the shiny black cover into something more of my liking..lol
This phone may just bring me back from the "darkside"
Speaking off, do we have a dedicated sub-forum for this phone yet?

I haven't seen one upon looking... I hope there is one soon! I was curious if someone had rooted one already, haha. Seems to happen immediately these days!
Also, I truly hope someone makes a 3rd party covering for the SD card that is a matte black finish so those fingerprints don't go all over.
Speaking of cases, are there any that are advertised yet? Or does it usually take a while? I've never bought a phone on release day - this is killing me!
Cant wait here ethier. I jumped on the shift after my hero instead of the og evo. Cant wait to get my hands on the lte

I can't wait for the EVO LTE
Almost have my EVO 4g for 2 years!!!
No EvoLTE sub-forum yet?
The samsuck 3 got its own forum before it was released, it just got officially announced like the other day

How does a sub forum get put up? Can we ask the mods or something? I would love to see some dedicated areas devoted to this device. That's all I want to discuss on xda right now...
